I normally don't write reviews on here, but I felt that others should know about my experience. To start off, I should mention I am not an expert in computers & technology, but at the same time I am not a novice either. I have fixed and modded computer components & have built PC's plenty of times on my own. First time I went here, I went to get my 15" Macbook Pro Retina laptop screen fixed, an easy repair. I went here because I was too busy to do it myself. Sorin (lead repair tech) advised to replace my broken screen with a used screen to reduce the repair cost. I said thats sounds good and proceeded. When I got the repair back, the screen itself was dirty and the metal lid had tape and residue on it. I understand that the replacement part was a used piece, but he couldn't spend 5 minutes wiping it down and making it look presentable? This was a $500+ repair. At the end of the day, it isn't a big deal, but the reason I mention this is because it is relevant for my next experience with him and this business. My $7500 custom build PC that I had built, suddenly no longer could boot up, POST or enter BIOS. Sorin offered a diagnostics test for $80. I agreed as I needed to confirm which of my parts was malfunctioning so that I could process a warranty claim with the brand. On the phone, I had asked him if I should bring manuals - he said no. I bring in my PC and I tell him I will be right back as I left my power cable for the PSU in my car. He admentently says I don't need to bring it in (without even looking at my PC). Okay fine...I'm not going to argue with a "professional". I also asked if he would like to be provided a list of the parts in my PC to help him troubleshoot more efficiently. He said nope, no need. I drive back home. Next day, I get a call from him and he tells me that he did not realize my PSU (Corsair AX1600i) has a different plug and that he requires me to bring in my power cable. Great. Now I have to drive all the way back to the store when this could have been avoided if he took 30 seconds to look at my PSU when I first came in. I get a call from him later and explains the tests he ran. I should note that he said he was not fully able to test my CPU (3970x), GPU (RTX 3090), or motherboard as their shop does not have the parts needed to run a in-depth diagnostics test on higher end computer components. *This is why I originally told him if he would like a components list of my build when I first came in.* Basically I paid $80 dollars for a rudimentary diagnostic test that was not comprehensive at all in my opinion, as the CPU, GPU, and motherboard are the most important components of a computer. Fine, I guess this is the best I can get for an $80 dollar diagnostic test. I promptly ask him to put my PC back together so that I can pick it up. When I arrive at the store, he hands me my PC back and he said was not able to get the front facing fan on the CPU cooler mounted properly onto the heatsink. Um...okay...your business is called "PRO - Technology Professionals", but you can't even mount a basic CPU cooler onto the motherboard? I also noticed when he put back my GPU, he did not plug back in the power cables for it. And he also reseated my memory sticks incorrectly (pic included).He clearly put no effort in putting my PC back together. Do you not take pride in your work? Completely sloppy. This kind of leaves a sour taste in my mouth, but again, not a big deal to me, so I bring it back home. When I get back home to inspect my PC closer, I noticed the reason he could not mount the front facing fan on the CPU cooler is because it was the incorrect fan. My CPU cooler (be QUIET! DARK ROCK PRO TR4) has 2 fans that need to be mounted onto its heatsink. I don't understand how he could have messed this up because the two fans are both different sizes and only one of them fits on the inside. Instead, it's clear he forcefully jammed the other fan into it as it is basically impossible for it slide it in otherwise. It is astonishing he did not try to look for the manual online, or bother to call me to confirm how to correctly put the CPU cooler back to together. This was not a AIO or custom loop liquid cooling system... This was a simple cooler with two fans. The only way I could pull out the fan was to break the rubber gasket on the heatsinks - thereby damaging both my fan and heatsink. I call him and address my complaints and was ultimately met with an attitude. He tells me I need to bring my computer back to the store so that he can remove the fan. I refuse as I am not going drive a third time back and told him there is no way to remove the fan without damaging the cooler. I am normally a easy to work with guy and I am usually empathic to certain situations. I didn't even ask for a full refund and was compensated a $20 dollar refund. That doesn't even begin to cover my $90 CPU cooler. To have my $7500+ dollar PC disrespected like this is completely unacceptable. Avoid this place. read more

