So much for a peaceful, do very little Sunday. This has never happened to me before but my modem went out. Arghhh!! No WiFi is a terrible thing, it's like being deprived of sweets or beer. I started to get anxious and snarky - it was WiFi withdrawal, I felt a cold sweat come over me. After all of the trouble shooting and talking to Comcast, that was the conclusion so after a trip to Costco and BestBuy, we ended up at Office Max. While looking at the Modems and reading about each option, an employee approached us and offered assistance. He then gave several suggestions and after landing on a particular make and model - he honored a price match on Amazon!! It was a done deal and he even checked us out. Now that folks is called total customer service!! Hooray - problem solved!! Not really, I eventually had to purchase a new router later in the day - but that'll be for my BestBuy review. I usually buy 3 cartridges, 2 black XL & one color XL for somewhere in the $60 dollar range. Right now I have 2 black ink cartridges, but I need a Canon color ink cartridge as it's almost empty so I came to Officemax. They do have the 3 cartridges, 2 black XL & 1 color XL cartridge for $60.99 (no surprise). I was stunned to see they want $39.99 for a single XL color cartridge. What the 'F'? I have bought ink cartridges on line before. They always run out of ink very quickly. Does anyone know where to get the Canon 211 XL for a more reasonable price? read more

It is in a mall with other goid stores so when you are in a bind it's a great location. Friendly and courteous staff but the selections were lacking. Some items didn't have price tags indicating the costs. With a fair amount of shoppers present it became a challenge to get assistance The staff and team here are amazing for emergency print jobs! Yonus (Sales Rep) at the Print Center was very helpful when I came to get some documents printed. The wording on my document was not printing onto the paper when printed and he gladly fixed and adjusted in Word and everything printed out fine afterwards!! I have always gone to another vendor for business related print jobs - I'm truly excited that I found a team that is willing to help and goes the extra mile to help support what could be an extremely stressful occasion. Thanks Office Max for hiring great people!!! My review is long overdue. I have been doing business with the printing department for a couple of years now and I am always pleased and full of gratitude with every job. Thank you so much Printing Team. However, the people who work at the Village Crossing location in Skokie, IL, have always been friendly and helpful, and I always leave thinking, "Wow, that was a surprisingly pleasant experience!" I came in at 8:15 pm to get 17 training books printed. After 20 minutes of the young lady sitting on her computer, the job finally started printing at 8:36 pm. As the job starts printing, she turns to me and says "at 9 pm we will stop the printing and you'll need to leave with whatever is done." I asked to speak with a manager. He said, "we won't stay because we have all been here 10 hrs." Then he says sorry and walks away. TERRIBLE customer service. Maybe tell the customer that before you waste our time. read more

I've been to this store many times but never felt as welcomed as today Sunday, May 2, 2021. Today I walked in an grabbed a shopping cart. As I was walking towards the aisle that I needed to go. A Man named Merza asked " do you need any assistance in finding anything?" I told him no and continued to the aisle. As I was grabbing all the things I needed. Merza walked by and I told him Thank You for asking if I needed anything. He was the 1st person who has ever asked me In This Store if I needed anything or needed help. After I thanked him he asked if I needed anything else. I asked if he had anymore boxes in the back. He was so nice to check the inventory and got them for me. He helped me carry everything to the register. With no hesitation he asked me to pull up my car so he can help me put all the materials in my car. I was scoping them out for almost 2 months looking for a glass computor table.. finally went on sale & i got there sfter a Long Long day at work.. there were several models I had in mind & brought the sunday ad with the sales of them.. Well i wanted the glass one with the keyboard pull out.. The sticker on it appeared to be on sale but it wasnt.. so i thought i got the sale price for the one with the pull out keyboard.. Horrible, just awful- inept and over-priced tech people and bumbling store managers and customer service people. I wanted to buy a new laptop with Office Suite and anti-virus installed. I've now been to the store seven separate times and still don't have the computer. Phone calls promised and never made, ETAs on work being finished always missed and when the work is done and I stop in to pick it up, the computer hasn't worked properly and needs to stay in for more work. I was told the store manager would call me back in 5 minutes to try to make some sort of recompense. Of course it's an hour later and I'm still waiting. Walking into this store, you are met with utter silence. Now that's something that can be appreciated by people, I am sure, but I found it just eerie. I went in on a Monday afternoon and saw maybe one or two customers floating around the store with a few employees up front. I might have actually been able to hear a pindrop if not for the faint music that must have been playing through one sole speaker at the back corner of the store. It was so quiet and strange in fact that I really didn't want to spend a minute longer in that store than I had to. It's probably just me, but I am used to shopping in stores that are upbeat and not necessarily loud but with enough going on inside that I don't feel like I am the only one in the whole store. I don't necessarily like pushy employees that badger you with a series of questions when you are just in a store either browsing or not interested in what they are trying to sell you on. But it's about a balance and there are times when I would appreciate being greeted and asked if I need assistance like the time I went in. I was looking for a fine writing instrument that is somewhat hard to find as only nerds like myself would appreciate it. But not one person greeted me or approached me asking me if I needed help. Overall, I didn't see anything in the store that would cause me to return and the overall deathly silence inside would deter me from coming back. It's sad but I would rather drive a few extra miles and visit a Staples store instead of this place. read more

