The famed "Gothic" Target was all we hoped for it to be! Located in the loop area of downtown, just a few blocks from Millennium Park, this two story, beautifully crafted Target checks a lot of boxes. The obvious part is the exterior, which is black, ornately detailed and flawless. Gives a great vibe to the store even before entry. Once you enter, you are quickly greeted by the familiar and the shopping begins. We were not really after much, honestly stopped in bc of the exterior, and when can you just not wander around a Target for fun?! The second floor was where it was for us with all the home decor and clothing. The men's section was excellent, lots of variety and a good amount of clearance. The whole store was in great condition from the clothing to the decor shelves. Two places you usually see items strewn about, but not at this location! We were honestly impressed. Service was solid. I highly value the service with which we can order online, select "Pick-Up" and it's ready in less than two hours, the shop is about a half-mile down the street from the office. The service is usually accurate and friendly, I'd recommend it to anyone and everyone - but not today. I placed an order, less than two hours later I'm told it's ready (which it was). The one snag in this transaction was the employee herself. I walked up to the area and had my barcode ready on the email, so all was good, except that I could've done without this young lady's attitude. She was staring at her phone between customers. I called out to her, offered my barcode which she scanned. A few minutes later she appeared with my order, holding the bag as far away from her face as was possible and barely clutched the bag handle, as if a plastic bag could give her a disease if she had a better grip on it. I'm usually friendly with who ever is waiting on me, but in this case, I didn't bother - not if someone is so racially bigoted that she'd treat a customer as if he had a contagious virus, and not say a word to me. I didn't bother speaking to her, either. I'll continue to shop online for a pick-up, but hope for the best next time. read more

Never have I see a more stunning exterior of a Target. Multi-story, gorgeous on the outside, and a huge selection inside. Clean and fully stocked as well. I was staying in the Chicago Loop when I was in town for the Chicago Marathon. I stopped in here to buy some snacks and drinks. Unfortunately, the store was pretty much wiped out of all of their electrolyte drinks and water. I was able to buy the last 2 bottles of water because my arms were long enough to reach them as they were way back there, up against the wall. I would say that the prices were pretty good for the downtown area. read more

This is a criticism against the corporation. After I use the urinal, I often have a few droplets on the ground, and then I look to grab a tissue/napkin. But Target bathrooms don't serve any. If the toilet stalls are empty, you can go in and cut out a piece of toilet paper to wipe the floors... But there have been times where all the toilet stalls are occupied, and no tissue/napkin to clean the ground. This isn't the case with Nordstroms, where next to the sinks have tissue/napkins. If Target served tissue/napkins, then people can wipe their own urine off the floor. Of course, it's not just this location, all the Targets I been to in Chicago have this same design, but for purposes of Yelp, I'll use the headquarter Chicago location. So, is the administration doesn't serve tissue/napkins is because they never thought of it, or they have thought of it but are against it? Companies like Nordstroms are doing something right... Target now has a new CEO, so I hope changes can be made. I hope Target brings this idea to people that design all the Target bathrooms, or allow each Target individually to decide. This Target is downtown for example, has a high % of homeless use, so they should provide tissue/napkins for users to self-clean. read more

This Target is located near my hotel in the theater district of Chicago. Wide diversity of shoppers, including a few who just wanted to get warm. I went to the upper levels to their grocery section and got some grab n go breakfast items ( boiled eggs, fruit) and for the evening card game with my daughter, a nice bottle of red wine., a red blend called Silk & Spice. Navigating this Target was easy. Was even able to grab a compact umbrella on my way out (still have it and it has served well with the huge rains in Southern California). Convenient. Well stocked. It's a Target, so not really much special there. It's located at the center point of the city at Madison & State Streets; this is the point in the city from where the entire grid is measured. (If you don't know the Chicago grid, you should!) They have security desks at the entrances, and although I don't know if they are Target employees or security company, they're helpful all the same (I wasn't sure if the order pickup was still on the second floor and he pointed it out--good thing because it isn't upstairs anymore). There are both elevators and an escalator to get to the second floor, and the order pickup is on the first floor near the southwest entrance (on State). Near the health and beauty section on the first floor, they have phone charging lockers! This is new to me--though I haven't been in a Target store in over two years, so it's possible the stores near me also have them. I'm not sure if they have them upstairs or not as well since I didn't go up there. What DOES make this one special is the building. When I moved to Chicago I think Carson had already moved out. The building, known as Sullivan Center for the legendary architect who designed it, has been a landmark building for nearly 50 years so nothing bad would have happened to it, and having Target there is not out of sorts for the building--it's been a retail space for all but a few years of its history. It's considered a classic example of the Chicago School style. Even if you don't need anything, you should stop in the store to check out the beautiful entryways and the intricate architecture. read more

Nice to see how the former Carson, Pirie, Scott and Company store was converted into a CityTarget. Designed by architect Louis Sullivan, a mentor to Frank Lloyd Wright, the iconic landmark built in 1899 is an excellent example of the Chicago School. Loved the cast-iron scrollwork and terra cotta facades that were preserved during the renovation. Originally known as the Sullivan Center, the building's steel frame allowed a dramatic increase in window area. This maximized natural light into the building and allowed large, expansive window displays to be seen from the street to attract pedestrian traffic. This design element is known as the Chicago window. Thanks to the security guard and manager for providing some of historical backstory to this amazing Chicago icon. read more

