Whenever I asked to fix my computer, the response was the same: "the computer has a virus and the best way is to reinstall a new window operation system. And asked me $67. I went to another shop in Evanston for the second opinion. Then the tech guy removed a virus immediately and asked me only $45. I had a great experience at Universal tech solutions on Devon Avenue in Chicago. Its a nice local neighborhood electronic repair shop. I called the store and communication was easy breezy and informative. I received exact information on what would be done on my laptop repair and a estimate on the cost to fix the issue. I was just thrilled they would be able to fix my laptop and the price was very reasonable. I dropped off my laptop and it was ready in a few hours. My problem was misdiagnosed. I was told it was a bad hard drive. After paying $130 for a new one, my problem continued. I brought my computer back 3 times. I was told it was my fault for going online, and getting a virus. I took my computer to a different place that fixed the problem which was a broken hard drive board. I threw away $130 on a place that didn't know what they were doing. If I were you I'd take your computer problem elsewhere. read more

Unprofessional and uncommunicative, avoid this place. I brought my laptop here on 8/21/18, they called me the next day and said it would be $130 and it would be fixed by Monday. Great, right? Too good to be true is more like it. They told me they would call when it was ready. By Monday evening, I still hadn't heard anything, so I called them. I called them, they didn't call me, and when I spoke to them they had not even started the repair. Not only that, but they had not yet ordered the part that needed to be replaced. In addition to that, they were incredibly unorganized. They didn't seem to know what computer I was talking about or have any reference for what was going on with my repair. Finally they found my laptop and told me that they had not yet ordered the replacement part. At this point they could not tell me how much longer it would take to complete the repair, and I asked multiple times if it was still going to be the price that was initially quoted to me, but I could not get a definitive yes or no response. The representative on the phone only said, "You say so, sir." and "I call you." I asked multiple times for clarification about price and timing, but I ultimately gave up and agreed that they should order the part and let me know when the laptop is repaired. That was 8/27/18. I went into the store today, on 9/11/18 and asked about the progress on my laptop. There was a different representative there today. He had no idea what was going on with my laptop repair. He could not tell me if the part had been ordered or not. He told me that two of the other men that work in the shop had to suddenly go to India, one of them is their primary repair technician. He told me he has been unable to reliable reach them since they left, so he has no idea what is going on. The store technician left to go to India and they did not inform their customers! They stopped work on repairs and didn't bother to tell their customers. Seriously, avoid this place! read more

I've used these guys several times for repairs to the computer. First off... VERY HONEST guys. Almost to a fault and they're very reasonable with the fees. But the downside is that they don't really have much stock if you have a hardware-related issue that needs resolution. I had a bad video card on my computer and I had to go out to a retailer and buy the part and return with it. I would have paid a little more to not have to do that as it added another day into the process. Good news is that they fixed it and when I booted it back up... no problems. I took my laptop as it was very slow.. I was told it needed a hard drive and a USB port. I agreed. I picked up the laptop when I started using at home, found out that the keyboard does not work. Only the touch key board works. Not used to using touch key board, so could not use the laptop. When I called, I was told to bring it back . May be the Keyboard is bad.. Keyboard was working before I took it to the store.. having busy schedule after paying for repair, still cannot use the laptop. Since the laptop was opened to put the hard drive and operating system was installed, should have checked the keyboard while doing this. read more

Universal Tech is the best geek shop in Chicago. Hand down. I discovered them 4 years back when my wife's laptop fell down and broke. They fixed it at very reasonable price. When my son's yoga Lenovo broke the hinges, nearby repair shops quoted prices that made buying a new one cheaper option! I didn't hesitate to drive an hour in traffic to Devon because I was sure Syed will fix it. Boy he did. He patiently worked the broken area and got the hinges to work again. Great place for computer repairs! I came in yesterday to have my computer fixed- it was completely dis functional. They have a flat rate of $40 w/o extra equipment which was fantastic because Geek Squad was charging me $200! The problem was G/S couldn't guarantee this would be the final price until they actually ran the diagnostic! Pretty much taking a gamble with the $200 - so I decided to try Proline Computers. I walked in & Qaed walked me through what the issues might be & how he would repair them. I left the computer with him and within 1 hour I had it back- like new. He even gave me a year of Norton anti-virus - free! Great prices, fast service- Highly recommended !! read more