I've had my laptop for 6 years now and while I was using it yesterday, the screen just turned black. It was the first time it happened and I really don't know what to do. My mom gave it to me as a graduation gift, and I don't have the heart to just dispose of it and buy a new one. It is really special to me. Had an issue with a brand new Mac Mini. After 3 weeks of no functioning computer, multiple visits to the store with the "geniuses" and a 3 1/2 hour phone call with that fruit-based computer company I decided to contact PRO. I got an email response within a few minutes with a couple of suggestions to try to fix my issue. When that didn't work, I brought my computer to them and it worked fine in their store so I set up an appointment for someone to come to my house and figure out why it wouldn't work in my house. Tech Casey came within a few days and spent 2 hours figuring it out. He made sure I was convinced it worked before he left. The cost was reasonable. And the stress relief of having a working computer (and printer/scanner) is priceless. If you are a Mac person, you know that there are few techs that know Macs. These folks know their stuff. I brought my MacBook Air in for diagnosis because it would not boot up and kept cycling on and off. After waiting a couple of days and not hearing back, I contacted PRO for an update. I was told that the problem was likely the "mother board", not software, and that the computer would not be worth fixing. Further, when picking it up, I was told that it would be prohibitively expensive to retrieve my files from the computer. Somewhere in the neighborhood of $1,500. This information led me to believe that there was no hope for the unit, and that I should just recycle it. I'm very glad that I did not act on their evaluation. I subsequently took the unit to a Mac authorized repair shop where it was accurately diagnosed as a software problem. They were able to save all of my files and re-install the operating system. It's as good as new. The total cost was $99.00. Had I acted on PRO's diagnosis of my MacBook and recycled it, I would have lost all of my files AND would have had to purchase a new computer! Needles to say, I will not be returning to PRO for service, and will not recommend it to others. read more

The customer and technical service here is great! They went totally above and beyond to help me out. I had an annoying fan noise and the computer would get very warm. By the end of the end of day I could barely stand to work on it. They suggested replacing both fans and upgrading to a Solid State Hard drive. I was afraid I was going to have to buy a new computer ($1,000-$1,500) but this ($400) upgrade was a much better option for me. No more noise and it runs so much quicker. Thanks! read more

I am a big supporter of neighborhood businesses, but not all of them actually work out to be convenient to use. PRO Computers Andersonville is not one of them. Big plus is that it is next to the Hopleaf, so I can kill two birds with one stone. This is the second time I have brought something in to be repaired. The staff has been very friendly and professional. I love the fact that they send out email updates IN ADDITION to calling to update you on the status of your order. I was immediately contacted once they determine the extent of the repair on my daughter's computer as it was beyond what they thought could be done to keep the cost down. With the replacement of a power switch and a clean up of the hard drive, total cost was way less that I thought it would be. Also again, I was able to pick it up and have some champagne at the Hopleaf as a reward. Service was quick...got a quote on a Monday and the computer was ready for pick up that Friday. And I got a follow up email from the owner to make sure I was ok with the service. I hope I don't have to use them again because I don't want any more computer programs, but it is comforting to know that there is someone nearby that can take care of them :-) read more

I went to PRO because of reviews, close location, but also I had visited another famous repair place first (who could not help me). My external drive had stopped working after even switching USB ports, etc. PRO was able to successfully retrieve the data from my drive, and because it was a slow process, let it run all night to do so. Then they put the recovered data onto a new 2TB external drive. I had been scanning many photographs and didn't want to lose them. A fair price, fast and nice work! read more

My computer seemed to have a bunch of dust clogging the fan and causing it to make a lot of noise. I Called Pro to see if they could clean it, and after first saying no... I was told to come on in and they would take care of me. I drove 45 Minutes there to have him tell me to leave it with him for up to 2 days for a full diagnostic. I then drove 55 minutes back home. This was a complete waste of my time and if they didn't do cleanings, he shouldn't have made me drive all that way to find out. Ask about their services before you waste your time. Update: I was contacted by Pro to discuss fixing my computer. He was extremely rude, kept talking over me and would not listen to a word I was saying. He kept going on about how everyone has to wait and this is how they have done business for 17 years. He wouold not let me say that my issue wasn't with the issue that I couldn't get taken care of right away, but with the fact I was not informed that I had to drop off the computer for up to 2 days. I was told to come in and that they would take care of me because they did walk-ins. If I knew I would have to drop the computer before I went there, I could have planned for that. He continued to cut me off while I was trying to explain this and was agressively rude and unprofessional. I will recommend to anyone thinking of going here to look at other alternatives for computer repair as there are plenty of places that will also provide you with customer service as well. read more

