*Disappointing Ending to an Initially Great Experience* I had a great experience with Cell N Comp... until I didn't. Unfortunately, they ended up overcharging my college-aged kid, and the whole situation left a bad taste in my mouth. Take my story for what it's worth--you might decide I share some of the blame. Still, my rating reflects how things ultimately turned out. *The Background* My kid's Pixel 7a (purchased refurbished from Amazon about a year ago) started losing battery power rapidly. After some research, we learned this was a known issue with these phones--batteries sometimes go bad and even expand. Because the phone was refurbished, it wasn't eligible for Google's free battery replacement program, so we needed to get it repaired ourselves. I submitted a general repair request through Yelp. Cell N Comp quickly responded with a competitive quote of $109 + tax installed. The shop was nearby, and the price matched or beat what I'd seen online, so I suggested my kid go there. *The Initial Repair* My kid dropped off the phone, and Cell N Comp promised to have it ready in a few hours. Communication through Yelp was prompt and professional. They notified me when it was done, and my kid paid the $109 + tax. The phone powered on and seemed to be working fine. At that point, I was ready to give them five stars. *The Problem* Less than 24 hours later, the screen went completely dark--no display, even though we could feel vibration when pressing buttons or plugging it in. The phone had never had any screen issues before this. After researching online, I suspected that during the battery replacement, a screen connector might have been loosened or damaged. I sent my kid back to have them check it out, assuming they'd spot the issue and fix it under their repair warranty. *What Happened Next* Instead, Cell N Comp claimed that the previously expanding battery had damaged the screen connector (again, this was a phone that had shown no screen problems before). They charged my kid $199 + tax for a new screen. My kid--pressed for time, heading back to college--paid it. I wish I'd been there to intervene. For the $308 + tax total, we could've almost bought another refurbished phone. *Aftermath* I contacted Cell N Comp before writing this review. Their only reply was included sending back a photo showing the old screen that had a badly cracked SCREEN PROTECTOR (not the actual screen) from before the replacement. Since then, they've gone silent. *Bottom Line* While their initial communication and pricing were great, I can't recommend them based on how this ended. I believe they took advantage of a young customer in a hurry. If you decide to use them, I strongly suggest being present during any repair and double-checking everything before paying. read more

Cell N Comp saved me from needing to buy a new laptop! The staff is friendly and was patient and very clear in explaining the reasons for the trouble I was having. (A hinge broke, and then suddenly I couldn't use my mouse pad and kept getting minimized windows popping up... two minutes after stepping inside the store, it all made sense.) I spent much less money than I was expecting. They fixed it even faster than they said they would. Even my 6 year old laptop has a warranty on the parts they replaced. 10 out of 10! I gave these guys my computer six weeks ago. I've called 4 times, and I can't get a straight answer from anyone about the status of my repair. It's always been "the technician is out, give me __" That time could be 5 minutes or 3 hours, and without fail, I have never received a call back. I had dropped my iPad on a hard surface for a second time and cracked the screen really good this time. Even kind of dented the frame so when I took it in, they told me if the frame had to be replaced it would be more than twice as much but a screen replacement would be $109. That made a lot of sense because a new iPad would be a lot more than that. They called me at the end of the day and said they were able to just replace the screen and salvage the frame. They couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. they didn't rip me off and they were fast and courteous. read more

Neither of us was able to find the work description on our phones. After some squabbling, they agreed to $89. The work was done as promised and the work quality was very good. When I picked up the repair, the tech explained that the person who submitted the quote confirmed sending the $89 price. My iPhone 12 had been giving me trouble, the charging port was damaged by me over time, and I was having to bend the charger at an odd angle just to get it to charge. Then one day I let my phone go below 1%, and I just could not get the thing to charge. No cable or wireless charger would do anything. I was not ready to buy a new phone plus I had two years worth of pics/texts in it. I used the request a quote feature here on Yelp and they got back to me and said they could fix it for $119. The other quotes were all slightly more $. I brought the phone in and was given a receipt/ticket and told to come back in 1.5 hours. When I came back, my phone was charged to 100%. I'm actually unclear if any parts were replaced or what exactly was done to fix the problem. I should have asked. A+ . They fixed my phone when I could not, and they charged me what they said they would, and it was done in under 1.5 hours. I am very thankful! The gentlemen at cell n comp repairs replaced both the front and back glass and the camera glass cover of my beloved iPhone 8 Plus. It was a major operation and everything was done in 3 hours on Christmas Eve. My phone is brand new again and I don't have to buy a new phone for another couple of years. We brought my son's computer in here when it stopped working after receiving recommendations from several people in the neighborhood. The staff spent a lot of time and effort testing it to see what was wrong and trying to replicate the problem before they were finally able to determine that the motherboard was bad. We went in around 6:30 pm to get an iphone fixed, they took down our info and then spent about 10-20 mins diagnosing the issue. Once they realized it was a charging port issue, they gave us a call with a price and time estimate. Ended up finishing the work earlier than expected. Got the phone working which was a relief! These guys are great. I had a bad part on my motherboard, something that none of the big box stores, with repair centers, could repair. They wanted to either replace the motherboard or the laptop.. just as expensive either way. I called these guys on a whim and so glad I did. They confirmed what was broken and assured me they could fix it. 3 days later (had to wait for the part) it was fixed and less than 25% of the other options. My sister gets new phones when she breaks her screens on old phones. Rather than getting new a new phone for my 12 year old, I grabbed sister's broken ones and brought them into this store. They looked like trash but this location quoted $54 and $69 to fix them. This is about $40 less then the other quotes I got through Yelp. I was worried about quality and clarity of new screen for such a good price but was very happy with results. They even helped me transfer SIM card and got new screen protector for $10. Fixed my phone quickly and efficiently, even added a glass screen protector. Screen did end up cracking 2 weeks later after a big drop resulting in not only a crack but the screen no longer would turn on. Unsure if this was in relation to a cheaper fix before hand or because of the nature of the fall. Regardless I still would recommend this place much cheaper than all of Chicago for a screen crack if you don't have insurance.
