I attempted to purchase a laptop for my wife on Sunday 7/5/2020. The store was not accepting cash or checks so I attempted to pay with a debit card. The debit card did not have enough available funds to pay for the laptop so the store reversed the transaction I had to go to the bank and deposit more money to cover the total purchase. When I returned to the store I had to pay the complete purchase price 970.00 dollars. I've taken my PC to Microcenter six times, still no fix. I bought the entire system at Microcenter and assembled it myself. Afterwords, I suppose I botched the install because I was receiving several errors. This last time, the sixth time. I took it to the manager, where he said he would figure out if it was hardware or OS related. He told me he would take the Motherboard out of the PC as well. Well, what I received was a $40 PC Doctor software scan for my hardware and a "It's definitely OS related" So, I re-installed Windows and WHAT DO YOU KNOW? During the installer (WINDOWS not installed at this point) I received the same errors!! So, I guess I'll have to take it to them again, since I'm powerless here. I hope they actually isolate the hardware away from the system, that way they can properly do their job. Stopped into this Microcenter with my wife to buy DVD-RW discs, and to browse products as I had never been to one before. After searching through aisles with no price tags I decided to get the small pack of 5 from the aisles I seen that lane 1 and 2 had their light on. I put my products on the counter when the cashier not so subtly told her fellow co-worker next to her "these people are coming to my register, like I'm open and shit". Taken aback, my wife asked her "excuse me?" which her response was "I wasn't talking to you, I was talking to her" referencing the cashier at lane 2. After that was said I didn't say another word because at that point I decided to go to the returns area in order to speak with a supervisor. After waiting for a brief period a supervisor walked past and I stopped him and informed him of what had happened. He apologized and said he'll do something about it. I left and l said nothing else. This was the first and last time this store will be getting my money. It only cost me a few bucks to know that I will only be indulging my hobby at Fry's or Newegg. This is really a mixed bag here. At least they're better than they were last year. They've been getting a lot of complaints at their main office in Ohio and they're finally starting to take the problems seriously. A lot of bad reviews can do that.:) At least now they actually answer the phone once in a while. Some of their employees still act like prison guards but a few of them are actually nice. Their customer service is improving too. Last year was a lost cause. Yell at them now and you'll get your way. My husband and I have been to Micro Center many times, both locations. We generally found the selection good, prices fair, and never had a problem returning items when needed. Lines always seemed to move slowly, and there were times when it was difficult to find help on the salesfloor. There were sometimes stock issues when it came to advertised sale items. Despite these drawbacks - which we found to be minor annoyances - we still considered this a place to shop. Now, we've had an experience that will cause us to never return. We used the online purchase and pick-up service to assist my husband's elderly aunt in buying a tablet computer. We made my husband the authorized pick-up agent. She never received a confirmatory email from the store advising that the item was picked and ready for pick-up. She called the store and spoke to customer service and the store manager. They did not provide an explanation for why she didn't receive a confirmation email. They both informed her that my husband wasn't listed as the authorized pick-up agent. They claimed that they couldn't change this after the fact. They refused to offer her any alternatives or provide additional assistance in order satisfy her as a customer and keep the sale. So she canceled the order. As someone who's worked in retail, I can assure you that this is bullfeces. There is always a work-around to keep the sale and satisfy the customer. Since the problem is ultimately the retailer's faulty website - online ordering software so buggy that it doesn't process sales correctly, doesn't send confirmatory emails, and strips information from the forms - its the responsibility of the retailer to complete the sale through another means. Since there's essentially no difference between an online order and a phone order, it seems like a no-brainer to cancel the original online order and then redo it as a phone order. Nope! Not Microcenter! They'd rather steadfastly refuse to offer an obvious alternative to an elderly woman, lose a $400 sale, piss off three people - one of whom Yelps - and lose all of those additional potential sales. Jerry from the service department was extremely rude. The minute I walked in & waited in line and he said " will be with you in one moment, have you been here before?" I said "not this location" his response was " of course not." Whatever that's supposed to mean??? Anyway the reason why I went in was because I spoke to a very kind gentleman over the phone named Carlos, he said he'd be able to help me out & check my equipment out when I came in. When I walked up to the counter I let him know what happened to my computer. Jerry immediately quoted me a xx fee and diagnostic check fee and said it would take a minimum of 48 hrs before receiving updates. He was so quick to jump to that, that he didn't even give me the chance to tell him I already spoken to another rep who said they'd check it out when I got there, (it's almost if he was trying to run me out with those numbers and the wait.) Then I finally was able to mention all that Carlos told me. Jerry almost seemed surprised that someone was actually nice enough to help. A couple mins passed and Carlos came out and checked out my laptop. I'm so glad Carlos was more than willing to actually check out the situation before jumping the gun to quote me & was so nice from the phone to my in-store experience. I have been to other locations, and have always had excellent service, same to what Carlos provided me with. Carlos thank you so much for your help and all your kindness. it is unfortunate that Jerry was the exact opposite of Carlos. Siren's song beckoned me cross town.... I needed a printer -- Upon selecting the make and model I wanted, I looked it up on Micro Center's website for availability -- NINE!??! they had 9 in stock !! My quest lay before me. Opening the door, I scanned the wonderous vista in front of me. As luck would have it, I encountered a young man just steps inside!! Since I'd been chanting the model number to myself from the time i left my apartment I asked him where I'd find the Canon MX330. (I'd already checked availability before I left home. He not only showed me where to find it, he got me a cart to put it in... AND he found me the USB cable and ink as well!! Other peripherals are further in the store -- and I ventured further. Their selection is vast - I must say. I could have easily spent twice as much as I intended upon spending. They could stand to tidy up a bit -- However, for as busy as it was, it actually wasn't bad. I've seen much, much worse. They allowed me to leave my purchases there whilst I shopped other stores also in the center. After waiting over a half hour for someone to decide to step behind the service counter to look at my laptop and see what's wrong, I decided to just purchase another laptop. I can hardly even describe what an amazing experience I had here last week! My 6 year old dell is on the verge of crashing, so after a recommendation from a friend, I headed over to Micro Center with the plan of just purchasing a few jump drives to back up my files. While I was there, I decided to take a look around at their computers too. I was immediately helped by Eric. He answered all of my (dumb) questions and made everything so easy to understand. In addition to that, he did not try to sell me the most expensive product to make his money. He directed me to a great machine that was on sale. The price was right, so I left that day with a brand new lap top and a great warranty too! Before checking out, the manager also came by to introduce himself and say thank you for my purchase and for stopping by! What put the icing on the cake was that I had several questions once getting home. Eric had given me his card so I took full advantage of sending him emails. Within a few hours I had responses with answers to my questions. I'm sure by now he regrets giving me his card at all! I have lots of comfort in knowing that this is the type of service I will receive if I need to take in my new toy for any repairs. read more

