Another keychain addition to my travel backpack. :) "Chicago" keychain representing the different colored train lines in the city.

I found that souvenir shops in Chicago are harder to come by than expected so I'm pretty glad that there's this place. Chicago souvenirs galore. The souvenirs here are by the actual brand of the same store name and have a trendy vibe to them (no generic souvenirs that look like they were designed during the 80s). Shirts, hats, mugs, magnets, pins, keychains, and more! Definitely make a visit if you're looking for Chicago souvenirs to gift yourself and/or to others!

I've been to this store many years ago but never really "discovered" it until the last year or so, when an dance organization I was a part of flew dancers from all around the world to Chicago, they fell in love with the city, and I racked my brains for a place to take them where they could get more substantial souvenirs than "I Heart Chicago" mugs. I finally remembered Transit Tees existed and it became one of my favorite places to take guests... and one of my favorite stores in general. As a proud Chicagoan (lived at Belmont/Western my whole life, and Skokie does not count!) my love for the city has grown in recent years due to my constant "homecomings" from the army as well as my master's degree which has led me to study various aspects of Chicago's infrastructure through housing and GIS, such as crime and the CTA, to name a couple. As a result, Transit Tees became much, much more relevant in my life as a TRUE Chicago souvenir stores. I've gotten into collecting enamel pins lately and Transit Tees has an amazing selection of unique enamel pins, most of which can be purchased as stickers too. I myself bought a CTA token pin and a Chicago flag token on clearance for only $5 each, and I spent a little bit more on a cool non-clearanced "L" map pin. They have a lot of other pins too that may look stupid to a non-Chicagoan, but makes someone like me chuckle in ironic nostalgia, such as the ubiquitous newspaper machine arrangement, a box of tamales, and the dreaded orange parking ticket. They also have every single CTA stop represented in a magnet, sticker, or pin, which is really cool. They have a wide variety of other items too such as clothing, cups, decorations, postcards, etc. I myself have really only indulged in the pins/stickers but I'm hoping to shop around more next time I go to see if there's something else I like. My all-time favorite purchase from them right now, however, is the absolutely AMAZING EL: The Chicago Transit Adventure board game. I saw it advertised on Instagram and instantly knew I had to get it, and I'm so glad I did. It's been a hit at all the parties I've brought it to, and it's super addicting. There's a lot of explanation to get out of the way, but I find players get the hang of it even if they aren't super familiar with the CTA and how it works. Looking at you, Kayla, my Morton Grovian girlfriend! Anyway, the board game is absolutely wonderful and it's clear a lot of passion and thought was put into it by true Chicagoans. If you're a Chicago fan, a board game fan, or better yet, both, this game is a must buy for you! The service here at Transit Tees is always pleasant as well. The store is nicely arranged, and has the right amount of "clutter" to give it a bit of character and make it clear that they have a lot of awesome items to offer. They're also super engaging on social media, particularly Instagram; they're always reposting the game nights I tag them in which is fun to see! Love, love, love this store, and recommend it for tourists and for anyone that's fallen in love with Chicago like I have! Y'all deserve better than an "I Heart Chicago" mug!

I purchased a Groupon for "Transit Tees" months ago. Since it was approaching the expiration date, hubby and I made a trip to Wicker Park, where TT is located at. Honestly, I can go bananas over these Chicago-themed kinck-knacks and spend a week-worth of my paycheck here. The Groupon ($40 off) kept me in check. They have a large selection of t-shirts that are locally-made. Toward the back of the store, there are two (2) racks of "clearance tees" for both men and women ($14 for one, or $24 for two). I saw some ingeniously-designed magnets with the "L" stops, pencils with the "L" colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, brown, pink, purple), and baby bibs and onesies. They are art pieces portraying the Chicago landscape and panoramic views. I have generated a list of "to-buy" items, with one of them being the Chicago periodic table. There are probably an insane amount of merchandize I would love to purchase, it's too bad that adults have responsibilities. Bills need to be paid first! There's also a Yelp check-in offer ($10 off $40), which is equivalent to 25% off on a purchase over $40. This should come in handy if you're picking up some souvenirs or home decors for your residence.

Fun Chicago-themed shop for tshirts, cards and gifts. Something fun for anyone who loves living here or needs a gift to take home! Check it out if you're in Andersonville.

We were shocked, confused, and honestly embarrassed, in public for something we didn't do. They didn't ask politely or explain anything. They just assumed. No proof. No apology. nothing We cooperated and showed them we had nothing, and instead of admitting their mistake, they gave us attitude and let us go like we were guilty. This kind of treatment is completely unacceptable, especially when you treat young customers like criminals just because we're teens or don't "look" like your usual shoppers. We came to shop, not to be profiled or harassed. I will not be returning, and I wouldn't recommend this store to anyone who values basic respect.

She is on the phone. "Hi, may I take a quick picture?"…read moreI asked politely. The lady responded, "no photo, goodbye." While this short poem pretty much sums up my 30-second visit at Oriental Boutique, it is also an acrostic that describes the lady's attitude and the service. I was looking for a traditional Chinese dress (i.e. Qi Pao) for my girlfriend, whom I am going to marry. However, most of the designs cater to kids or tourists (that might explain why most positive reviews were written by non-Asian customers... just saying!) and very few of them are for adults. As someone who grew up in an ethnically Chinese background, I had seen and worn more culturally authentic and better designed traditional gowns and dresses. Many designs displayed in the store seem "oriental" in a western sense or as in what westerners think "oriental" should look like, but this is just my subjective observation and honest opinion. The lady was on the phone all the time, and when I asked her question, she literally answered, "no photo, goodbye." Okay. BYE. NEVER AGAIN! Wish I could have given a zero or a negative number.
