I've used Pure-Grooves before with the same level of expertise and fairness that I just recently received. My Philips 212 turntable wasn't sending a signal through the left channel I assumed it was the RCA cables. When I received the very fair estimate to repair it, it didn't include new RCA cables but I did receive a new belt, 3 new bulbs, tonearm adjustment, height adjustment for tonearm and he polished dust cover. I'm sure this guy is great at what he does, but needs to work on his customer service and interpersonal skills. I called him to see if I could get my husband's grandfather's record player fixed, and he acted annoyed the minute I spoke with him. He explained that he's booked out for months and immediately gave off the impression that I was wasting his time. I drove all the way from the city to Berwyn (30 mins), not realizing it's his house, not a shop. We spoke for about 60 seconds for him to say "I don't work on those. They're made in China. You'd be better off going and buying a nicer one at target" The entire interaction was very rude and pretentious. Wouldn't be my go to in the future just based the way he treated me. read more

Vince is a master at repairing vintage hi-fi. I purchased a late 60's Magnavox hi-fi console on Craigslist, and he came to my home and picked up the turntable to be rebuilt and make a few minor repairs to the control knobs. He returned a few weeks later to reinstall the turntable and knobs, as well as outfit my unit with a Bluetooth receiver. Money well spent! We have a 1967 Zenith X940 record console that was not playing records like it should. I got referred to Vince at Pure Grooves through Oak Park Records. Vince asked a couple questions and came to our home, took out the record player, and took the player to his home to run diagnostics. Vince kept us in the loop and diagnosed it as a bad idler wheel. Vince ordered the part and let us know what was going on via text regularly. The rate Vince charged was incredibly reasonable ($110 total for parts, labor, 2 house calls, and a tune up) and his patience with our questions was a welcome change to the world of customer service we otherwise experience. When our record player worked again, he brought it all back, tuned her up, cleaned up her insides, and made sure we were educated. Vince is THE man for vintage stereo restoration. A real engineer! He took our 1970 Zenith A-966 and made it reborn! His work is as good as it gets! I live in Austria and the piece is in Chicago so we communicated via phone and Internet. He always kept me up to date with photos and videos of the restoration process. Lamps and capacitors were replaced as were the tweeter speakers. He mentioned that the mid-range horns and woofers, originals, were perfect, which also shows his honesty. He could have told me to replace everything - remember, I live 4500 miles away so how could I know??!! He worked on the turntable and installed Bluetooth as well. He even included several NOS Zenith diamond needles! Vince also had to reconfigure the unit for European voltage since I had the unit shipped to me in Austria and this was done flawlessly!! The Zenith now is at least as good as when it was purchased new by my father in 1970 and ready for the 21st century with Bluetooth. Vince's pricing is totally reasonable!! Anyone who feels they have to negotiate with him should take their business elsewhere!! We NEVER had to bargain for a price and I am not a rich man but you don't have to be to hire Vince! I became acquainted with Vince through Oak Park Records. He has repaired/restored three turntables, a cassette deck and a 4 track reel-to-reel tape deck for me. He has also cleaned several LPs for me. His work ethic and devotion to the task at hand is impressive to say the least.