Went here to get my computer debugged and generally reset. Did what they said they were going to do, in a timely fashion, and at a standard price (not cheap, but in line with others). Only reason I didn't give a 5 star rating is that waiting for customer service here, which is the same counter as repairs, can be a test of ones patience. read more

I've always liked MCenter a little as they have computer components that I buy that others stores don't have, I guess good for that still sometimes as live close by. But, to buy something here is often paying too much or getting crap quality. I usually avoid stores like Best Buy as they sell for list price with few sales but Microcenter P'd me off recently as they really tout price matching. Tried to buy a wireless router extender here, $69 at Best Buy, $169 at Microcenter, and they wouldn't match it - apparently if they price their items too high then they won't even match any store competitor. All this while the actual manufacture (Cisco Linksys) is selling for $49 on their store with 2 day shipping. I found that out after MCenter turned down the match. So thanks, now I get it even cheaper I guess and not from your crap store where returns can be a nightmare. If I was just a plain customer buying this I'd pay almost 4x the amount on it, ridiculous, from Microcenter. This is common with a lot of their items so make sure you shop around locally but mainly online as well. Stores like this are going to struggle if they don't more proactively match other prices and provide better service. Heck, in 10 years we'll just get the best price item from Amazon and have it delivered same day (may via air drone)... ;-) read more

