We wandered in here as the interior looked super cute. This local shop is a gem for finding one-of-a-kind gifts, featuring a diverse range of candles, jewelry, personal items, Chicago-themed goods, and kitchenware, all neatly organized for easy browsing. Much of their inventory is locally crafted, guaranteeing uniqueness and the ability to support local businesses! They even had a wooden crafted outline of the Chicago skyline to hang up on the wall - really unique and super cute! I think it's a spot to remember if you're looking for a locally sourced item. Prices were on the more expensive side in my opinion but you would be supporting a local business if you were to purchase. I stopped by Neighborly yesterday to pick up a few gifts for my friends and family for the holidays. The store is well curated with a great selection of items. I was looking for a few Chicago-themed goods and picked out a cute shirt, tote bag, and a print. They also sell a few products by Katherine Anne Confections, my favorite chocolate shop in Chicago. The girl at the store was super sweet and helpful. I wish I lived closer to West Town so that I can stop by Neighborly more often! read more

I made some changes and upgrades around our house, and I wanted to add some character and style to the space. A colleague of mine also recommended this location, suggesting that it is an excellent site to visit. If I needed some items, and I decided to visit there on Monday, I discovered that it is a place where I could easily find what I was looking for. Plus the store is quite well-designed, and there are plenty of appealing items to choose from. You will be tempted to buy everything you see because the placements of the objects in this location are such a tease and I ended up buying more than I needed, such as a floor mat, a cute lampshade, and mugs; the cup that I bought acquired has an extremely attractive design. You can also stop by this location if you are looking for gifts and luckily, all items are reasonably priced. read more

It's a good store, it really is. They sell a lot of cool, quirky kinds of gifts such as coasters, tea towels, wall art, baby onesies, candles, books, and greeting cards. Most (all?) of this stuff is locally sourced and some of it locally themed (e.g. Chicago neighborhood posters and cutting boards in the shape of Illinois). Last year I was looking for picture frames made from reclaimed wood. Neighborly carried the same line that I had seen elsewhere, but I wanted some other color options in a different size. The clerk was very gracious about searching their database and then the storeroom for some, but unfortunately they didn't have the right combination. However, I really appreciated the good customer service. She even suggested a couple other stores in the area to try. Fast forward to this year and there are no frames for sale at all in the store. There are several things IN frames but no frames alone. This seems like a step backwards to me. I have one particular problem with Neighborly though, which is that I keep seeing the same stuff there. For a few years now, I've included Neighborly on my gift-buying excursions, but I usually walk out without making a purchase because they didn't have quite the right thing. So this is a really crummy complaint, because I am basically saying, "Hey I love your stuff, but I can't find exactly what I want. Can you stock similar stuff, but different? Keep it fresh but consistent to the other stuff?" So...I admit that I am hard to please, but a shop like this is a definite asset to the neighborhood. Consider them for almost any gift-giving occasion, but you probably don't need to stop in every week looking for some cool new offering. read more

I was looking for things that I could buy and give to my friends and I found this store. This is actually a small store just around the neighborhood. I always see this store whenever I passed by in here but I never had the chance to go inside. The store was perfect definition of clean and organized. The store was clean and bright and everything was organized and separated according to their purpose. I went to the right store because they have interesting items like home decors, some cosmetics, accessories and the likes. There are also locally made products like mugs and such that are Chicago-themed. The items in the store are really perfect for gifts that is why I am so happy. Prices are fair and reasonable too which is a good thing because I bought more than I expected. The staff inside was friendly and helpful too. I recommend this store. If you need a store to start your (local) shopping for the holidays, this place should be on the top of your list. My bf and I were lucky enough to hit up Neighborly on opening night and it's an awesome new addition to the Lincoln Square area. They have a little bit of everything home-goods related (art, cards, kitchen gadgets, books, furniture), and it's mostly locally sourced from the Midwest. Gotta love that. We spent quite a bit of time perusing the shop, and left with an array of gifts for family and friends - cooking spices, t-shirts, books - and quite frankly had a hard time choosing because there was so much great stuff to begin with! In the interest of full disclosure, the shop manager is a close friend of mine, but the store speaks for itself. So go. Start shopping. Support local vendors. Neighborly is where it's at. read more

