Christine consistently goes out of her way to provide TERRIBLE customer service. I'd love to be served by her at a hole in the wall neighborhood bar where we could just call her a "character" and appreciate her blatant disregard for adding anything joyful to the establishment -but she works at Michael's. A place where people go to buy overpriced craft supplies with joy and creativity in their hearts, and a few dollars in their pocket. We now go out of our way not to shop at her location because she is such a buzzkill. I feel sorry for her coworkers. read more

Do not go to Valerie in the frame department!! I switched out the glass for acrylic in one frame and was quoted $30 - I came back with a 2nd frame less than a month later, the new price? $100. She estimated $70 then added labor AFTER, without telling me final price would be $100. When I expressed disappointment and said it was too much, she guilt tripped me and said it was already taken apart -ridiculous! read more

Went in there tonight just to grab a few T-shirts on 5/18/24 @8:30 Long story but the bottom line is this older woman who I assume is the manager was INCREDIBLY rude and aggressive. I'm watching all these young sales people looking at her and thinking what a terrible role model she is for them talking to a customer like that. There's plenty of other Michael stores to go to. First the positives in that the folks in framing are positive and were always pleasant. When I was returning finished frames and canceling a custom order due to their ineptness at the actual framing, they asked no questions and gave refunds right away. So the folks are fine. The issue is that I brought in 5 large prints, mounted on a thin styrene board so that they are stiff. The team said it was no problem to mount them. When you mount a print like this, it must be reinforced and not simply "taped to the back of the mat" (as most prints are), because the weight of the print will cause the mat to buckle. The moment I returned to my studio, one of the prints was buckled. I brought it in for a repair, they told me it was because I framed without glass. Print was repaired as I waited. Two days later I had the same issue with a different print (photo attached). Finally I canceled the order on the attached print and went to another frame store in the same mall. The owner of the other store confirmed that they do not reinforce the prints which is what caused the mat to buckle. I'm now going to pay extra and bring the other completed prints in to him to correct what Michaels can't do. read more

I used their custom framing twice now. Both times I worked with the framing department to help me chose the right mat color for background and texture as well as the frame itself and the framing glass. You have a lot of choices but they work with you and your vision. Both times I already had something in mind and they helped me bring it to life. They are very respectful of the art you bring in and literally handle it with white gloves. The framing can be pricey even after a discount and the turn around is approximately two weeks but I think it's well worth it. Both times they did an excellent job. read more

Always enjoy going to a nice and clean place for your hobby and craft needs. It's a retail store with bright lights and lots of variety of items to look at. You kinda get stuck in the place since your mind starts to wander on more project that you want to do. It's the same kind of feeling that I get when I go to home depot although this is for table crafts. The store is usually very clean and a few customer service people float around although hard to find at time. Nice and friendly workers that enjoy their work enough. Many do have experience in the hand craft area and so that can direct you to the items that you want to use for your projects. It's best to ask questions to customer service individual if your lost since you'll get more lost if you start walking around everywhere. Overall, it a great craft store. Check out other craft stores like Hobby Lobby and I believe there is both a Michael's and Hobby Lobby store across the street from each other in Niles, IL on Dempster (west of Harlem). Michaels is the place for all things crafty. Whether you're into jewelry making, scrap booking, knitting or framing, they have it all! And I love their seasonal decorations and accessories, especially at Christmas. Their prices are great and they always have a coupon in their sale paper or on their website. It's been a long time since I saw my niece because they lived in their own house. Yesterday I decided to visit them. But before that I will give her a present. She's now 5 years old and I'm thinking of buying toys. I entered this place and there were so many people inside. I went to the toy section. There are a lot of different toys to choose from. It comes with a box. Some are at a fair price, some are cheaper and some are expensive. I just bought a toy that looks cute. It was a Barbie doll with a house. I'm sure my niece will love this. Aside from that I also buy her candies and chocolate. It comes with plastic. I bought sweet candies because my niece doesn't like sour candy. Overall I bought everything I needed. Micheal's is a solid arts and crafts store. Whether your in need of a gift which is ready made, an art set, wood working set, carving, model set, puzzles and so much more, they have a ton of the stuff. All of which meets every price range. I scored an art set made by the Highlights people, with activity books, crayons, markers, craft scissors and more for only $5 dollars regular price. Wow. They also carry some lawn furniture, patio decor, kids equipment for the beach like sand rakes and pails. When the seasonal stuff comes out it's usually fairly priced. Items to help you with decorating a cake, cookies and other baked goods and so much more. If you have the time and wish to go through the store, you'll find so many products for so many different hobbies you might find interesting and a reason to try. About this location specifically, I wish they had more employees or associates looking to help. You can spend a long period of time walking the aisles looking for an associate close enough to where you are to aid you in finding a price or getting something off a high up shelf. A call button in different areas of the store would be helpful. read more

