Very disappointing and poor service. I dropped off a shirt for a small amount of embroidery and was told it would be done in 1 week. I went to pick up the shirt over a week later and the store was closed without notice. I was told the shirt would be dropped off but never received a response to my message with my address. I went to pick up the shirt 2 days later to find out that the embroidery wasn't even started. The embroidery looked nothing like the example I provided In terms of font, color and size. I brought a baby sweater there to get our brands logo embroidered as a gift. Martha was AMAZING and so beyond kind. She finished the project so much faster than anticipated because I told her the due date was quickly approaching. When I was shocked at the speed, she said "I wanted to make sure it was ready before the baby got here". I'm not one to post bad reviews for small businesses but this was absolutely the worst Customer service experience I've had. The business was recommended to us but had I known how rude and unprofessional Martha Villa would be I would have never and I do mean NEVER attempted to do business. Prior to dropping off my item, I called and asked how long it would take for embroidery work and was told a week, after 9 days and no response I called and was told twice that she would send me a digitized copy of my work and have yet to receive it. Then told my item would be ready today only to drive over 45 minutes and Martha tell me it's not ready and when asked when would it be she shrugs her shoulders. I then proceeded to ask why they didn't call me to tell me it's not going to be ready she shrugs her shoulders and says very Nonchalantly "what you want me to do?" If I call you then I would have to call these other 12 orders as well. (Pointing to other customer orders on the floor) Needless to say I will not be returning but I will make sure others are aware of the lack of professionalism and courtesy of Bucktown Embroidery! read more

Bucktown Embroidery was wonderful. It was a little slow going but they got the job done beautifully and on time. They gave me a very reasonable price quote and turn around time. Took 2 hoodies in to get a simple, text-only logo embroidered. They said it would be ready Friday - I showed up the following Tuesday and they hadn't been touched. They told me to come back the following morning, which I did - only to find that they had used a completely different font for the logo. Pretty terrible experience overall. read more

I can't say enough good stuff about this business. I found them on Yelp a couple of years ago and have been going to them ever since for my embroidery needs. Their work is TOP NOTCH. The owners/employees are super friendly. The prices are super reasonable. Speaking of prices, I was there today to pick up a pair of leggings. I asked how much for the job and the woman taking care of me told me $15. I had one $5 bill and nine $1 bills, totaling $14. When I pulled out my credit card because I was $1 short, the woman shooed away my credit card and accepted my $14. I'm so thankful b/c she didn't have to do that. Although it's long, PLEASE read this entire review. Wow, would NEVER recommend this place ever to anyone. Poor excuse of a business. Most unprofessional, worst customer service I have ever received in my entire life. My girlfriend is the the least high maintenance, most patient person and this over did it for her. Dropped something off on Saturday, said it needed to be done on Tuesday, very small order of 2 embroidered lines on a graduation sash which they said it would be done. Went to pick it up on Tuesday, not ready of course. Went to pick it up Wednesday, still not ready when my girlfriend had a flight to catch to bring it out to CA to me that night. They told me that it would be done by noon on Wednesday. Wasn't even ready at 4 PM... Dirty and unorganized. Cat roaming around rubbing against clothing items. Thank god im not allergic. Owner of the store was making transactions with her apartment landlord and her cable provider at the time. Gave them more attention than an actual customer. Was told to wait while she left the store to go to her apartment multiple times with the cable man and her landlord. MULTIPLE TIMES SHE WENT TO HER APARTMENT. Like this wasn't even affiliated with the store!!!! But her apartment. I told her multiple times that I had a flight to catch after it was already late. Literally thought I was on a hidden camera show. NOT TO MENTION: she would have spelled the embroidered words wrong multiple times and my girlfriend had to keep correcting her.. THE WORDS WERE WRITTEN ON THE DAMN ORDER FORM. WOULD GIVE ZERO STARS IF I COULD. The worst experience at a business of my entire life. read more

