Having put all my eggs in one basket (lifetime of photos in one external hard drive) I looked for the most reputable of data recovery guy I could find and was not dissapointed. Rob is an absolute miracle worker. I brought a water damaged laptop to Rob to try to help me rescue my data. This wasn't just a water spill...the laptop was dropped and fully submerged into a *bathtub* full of water (don't ask). I basically set the difficulty sliders to a 100 out of 10. There didn't seem to be any chance of the machine being operational again without spending more on repair than what a replacement would cost...but I really needed my data, which in another of a series of very stupid decisions, I hadn't backed up in six months. Rob unscrewed the back of the machine when I dropped it off to inspect the damage with me -- corrosion had already begun. Over a week or so he gave it a shot, ordered a test part, and did his best but ended up delivering the bad news...the logicboard had a CPU failure and couldn't be repaired, and my last hope would be shipping off to one of the very expensive data recovery companies. I arranged to pick up the machine a few days later, and at 10pm the night before I was coming back to pick it up, I got an email from Rob -- if I could give him one more day he ended up making progress after continuing to try to rescue the machine. The next day I got the unbelievable news that, other than a dead display, the laptop worked perfectly and just needed to be used with a monitor. I have NO idea how Rob pulled it off and even he seemed somewhat surprised. I'm now writing this review on my laptop that took a bath, with all of my data intact, at maybe 5% of the price I would have paid one of the recovery companies. I took my relatives computer here to get fixed on several occasions. The pricing is fair, Rob is very accommodating, they are honest. I brought in a mid2012 MacBook Pro that wasn't registering the battery. Rob checked it and informed me that the issue was either the battery or something to do with the logic board. He had a free minute, ran some tests, and learned that the logic board was the issue. He estimated the price to fix would be between $200-$250. I inquired with the owner about whether or not to leave it. She decided against it and ended up buying a new computer. If the computer was mine, I may have fixed it just to squeeze another couple of years out of it but it wasn't my computer and therefore, not my choice. However, I know where I'll go in the future for all of my computer fixing needs. read more

Shortly after the standard 1 year warranty ended on my laptop, I started having issues. My computer was stuck on airplane mode and the internet wasn't working as a result. I initially took the laptop to another place near me, but they basically kept the laptop "hostage" for over a week and never could figure out what the problem was. So my desktop purchased at a Best Buy 3 years ago a store demo HP Envy touchscreen with 27" inch screen started having power issues. Generally we all want the best service so we look to Yelp and maybe for this type lf service "computer repair" is not too easy to choose from. Sure could go the easy route Best Buy or your local Micro Center but they'll probably sell you extras and are they truly reliable when it comes to repairs. So i found My Crazy Machine, Rob who I worked with was very professional explained what would happen and anything that goes through communication would be by email. My repair took about a week he did a check of everything thought it was a video graphics card but later found out it was the LCD screen. I opted not to get it repaired it would be expensive and much cheaper to find a replacement bundle. Rob kindly offered to recycle my desktop so i didnt have to go back to the city. My laptop would not boot up. I took it to Rob who tried to "revive" it but said it would likely need to be replaced. He replaced it and the battery and rescued as many of my programs and files as he could. He was patient with my questions and when I returned days later with a problem that the computer would not charge. He said he would replace the battery if the first was defective. I had an issue accessing my 2TB WD Easystore external hard drive. I initially thought it was due to a new usb cable that I bought. I inquired with My Crazy Machine and got a response via text within 10 minutes. After taking my external to My Crazy Machine, Rob explained about the normal shelf life of most external drives which was the reason why I had my issue. Rob told me that the best option for me would be for him to recover the data. I had a brand new external delivered to his location once he told me all of data that he recovered. I can highly recommend MyCrazyMachine. I have an old and beloved laptop that I have been using for half a dozen years. It's a real workhorse but lately it gets very very hot. You could cook chicken thighs on it. In fact it was cooking my thighs. I literally was at risk for burns. It got so bad I was having the laptop shutting down when running zoom and any other program - a frequent occurrence. I took the machine in just before I left town and they had it done before I returned. They replaced some "fried" capacitors, thermal paste, cleaned the entire inside including the fans and other work. I have a 2012 MacBook Pro that started causing problems about 3yrs ago. It completely stopped working and I went to Apple where they informed me I needed a completely new RAM and told me it's probably best to get a new computer. At the time, I wasn't able to invest in a new computer, so I kept the laptop around but wasnt able to use it. While COVID happened, I needed a home computer so finally took the time to do some research. I called a few places and Rob was quick to respond. Our ancient iMac died (fried graphics card) and, after an Apple tech had a good laugh about it and told me to just buy a new one, I started poking around on Yelp, found My Crazy Machine, and emailed about my issue. I got a response in less than half an hour and dropped my computer off with Rob that night. A week later (probably could have been quicker but I told him it was no rush), he emailed to let me know that he fixed the problem and replaced my hard drive, taking care to transfer and reinstall everything. The business is run out of Rob's house located off of Drake. Google Maps was giving me some problems trying to get here by taking me down the back ally. It is located in a white house on the west side of Drake. Rob was very helpful with the issues I had with a few computers and he was professional. He was able to provide me with my options and provided a quick response via text with the diagnosis for my machine. I did not have any service done but I was confident with his expertise and would willingly bring my machine here again. I specifically came here know that I had a bad hard drive and he said he could replace. I also have an older computer, 2007 model, that he was willing to refresh back to an as new state. Finally, I gave him an old external hard drive that was no longer working for me. I had been holding onto this thing for years and finally was able to get rid of it in an earthly conscious way. I was a complete dufus and neglected to back up the files on my hard drive for 1 year and 4 months. Of course, the hard drive failed suddenly and without warning. I brought it to Best Buy, and the geek squad charged me $70 to tell me that the hard drive had mechanical problems and that my files were completely inaccessible. I horrified and sick to my stomach at the thought of having lost all those precious pictures and files. Slightly skeptical of that diagnosis, I called Rob at MyCrazyMachine - whom I'd used years prior to fix a minor fan problem - for a second opinion. Rob respectfully but clearly explained the geek squad's limitations - mostly their youth and inexperience - and said that if he couldn't retrieve the files he would charge me zilch. That seemed like a good deal, so I brought my hard drive to his house, and a couple of days later, Rob had all my files on a little CD for me. I was overjoyed! In the meantime, he had also installed a new hard drive on my old computer. All along, he kept me apprised of his progress and answered my questions very promptly via text. Highly recommended. After a liquid spill, my MacBookPro had the "Black Screen of Death." Assumption was the screen would need to be replaced -- not cheap. Rob did a free diagnostic, finding corrosion in the logic board (it was NOT a screen issue). He gave me a couple of options, answered a few questions and did the logic board repair for what I thought was a reasonable fee.
