It's rare to find solid wood furniture that doesn't cost a fortune but MegMade delivers! I had gone to crate and barrel, pottery barn and west elm and everything was just so cookie cutter and most was particle board. I want a home that's a little different and MegMade is making that happen. I recently bought a gorgeous buffet and hutch that is mid century modern in style, the price was more than reasonable and the refinish job was amazing. I go back to MegMade every few weeks (or every week! ) because they always have new stuff that's been brought in or refinished. We've purchased two great vintage pieces from MegMade in the last year (the latest one earlier this month from their new showroom), and I would recommend working with them. Our first piece was a vintage walnut and white lacquer buffet - a custom job Meg did for us at a discount after a piece we found on Etsy turned out to be already sold. Our latest piece is a great little mid-century dresser finished in bright blue with gold hardware. After recently visiting their showroom, I can also say they've upped their game on finishes, which tended to be a bit inconsistent the first time I saw their work last summer. If you like quality solid wood furniture and are looking for something unique at a great price, definitely take a look and keep looking if you don't see what you want the first time around. They have new inventory constantly and a new warehouse full of great stuff ready for refinishing. I will say that we had minor customer service snafus with both experiences, but the team was incredibly gracious and responsive in resolving any issues (and was definitely concerned with our satisfaction). We went to MegMade after someone suggested it to us when we moved to a new apartment. We picked out a great dresser and mirror out of the great selection. Meg even made some slight adjustments to them so they would match each other and the rest of the furniture in our room. After we got our new pieces (delivered easily and on time), we decided we wanted our bookshelves to match the dresser and mirror. So Meg mixed us up a can of the paint she used on the pieces and gave us some pointers for how to best paint our shelves. Highly recommend MegMade. I have three pieces from Megmade. The third piece was very large so we paid for delivery. During the delivery the piece got a little nicked. Megmade returned the piece to the shop and fixed the issue. We have had the piece for several years now and still get complaints on it. Meg and her team are actual miracle workers you guys, they are pure MAGIC! I have a lovely vintage dresser that's been with me for 6+ years and when I recently moved into my new condo it finally hit me that it was decidedly much more shabby than chic...so I sent it off to Meg's magical workshop to be given a facelift! The initial pictures I sent didn't quite convey the state that it was in (layers and layers of paint, there was duct tape on nearly every drawer, and there were several chunks of wood missing, and that was just on the outside) so I took trip up to their store front/warehouse (which by the way is amazing!) and met with Meg to talk about our options...after explaining the story behind the dresser and the emotions I have attached to it, and discovering our Kansas City roots connection (KCMO represent!!), she said they would work their hardest to make the dresser look good again... ...and boy did she deliver on that promise(!!!), and then some...I was absolutely blown away when the dresser was delivered last week!!! I would have been happy with just a new coat of paint to be honest, but Meg and her elves, er, I mean her team, stripped that baby down, filled holes, took off tape, added trim where it was missing, to make a long story short they worked their magic because it looks brand, spankin' new, it's a total showstopper!!! What a disappointment. The owners, Meg and Joe, were very pleasant and upbeat upon meeting them in their store. When we made our first purchase, I was extremely happy to be supporting a local, woman owned business. However, more than two months later, I am still missing pieces to the hutch that I purchased, rendering it useless. Despite my repeated attempts to contact the shop as well as Meg directly, I was offered absolutely no recourse with the exception of a discount for a future purchase which I find quite offensive. Don't be lured into making a purchase from MegMade based on their lovely marketing tactics. Meg's lack of communication and unwillingness to acknowledge and correct an error when it occurs is disheartening. Particularly since I will now be stuck with this furniture in my home that will serve as a constant reminder of my regret in making this purchase. read more