This place sucks and I hate it. "But Why?" you may ask. I work in the IT field. The sales guys here I have heard give grossly misinformed advice several time- I only wonder if they do it because they are on commission or something. Speaking of which- The sales personal back where you can buy computers and tv's are like bad used-car salessharks. I have had to go there to help my clients out in a bind but I try to avoid the place. On another note, I was looking to drop down a few thousand on a new TV- JUST because it was a hot day, I was wearing a tank top and all my tattoo were showing. I was treated like I was dumb shit, even though I can run RINGS around these folks technically. I went down the street and bough what I was looking for at Best Buy. If you have some time, and know what you need to get, I would suggest shopping for computer things online. My first suggestion would be www.newegg.com. True that about finding deals online as noted by earlier reviewers. About this location though, I do have to warn you about the long lines. They look up every customer in their database as they make a purchase, so that contributes to the lines. Between the lines and ridonk data entry on checkout, this wouldn't get more than 2 stars, but Microcenter redeems itself on a couple other counts. - They have a decent selection of computer books and magazines, from Mac to Linux to Windows and such. They did compress that area to allow space for console games and such, but I was still able to find some crucial Maya animation books I couldn't wait to have shipped. - Sometimes they have dirt cheap SDS memory cards and USB sticks. 1 gig USB keys for $9.99, 1 gig SDS for around $16. - Sometimes you need a piece of hardware you can't wait to have shipped. Nearest CompUSA is either in Skokie or downtown with no parking. Plus I hear CompUSA doesn't have much time left. So, if you can deal with the lines, which are even there on weekday mornings sometimes, then Microcenter might work for you. read more

Don't ever take your computer for servicing here. My iMac had a meltdown a few weeks ago (7/3), and was something beyond my ability to repair (iMacs, despite being awesome machines, are not ones you want repair yourself). As a rule I try to avoid taking my computers to service centers as I know they will always gouge you but I had little choice here. So my options were the Apple Store (my gut instinct said mucho expensive), Best Buy (Geek Squad! Hells No!) or Micro Center. I've been a frequent shopper of Micro-Center and have always appreciated the store as their stuff tends to be cheaper than most stores. So, I bit the bullet and took my machine there. I was told it would take 5-6 days for a repair. Not great, but considering the impending holiday, I could understand that. They would call with an estimate before they began work. Of course there was also the $70 up-front diagnostic fee I had to pay before anything happened. So I went home and waited, and waited, and waited. I was expecting a call from MC to tell me what was wrong but no call came. Finally on Wed (7/8) I called them. "Oh yeah, we called you and left a message on Friday, the day you brought it in." Huh? I checked my phone, there was no record of a Call, missed or received, or any message. WTF? I was not happy. I lost days for nothing. Basically my computer needed new RAM, and a new power supply. They wanted $150 for the Power Supply, plus $60 for labor. The RAM would cost me $60 plus another $60 for Labor. I told them to put in the Power Supply but just order the RAM and I'll install it myself (saving myself $60 for 5 minutes of labor) By now, I'm annoyed. I waited patiently for days, for these guys to call and they never did, and now I'm still waiting for the work to wrap up. Not trusting them to call me, I called again Thursday for an update. Nope still not ready. I didn't call on Friday, hoping they would call me. Nope, nothing. Saturday I went down there to get an update. Nope, still not done. OK, so its over a week and my computer is not done. This is BS. The manager came over and said that the part had arrived Friday but the tech was out till Monday. I told her this would not work, as my computer has been here over a week, caused in part by her people never calling me. She checked and said that their tech working that day was Mac Certified and could have it done by Sunday. OK, better. Well, they actually got it done that day (The power of positive bitching!) When I picked it up though, I saw that they never ordered the replacement RAM. The check-out girl said I could probably get from the Mac Area in the back. I went to their Mac section and asked if they had my Ram for the $60 the service center quoted. Sure they did, it costs $29.00! Wait, what? The service center was going to charge me double with an additional $60 service fee! WTF! So, I bought my RAM and left. That will be the last time I take my computer there. read more

All things considered, I think it can come out cheaper by going to Microcenter. Ordering online there's more to deal with: shipping, waiting, returns, over the phone customer service etc. Personally I prefer to get my hands on the box myself be able to read/look it over. As you may well know, some unforeseen issue may come up if you are putting something together or installing some hardware such as a drive or esp. a card of some type.Who wants to be sending things back and forth over the mail? I look around for good prices, and Microcenter isn't usually over priced. They have a large selection of hardware-big and small stuff. This includes a good selection of whatever it is you're looking for such as speakers or cards. It's like at the grocery store, they have different price levels of what you might be looking for, they also carry a lot of "generic" hardware that can work just as good. They have really good "deals" from time to time as well. It's a fun place to go and browse.They have a unique great section of computer books and mags.. Everything from stuff for beginners to rare hard to find topics, and how to instructionals. They have good sale prices for many of these. They also now carry video games too. About the sales people: I have found yes they are knowledgable, but they are still are in sales and often try to put somthing past you to make the best sale for them. For example: I once asked a worker if they such and such hardware on sale, that I thought I saw it advertised for a different price. They claimed to not know anything about that and directed me to another more expensive brand. I doubled checked and got their sales paper. Sure enough I was right, then I asked another worker to look it up for me and so it was. The first worker just ran over me so they could put their little name sticker on my purchase (if they help you with something they like to do that)- so beware. If they think you don't know, they may try to direct you to the most expensive whatever- so do your research first. Lastly, CompUSA- no way. They hardly have any selection, non-helpful workers, and a horrible return policy.Microcenter has never given me a hard time or even a bunch of "restocking fees" over returning something. read more

