Really surprised about my service here. Seemed like a sure bet since the Yelp reviews were so great, but this place acted anything but professional. My hardrive had crashed and I was looking to get it replaced, along with a key that had popped out a few weeks prior. I just have a Vaio, nothing too special. It took over a week and a half to complete, but I wasn't upset at all. I knew these things take time. When they did call me they told me the new hard drive was installed, but they had simply 'lost' my order for the new key. They said it would be a few more days before that order would be replaced. Should have been a red flag right there about this place. After I picked up my Vaio I brought it back home to realize (to my horror) that I could not use the laptop without having it plugged in, as a prompt would pop up that said the battery was malfunctioning. IF that wasn't enough, I also discovered that the disk drive was out of operation. Tell me, what kind of professional place gives you back your equipment in worse shape then when you dropped it off? I immediately called and talked to the young kid behind the counter, and he simply said the battery could just be dying and that I would have to get it replaced. My jaw almost dropped when he said that, was he really trying to convince me that it was just a coincidence that all of this was wrong with my laptop now? I brought it in the next day and was planning on asking for my money back. Thankfully a technician by the name of Nick was working, and he apologized profusely and said that both problems were completely Pro Computers fault. The kid behind the desk was the same person I had talked to the day before, and he also apologized about the line of bull he had fed me on the phone. He said he wasn't aware of the details of my repair, which strikes me as odd since he then was just blindly giving me advice instead of asking someone with more knowledge of my particular circumstance.. Nick and another technician were able to fix both problems in about 20 minutes, so at least this story had a somewhat happy ending. Though I have been in Chicago for almost 3 years, I have never had the need for computer repair until now. The jack for my battery was messed up and finally the laptop shut down. OMG. I am unemployed and I cannot afford to buy a whole new laptop. I did a Google search for fugitsu computer repair and came across PRO computers. On their website, they have a section for repairs such as mine and total cost is $149. My husband dropped it off (a bit far for us but who cares if they do a good job). In about two days it was ready! My husband said that the guy that was there is not the most sociable person, but the computer is working fabulously (using it now) and the charge was as expected. So, a couple months ago I had a total derp moment and managed to douse my beloved laptop with Dr. Pepper and vanilla vodka (it was delicious too, I wish I'd been able to finish it). First, I panicked. There was much yelling and swearing and a little bit of running around. Then I turned off my laptop, took out the battery, wiped it down, and let it dry upside down. The next day I turned on my laptop with great trepidation, and managed to type something along the lines of "afnOUBCAJdh2dxwnj" which was... not what I was going for. Now I am what they call a broke-girl, someone what has three dollars in her bank account (at this moment, total truth) and makes rent every month by the skin of her teeth, so of course this was disaster. Had to find someone to fix it, preferably with great skill but affordable prices. Took my laptop into PRO, where they definitely DID NOT LAUGH AT ME for doing something so damn stupid. They also joked around with me, told me what the deal was straight-up, made me feel like a rock star of quick-thinking for turning off my computer, and fixed my computer in a handful of days for a price I could handle. My computer works perfectly in every way. I even got a follow up e-mail to make sure everything was going well, and was able to track the whole process online. I've used their services twice due to having a shitty computer that likes to bust down because it's not happy it's writing comedy sketches instead of physics papers. Both time I've used their services, I got my compute back in about a week or less (first was a mother board and second hard drive). Both 200 (my hard drive was a terabit. I know shit about computer so say as you will. They also retrieved all my documents!). While I'm there, I even see people finishing off things they've done making sure everything is organized well and communication is done between everyone that works there. I'm very happy with the results unless I have to go a 3rd time because then I'm rebuying my computer (which means time to go MAC.) read more