Came here on Saturday to bring my daughter to the kids workshop that takes place here every Saturday. For 2 to 5 usd your child can build some crafts, paint and take it home. Very interesting... my daughter loves it. read more

Lately I've been on a DIY-a-thon due to all those cool projects I find on pinterest. Michaels IS the place to be for those do-it-yourself projects. Definitely love that they always have a huge amount of items and sales literally every week. They also have coupons all the time (50% off at times) as well as flash sales and other promotions. Service is exceptional. Everyone is friendly and the employees I've met really know their crafts. Today I went in to pick up some Krylon sealer for a DIY project and one sales associate was super helpful and he knew exactly what I should get depending on the type of finish and item I was trying to protect! That's huge points in my book when a sales associate actually knows what they are talking about instead of just pointing me to a product! Kudos to that awesome sales guy! Definitely love this place for all their fun goodies and always a great place to pick up craft supplies. Minus one star because the store is HUGE and sometimes it's hard to find a sales associate to help you find where something is (because they're all busy working). read more

Sure I can! Went in and they now have self checkout. First of all the cashier that was telling people use the self checkout. Well maybe I don't want to use it. Ringing up my own items and bagging, I'm not employed at Michaels. She said put your code in and you will get your 40% off. Well I rang up everything and it did not take 40% off from my regular priced item. I told her and she said I would have to cancel it and do it all over again. I'm like what and I'm like are you kidding me. Needless to say I was like forget it and left with the items. However was was so upset I went back and decided to return everything. That same cashier told me I had to get in line. I'm like I just talked to you and but you have to get in line. Which in turn I asked for her manager and she then called manager and told me to wait for them. I was furious to say the least. I waited, then 4 minutes later she was like I can refund it. I wish I got her name because I would have reported her. This cashier should not be working with customers she had an awful attitude. This happened the end of September I have not been in since and will not be going back. I hope this gets to corporate Micheals and understand that a loyal customer was lost because of this cashier. Uh, hmm, let's just say that I am not one to be called crafty (well not in the arts & crafts sort of way). However, upon visiting this store, there are dormant craft desires that rear their ugly head & grab a hold of me. For instance I seem to want to go all country when I get into this store and craft the heck out of my condo. Good thing I have a little self control--phew! This place can inspire all kinds of crafty ideas and get you into the mood. I have discovered that the best time to go here is an hour before they close, seems like no one else goes at that time. So, you have the entire store to explore on your own (ah bliss). Plus, the staff are super helpful at this time for some reason, could be they want you the heck out. Michaels is chocked full of bits & bobs to do anything from scrap booking, stamping, painting, kids activities, wedding stuff, candles & home decor, to holiday decorations, to making posters, etc. Heck, I even got all the supplies for my Halloween costume here (anyone remember Miss Ipod?). You can pretty much get your chain craftgasm here & be pretty satisfied. Now, I recognize that this is chain, but they have a plethora of options that do not break your bank. So to break it down: *Lots of supplies. *Good prices. *Helpful staff. *Loads of parking. *Convenient hours. read more

