I have a 2012 Macbook Pro that somehow still had its original hard disk intact and was still limping along in 2020. As a precaution, I figured I should finally get around to upgrading to a 1 TB SSD. Worth every penny that I didn't have to get my computer repaired with Rob! I have a 2010 Macbook that I have never had service for regular maintenance or what have you. Well it's older than dirt in the computer world and slowly but surely she started to lag and have random issues that was beyond my patience. I had to bite tongue and give into whatever the cost would be to repair it as long as it avoided another $2k purchase for a new Mac. Long behold I trusted my fellow Yelpers and I'm so happy that I did. Rob is nice, knowledgeable and fast. I dropped my computer off around noon and he had it fixed by 7pm -- same day! That's what I call service. Upon drop off he took a look at my computer in front of me and showed the gross dust buildup and any other concerns he found. He made sure before I left upon pickup that everything was to my liking and walked me through what was fixed. I couldn't be more pleased spending under $200 and having a functioning computer again. Note: My problems were lagging with applications -- we're talking minutes of not being able to open a word doc or type. My trackpad was stuck, dust in the fan (do not keep your computer around candles because the soot affects your computer! Found a missing 4 GB ram board in one of my laptops I brought to these guys to fix a faulty fan. It had been deliberately stolen out of the laptop. First you shouldn't steal PERIOD and second you shouldn't steal from a g33k haxor, it'll only screw you in the end. In fairness to the owner he express rushed the part to my doorstep and apologized profusely. This is the kind of place the rest of us would miss but for Yelp. Do your part! Ok. Self righteous PSA complete... Odd business name but great price and great work. Using Yelp I hooked a friend up with Mycrazymachine .com when he was having problems we couldn't figure out how to solve with his desktop. He was skeptical about using a home based business with a goofy name but I encouraged him to trust the reviews. He got his machine repaired, received great customer service and paid a price less than quoted elsewhere. He was very happy and I was glad to help a friend. Fast forward a few months and another friend is in the market for a used laptop. I happen to have one that crapped out on me gathering dust and wasting space in my apartment. I decide to see if it might be cost effective to get it repaired for him. After a quick call to Mycrazymachine I dropped the laptop off. I received a call later that afternoon letting me know the diagnosis and what it would take to get the machine running again. The price was reasonable and the turn around estimate was quick so I gave the go ahead. I got a call back at the exact time I was told. The work was completed properly at a price under estimate and the laptop was even delivered back to my doorstep at no charge. This was a perfect transaction. I couldn't have been happier. A+++++ would do business again. Caveat: Most of our interaction was on the phone and the hand off of the computer was done in front of the owners home. Rob, I hope you are reading this.....You are my Yelp HERO! Hi all, Rob is a talented, PC/Laptop/Tech Genius who is incredibly humble, honest and straight forward. His ability to truly deliver is Head and Shoulders above his peers. If YOU have a computer problem CALL ROB FIRST! I want this guy to be in business forever.... So what happened? I have a 2 year old Lenovo Yoga 2 laptop that I purchased from Best Buy for about $1,000. I had a Geek Squad service plan. This touch screen/ super thin Windows laptop has worked pretty well. Suddenly, a few months ago, the screen went out. But if you discharge the battery (per google), the computer would start right back up, until you shut it off. You'd have to discharge the battery again to get it to work. UGGH! I knew this 'symptom' indicated something bad, so I better have a professional look at it before it totally craps out. So I brought it to Best Buy, where they took 24 hours to diagnose the problem, as part of my pre-paid plan. The rep said I needed a new motherboard. It would cost $750 since I only had the service plan and not the Replacement plan!! Further, they would have to send it out of state to a facility that would might not be able to fix it and instead would simply give me a new unit. Of course this meant I would have to back-up all of my data to a portable hard drive since there was a chance I'd get a replacement computer instead. What a friggin sad hassle! So I brought it home and backed up the data I felt I could not live without. Shut it off and it did not turn on again. At least I had my data. Figuring that I wanted a second opinion BEFORE I pay Best Buy Seven Fitty I brought my laptop to Micro-Center on Elston. There, I had to pay $45 to have it looked at. The next day, they drew the same conclusion. @#$#@%^!