New Pro-Line Computers is first rate. I cannot begin to describe the relief I felt on discovering this guy! I have used him several times. Quaid, the owner of the shop, is terrific. I've always had my computer equipment repaired in 24 hours or the same day, which is fantastic! And their repairs are very fairly priced. I recommend him without reservation! Quaid is very personable, knowledgeable, and helpful when addressing concerns. I can't imagine going elsewhere. So, I would definitely recommend New Pro-Line Computers to anyone out there looking for a place when in need of tech support, computer repair, and so forth. Laptops tend to know to break just as your warranty has expired, it seems. One of those wicked jokes the universe makes. Anyhow, just that happened to me - it crashed randomly one day, then got stuck in Startup Repair for HOURS as I tried self repair. Lenovo was very little help (gave me some verbal instructions over the phone to re-install Windows but no info on backing up my system, etc.) So I decided to see if New Pro-Line could backup my system for me. The guy there did this...saved all my documents, music, e-books, and pictures. Oh, and he re-installed Windows. Oh, and also he re-installed a better version of Windows than I originally had. Oh, all of that in 3.5 hours with literally no effort on my part other than drop-off and pick-up. $60 bucks VERY well spent. (Cash only, though, kids.) See if I even bother calling Lenovo next time I have issues with this machine, I'd just as soon go back to New Pro-Line. read more

Very disappointed with the service. They installed the antivirus in all my 7 pcs when i did not even need it. These people don't know what they are doing, the antivirus is not compatible with my windows 10 and they didnt even know that. All my computers have infections and now I have to spend money to get them cleaned up. They don't pick up my calls once they came to know about this problem. I live in Evanston and wanted to find a high quality computer repair place to take my laptop to, so I visited a few of the highest-rated places nearby (in Evanston and Edgewater). To my surprise they all had turnaround times of around 5 days. That means I'd need to be away from my laptop for almost a WEEK while they "diagnose" what might be causing it to be too slow. Then if new parts were required it would be more time away from my laptop. But not this shop. I decided to drop by after seeing the high yelp reviews for this place. In particular, I was impressed by those reviewers who described the owner as being "honest to a fault". Who doesn't want a super honest repair guy?! The owner definitely had a "tell-it-like-it-is-otherwise-don't-bother-asking-me" demeanor, but I soon found that his honesty and cheap prices more than made up for that. Furthermore, I could tell that this attitude was more for the sake of efficiency rather than him trying to disgruntle a customer. When I came to drop my laptop off, that "honest to a fault" description proved accurate since the owner personally took a look at my laptop and gave me his suggested solution to my problem, giving me the option to go back home and fix it myself - taking no charge for the consultation. Needless to say, I was impressed. The place was very unassuming externally, and the owner who greeted me was obviously not into interior decorating. BUT... in about 2 minutes he correctly diagnosed the root cause of my multiple performance issues, gave me an estimated turnaround time and cost for his proposed solution (2-3 hrs @ $40 for the service). So, 2 hours and $40 later, I dropped by the shop to pickup my laptop and when I tested it, my 6 year old computer was running better than it had in years. I was so pleased by the quick and high quality service, I left a tip with my $40 payment. When was the last time your PC repair guy was good enough to leave a tip for? ;-) I'm looking forwards to doing business here again, and maybe purchasing some of the low cost refurbished laptops the owner has in stock. I took my laptop to this store (Micro Star Ico.) My laptop was almost destroyed and very slow. They repaired it very well. My laptop became new. The service was fast and the price was very good and affordable. It didn't cost a lot, and it to just less than one and half hours. The programs that they installed in my laptop are original. Came home today and my computer was dead!!! And I need it for work. Looked through all the Yelps. I was sure I was going to have to pay a ton to get my info off (if that was even possible) and buy a new computer . Took my chances and brought it to Universal Tech. To my amazement I had my computer back with all my info within 2 hours!!! That's unheard of. And the price was so reasonable I was shocked. I thought it was just a blown fuse, took my desktop to UTS and was informed that the power supply had exploded and killed the disk drive. Problem was, they couldn't find a replacement power supply. I ended up contacting the manufacturer, who explained how I could substitute. Bought the parts, took them to UTS, who installed them the same day. Their charge was reasonable, and of course they aren't marking up parts since I had to buy those myself. Overall, a good experience, tho I wish it could have been done faster. read more

Took my laptop in with a bad hard drive. Ahmed upgraded the hard drive and added some RAM and its now running great. Feels like a new laptop. Best part about the service is that it only took a day and the price was so much lower than what the Best Buy Geek Squad offered. They also sometimes have used computers for very cheap and I've purchased several of them. Its my go to place when I comes to my family's laptops. read more

So, I decided to look up computer repair shop near home and low and behold there was New Pro-Line Computer. It had great ratings, all from girls which meant I could trust these guys. Next day I showed up and talked to Quaid. He was so nice, polite, and honest. He explained what was wrong with my computer and what I needed to fix it. My computer was fixed same day! What a relief!
