I would like to update my review. I did have the sofa redone at your shop. We discussed ad nauseam that it would be a comfortable soft sofa and that the velvet would not attract as much dust and lint as it does. You said it was specifically a better product. I had another chair recovered in velvet at Calico Corners in Wilmette and it does not attract dust and lint at all so it is not necessarily a function of all velvets. You were not nearly as helpful as you sound here on yelp when I had these complaints after the sofa was done. You' were completely unresponsive and refused to assist any further. At minimum, the sofa should've been comfortable and you definitely did mislead me on your product. read more

Let me tell you about the best customer service I've had in years. I purchased a buffet, took it home and noticed in my lighting the finish was a little off in a couple areas. Called Megmade to see what I could do on my end. They told me that there was nothing I could do--the only way to fix this was to sand it down and re-finish it. They would pick it up and bring it back to me within 2 weeks. Wait What???? Did I mention I live in Wisconsin? Yes they picked it up--refinished it--delivered it back to me in perfect shape. Oh MegMade, how I adore thee! Seriously. MegMade is an absolute gem! I stumbled upon this place one day while searching for vintage furniture on the Internet. I called them and asked if I could stop by their warehouse to look for a dresser that I had spotted online. They were super kind and allowed me to browse forever. I immediately purchased the dresser and a nightstand because well, it was a Drexel and absolutely gorgeous! It's so hard to find nice, refinished furniture these days. A few days later I stopped back in a purchased another dresser with the intention of making it into an entertainment stand. They were so kind to customize the color for me and gut the middle of it so that I could place my cable box, etc in it. Lastly Meg is awesome. She had a a amazing eye for design and is incredibly helpful when you are picking out pieces. They can even find you pieces if you give them an idea of what you are looking for. I plan on buying another mirror, headboard and coffee table from them. I'm always impressed with their work and the furniture. I wanted to love my experience with MegMade, as I have frequented their old and new showroom and have been waiting for the day that I could put one of their pieces in my home. The initial visit to the store was great, but it's been not stop problems since then. The refinished buffet we ordered took about a month longer than expected (which we were very understanding about), and then once it was delivered, we determined they did not install the shelves or the correct hardware on it. Again, we were very patient and understanding that mistakes happen. We had to have it taken back to the store (and we live an hour away). They pushed back the second delivery after "fixing" it, saying that they were making sure it was absolutely perfect for us, however, once it was delivered, it had more wrong hardware installed on it. The doors were then taken off of the buffet to go back for them to fix the hardware. When the doors were delivered back to us, they were missing the magnetic pieces on the inside that helps keep the doors securely shut. After speaking with them, MegMade was going to ship those magnetic pieces out to us for us to install and sent us tracking information. Now, 3 weeks later, we still have not received magnetic pieces and the shipping tracking says that the carrier is waiting to receive the package. We have been calling and emailing and MegMade is not responding. My husband and I have been VERY disappointed in the customer service response time throughout this whole process. One time my husband had to drive an hour to show up at their store to talk to someone because they weren't picking up the phone, returning voicemails or responding to our emails. As much as I love their concept, this experience unfortunately would make me never recommend them to others. I don't understand how they function as a business with all the careless mistakes and the need for furniture to be sent back and forth and with the lack of communication/response! read more

Great quality work. Bit pricey. Staff nice. Got piece back as promised. We had a piece done and wanted a smaller piece done but the quote we got was so much higher than our more intricate piece we had done. In times like this, you might want to consider having a super sale or something. Your sales are not really a sale. Just saying. LOVE your stuff and the pieces you have, but wish it could be more affordable. The first piece, a dresser for our master bedroom, we had custom finished after multiple trips to their warehouse to find the right style and size. Ordered my furniture in November of last year and am just now receiving it. They are not big on being accommodating for their customers. Just to respond to their comment so everyone on this board and beyond are aware: this is a common tactic of MegMade: to add insult to injury by blaming the customer, fabricating the gaps. "...so sorry you felt the need to bring it to this point.." -- there were multiple opportunities to fix this ordeal entirely, but as others on this board have astutely pointed out: bluntly, there is no customer service ethos at MegMade. Read the prior reviews and this dominant theme is inescapable. Buyer beware -- there's a fairly decent chance you'll be out $1000-$5000, stuck with a piece of broken-janky-crap furniture with no communication and no recourse (but lots of fake pleasantries to avoid confronting the actual issue). I ordered a buffet from MegMade and it was poorly done. The door hinges are bad, the refinishing is spotty and the paint is uneven. Even the delivery team noted that it still needed work and promised someone would call me to set up a time to fix it. That was a year ago. I really don't have time to chase them around. When I look at this piece now, I'm so frustrated that I paid so much for this buffet. I would have been better off buying new. I've also found the process and the communication to be slow. Even though I don't live in the area, I started following on Instagram as I was really impressed with what they are doing. So sad. I ordered two pieces. The first was a bed table that came out perfect, exactly what I wanted. The second piece was a dresser/buffet. I ordered both a few weeks before Xmas and they were adamant about getting them to me before the 25th. Hey, I wasn't gonna say no. The pieces arrived on a Saturday and I was very excited by the bold color the sale's lady chose for me. Shortly after the delivery men left, I noticed several scratches on my hardwood floors. Ugh! On Monday I spoke to one of the owners and he asked me to text him photos of the damage. I did. He text me that they would discuss and me in contact. They never got back to me. Later, I noticed that the buffet piece was poorly finished. It looked like it needed another coat of paint. It was darker in some areas and lighter in others. They were so nice to work with in the store.However, I feel like they rushed my pieces to get them out before Xmas. So I end up with a wonky buffet, scratched floors, a nice bed table, but they're moving on up to a bigger and better store? Maybe that's why they never called me back? read more

