Fantastic shop for locals and tourists alike; it's just far enough off the beaten path that I think lots of tourists need to be in the know to find it. I've driven by the shop several times and wondered what it was--I saw the solidarity fist; bar? Union headquarters? I found out what it was when I ended up here to buy souvenirs when flying home to visit family. They have TONS of stuff, lots of t-shirts and sweatshirts, but also hats, glasses, mugs... even pacifiers with the Chicago flag on them (you know I bought one for the toddler). They have some standard Chicago flag stuff but they also put their spin on it with some flags made with animal paws, or maybe my favorite was the one with apples on it. I think that's what lured me in, actually; my best friend is a teacher and I wanted to get one to take to her. The guy that works there told me the story, that the teacher's union was going to strike and this was a design they had come up with and Rep CHI started printing them. I looooooove the way the Chicago flag is used as the basis of so many designs and this is one of my favorites. Prices are super reasonable and you'll find lots of great stuff here. If you have visitors, I'd definitely bring them here first to look for souvenirs. The parking is fairly easy, all street in this area of Jeff/Portage Park. I loved discovering this shop over the weekend. They have a fully comprehensive wealth of Chicago-themed items for sale. What sets them apart is that their pricing is so affordable. I will be back for Christmas gifts (even when I shop for me, to me, haha) because they have the best selections. This time, I only purchased two buttons. They are only $1. I never see buttons that affordable. I am pretty sure it was the owner behind the counter, and she was super fun and nice. If she was not the owner, she was a very devoted employee. This is probably the best Chicago-themed knickknack store I've visited so far in the city. I sent hubby over there a few months ago since I was unable to make it. Though I want to be as descriptive as possible so that you all know what this store is about, there are only two (2) words from me: how cool! Most items you see in the store are made by local artists or recycled materials. If you're one of the proud Chicagoans who live in Portage Park, Jefferson Park, Belmont Cragin, and Hermosa, you will find apparel and accessories that you can shout out to the world "hey, this is where I'm from. I'm a north-side represent, baby!" Obviously this store makes customized t-shirts. The guy in the house was working on it while hubby and I were browsing the entire store. It's been on my places to check out for months as a former resident of Portage Park. I honestly didn't expect much, hence why I have put it off for so long. I was expecting over-priced, gimmicky Chicago accents for sale. Instead I found a trove of really neat oddities and treats. The kind of stuff made here at home and not in some shack off the Yangtze River, finally being sold at astronomical prices inside tourist traps downtown. At check out, I was offered a free button and some fridge magnets and a little card with the Chicago flag and it's meaning. A very welcomed new addition to the neighborhood (Portage Park/ Jefferson Park / Six Corners), which is all abuzz over their donation of custom-printed T-shirts in support of the Portage Theater preservation effort. It's remarkable that the owners just opened a new shop up here a month or so ago, and have already plugged-into a bunch of neighborhood projects to bring more arts & artists to the area. Nice. I checked out the shop last weekend and met the super-nice owners. I was wowed at the layout, expecting it to be more of a storefront workshop/ It's an orderly and creative retail shop filled with art, hand-made crafts, a few books, tees, sweatshirts and clothing. The shop has a pleasant, lightly industrial studio aesthetic that says "things are made here," where the Things=Art. Very inviting. I already had a couple of their t-shirts: really well done, high quality materials. One shirt is as soft as silk. I bought a very cute hand-made birdie pin for my daughter. Saw some totally adorable "Made in Chicago" baby tees/onesies. Can't wait til they stock up on kids' sizes! I'll be heading back there to pick up some tees for spring/summer for sure. Replica's fantastic yelp reviews caught my attention, but then the e-mail responses from Jeremy clinched it. this company is conscientious, detail-oriented, and friendly as all get-out. I must have sent Jeremy a thousand e-mails from beginning to end of the process, and he was always prompt, informative, completely helpful, and so nice. i always got the impression that they were glad to help me and would do anything they could to ensure my satisfaction. i did my own artwork for the shirts and Jeremy helped walk me through each step of the process to make sure everything turned out just like I wanted. they sent mock-up images of the final tee which looked so great that I got really excited! then my shirts were done a full week before the deadline, and Jeremy let me know how great they looked and that I could come by whenever I was ready to pick them up. I got them today and was doing a happy dance when I saw them! Lyn was very helpful and enthusiastic and listened to me gush about how much everyone was going to love the shirts! she even carried the box of shirts out to the car because I was too wussy to be able to lift them, and even braved some scary traffic to get the box in the backseat. I so appreciate everyone in this company, from start to finish, and I can't wait to see people's reactions to these shirts! As soon as I left this place I wanted to Yelp it so that the universe would know that it's an awesome store, but lo and behold it already has five stars. So, I didn't need to write a review for you to know it was awesome, but I will anyways. Places in Chicago in the "gift shop with a local theme" category usually don't capture my attention for more than a few minutes, but this store had so much amazing stuff, lots of handmade local and fair trade goods, and also a lot of very functional items I wanted to buy for myself --which can be rare for even the most gift-centric stores.