I had two specialty bowling shirts embroidered here back in August. I called first to discuss what I was looking for and the owner was very helpful. I live just a few blocks away so the location was convenient. When I dropped the shirts off the door was locked (as the other reviewer also discovered), however the owner's husband was behind the counter and buzzed me in. I'm assuming they keep the door locked for security reasons and to keep out the folks who tend to loiter just down the street near the laundromat. The owner's husband doesn't speak much English but he was very nice as we worked through the slight language barrier. I was even more impressed when the owner called me once she returned to the shop to suggest using a different font because the script font I had chosen has an usual flow with particular letters. Now that's good customer service. I have had some difficulty with emailing them graphics for other orders, but if you're in the area and can stop by or speak with them via phone, I'd still recommend them. Really helpful with design changes (colors, outlines, etc) and GREAT pricing. I bring shirts there for logos, and buy their hats and have them put the logos on. Avoid this place at all costs if you're in a time crunch or if you want to get your items back. My husband took 6 handkerchiefs to be embroidered for our groomsmen for our wedding. All we needed were initials on the corners of the handkerchiefs, nothing crazy. The guy at this establishment seemed unsure if he was able to get the job done in 6 days and we told him we NEEDED these items embroidered on time because we were flying out for our destination wedding. The guy never called to inform if our items were done and we called twice with no answer. We never actually got our handkerchiefs. So I hope they're enjoying them since we never got them back. read more

I rarely write bad reviews but in this case it's well deserved! I take a bag for embroidery on Friday, the owner said it will be ready Wednesday. I said great, when should I pick it up. She said any time afternoon it should be ready. I called Tuesday to check on the status and the owner said yep it will be ready tomorrow to pick up anytime after we open and she mentioned she was going to work on it after my call. I went to the store Wednesday at 3pm only to find it's not ready yet. When I asked how come it's not ready when she told me twice it will be ready Wednesday to pick up at anytime, she initially said the machines and then when I confronted her she said qell someone ordered 500 hats and we decided to do them 1st. I said that's not professional especially that you didn't call and let me know so I don't take the time and trip. She said well Wednesday means till 5pm and it's not 5pm yet. I said you told me twice it will be ready to pick up when you open the store Wednesday and it's 3 pm already, can you at least show some professionalism instead of excuses and apologies. She said no it is what it is. I took my bag and left. Very rude, dishonest and unprofessional. read more

I tried dropping a shirt off in the middle of the day to this joint and the door was locked w/ an attack dog jumping at the door when it saw me. Completely freaked me out!! I had a wonderful experience at Bucktown Embroidery. I ordered 14 hats just 4 business days in advance. First of all, they were the only place in Chicago that could even accommodate me in that time frame - and for a super reasonable price! All of my exchanges with Martha were very pleasant, she was very nice and easy to work with and totally knows what she's doing. The non-profit teen group I work for LOVED the hats, they totally got a kick out of them! I will be coming back to them for any and all my custom needs in the future. The prices were good, and the quality of the work ok the first time I'd been here, but the service is spotty. The first time we barely got our order done in time, so I gave a larger window for the second order. We kept getting blown off, told all kinds of stories about who was out of town and when our order would be complete. We missed our promised deadline, and then our event. Not very happy and they didn't seem upset at all. At least they eventually managed to give back the clothing we brought in (no sure thing) No apology for leaving us high and dry right before an event. There are better options. read more

This place does an amazing job. Yes, the storefront is low-frills (and the locked door keeps out the trouble in a sometimes iffy neighborhood), but the prices are great and the quality is also great. They have done t-shirts for many school programs that I've coordinated AND embroidered logos on school uniform shirts at a FRACTION of what "official" Lands End embroidery costs. Marta worked tirelessly to match the sample I gave her and worked at duplicating it until I was satisfied. I have probably, all told, had them handle 60 shirts. No complaints! I have never taken the time to write a review and for Bucktown Embroidery I am. I used them last year and had a phenomenal experience. I will admit that their store is very basic and even though I had zero complaints when I needed shirts for this year's event I asked my printer and they pointed me to a different place (also listed on yelp). So thinking there was a place that had a nicer location I attempted to get my shirts there. This year we were looking for something different and out of the box and I wanted to get a single shirt done to see what it would look like. First off the other store seemed put off by the fact I brought in a shirt I got from Costco for the test; so they wanted to charge an additional $4. Additionally they needed to charge me a setup fee for the single run of $120 not counting the $28 to embroider it. I finally pulled my head out ov my "you know what" and went back to Bucktown Embroidery and received the same No-nonsense, get it done approach I got the year before. Martha is truly a joy to work with and we will never stray again. read more