The Pro guys gave me a quick quote via Yelp. When I scheduled my appointment I was able to do touchless drop off the same day. These people saved the day. Comcast was sent to my house to fix an issue with my app not connecting to the security cameras. The technician worked on my computer (which I was told later that he wasn't supposed to do) to solve the issue. It worked for a few hours after he left but then my Wifi wasn't working anymore and the app was experiencing the same trouble. Another technician (whom was previously sent and fixed other things that were going on) came to fix the problem and could not figure out what the previous technician had done. I am not saying that this first person was out to mess up my computer, I believe his intention was good, as he was trying to resolve my issue, but was either inexperienced or not trained properly. And in doing so, my Wifi stopped working. Since Comcast was unable to resolve the problem, they promised to reimburse me when I get someone else to fix it. The staff at Pro Technology Professionals was very nice and sent Casey to my house the day I came in. Their pricing is reasonable and they know what the heck they are doing! We had been agonizing over this for weeks (my family was ready to start cutting each other since we had no Wifi) and thankfully, Casey reinstated the peace in my house!!! Lenovo Yoga 910 stopped working one morning- took it to geek squad and had it looked at, was told it'd be upwards of $600 to get it sent out, tested and "repaired" over a one month period minimum. Multiple backups, if possible. And we all mean to do so. But it's not until you come back from Thanksgiving, and your computer won't even turn on, and it's a holiday weekend, so no one's going to be open until Monday, that you realize how stupid you are for not backing up those files. I'll admit it: for a minute there, I thought, "Hell, it's Black Friday. Time for a new computer!" And with four years under her belt, Bessie is 20 years old in computer years. But times are tight, and so is my wallet. And even if I bought a new box, I would still have to get those files off the old one. So come Monday, I hauled the old girl up the street to PRO Computers. I hoped it was just a dead power supply, and Florian figured I was right. We discussed other options, such as putting the hard drive -- assuming it was fine -- into a new case, to use as an external drive, if the problem was something more than the power supply. That would save me from going through data recovery. 49 bones for a diagnostic fee, which would then apply to any work they did. He said they would get back to me by Weds with the estimate. I heard from them on Tuesday. The power supply was indeed dead. They also offered to upgrade the RAM, which I've been meaning to do for years. New PSU, additional gig of RAM, and labor: $180. Cheaper than a new machine. 1 to 2 days to finish the job. Another email on Weds afternoon saying the job was done. Drop off to pick up -- less than 48 hours. Having access to my work, including everything I need for my class, which ends in 10 days: Priceless. Sure, I could have done the job myself -- assuming the power supply was the only issue -- and saved myself 50 or 60 bucks. But with my fat little sausage fingers, I'm glad to have someone else noodle around inside the box. And if the whole thing blows up in a week, I'll know who to hold responsible. Never buy a Dell. Assuming you're reading this review, you probably already bought a Dell and are having problems with it. Welcome to Dell ownership. I was right where you were back in October when my four month old laptop started acting...well, funny. Programs would freeze and it would randomly crash. I called Dell Tech Support since my computer was still under warranty and they informed me I must have downloaded a virus and told me to reimage my hard drive. Which I did. This fixed the problem for about three weeks, when the same things started in happening. In frustration, I just stopped using my personal laptop until January. In January realized it was ridiculous to have a laptop I wasn't using and that I'd heard nothing but great things about PRO LLC. They're very near my house, their diagnostic fee is a very reasonable $49, so I decided to take it in. Within two days PRO called to inform me my hard drive was defective. They patiently and without talking down to me explained how that could be responsible for all the myriad "weird" things my laptop was doing. This meant I had to get BACK on the phone with Dell, ugh. Dell refused to do anything for me without an actual Dell error code and wanted me to get my laptop BACK from PRO and run through the diagnostic with them. Frustrated I called PRO and explained my predicament - they told me they were actually getting an error code from my hard drive manufacturer's diagnostic, not Dell's but they'd see what they could do. They were even willing to call Dell for me! The next day they called back - they'd let the Dell diagnostic run for hours and it had finally failed and given an error code. I called Dell, they conferenced in PRO, and the upshot was Dell sent me out a new hard drive to install (myself, as it turns out, but that wasn't that hard). The employees at PRO were all very helpful, very nice, and really went above and beyond to help me out - they spent quite a bit of time on my case despite the fact that all they ultimately collected was the diagnostic fee. They fielded several agitated calls from me and even advised me that hard drive self installation wasn't that difficult (they could have easily told me it was and I'd have brought my laptop back to them to have them do the install - very honest!) I'm glad this place is so close to my house, because I have a sneaking suspicion I'll be needing them periodically as long as I own this laptop. Dell, you've made a powerful enemy. read more