I didn't want to write a review until today. I have an alienware laptop of which the video card does not work. They cannot fix it and I didn't choose to spending $449 letting them buy a refurbished video card and replace. I don't want to talk about the unpleasant experience there otherwise I have to type so many words. I haven't touched the laptop since I picked it up back. Today the new video card I bought has arrived. When I want to install it myself, I found that on the heat sink, there are 3 screws missing(there are only 4 in total). And it's very dirty on the contact surface, which is very hard to clean. Not to say the broken video card, seems it was swimming in mud. Now I have to find a place to buy the alternate screws and pray the dirty contact surface won't impact its performance otherwise I have to pay about $60 for a new one. I feel so regret that I've choosen this store. If I have to say some more, that is I wish yelp has a non-star rate. read more

My IPhone 5 was cracked and needed to be repaired. Crescent replaced the outermost screen for $99 and it took them 2 hours as was promised. Soon after the repair, I discovered that the LCD screen also needed to be replaced. I was quoted $50 for the additional work to repair it and in 20 minutes. Cracked IPhone screens must be a popular repair because both times they were out of stock and I had to wait a few days for them to be stocked again. When I finally did get my phone repaired I was told that the cost had gone down $39.99. Additionally, I was able to use my $10 off coupon! My phone is completely functional again. So I get back from a long trip in NYC, and my computer wont turn on. "Grey Screen," it is called. Or so I am told. My first step to fix it is of course to throw a full-fledged temper tantrum, throwing everything in my apartment into oblivion. It was a sight to see. As for the second step I took, here's what happened: I checked Yelp for someone close to me to fix the cpu. I called Crescent, and Max answered. He said he'd be at the office til 7, so I made it in by 6. Within a matter of minutes, he had diagnosed the problem. I needed a new LCD screen, which he replaced in five minutes. While he had the machine, which is a HORRIBLE DELL BTW, he also dug in a bit and cleaned it up and made it run much, much faster. My laptop hard drive crashed unexpectedly and I hadn't backed up the data since June on it. So, I was pretty frantic at the thought of losing about 8 months worth of new music, files, data, photos, etc... My sister used PRO Computers before for a repair, so I checked the reviews here on yelp and I decided to give them a try. I'm quite satisfied with the work and the speed of getting the data recovery done. The paperwork process of getting the repair is automated, so you will literally get an email notification the minute your repair is completed -- and that's exactly what happened... plus you will also get an email estimate (free estimate, by the way) asking you to electronically approve or deny the work they can offer you. While the prices weren't cheap for data recovery and they weren't able to recover all of my music files, I still got the most important documents/files/data/photos back so I'm thankful for that. They did a great job, they were very helpful and friendly and I'll happily recommend them to anyone. read more

I came to Crescent twice for computer repairs and had very good experiences each time. The first time I had some lingering pop-ups and other problems that another place couldn't fix and actually made worse (you can seem my review of that elsewhere, if you'd like), and when I brought it in, they were able to get it taken care of quickly and affordably. The second time I came in it turned out that my 5 year old laptop's hard drive was about to die. They were able to recover all of the information per my request, and then they called to talk with me about whether I wanted to spend the money for a new hard drive and the install costs, or just scrap the computer and put the data on an external hard drive. I opted to save the computer but I really appreciated their prompt service and talk through my options for me. The only reason that they don't get five stars is that they have saturday hours to drop off and pick up your computer, but their techs aren't there to offer same-day service. Since I have a long commute and can't make it to their weekday hours, this means that every repair had to take a week before I got my computer back. If I could get my problems fixed on saturday, I would happily pay a premium to avoid going without my computer for a week. All in all, I strongly recommend this business for all of your computer needs. read more

I took my laptop in because it wasn't receiving power - the port had gone bad. They were able to resolve my problem in a few days and it only took them that long because they had to order a part. They are very good with communicating the status of your repair and they have a 90 day guarantee. I actually had to take my computer back in about 60 days after the repair since the power was intermittent. They fixed it and had it back to me the next day. The only reason for the 4 stars (instead of 5) is b/c I had to bring it back but other then that, they were great. I'd recommend them to anyone. read more

