TLDR: Bed broke within a month, after replacement beam was sent realized the bed was not cut properly and that's why headboard wont sit flush. HUGE quality issues. Product is NOT ready for non-local customers at all.
This review is for a product purchase through Urban Billy, and not for their showroom.
I had purchased a bed from Urban Billy after seeing the very good reviews on Etsy, and chose to purchase directly from their website as a fellow small business owner and artist myself, I know etsy fees can be terrible. Everything seems fine save for a mix up on the solid platform pricing, which they honored the price I was originally told. Great. Before buying I had asked about weight limits as they are not listed on the site, and was told not a number but basically 'not to worry at all' Ok, sure! My partner and I aren't large, but it's always nice to check!
Then things go down hill. The bed arrives and there are zero instructions, paperwork, or any kind of note with it. I wonder if they've forgotten the instructions, which for the price of a monthly mortgage, seems odd. I then call, leave a voicemail, (no return call since, just an email), and message their IG. Their IG responds quickly thankfully, saying they do not have instructions for my model, but instead a general instruction guide which is for another model entirely, and is only text, or an awkward single angle wide shot of someone building the bed, where you cannot see what they are doing.
You will also need tools! Sure, not too big of a deal, but if you just have a basic wrench, it's gonna be a VERY Long build. Had I known ANY of this before purchasing I would not have purchased. I immediately felt taken advantage of since the instructions were not available for my model. I'm thankful I have some background in woodworking, and a family member who is very skilled that I could ask questions for.
All that being said, not something you expect from what is a luxury item.
Finally the bed is done and I'm frustrated because items like the headboard don't sit flush, and the solid platform I paid extra for is just a few thin pieces, unevenly cut, of plywood, that has since started leaking sap onto my mattress, and the floor/items under our bed.
Our main support beam snaps less than a month later, turns out its half soft wood with a giant knot in the beam itself, which should have never made it past any quality checks if they knew what they were doing. I'm in touch with Urban Billy immediately, and to their credit they do send out a beam, however the person I was speaking to, Kyle, had not even looked it over, despite me asking him if it was free of soft wood and large knots. He dodged my question about the beam for a few emails, and I had to chase him up for the tracking code after the time frame he gave me passed, and I saw the item had been received by fed ex, only after I asked about it.
Since taking the bed apart to replace the beam, after a week of sleeping on the floor, I realize the legs weren't cut properly and that the headboard does not sit flush because of this. Mind you, I have been told they build the bed before it goes out to quality check, and somehow they decided this all was fine and there were no issues, so they shipped it. The new beam also came with two new brackets, one of which was a completely different size than the old ones and the other new one, and longer screws. Again, not sure where the quality checks are happening.
Kyle has since said that I can ship all the products back, and they would sort that for me, which, sure, would be great, if the bed didn't already break, and I've already had to chase them up about all of these quality issues. Frankly I don't believe they will fix it, and I'm tired of being someone's part time manager for a very expensive bed frame that boasts quality and pride of being American made, but ships a product like this.
Ideally I am looking for even a partial refund, because I don't feel comfortable sleeping on my bed, and I worry it's going to snap again like it did last time. I deeply regret purchasing from Urban Billy, which is a shame because their designs are genuinely beautiful, and I was excited about buying a full bedroom set after this bed. I am also leaving this review because all the others seem to be local people, or etsy reviews, and I hope this saves someone else wasting their money.
My partner and I are now sleeping worried when this thing will break again, because we've found so much wrong with it.
What a shame. read more