BUYERS BEWARE!!! I purchased 2 nightstands online in the summer. Knowing that we would not be able to come to Chicago for several months, I called the store to make sure it was okay and they said no problem. When we finally planned a trip to Chicago in December, I called ahead to make sure they still had the nightstands and to see if we could see them in person. The woman on the phone told me she wasn't sure if we could see them because they were in storage, but we could pick everything out nonetheless. I was a bit disappointed by this since I really wanted to see what I purchased, but I understood. We dragged our kids and grandparents into the store and spent an hour picking out colors, style and spoke to the lady about hardware. I asked if we could pick them up on MLK day since my husband had the day off and could come back and she said no problem. I emailed and called two weeks later and never heard back. Finally, 3 weeks later (and after MLK day), I received an email letting me know that they couldn't find the nightstands and think somebody stole them. WHAT??? They needed to wait a whole month to tell me this?!? I asked for my money back and it took 5 phone calls, who knows how many emails and almost 6 weeks later for me to finally get my refund! What awful customer service and a complete waste of our time. You've been warned!!!! read more

Overall I had a positive experience with Meg Made. I was looking for something custom and stumbled upon this place online. I came in to see Meg in person who was very nice. We talked about exactly what I wanted done with my dresser and we agreed upon an approximate time for delivery. I also said I really wanted a few extra days for the piece to sit out so that it doesn't have any kind of fumes of paint smells. Upon the time of arrival, the dresser I ordered looked nice but it came with a few imperfections and the hardware gold color wasn't exactly what I wanted but here's what Meg did right away to make things right. Everyone makes mistakes, no one is perfect, but she made things right and perfect. She had her delivery guys take the piece back and had a much better product delivered a few days later. It looks stunning, just what i had envisioned in my head, I don't mind at all that it wasn't perfect the first time around. What I like is their business approach that if something isn't quite right or perfect, she will make it perfect. I only do wish they didn't rush it the second time as it did have a little bit of a paint smell that I'm not fond of but it may not bother most people as I'm just very sensitive to smells. What's also nice is that if you share whatever piece you order with Meg, she will send you a gift card for $25 to use as a thank you for giving her business. I do plan on working with Meg in the future as I like that she acknowledges when she makes a mistake and makes things right. In this day and age when there are so many businesses out there, I really want to work with people, not who are perfect, but ones who work to make things perfect and understand what you are looking for. My dresser is standing, although a little smelly still from the paint, but it's beautiful and looks very elegant in our master bedroom. Thank you to the MegMade team! read more

Not a positive experience here. Was recommended by a friend and I had a piece that needed refinishing. My first visit wasn't that impressive but my friends enthusiasm kept me to pursue my piece getting done, they had it for 3 weeks and after going to pick it up myself on my drive home I realized only half of one shelf had been refinished. I drove it immediately back only to break away the plastic wrap to find many more parts of my piece not finished. Really what bothered me more than the unfinished botched work was Meg's demeaning/ patronizing attitude like it was no big deal, she had multiple excuses. Weeks went by, no phone calls- nothing. I emailed asking if my piece was done yet- after a second email I received a phone call from Shelby to set up free delivery, my piece was delivered another week later. The delivery guy upon walking into my house was very kind and said that he was told to tell me a gift card was being mailed to me for the inconvenience. It's been another two weeks and no gift card, no apology, no follow-up, nothing. It's been nearly 2 months since this all began. Meg was happy to take my money, but that's where her service ended. read more

One of them was a piece of her grandmothers that we brought in to have refinished, and they did a fantastic job and turned it around faster than they originally said they would. They are very collaborative in helping you decide how to redo a piece of furniture, offering advice while also listening to your ideas. When my order was delivered timely but damaged I never got a response to my call or email. I decided to live with the chip in the paint as this was going into a childs room anyway. I was looking to have a piece of furniture painted and re-upholstered. After looking at MegMade's work on social media I was impressed and moved forward with the project. I set up time to look at fabric in the store and staff was very helpful with picking fabric. Order was placed, paid in full, and an estimate date of completion was provided (6 weeks). 6 weeks had come to fruition and I contacted the shop to get an update and was told next week it would be finished. I followed up next week and it was pushed back again. This wasn't a problem for me personally because I wasn't in a rush but I was a bit annoyed I had to contact the shop to get an update vs. the merchant contacting me. I arranged a pick-up date and although they were expecting me my piece was not ready for pick-up on arrival. Overall, the customer service was the only reason I would give four stars instead of five. I am 100% satisfied with the end product just wish things went a bit smoother in transition. Would do business with this merchant again as I do love their work and like to support local businesses in Chicago. read more