Initially we had brought the fabric of my mom's wedding dress to embroider and we were told they can't (fabric too thin) and to come get it. But when we came in they had found a way to do it!! OK this might be a little premature as I won't actually see the finished product until tomorrow. However my interaction thus far has been nothing short of perfect. Yes the door was locked when I got there, Marta (the wonderful lady who works there) saw me and buzzed me in immediately. If she hadn't seen me I'm confident that she would have answered the phone (number is posted right on the door) and done the same. I needed a number of items embroidered with a company logo and wasn't sure how to do it. Marta was patient with me and explained my different options. She then let me tweak the look of the font at least a half dozen times and even did several sample stitches right there once we had it narrowed down just to make sure i knew exactly what I was getting. As long as what I saw appears on the clothes, which I have every reason to believe it will, I'll be very satisfied! Top notch service, great price, expedient- What else could you want! read more

I KNOW THIS IS LONG BUT READ PLEASE. I really hate to say it but wow this place is not good. I ordered 3 hats with very simple design on from and back. Got the fastest shipping available. The 2 day shipping turned into a couple weeks. And I get a call on the day they are suppose to be delivered asking about the color of my design. I'm suppose to have the hats already and I'm just getting a call about a simple follow up question? It's obvious they didn't start my order until I was suppose to have it. The only good part is they sent it out right after the call and it got there two days later. But when the hats got here... They were completely wrong! Not even the right style of hat. The design was messed up. And there was no design on the back! I couldn't believe it. Took twice as long as it should have and it was completely backwards. It was a simple order for three hats! And they couldn't even get the correct hat let alone the design. So I call and get no answer. So I email them stating what happened. Not only was the email riddled with spelling errors, they simply said. "Hi I'm sorry your order fell threw the cracks. Do you want us to redo your Order or give you your money back?" And I emailed back being super nice and saying I want to give them a chance and that if you could redo my order correctly and get it to me at a decent time that would be great. And I get an email back saying that her husband has cancer and that she tends to him over any order?????????? Okay that's horrible and I feel bad but HOW THE HELL AM I SUPPOSE TO KNOW THAT? and why are you running a business if you can't fulfill orders because of your sick husband ? She continued to say she was gonna give me my money back and that I should find another embroider.... She doesn't want my business and can't complete a simple three hat order because her business runs on the unfortunate schedule of her husband who has cancer. I don't think these people have the time and focus to run a business. Very unfortunate for her husband and I hope he gets better. But this is not how to run a business! read more

This is the ONLY place you ever want to go for embroidery in Chicago! I have found that while large businesses will maintain some semblance of customer service because they don't want issues escalated to corporate, often times locally owned businesses won't really bother making sure customers are completely satisfied because they don't have any recourse anyway. That was not my experience at Bucktown Embroidery! I dropped off two robes to get embroidered the week before Christmas. I received a phone call from the owner a few days later and was told that they had mistakenly embroidered the front of the robes instead of the back. I went to the shop to look at them and decided that the placement unfortunately wouldn't work. The owner offered to replace them herself and had me come around the counter to find out where to purchase them, and she had her daughter try on a robe to make sure we got the placement right on the new ones. The only place that had the robes for sale was over 10 miles away in the suburbs. The owner insisted on going to pick them up herself, which was at least a 3-hour round trip to the suburbs in rush hour traffic, the Friday before Christmas! I offered to go myself because I knew that everyone in the family-run shop was working round the clock to fill several company-sized orders before Christmas, but she wouldn't hear of it. She then called me the next day, (when they're normally closed on Saturdays), and offered to deliver the robes to my house! I assured her that wasn't necessary, (especially since I was planning on paying with a card anyway), and met her at the embroidery shop. The finished product looked amazing and was exactly what I wanted. The owner then refused to accept payment for the embroidery, and thanked me for being understanding! I honestly didn't know that the level of customer service I experienced even existed in this day and age. Everyone at the shop was absolutely lovely, (I believe there were three generations working there which was also cool and something you don't see every day), and they went above and beyond and then even further past that. When shopping, I even find myself looking around for things I can get embroidered, simply because I want to frequent their business again! If you have embroidery needs, don't even think about it and go to Bucktown Embroidery. You won't be disappointed and thank you again to the lovely women who helped me!