#^$!!!! At least Best Buy was not pulling a fast one. Thank you Best Buy for your consistency. (Note: Best Buy is GREAT at clearing out Adware, viruses etc, when your computer gets slow, but that is a different posting.) The Micro-Center technician said they could ensure the motherboard would only be replaced and the hard drive would remain in tact. The board would also be $750 and they would have to send it out, BUT, they did have a few local people who might be able to replace the bad component. If they could not fix it, it would still have to go out! At least they seemed to have better access to local techs but the cost was still crazy! So.......after using another laptop for almost 2 months, I figured why not give Yelp a try. I found My Crazy PC. I could not believe there were so many 5 star ratings!? But I had nothing to lose. The reviews were detailed, started out skeptically but ended up with wonderful endings. Incredibly, Rob's shop was within a mile of my office! He works out of his home. Even better was my call to Rob. He was humbly apologetic, stating that Best Buy and MicroCenter reps are not always technically trained and that these businesses are rather large, who need to cover their overhead. Furthermore, after I told Rob my ordeal he said he'd look at it and could either make a repair or replace my motherboard for half, within 3-4 days. WOW, Let's see whassupt! Two days later he fixed it.. What the......?! When I returned to his house ( he came out front), he turned it on right in front of me. He had it running for the last 2 days and simply wanted to ensure he found the only problem. He discovered that my fan vents were dusty ( I am guilty for not vacuuming them out), thus the solder of the video-chip on the motherboard simply melted, thus disconnecting it self from the motherboard. He soldered the connections, vaccumed my vents and only charged me $160. I am at a loss for words. Rob's respect for my situation and ability to truly fix my computer is without bounds. I logged into this account for the first time since I made it specifically to write a review for My Crazy Machine. I accidentally cracked the screen on my Lenovo laptop. Given I work remotely, my laptop is basically my source of income. No worries. Within one week of the day I contacted them, I was back up and running. Rob was extremely responsive via email and by phone. He quoted me a reasonable price (which ended up being even lower) and a speedy turnaround time for my cracked screen. My experience was exceptional, too. When I arrived at Rob's out-of-home office, I was pleasantly surprised. He's got a sweet lobby, with a checkout desk, relaxing tunes and everything. To top it off, he's just a really genuine, light-hearted, nice guy. After the part came in, I brought it in and he fixed it on site in 15 minutes. This Sunday, as I was eating breakfast, I spilled a huge glass of milk and it fell all over my Macbook Pro keyboard! :( Tried to dry as much of it as I could and rushed up North to the Apple Store on North Ave. The so called 'Genius' told me I would have to spend over $800 on a repair or just buy a brand new one for over $1200. He told me there was no chance at having any of my pictures and data saved. I was so sad and even more upset that he refused to at least try to touch my Macbook because in his 'Genius' words, 'there is no point in doing that, its too late'. Forget the Apple store. I WISH I had an opportunity to give a proper review of this company, but I wasn't given the chance. I've been a full-time blogger since late 2009, and I've been blessed to earn a pretty good income off of my website. I'm currently in need of a layout redesign, and found MyCrazyMachine.com on Yelp. I called them Thursday to give them the details of my redesign needs. They asked for my website URL, and I gave it to them, and continued talking. A few minutes in, the person on the phone cut me off. "This isn't the type of project we would do," he said. I was dumbstruck. "Why not?" I asked. "Because your website probably has less than 50 pages." Now, my website currently has over 350 pages of beauty articles compiled over the course of 4 years. I get an average 2 million page views per month, and my global Alexa rating is 81,000. Confused, I asked the guy on the phone. "Well have you looked at the site?" "No", he replied. Now the URL of my site alludes to the fact that I'm a woman of color, and the blog is about beauty. I don't know if he concluded, based on the title, that my blog was "small time". Whatever the case, he made a value judgment without even looking at the actual website. He went on to say that he could recommend a "Wordpress specialist" to help me but, utterly disgusted, I declined. In my 4 years of blogging, and 3 years of doing it full time, I've never met a web designer who has dismissed me in this fashion. And I'm very disappointed that we live in a world where people think they can judge the value of a publication based on its title alone. Two thumbs way down. read more