I am writing this review to present an honest perspective of my experience with PRO Computers. First, my laptop had a loose input jack (or so I thought) and the adapter could no longer charge. Being new to the Chicago area, I did some research and chose PRO Computers because of their location and all of the stellar reviews on Yelp. When I took it in, the gentleman helping me was pretty nice and let me know that the diagnostic would be $49 and they would contact me in a day or so to let me know what was wrong. I dropped my laptop off on a Tuesday and by Wednesday they emailed me and let me know that my computer was not broken, it simply needed a new adapter (which they said would cost $69). They also suggested that I do a hardware and software "cleanup." I decided that since I had gone all the way there I might as well take care of maintenance issues. They quoted me $200. OK. I figured it would be as much when I thought my computer was broken. It was a little steep, but no big deal. By Friday of that week I had not heard from anyone and gave them a call. I spoke with "Chris" who did not sound too happy to help me and seemed even more irritated when I did not have the service number (sorry, I'm a busy gal). He told me that they were waiting on an adapter and that it would be in by "This afternoon or tomorrow." I was not happy about this as I thought it would only take a day or two. When it was all said and done, I didn't get my laptop back until the following Tuesday. That's right, it took them an entire week to work on a laptop that wasn't even broken. I don' t understand how a shop that specializes in laptop hardware repair would not have adapters on hand. They also gave me a break down of the bill but did not go over what they had actually done to my computer. I'm sorry, but if I'm paying $200 for you to maintain my computer, I should have some outline of what you actually did. My computer is not running any better than it did when I brought it in and I have a sinking feeling I paid for very little actual maintenance. I won't be taking my computer here again. read more

A most excellent experience from the minute I called on the phone - despite the fact that in the end they could not recover my data - the hard drive was way dead. I worked in the IT field for over 25 years (and for attorneys no less) and I know the challenges of being at the entry point of troubleshooting computer issues. Everyone at PRO Andersonville was not just professional but also efficient and they were very clear in terms of what they were doing and when the work would be done. In my case - a blue screen of death on a Dell desktop - I called the main number, they set up an account for me on the phone - and when I walked in the Andersonville store they were ready for me. At the front desk Neil processed my order - he was friendly and he understoof my data loss situation right away. Adin worked on the PC itself and was excellent in making sure that I understood why my data could not be recovered. He called me to explain what was going on and while sending the drive out for diagnostics was an option, he worked with me to reach a decision as to whether or not my data was worth the hassle and the cost. I had the unfortunate experience of spilling tea on my Macbook Air. The Best Buy repair team quoted me almost $1200 to fix it. I looked online and found PRO, and I gave them a call. The rep was pleasant and professional, and quickly gave me an estimate around a third of Best Buy's price. The repair took a day and a half, during that time I called a few times to check up on the status. Speaking to them was pleasant, they kept me posted, and I also was able to receive email alerts. Updated: I spoke too soon. While the quick responses and turnaround at this repair location were very good, they failed to resolve the main problem I was having with my laptop (clock/time sync was off). After buying a new battery and a new hard drive...it still did the same thing. They had the computer for about a week and said it was fixed, but as soon as I booted it up, the problem was still there. The truth is that these guys worked hard to resolve the issue, I just don't think they could do it. After spending quite a bit of money, the main issue was still there (although they did fix my boot-up error). I think for general repairs and fixes, these guys would be fine. But for more difficult issues like mine, it's probably better to go somewhere else. read more

Awesome and affordable neighborhood computer clinic. Florian and his merry band of elves have resurrected my Acer laptop 3x so far. Crashed drive, blown motherboard fuse and spyware infection that took down a drive that was evidently on the five yard line to begin with. A few days, a few hundred dollars and you're out the door. Worth it to have your work files back in order. It's a small shop so you can see them tinkering away at their benches while Florian talks you off a ledge. Friendly staff. Chris pretended not to remember my rude attitude on the phone. Aldi gave me good service too. Haven't been formally introduced to scary heavy metal Viking dude yet, but he looks like the type of guy you'd want on your side if trouble started brewing. Florian wants me to buy a more reliable Lenovo so if I do I suppose I won't see him for a while. (I'm actually leaning towards a Macbook Pro, and Florian just advised that they repair Macs too. So when I get it I'll make sure to spill a drink on it so I can check in again.) Anyway, you should visit next time your computer starts giving you grief. I called around to a number of places trying to get some help with fixing my desktop's motherboard. It seemed it was too complicated of a problem for most of Chicago's self-proclaimed computer experts. Then, thank goodness, I talked to these guys - and they didn't even bat an eye at what I needed. They really know their stuff, yet they are one of the fairest priced shops that I've ever come across. I don't put my stamp of approval on many businesses, but Crescent gets it. If you need any sort of technology repaired (laptops, cell phones, desktops, gaming consoles, etc.) - chances are, these guys can and will take care of you.