I consider myself fairly computer literate. When my laptop would no longer boot past DOS, I gave up and put it away for a few months, fearing the costs. Computer repair is a lot like Car repair where if I don't know the person doing it, and if I'm not informed about the problem I get nervous. So months pass, I save some bucks, and take my laptop into PRO-Technology Professionals, right next to Hopleaf. Steffan (Or Stephen) helped me out. It was a quiet Monday and he volunteered to check it out right away. Fifteen minutes later, I am now at home typing to you on a computer I'd given up for dead, or had at least planned on spending a couple hundred dollars on. He fixed my comp for free, and as he was handing it back noticed a frayed wire on my charging cord. He replaced that wordlessly, also for free. For those of you out there who are looking to a trustworthy group of good people to have repair your computer, please give PRO a shot. Most companies will charge you money just to look at your computer/diagnose the problem. These guys just fixed mine and sent me on my way. This was a problem I had spent a few weeks on before giving up, scanning the internet for advice and ways to fix it, Steffan's expertise fixed in 10 minutes what I couldn't in months. My PC laptop stopped charging so I took it to Best Buy where I bought it. They said the charging port was broken and the cost of fixing it would cost so much that I mine as well buy a new one. Hmm. I get the impression that my experience with these guys was atypical. But since I decided to go there based on the wonderful reviews on yelp, I thought the yelp community should know that it's not always rainbows and sunshine at Crescent Technology. I had a screen crack on an Iphone 4S. I looked around and found these guys charged about half as much as Apple to fix it, and seemed like a routine enough repair that it was worth trying it out. I brought my phone in and received an email the next day saying that the phone would no longer power on. It then took 2.5 weeks of waiting for someone to come back from vacation, then parts to come in, then for them to hunt down a replacement phone when they ultimately were unable to fix the problem. They did replace my phone with a refurbished Iphone 4 and charged me for the screen replacement, which is fair enough. The phone works, but the screen is slightly thicker, making it not fit in the case quite right, there is a rattle when you shake it and an issue with finding the orientation when you turn the phone. For the majority of those 2.5 weeks they were not clear about what the plan would be if the phone did not power back on. They were very friendly and apologetic, but what I needed was an efficient and effective solution to my problem and unfortunately that is not what I got. If I had to do it again I would spend the extra money to go to Apple for the professionalism and quality of their work. read more