I have been to this target many times. The layout is quirky and inefficient. I often think to myself that their products are low. Luckily, after much searching, I found my favorite 2022-2023 paper daily planner/journal. They had 3 left. They also had some Easter items at 70% off, so grabbed a few things there, too. First time coming here. Wanted to grab a couple of things before heading out for the day. I've never been to a two floor target before. It's you're typical target stuff decently priced for the most part. Sales associates were friendly, they didn't mind that I walked in with a outside drink which was great. Some of the shelves felt under stocked unless people felt like clearing out shelves. On a side note there was a very old disgruntled customer walking around the store angrily that said "This customer service is horrible, someone should burn this place down." in an angry tone. I had absolutely no issues with any of this stuff from my visit. I'd come back out of convenience. read more

This location is known as the "Goth Target" on the internet, and the exterior definitely lived up to it's name. It's got beautiful framework on the outside, but the inside is just like any other Target. It's a bit grand in scale, though, so it's easy to get turned around in there. If it's your first time in Chicago (and you're from out-of-state), they charge for plastic bags! So bring your own, or be aware. For cyclists, they have a couple bike racks right outside! It's walkable for most hotels and public transport is convenient. read more

It's your typical Target that every city in America has. This particular store does have a grocery store in it that makes it really convenient. Every time I shop at this particular location, the employees are super helpful. I am coming here for a couple of years already and as for me it's the most clean store I have ever seen. No big queues as there are many counters and also self check out is available which I actually use to avoid more contact. Pretty spacious, you don't have to stay back to back with someone else. I usually like this Target, it's expansive, has what all I need, near the bus that takes me home, etc. I usually scoff at buying apparel in stores like this but I got a nice bathing suit last year. I like the upstairs and the new self-checkout registers. Memories of Carson Pirie Scott still surface when I visit! The glitch here is I went in for a box of Christmas cards and the sales lady said they didn't get any this year! Rather than buy 13 cards at $4 each, I headed across the street to Walgreens on State/Madison. But I'm sure i'll be back soon. read more

This is a super nice target downtown. Beautifully kept. Restrooms in the back of the store, free target guest wifi that actually works! First floor had athletic wear right where I entered, cards and stationary, Starbucks in the back, toiletries and then elevator or escalator or stairs to second floor. Second floor had home good and both male and female apparel. I am used to seeing more sales at Target, this one not so much. You know what, Target is quickly becoming my one stop shop for candy. If you read my reviews, and I hope you do because I absolutely love Yelp, you'll see that I have a huge sweet tooth. This candy from this brand called Crunchers is sooooo good but I thought like they discontinued it or something. I couldn't find it anywhere. Then today I found it at target. I love eating this marzipan filled dark chocolate that used to be everywhere from this German chocolate brand. I stopped seeing it as much and purchased it whenever I did find it. I walked into CT the other day and guess what? Target had it! I'm ringing up at the self check out and it's so organized. The woman at the front is really helping and guiding people, instead of chilling and talking like at other places. To add, the place is just spotless. The floor shines. I forgot this used to be Carson's. I used to come to that spot as a kid and it was so yellow and dingy, sorry Carson's it's my memory. This City Target just screams bright, happy, stay! Eh, I'm not overly impressed with this Target. I realize they are working with some constraints in the historic building, seems like they could do a little better though. The layout is somewhat odd, clothes and groceries split up between both floors. Why not put the workout stuff upstairs with the rest of the clothes? It would be nice to have more produce and less dips. Seriously, what's with all the refrigerated dip? I know it's Target's house brand but are they really selling that much dip? I just like saying "dip". Why is the protein powder downstairs? That's not considered food? The shampoo and conditioner is on one side of the store, with the makeup and nail polish. The soap and other bath and body stuff is on the other side of the store. Is shampoo considered makeup now? I don't understand a lot of what's going on here. I Really need someone to please celebrate the gentleman at the tech department in the 4466 n Broadway location in Chicago. I arrived to the store after receiving terrible service at the boost Mobile down the Street. Michael saw that i was frustrated and turned a negative experience from another retailer into a sale. Not only was he knowledgeable but he was clear about everything and asked questions about what i wanted regarding my phone service. He was so patient with me as well as all the customers around him . Who were asking questions left and right. It's nice to see great service and it's even more amazing to see someone do it by keeping his composure the entire time despite being the only associate working the counter. Thank u Michael for restoring my faith in the concept of providing great service. He did s phenomenal job and should be appreciated for that. read more

Nice to see a Targent "in" the city. I'm from a smaller city where Targets stand alone and usually the first thing you have to deal with is a sprawling parking lot, so it's refreshing to see one a) without a parking lot and b) integrated into the building's historical architecture. Once you come into the revolving doors (at Target!) everything is pretty much what you would expect from a Target. Seems like this one makes the most of its space upstairs and down. If you are used to the stand-alone Targets, the selection here may be limited, but it's still a good amount and its great to have options in the city. I came in here looking for a gift, but left empty handed since the specific item I was searching for wasn't on shelves (due to the limited selection). No worries though... everyone else in the store seemed to be finding what they needed. Between the escalators, customers, and all the aisles, you can definitely spend some time here, but the store is organized in a way that you can also just get in and out. Good seasonal section and it looked like a lot of Chicago paraphernalia around since I'm sure there are a lot of tourists that flock here while saying within the loop or visiting Millennium Park. read more