I have been painting ceramics for over 10 years so I've been to my fair share of Michaels, but this is the worst one hands down. 1st CS rep: I ask where ceramic glue is as she walks away. She says a number and keeps walking. 2nd CS rep: Walks away as I ask for help. Yells that he'll be back. Comes back. I ask about glue. He knows nothing and his favorite answer is "I don't know." Has no clue ceramic glues are in numbers (ex. Beacon 527, 401 glue). He points in general direction of glues, stands there and then walks away. Not even a "thank you" or a "sorry." I actually said "thank you" to him just to see if he'd say it back. His response was "Mmm hmm." 3rd CS rep: Screaming nonstop on cell about how she's unappreciated. Won't get off phone. Yells at back aisles while stocking items for at least the 10 minutes I was in the store. I don't know if she was yelling at her kid, her boyfriend/husband, or who. I was just stunned that she was not only on her phone but screaming so loud that I could hear her at least two aisles over. Cashier, 4th CS rep: Ranting on microphone about time for her to go on break. Doesn't say a word to me about my transaction, including my total. Supervisor: Won't come to the front after I'm dead tired of cashier complaining about her break and not saying one word to me. Miraculously a big smile crosses the cashier's face and now she wants to make small talk about it "being just one of those days." Meanwhile the cashier won't come to the front and is instead asking the cashier on the intercom what I won't. I waited a couple of minutes and walked out of the store. I'll NEVER be back. read more

I came in just looking for washii tape and discovered...So this is where all the scrapbook paper went. Everyone knows I love craft paper and I always have to do some browsing when there's paper involved. This shop may be a bit smaller and cramped than other's but they try to make due with the space. And their wall of scrapbook paper is pretty impressive. Impressive for an arts/craft/hobby chain store I should add. So at least I know where to go if I need some instant gratification for craft paper and can't wait for my trips way out of town for the brick/mortar scrapbook shops. Other crafts are well-represented here too, like supplies for kid's art crafts, painting and jewelry making. There's also a lot of party supplies and baking decor, and of course their picture framing section. Always look for their coupons and sales, that's the best way to get more bang for your buck. read more

But I won't deny that they have some great projects and fun stuff. I don't even know where to begin and what projects I've made from formal gifts to small personalized ornaments to DIY cards to getting materials to make a gift card box/cake. I usually avoid these stores. They depress me so much that it takes me to sleep it off before I'm back to my old self. However, I was told by a friend that Michael's framing is pretty good and very very price competitive. But still, the above was too strong to me to verify his statement. When I received a flyer from Discover (my Credit Card) saying that if I use that card at Michael's, I would receive an additional 30% off their prices (which includes any sales such as 50% off framing), I took my large Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater print to them. This was originally framed by me 7 years ago, and at that time, in light of saving money, I used a IKEA metal frame and sort of adjusted a matte. That final product was passable, but when the frame finally started to show its age (It doesn't hold well while moving apartments), I asked Michael's to give me a quote. Raquel took care of everything; she knew her stuff, was friendly, and seem capable. She helped me choose a great frame, one that had a dark leather feel to it, which went really well with the architectural print. I loved the fact that they can take a photo of the print you want framed, input it in the computer, and give you a approximate rendering of how it will look as a final product. The only kink in this whole process was communication. Apparently, the frame I ordered came in damaged, and they had another one shipped out. But they were still able to get it done within a few days of when they promised, so I don't feel too slighted by this. Why the one less star, well, the store is still depressing. And probably because the whole concept for me, of going for crafts in crowded aisles isn't my cup of tea. read more

