One evening when we were given an estimated wait time of 30 minutes by Spacca Napoli for a patio table, we found that an excellent chance to visit Hazel, a mere 5-minute walk from the pizzeria. As soon as we walked inside Hazel, a friendly man behind the counter promptly greeted us.  I was impressed by the huge and well-curated collection of goods for all ages and styles.  Daughter was so excited to show me around as if it's her own store, lol.  On one wall was a huge display of greeting cards.  There were also jewelry, accessories, baby gifts, housewares, and gifts for men.  Prices were quite reasonable.  If you need a gift, there's really no excuse of not finding one to buy. We were there for 10 minutes having a great time browsing around, then my phone rang and I was told that our table was ready, so we hurried out without buying anything.  The friendly man behind the counter still politely said "thank you" to us! As now I read that they close at 7:00 pm during weekdays, I am even more impressed, because we actually stepped in the store 10 minutes before they closed, and they still welcomed us!  We will definitely be back!

Today I paid Eskell a visit and found more of their gorgeous clothing, as well as clothing from a few other designers and a few racks of cool vintage clothing. Everything is reasonably priced and even more so when it's all marked down like it was today. And Kelly (one of the designers/owners) was a doll! Living in Wicker Park, I intentionally spend more money at neighborhood businesses because I want to support the community behind them. That's why I purchased a ring here for $34. Later, I found what appears to be the identical ring on Temu for $3.20. The price difference isn't what bothered me. Local businesses need to make money. What bothered me was believing I was supporting a unique local boutique, only to discover what appears to be a mass-produced item readily available online. Maybe some items here are made by local artists. I hope they are. Too bad the owner wasn't there when I stopped in, because this is feedback I would have preferred to give directly. Whether the response to this review is that the ring isn't from Temu, that retail markups are normal, or that other products in the store are locally made, the underlying concern remains the same: customers who choose to shop local deserve transparency about what they're actually supporting.