This place is a joke. I went in to purchase a chair. TO get said chair with free shipping, I had to order the chair IN the store from the website to get it shipped to my house. I couldn't order it from the site to get free shipping? Then, on top of this, while the idiot employee took 30 minutes (Literally) to get someone to customer service, I looked over to the checkout, and some girl was there waiting. There were 3 employess all talking behind the service desk, totally ignoring us. Finally, after 45 minutes, I end up looking at Amazon and finding the EXACT SAME CHAIR for HALF the price. By far, the most unprofessional office max I've been too. And I'm not really a picky guy. I bought a printer out of the box 2 days ago. The sales rep who sold me on it, said it was brand new and the only thing wrong was that the box was beat up. I asked if the printer came with ink, he said yes, it's never even been used. So I get home, install the printer, turns out it doesn't have ink. So I went and returned the thing, and the second I had got out the car I was carrying the printer in, some bald headed bozo was outside cleaning the windows of the door, and I'm lugging this 20 pound printer and walk into the establishment, as I go inside the clown says you're welcome, lol I didn't even see the clown open the door, had I seen him of course I would've said thank you.. anyway, I go stand in the customer service line, and another clown come sup to me looking bewildered as to why I am returning a printer with no box, I said I'm here to return, he asked why and I told him I was told that the printer had ink, but it didn't, he explained that with these printer you must buy the ink, I told him that's not what was explained to me and had that been explained to me I wouldn't have even bought the piece of junk and I would've just bought a new printer. The guy was trying to make me feel stupid, but the reality of the situation is that he's working there for a reason.. and IF it was explained to me when I had bought the printer I would've at the very least picked up some ink the day I bought it. Instead they lied and just tried to push the sale... of course I'm going to return it... they did end up taking the return, they didn't have a choice. But I will never ever step foot in this place again. They're lucky if they have more than 3 customers there at once, you can probably count how many sales they make with your two hands. The place is on its last legs and you see why... 2 years max before the doors closed mark my words. Smh read more

The guy who covered for tech support tonight at this location should not be working with the public whatsoever. He is extremely rude. I called in this evening because I have a subscription to their tech support. I guess the tech support are not there this evening so this guy answers my call. I explained my situation to him but he sounded so annoyed by my calling in I decided to say "okay thank you" and ended the call. I asked my husband to call for me (maybe he could get better customer service) and the guy again was really rude and seemed to be annoyed. My husband asked to speak to someone else and the guy totally refused to transfer the call to anyone else. Then I called back to a different dept to try and get his name and the lady puts him back on the phone with me and he lies to me saying they don't give out names (yet they wear name tags) and that it's against company policy to give his name and then he hung up on me. We will be up there ASAP to find out who he is and making sure our complaint gets to the right people. He obviously does not like his job and is in desperate need of Jesus. Ended up messing my computer up further than I could ever imagine!! After 12 hours of me trying to restore original OS, 10 hours of my husband doing the same, we took the computer to this Office Max to see if they could do anything with it. First visit on this Saturday, entailed buying Windows 8 thinking it out override the system. It did not, and the purchase price was refunded. We took the computer back two times that day with different ideas on how to try and get it fixed and nothing worked. On the next morning, Sunday...we took it in and, again, Marco fidgeted with the system and FINALLY we had the correct CD and bam my computer was fixed. The diligence this man showed in solving my computer error went above and beyond what customer service entails! read more

Good well stocked store with some great sale prices. We are replacing computer furniture and were very pleased with some inexpensive items we picked up here. The main quibble I had the last time we shopped here was that the cashier was not very capable. However, he seemed to be slightly developmentally disabled so if this place at least gave him a break than they derserve credit. read more