I have a secret confession. I love Michaels. I love browsing every aisle and touching everything in the store. I can literally spend hours in there. I have wasted thousands of dollars there on things that I hope to someday find the time to make. I love pretending that I am Martha Stewart and that I am capable of making tons of home made gifts...truth be told, hardly anyone is worth my precious time...but I can wish, right? This place rocks if you have an imagination! The only reason that I don't give it 5 stars is that some of the staff there are a bit slow. The majority of them are very nice and helpful, but I question the employment of a few of them. P.S. If there is more than 8 people in line...open a new one!!! The big box with a heart!! Not my usual review - I am not a huge crafter - but I need to give a shout out to Michael's in Skokie. I love my city life - but there are times when not owning a car threatens my sanity. I have recently been planning for do-it-yourself wedding decorations (not for the faint of heart) and needed the requisite votive candle holders and other heavy things in bulk. The prices here were very competitive with a store-wide sale, and the saleswoman was extra patient while counting out 100 votive cups and carefully packing them for me. And -this nearly blew my mind - when I wanted to purchase said on-sale items, but could not bring them home on my bike, I was told that they would happily store my huge cart of items in the back until I could get my ever-generous, car-owning friend to come retrieve them. This is the only larger craft store in the area so it is my go to for when I'm in need of this type of product. It's your average store nothing special. Frequently when I'm there they are out of whatever I want or do not have enough of it. Usually I'm able to find an acceptable substitute but I'd rather have my first choice. The store is quite large and things can be harder to find, without many staff walking around if you need help with anything. Once you do find someone though I have always found them to be friendly and helpful. Lines are long but tend to go fairly quick most of the time. I will continue to come here cause it's close and there aren't any others in the area, staff is great too. read more

So I think I just got jacked at this Michaels, but for what I wanted to get done...I'm not sure where else I could have gone. I had a beautiful art piece framed, and I wanted to take advantage of their 60% off coupon. The frame, matting and service ran me up to 240.00 bucks! What the..... That sounds really steep to me, but I justified spending so much on the piece because of the wonderful help I received from the people behind the counter. These "frame masters" knew what they were talking about...plus they were super-friendly and sympathized with the pricing. If you are gonna screw somebody on cost of material, at least sympathize with your customer....it eases the pain just a bit! read more

How can they only have two cashiers working on a Friday afternoon during the Christmas season? The line of people waiting, at least 40 people we lined up to the back of the store. Why wouldn't they get some extra cashiers to help out until the line was shorter? I blame the manager of this store for not stepping up to the plate and adding another register. I will never go back to this store since I know the other locations are not like this. I think the corporation needs to review this problem, and figure out how to resolve it. I understand that sometimes employees call in sick, but from what I heard in line, this is a daily problem there. I thought the customers came first, but not at this store. I am not one to leave bad reviews. But love giving credit when it is due. I went to pick up an online order. Right away the lady was so rude. I asked where my other items where as it was buy online at 50%off and get one free. Right away she became so nasty. Instead of being talked to that way I went to ask another employee for assistance. The lady, who was rude, told me "it does not matter what she says I am the manager" the manager kept being so rude it was disgusting. If I was wrong I was wrong. But she could have handled it better. The other employee was very kind and apologized and told me she understood what I was saying. If it was her assisting me then I would have had no problem purchasing my items and more. Every time I come here, I am overcharged for something. When you're purchasing several items (many of which are on sale) it's really hard to keep track. After speaking with others, I can't help but think this is intentional, as I've had a few people tell me they have the same issue. I went here the other day and a $13 easel (very simple, table top) rang up at $40. When I told the cashier that it was marked at $13, he just sort of went "Oh", rescanned it, and the CORRECT price came up. Seriously? Either this place has an extremely faulty computer system, or they are intentionally ripping people off. If you go here to enjoy their (theoretically) good deals, don't let them rush you through check out, despite the two open lanes and 400 people waiting. read more

I can't stand Michael's. I go here quite often to buy items for work. The selection is generally good, but I've gone there a number of times for something specific, only to find the last item on the shelf broken, dirty, or missing parts. The staff doesn't seem to know much about the products they offer. That's understandable considering the large variety of items they sell..but, many of them can't even direct you to what aisle or section of the store to go to. There's always a slow line at the checkout, no matter what time of day I go. Michael's can be a good deal if you have a coupon and know what you're looking for. But, if you have questions, DO NOT go to Michael's, go to a craft or art specialty store. read more

This is a great arts and crafts store. There's lots to be found inside this cool store. They have all sorts of crafts items, including lots of how-to-to-it-yourself books and kits. They also carry many home decoration items, like flowers, wall paintings, and wreaths. They also have many workshops at this store. I love this store and always find something cool here! read more