Meg helped with the custom paint colors/design work.... and helped us find the right piece for our unique space and needs. We also used a hand-me-down dresser that we had that was slightly worn, but solid wood, for my daughter's bedroom. MegMade used a magic wand to make it a dreamy, light pink with EXTRA shine...just what every little girl would want! Just had our first MegMade piece delivered today! We originally found a piece on Craigslist and went to the showroom to check it out. It didn't work out for aesthetic reasons, but luckily Meg pointed us in the direction of MegMade's warehouse, just a few blocks away (it's walkable). There, we picked out a completely new piece and were able to guide the custom design process ourselves, free of charge. Less than two weeks later the piece is now in our dining room. Absolutely love MegMade. This is my second purchase and so happy with it. I bought a dresser to double as a changing table for my newborn. It's a stunning piece that she will be able to grow into! The amount of drawers is so helpful for all the items a baby needs. The changing table pad fits on top of the dresser perfectly and overall this is a much better use of money than buying an changing table that can only be used for a short time. I recently purchased a bar cart and a dresser from MegMade. While the furniture is definitely on the more expensive side, it's much better quality than something you'll get at a chain furniture store, and you know you're getting a one-of-a-kind piece. I paid for delivery on the dresser which was well worth it ($80 for one piece, goes up from there) - the guys were super professional, arrived right on time, and were really friendly. My only complaint is about the dresser. I was able to customize the piece with the paint color of my choice. After the delivery guys dropped it off, I inspected the dresser and realized there were a few flaws in the paint job. First, there are two strange brown spots on one of the drawers. Probably not noticeable to anyone else, but it bothers me. Second, after opening and closing one of the drawers a few times (we were filling them up with clothing), I saw that the paint was already chipping away on the surrounding wood. Luckily Meg provides a free cup of "touch up" paint for nicks like this, but it was frustrating to have this happen within the first few hours of owning it, and I feel like it'll be an ongoing problem. All that being said, I would definitely buy here again. It's a great local business, and Meg is really good at what she does. Make sure to go next door to the warehouse of unfinished pieces if you visit - no one took us over there until the second time I was there (to pick up the bar cart I had already paid for), and I really wish I had seen that before purchasing my dresser. Also, while they have lots of end tables, dressers, buffets, and hutches, the one thing I felt like they were missing was coffee tables! I would have loved to get one of those from her, but couldn't find anything. I hope this becomes part of the inventory soon! read more

It seems to me that the business has gotten too big and quality and attention to detail just isn't there any more. I have purchased three items from Meg Made over the last three years. I most recently ordered a china hutch and a buffet to use as an entertainment center. My issue is with the buffet... first I had to send it back so they could put shelves in instead of drawers, even though I had told them that is what we wanted initially. They made me pay extra for the shelves, which was really upsetting when it was their mistake, and in addition I had to wait two more weeks to get my furniture. I get the buffet and everything seems ok until I notice there are drips on the front center of the item, not good. Then, less than a month after having the item, a handle falls off one of the drawers. I noticed that the handle was already fixed badly and Meg won't call or email me back to fix the handle or find a replacement after over a month of contacting them frequently. Now I have a $1000+ broken buffet that I have owned for a couple months, such a bummer. read more

I. Love. This. Place. There is hardly more to say, but I will say more! I was thrilled to be introduced to MegMade in November and now I'm completely addicted even though I don't need additional furniture after buying a bureau for my master bedroom and dining room set. All mid-century. I met Meg but mostly worked with Shelby who is a delight. I loved how I was able to wander through the items that had yet to be refinished to find the pieces that were right for my home. I snatched up a dining room set just after they had posted it online. Lucky me that I was there at the right time! The pieces were delivered yesterday and they are GORGEOUS! I'm tickled to have pieces that are custom for me and my personality, including a hot pink interior in my beautiful bedroom bureau. In addition, they sent a lovely flower arrangement with a hand-written note with my pieces. You'll never find these kind of pieces or get that kind of service in a big-box store.