It's for small, outstanding businesses like PRO Computers, that I'm glad that Yelp exists. Check this out. I discovered PRO, on a walk in my neighborhood to get dinner at the Hopleaf. Conveniently located at the corner of Clark and Foster. Tiny little shop. My laptop was overheating and had contracted a nasty virus, years ago. Repeated cleanings with Norton Antivirus and Google searches for solutions yielded nothing for me. Very frustrating. And my laptop is essential for my business and private use. I popped into the shop, just before the Xmas holiday and explained all of that to Mike. Registering in their database was super easy and he was knowledgeable about the pricing structure and the time it would take for my repair. I paid the small diagnostic fee, knowing that would eventually come out of my total bill. Two days after Xmas, I got the email from them, notifying me that the overheating problem was solved with a good, deep cleaning. Mike also tracked down my virus issue and fixed it for me. And because it was an easy fix, and essentially he had to just tweak little bits left over from the Antivirus fix, HE DIDN'T CHARGE ME FOR WORK HE DIDN'T HAVE TO DO. Amazing. Their name says it all, "They are PROs." Bring your malfunctioning computers to these guys and have them work their magic for you. Best PC/laptop shop in town! I dropped my Galaxy Note 2 last weekend and called several repair places. Most would not repair the Note and others wanted to charge me a fortune. Crescent quoted me $30 cheaper than anyone else and actually seemed excited to work on my phone (they haven't worked on many android phones and wanted more experience I presume). After dropping the phone off they told me it'd just be a few hours as they had to pick the broken glass off very carefully and replace it. Unfortunately, the lcd malfunctioned during the repair process, but Crescent was very honest about it and overnighted a new lcd at no extra charge. If I could give PRO Tech Professionals 6 stars I would. I desperately needed to replace my laptop screen while traveling for business and happened to stumble across this place after an online search. The service was phenomenal - below are a few reasons why: 1) I emailed PRO with my dilemma and within 30 minutes I was all set to bring my laptop in first thing the next morning 2) Kenneth came in an hour before the store opened to replace my screen because I needed it early the following day 3) Since it was only going to take an hour to replace my screen, I decided to hang around by shop. I wanted to get coffee and it was pushing a balmy 0 degrees outside so Kenneth let me use his bus pass so I could take the bus to the nearest coffee shop since you need exact change to take it - so nice!! 4) My laptop looked brand spanking new in ~1 hour - amazing!! We have a sluggish iMac that's about 7 years old, but it seemed a shame to junk it and buy a brand new one. So I requested a quote and explained the problems we were having. Sorin suggested we replace our disk hard drive with a solid-state drive and quoted about $350, much less than the cost of a new computer. He assured me that performance would be markedly better and make keeping the computer worth it. It took a few days for them to order the drive and then less than a day to install it. Our machine runs much better now. Sorin was very helpful answering all my questions. The story starts in 2007, I had a Sony laptop (They were cool then, OK) that totally went kaput. Went on Angie's List (also cool then) I remember and found Florian, then he and some guys in a small office in Andersonville. They fixed it, charged me a fair price and I just got an overall positive vibe from them. We remained in touch for a time and then I switched to Apple and all of my issues were managed by the Genius Bar. Forward late 2014.... iphone 5s with 30+ gigs of family photos and music submerged. Cloud right? Nope. For some reason, nothing was retrievable. My bad. The clock was ticking on the time frame to send the phone in to the insurance company who had Fed-Ex'd me my new phone with 24 hours... what to do. Went to the Apple store. They said the data could be retrieved for like $1,000. Wow. But then my 'Genius' whispered look around on Yelp there are people who do it. So who comes up first on Yelp? I scheduled an appointment a week in advance for modem, router and camera install. I was out of state and coordinating several contractors doing work for a specific day. I chose this company, because I got the impression that they were large and organized - I was wrong. At 7:15am the morning of our 10:30am appointment, I received an email from Cosmin saying he can't make and to let him know if I want to reschedule. I was furious and called the office - they offered me no alternative. I'm just blown away at how inconsiderate these people were. STAY AWAY! A qualified five. Five for professionalism and customer service. One for supply chain. I brought in my 2011 Macbook Pro, with a messed up keyboard. Got it home and the new keyboard had a non functioning down cursor key. Called them, ended up taking a few weeks to get it back to them. They had it a week, called the day it was due, and they had gotten a bad cable. Wanted 3 to 5 more days, which was not going to work for me. They expedited and got me a new part, fixed the next day. If you have a server or a PC, or maybe a newer laptop, I'm sure they are great. I don't know if I would bring them a Macbook Pro again. I probably would bring a five year old Mac to the Apple store. They were cheaper, though, and they did deal well with several curve balls. They also honored the warranty. I don't know what constraints they deal with. read more

Took my 2 year old HTC droid in after the usb port had come loose and wasn't taking a charge. The guys said they could take a look and it may be a simple soldering job or they may have to order parts. After only an hour the called me back and said it wasn't worth the money to repair and that I'd be better off going to Sprint to get a new phone. Best of all, they didn't charge me anything to take a look and offer advice. The gents at Crescent were friendly, helpful, and efficient. They may not have made money off me this visit but they've certainly earned my future patronage. read more

So, thanks to surfthechannel, I ended up with a nasty, nasty virus on my laptop. My laptop was a zombie and the internet was it's free bin of brains. I was frantic, as I had a work project that I needed ASAP. Dropped my computer off at about 10am on Wednesday, signed up for email updates (love that!), and hoped and prayed they could salvage my laptop. Later that evening I got a call that the viruses were wiped and my computer was disease-free! I was able to pick it first thing the next morning, for $109! It was quick, easy, and painless! read more