This is my closest OfficeMax store so naturally I go here first. In general and most of the time I can readily find a staff person to help me. Today I had to buy a toner cartridge for our printer. OK got that but then had to use the ladies room before checking out...only to find the dirtiest bathroom I've ever been in. Every toilet was disgustingly dirty and every stall was dirty...the worst being the handicapped one. And it smelled. When I checked out, I asked if they had a service that cleaned the rest rooms. The clerk told me that they used to but don't any longer. Turns out that the clerks have to clean them but it doesn't happen but once a month. Are you kidding me? What the hell is wrong with these people? A public restroom should be cleaned once a week and not by the clerks...by people trained to do it. This place has saved me!!!!! About a month ago I had an important meeting with a client. I had the meeting around 2pm and I thought i will prepare all of my papers that I need that morning and so I did. When I woked up in the morning and prepared everything to be printed my printer decided to shot down on me!!! It was such a stressfull day as I had to print important documents to show my client. I went over quickly to my gf house and tried to print there but she was out of color ink!! What a day I thought so then while driving back to my house I thought that maybe office max can print my documents for me and they can! I went there as quick as possible and had the documents printed with in few minutes. I got to say they saved my life. Although the price was bit price I didnt mind paying for it as I was in a rush and they were the ones who helped me. Few othere things about this place is that the employees are very friendly and always willing to help you out. I tried to use the FedEx drop off during my lunch break, the staff had no idea how to ship a package. I've used this service before but today they told me it was not possible. They ignored me for more than 5 minutes to be told they couldn't ship FedEx, at the FedEx counter. Stupid. read more

Usually the salespeople here circle you like buzzards. For some reason, though, tonight, despite having maybe four customers in the store (four customers on the Friday evening before Christmas?) everyone else seemed to be busy either restocking or wandering around seeing what needs to be restocked. Meanwhile, I was ready to buy a monitor and could find NO ONE to tell me if they had one in stock. I was tempted to stand in the middle of the main aisle and wave a wad of twenties in the air. I recently purchased labels that were on sale for buy two get one free. I purchased two and the third one was to be free. I was charged for three and informed the cashier of the sale. He had someone go back and check then adjusted the price. I was told that one of the items was a return so he told someone to grab a different one. I took the last one off the shelf so I didn't think that there was another one. The store employee came back with "another" one. I assumed that maybe I overlooked it because I wanted to buy two of those as well. When I got home I realized that since that was the last one, the employee just gave me the return item that I had to begin with!.! There were about half of the label sheets missing in the box. What angered me is that he could have simply said something like 'sorry but this is the last one would you like a different type?" .....Or simply "do you still want it?" This employee knew exactly what he was doing. Why was this still on the shelf to be sold? I am highly offended that your company would "get over and cheat" their customers. Now I have to return it to a different location(they'll probably think I used half the labels and want to return them) since the place I bought it from is very far from my home. I will order my labels and future equipment from Amazon or purchase from a different company. You should not take your customers for granted. Too bad this was not one of the stores that closed. Maybe it should have been. I will NOT be returning to this particular store for anything. I just started a business and was looking to purchase printer, office equipment, etc, from this store but not anymore! If you want to save a customer then prove it. Found a desk chair on their website. It was going off sale the next day and I wanted to stop by and get it, but called to make sure it was in stock. The person who answered the phone told me it actually wasn't on sale. I politely explained that of course it was and check your website, silly. The guy kind of chuckles and says oh, I guess you're right and tells me they have it. Great. Be there in 20. +1 star! We go, we try out chairs, my husband takes forever to decide, I start getting bored and spinning around and around in desk chairs. No one yells at me for it. +another star! They had our chair waiting at the service desk and offered to help us to the car with it. +another star! Some waste of human space comes in with a printer and interrupts our transaction by being a creepy cat lady and telling the girl that she just talked to somebody about getting her computer fixed and wants to see him. Girl politely tells her to wait her turn. +another star because I hate rude, self important, interrupty people! Crazy woman accosts manager just arriving at desk and accuses him of being the one who's supposed to fix her computer. He graciously points out that she's got a printer, to which she scoffs at and tells him "whatever! it's broken, see? you said you could fix it!" He informs her that they fix software, not her hardware issue and she freaks out. I had to stay at this point because it was just good, free entertainment. He never lost his cool, even though I wanted to throw her in their trash compactor. 5 stars! And bless his heart. read more