Why I give microcenter 5 stars? The prices are cheap. They have great deals and almost better ones than you can find online. Especially if you are looking for expensive apple computers, you will find a competitive price for those computers a couple of weeks ago. You will also find an interesting stock of 3d printer makebot machines. Those machines had been expensive 2 to 3 years ago. Now you can get those machines like up to 1500 to 2500. Not bad if you are into airplane modeling. As for customer service, I give them 5 stars because they work hard and extremely knowledgeable. They have good business and flocks of people come. I sometimes feel they are understaffed and need more employees. Otherwise, the sales reps have been friendly, knowledgeable, and courteous. I had been shopping at microcenter for many years. As for inventory, you will discover a wide selection of products ranging from accessories, hardware, software, labtops, ipads, ipods, computer gameing and do it yourself build your own computer dept. They also have plenty of parking. I have been shopping at microcenter since the 1990s. They are a great store. read more

I was in the market for a netbook and Micro Center is always the place I go to test all things computer related...I've been several times and the latest time was to test the 10 " Asus EeePC and the same sized HP mini2140. They didn't have the exact models of either but had similar versions of each and was able to see what these netbooks look and feel like. I think they had around 10 netbooks to choose from, far more than Best Buy. They also have over 25 laptops to test as well, and at least that many desktops as well as a huge monitor selection. I can't comment on the customer service b/c no one came up to me (it was very busy) but I was there to just browse and test. End of, made an online purchase and went w. the Asus EeePC...it's a total worker bee, great little netbook for those on the fly. (it has an astounding 9 hr battery life!) Lastly, my FIL who is an Electronic Engineer and probably only like the biggest geek techy I know, swears by Micro Center, absolutely loves it and could prob spend an entire day there, so they must know their stuff. read more

Maybe I'm just more critical of "computer stores" because I work in the field, but I don't think Micro Center is really that great. It is definitely not my first choice for computer components, systems, or really anything computer related in general. I'd come here for a pinch but the it's always better to order online because the deals Micro Center has are quite deceptive. Like most brick & mortar vendors, those prices tend to be their regular price augmented by mail-in rebates (which I'm not a fan of). The stock here is a mix of off-brand generics and name brand goods. The staff can pass off as being knowledgeable to the everyday consumer but I've heard them give bad advice time and again (3 of every 5 tips from the sales guys tend to be wrong or at the very least inaccurate). I'd even prefer CompUSA over this place. read more

MicroCenter is full of idiot sales people who claim to be "computer experts" but really know barely more than the average consumer. If I know the exact part I'm looking for, I can usually find it in less time than their typical sales person. Now bear in mind, I've been in the IT field for about a dozen or so years and have extensive network and troubleshooting experience. So yes, I'm a bit biased. For the average consumer who knows little about what they're looking at; chances are, MicroCenter may be a good place to go. They have a pretty good selection as far as sheer parts go. Their prices are full retail with a few breaks on their OEM accessories; but this is to be expected however. MicroCenter is convenient, and to the average consumer, possibly even helpful. Nonetheless, I think their sales force needs to be retrained in some basic computer concepts and troubleshooting. Otherwise, when I go in there, I'm a man on a mission: Get my stuff and get out. Micro Center is your typical brick and mortar computer store, so of course computers, parts, accessories, and software are generally going to be more expensive than online. What Micro Center is good for is things that you need right away and cannot wait a few days to receive from an online vendor, and compared to other stores like Best Buy and Circuit City, their inventory is exceptional. I bought my first Mac Powerbook 190 here in 1996 and got great help without feeling pushed or upsold. Recently, I had to buy a power adapter for my latest Mac that no other outlet in the city carried--and which I found at Micro Center for the same price as online. The store was clean and well organized and service was good. Maybe they might not always give the best advice on PCs, especially considering how many people nowadays are involved with computers, but if you know basically what you are doing, you'll be fine, and they'll probably have the part you need. In addition, they're better than all other computer stores in the area when it comes to Macs except the Apple Store, and in some cases can offer Apple parts not manufactured by Apple, thereby saving you a significant amount of money. I hope I won't need to go back to Micro Center anytime soon (fingers crossed), but if I do, I'm glad that I have it close to home. read more