I will admit that I was initially a bit leery of all the glowing reviews on here for MCM. I had that feeling of "If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is." However, let me tell you that every five-star review on here is well deserved and right on the money. Rob and MCM do top notch work, are honest, and very reasonable. My PC was running very slow for a bit and then stopped booting up altogether. Rob diagnosed the problem, quickly fixed my PC, and had it delivered to my house instead of having me pick it up when the repair took a couple hours longer than he originally estimated. Okay, so my home PC had been down and inoperable for so long that I couldn't even remember everything that was wrong with it. It had a dangerous virus, made terrible, foreboding noises when you turned it on and all I'd seen for nearly six months upon doing so was a black screen. Virtually every IT consultant or company I spoke with was of the opinion that it was likely just time to spring for a new desktop system. This was the prevailing assessment -- sight unseen. It may well be that time, but in a last-ditch effort to have it actually looked at before committing the dollars to a new purchase, I heard about and contacted MyCrazyMachine. I left one voicemail message, and was promptly called back within 30 minutes. The proprietor (Rob Roumi) scheduled an appointment with me for the next day, kept it, and came all the way to my location from the north side. This is significant because one of his competitors, whose business is situated less than a block from my home, proved unenthusiastic about garnering a new customer and insisted that I bring the computer in to him (when I did so, during his posted business hours, no one answered the locked door). MyCrazyMachine arrived at my home, ran a diagnostic on-site, picked up my PC, repaired it and had it back in my possession within 48 hours. It's fully functional again, and operates better and faster now than when it was brand new. He eliminated the virus that I had, replaced my disk drive and salvaged every file and all of my fiscal data -- essentally saving my two home-based businesses which this system is very much dependent upon. Rob then explained to me everything he did so a layman could understand it, advised me of ways to prevent malfunctions in the future and even phoned a few days later as a follow-up to ensure my satisfaction. And the cost? About 1/8th of what I paid Geeks On Call for the same problem less than a year ago. My 7 year old Dell laptop quietly came to a complete stop one day. I am only tech-savvy enough to be dangerous, and I was really concerned I would have to replace her, or spend close to replacement cost just to make the fixes. I haven't had a functioning laptop for over 5 months and when I called Dell to see what they can do there only solution was for me to wipe all the data and reset my computer. That wasn't an option as I have had a ton of my pictures on my laptop that I didn't completely backup. So I finally turned to yelp to find a nearby Computer Tech and luckily I found this business and the yelp offer (pickup/drop) is something that made it stand out from the rest of the places and the awesome reviews didn't hurt! On Saturday late my computer was picked up and was ready as early as Monday and the price was fair. Had a LaCie external hard drive that went kaput. I was using it to store pictures of my kids from when they were babies, which is incredibly dangerous. Took it to MicroCenter, they charged me $20 and took two weeks to tell me that I needed to send it off to Colorado to have the data recovered. Total cost: minimum $700; as much as $1200. Went on yelp, found some great reviews for mycrazymachine.com. He was able to recover all the data for $225. Seriously, if you find yourself in a spot like me, give these guys a call. read more

Rob is amazing!! Hard drive on my 2006 I-Mac took a dump last Saturday. I called Rob and he said bring it over. He called me back immediately with an amazing price to replace hard drive (1 TB vs. 325 GB) and he recovered all my most precious docs and photographs. The website initially sold me on MCM's services: very easily navigable and customizable to individual computer problems. When I walked in, the clean, well-lit, well-ventilated office was a welcome contrast to local competitors operating out of poorly lit holes in the wall with cluttered equipment everywhere. Ample space between the pay/discussion desk in front and work area in the back illustrated that MCM takes seriously the security of its customers' belongings. All of a sudden my Surface RT wasn't working, so I called ROB at My Crazy Machine after reading all the positive reviews on Yelp. Unfortunately he told me he doesn't work on tablets, but was gracious enough to tell me what was probably wrong with it over the phone. He suggested it might be the cord saying those are usually the first things to go on this type of machine. It sounded plausible, so I went back to Best Buy and as luck would have it they no longer make the type of cord I needed and to make matters worse they don't work on tablets. What? Now you tell me BB, wish you would've told me that when I first bought the darn thing. That's Best Buy for you! However the rep did told me about Microsoft stores in the suburbs. Before that I never even knew there was such a thing as a Microsoft store?? Did anybody know that? So I go all the way out to the Woodfield Mall and yes the problem turned out to be a defective cord and thankfully I was able to get a new one, free of charge, because they don't make them anymore.