If you want a fabulous answer to the question: "Where can I find a unique piece of furniture?", MegMade is your answer. My husband and I just purchased a combination bar cart/cabinet. It was in their showroom, already conditioned. In essence, these folks take beautiful, vintage pieces and make them more beautiful. You can purchase something from their showroom or pick something that hasn't yet been conditioned and have it custom-painted, laminated, or repaired, as needed. I really dislike to give anyone a bad review but i have to let the owner know since I didn't get a chance. So I pass this place every day not knowing what its was going to be till I ask and found out it was going to be a "upscale furniture " store was very excited since I have a few Antiques my self. I finally made well to the store the other day as soon as I enter I made my way to the show floor which is upstairs. I walk in to the floor and their was women on the counter and No Hello No Welcome or any Greeting of any kind. I continue to browse and honestly felt the place cold with no character the pieces are ok. Any way after spending about 15 mats and no one came or ask if I needed anything I decided that this place those NOT deserved my money or my energy. As I walk out I look at the women in the desk and you would think there would be a Thanks Come Again or something nope nada . As a Business Owner my self , my team is to greet ANY one that walks through the door. So with that being said is hope you learn to acknowledge people as customers are the ones that make your business. read more

I was a bit awestruck - every piece was gorgeous, charming & lovely! MegMade offers a stunning selection of refurbished antique furniture and and ready-to-be-customized antiques. I love my dresser! I went in on a day that the warehouse was open and was able to choose a mid-century dresser and specify a perfect paint color. It was delivered to 3rd floor apartment at a time that worked for me by a nice person. This piece is so unique but it fits the decor of my space like a glove. Update: I spoke with MegMade and they sent Kevin out to check out my buffet (he's wonderful). Kevin wanted to make the piece look top-notch so he brought it back to the shop and fixed some of the issues with the piece. My big concern was a blue stripe on the bottom and some streaking. The stripe is gone, and there's less streaking. Wooo hoo! read more

Just an update. 3 years later, the piece they refinished for me? It's in an area of the house that never gets touched really. Other than to clean and it's peeling etc on the groove parts. I will need to re touch up with paint (if I can find the name of it now) I certainly never expected to need to do touch ups on a piece that gets very little interaction. It's pretty pricey to have this done here so I do expect longevity. read more

I normally don't write reviews but this was definitely one to remember: I purchased a beautiful hand painted charcoal black dresser about a week ago. I had it for about two days and decided to try and move it into another room myself... not a good idea! I ended up putting a huge scratch in it! Called MegMade and asked them what to do and they said they could give me some touch up paint to fix it. The next day they called me and said they were going to be in my area so they could even drop it off. One of their employees showed up and explained to me how to fix it and ended up just coming up and fixing it for me! :) What great customer service. I would highly recommend them to anyone. It's rare to find solid wood furniture that doesn't cost a fortune but MegMade delivers! I had gone to crate and barrel, pottery barn and west elm and everything was just so cookie cutter and most was particle board. I want a home that's a little different and MegMade is making that happen. I recently bought a gorgeous buffet and hutch that is mid century modern in style, the price was more than reasonable and the refinish job was amazing. I go back to MegMade every few weeks (or every week! ) because they always have new stuff that's been brought in or refinished. I've still got a lot of furniture to buy and MegMade is my number 1 destination to find unique, high quality, fun furniture that no one else on the block will have! We've purchased two great vintage pieces from MegMade in the last year (the latest one earlier this month from their new showroom), and I would recommend working with them. Our first piece was a vintage walnut and white lacquer buffet - a custom job Meg did for us at a discount after a piece we found on Etsy turned out to be already sold. Our latest piece is a great little mid-century dresser finished in bright blue with gold hardware. After recently visiting their showroom, I can also say they've upped their game on finishes, which tended to be a bit inconsistent the first time I saw their work last summer. If you like quality solid wood furniture and are looking for something unique at a great price, definitely take a look and keep looking if you don't see what you want the first time around. They have new inventory constantly and a new warehouse full of great stuff ready for refinishing. I will say that we had minor customer service snafus with both experiences, but the team was incredibly gracious and responsive in resolving any issues (and was definitely concerned with our satisfaction). Just keep in mind that you're working with a small local team, not a large national retailer. read more