The folks who work at Micro Center are knowledgeable and share my dorky interests. The downside of Micro Center was always that you'd pay a premium for shopping at a brick-and-mortar local store--they rarely beat the online guys on price. However today when shopping for a blu-ray drive the sales-guy OFFERED to price-match an online retailer (Newegg and TigerDirect were the two that he mentioned they'd do), thus saving me $30. This seems to be a store-wide policy. Shoot, I'll gladly pay the highest sales tax in the country for not having to wait a few days to get a component. read more

This company is using Covid to take advantage of customers. If you buy AirPods, they cannot be returned due to covid. I can understand if they are opened, but sealed and unopened? Nope. There is no real reason these can't be returned. Seems like they are doing this with a lot of products. Nothing great about MicroCenter but it is much better than a Circuit City or Best Buy in terms of computer supplies. The only time I really go here is if I need something right away. (Like when I needed secuirty cameras to monitor the Chicago Machine Politicians watch me and my brothers at our house.) However, their stock empties out quickly, so I end up leaving empty handed. The staff is limited on knowledge (but I will say they are much better than Best Buy or Circuit City) and the lines to checkout are somewhat of an issue. Shout out to Micro Center for my efficient and service-forward experience there today. I stopped in around 11:30 am to purchase an external hard drive. There was a sales associate in the aisle for hard drives (C. Pate, according to my receipt) and asked me as soon as I entered the aisle if I could use some assistance - which I totally needed! He didn't have all the answers to my questions, but he found them out. Helped me to select all of the components I needed and gave me (I felt) honest feedback on the products I was buying. I'm accustomed to some sometimes loooong lines at MicroCenter, but today, everything seemed to be moving pretty quickly. I actually had a customer service rep (Lauren T.) walk over to the line I was in and offered to check me out at her counter. She was extremely friendly, engaging and efficient. I was in and out in less than 20 minutes with all of the items I needed. Thanks so much for the friendly, welcoming and efficient service Micro Center. Side note: we also purchased a refurbished PC from this store several months ago. We had issues with the hard drive on that particular unit, returned it within the defined window and had zero issues with securing a replacement PC. Was it a pain that it failed and we had to return the PC for a new one. Absolutely! But our experience with the process was suprisingly very easy and we didn't lose hours of our time to get it done. The truth is, they are on commision. While they have a large variety of well stocked products, most of the time you just need to ignore everything they say, as there is a conflict of interest between your satisfaction and their paycheck. Don't blame the associate though, it is just the business model. read more

Electronic nerd central I used to come here all the time for cards for my camera They have super cheap flash drives too And cds & DVDs for burning They have a section just of Apple products, way in the back, where a bathroom would go There probably is a bathroom back there This most recent trip was for tools for my iPhone I could not find them in the tool aisle And the guy in Apple store section, "Nito" as other dude called him said they had 9 This guy was on a serious mission to find me these tools, he looked all over till he Brought them too me, after I had stopped following him around looking with him Got my tools, did the repairs on my iPhone Thanks! On the back of my tool kit it has a sticker that reads "your satisfaction is my #1 priority" with the associates name, Juanito My guess that is for commission purposes??? Or writing yelp reviews, he he but he couldn't have gotten much off a $5 tool kit But thanks for your help, Juanito. Rude staff. Asked about a PC case in the build a PC section. Guy acted disinterested in finding it for me, but eventually said he'd go check in back. A while later I saw him talking to other people and never heard from him again. I eventually got another staff member's attention, asking again if he thought they had any in stock because the website said they did, but the first guy noticed us talking and rudely said "I already helped him with that". So he never finished helping me and also had to interrupt and make me look stupid for trying to get an answer from someone else. At that point I should have left everything in my cart and walked out. But I had made the trip out there so I finished getting what I needed, never did get help with the case I wanted that was supposedly in stock. Not the first time I've experienced a general smugness from the guys in the PC section. read more