For a store called Neighborly, you'd think customer service would be a focus. You'd think one would be greeted upon entering the store. Or spoken to and acknowledged while shopping. Stumbled across this place while walking back from shopping at Hazel for Christmas gifts. From afar the place doesn't look like much from the outside, but once inside it's really nice. At first I didn't think they had much, but I spent some time walking around and fell in love with half the store. I was totally digging the state shaped tables, interesting posters, and fun t-shirts. They even had the CUTEST little onesies (sp?) for babies, including one with a German flag. I wish knew someone with a wee baby at home. I ended up buying a few more Christmas gifts there and may go back after the holidays to pick up some things for my apartment. Definitely worth checking out. read more

Finally walked over to Montrose & Damen to check out this little gem and it is nothing short of awesome. I admit it; I'm a pretty picky person. And... I don't think there was a single item in the entire store that I didn't love. Seriously. Bright and clean store with impeccable layouts and excellent products sourced from local artists, mainly from the Midwest. Really unique finds for your home - and excellent gift ideas! For the home, choose from beautiful decorative pillows, prints, furniture and ceramics. For gifts, there are great travel items (they carry Baggu bags!), kitchen linens and gadgets, local t-shirts, adorable cards, and so much more! Yes, the items are a bit pricey, but still reasonable for the style and quality of the product. Everything is really high quality and you are supporting locally-made goods, as opposed to mass-produced assembly line products overseas. I will say, we were pretty much ignored by the girl working there even though we were the only ones in the store the entire time we were there on a Sunday afternoon. Hoping service is a bit better when we're back - only reason I didn't give it 5 stars. read more

This is a really great little store, perfect place to get gifts for any occasion. Small but excellent selection of cards (seriously, it's impossible to find a decent card at a CVS, don't even try). Really fun and semi-random collection of housewares, art, and accessories. Many have a Midwestern or Chicago specific thing, and I think most/all are made locally. Looked like they had a few sauces and other non-perishable food products, I assume from local vendors. I didn't have a lot of time, but I picked up a card and something I REALLY need and would never have expected to find here - a luggage scale! I don't own a bathroom scale and really need to weigh my luggage for an upcoming move. And for only $8 which I thought was a good deal. I will be moving away from Chicago later this year and I know that before I go, I will stop in here for posters, coasters, t shirts, anything I can get my hands on with a classy Chicago design (and I think they had Michigan stuff too, my home state!) so that I have lovely items to remember my Midwest life. read more

I was walking past this place after a nice breakfast at Julius Meinl and I popped in to browse. The place is very cute (great simple decor) and there's some fun stuff to look at but there isn't a whole lot of things period nor were there a lot of things that made me go... OOH! I want that! I did however walk out with a striped Baggu canvas bag that is so simple, very cheap ($24), and extremely convenient to use! I also saw those tables shaped like states and Ork posters and lots of geography related tees (things I saw plenty of at the Renegade Art Fair). So, you know where to get those if you missed your chance before. read more

Cute store with a bunch of locally sourced goods for sale, but they were a bit pricey compared to online shops like Etsy and some others. But their wares seem to be of pretty good quality and you get to view it up close before you buy. We bought a couple of items, and if we lived in the area, would definitely check back often to check out the revolving merchandise. read more

I've worked various retail and souvenir-type positions around Chicago, and this store has the best selection of items period. You know how sometimes you go to a business like Epic Burger or something like that, and you have a burger and you're like, "hmmm that was just alright"... but you know they wouldn't call it "Just Alright Burger." Neighborly lives up to it's name. Audrey was super helpful and grabbed some wineglasses for us from the back and graciously gift wrapped them for us. The shop is filled with interesting yet useful objects, many of them Chicago-themed.
