My fiance found out about this place and brought me here. Wow! So much selection! Staff was very helpful in telling us where things were in different areas of the store. There is TONS of fabric here, as well as findings, tools, trim, etc. As a person with mobility issues, I won't lie, it's not the most accessible shopping experience ever as some things are down low or up high. But staff were available and willing to help. Prices were reasonable and it's nice to be able to see material in person rather than online. read more

Everything has changed for the worse at this location. Everything from selection, unhelpful employees, return policies that you better make sure you read the not obvious signs about because they won't do exchanges even if you are going to spend more than the item you already purchased. When you politely point out not knowing about the change in return policy and it not being in clear view - the smug cashier will smirk and then laugh at you to the other employee. Yeah, I might as well go to Hobby Lobby or Michael's, but won't return to the place I've purchased yards and yards in the past for various upholstery projects. * In reply to the business owner, when I walk to the counter to get new item cut but ask for a return and the person cutting has to call someone else- then playing ignorant about the technicality of whether they are called cashiers or not says how serious you are about customer service. As to the selection- I shopped at the old location a lot. I've been to this location at least 6 times and have walked out empty handed numerous times. I purchased there yesterday an item in which when the cutter cut it- it was already creased. I asked if she could please not include that creased edge in the yardage but she insisted that it would be fine. It was a cork fabric which was going to be used on a table top. I got it home and realized that creased edge was not going to smooth out - so I took it back rather than start the gluing process & wreck it making it unreturnable. I had shopped at the old store and returned under 3 yards a handful of times. Not to mention, I couldn't use it because it was creased and your employee insisted on including that in the yardage. I should've left then, but I tried to give your store a chance. When your employees answer was "we no longer do that" in regards to exchanges that pretty much proves you did used to do it. It was an expensive yardage- not $4 but $24. And how nice it would be if when you are requesting a yard or two for the person to say- under 3 yards is not returnable or exchangeable. If you call the tattered white piece of paper behind the cluttered counter I had to hunt to see today- your return policy- you might want to do better. read more

It is a small warehouse building with some designated parking on a side street in Evanston. They have 4 large aisles of fabric rolls, and trims and notions. The staff was helpful. I asked for help a few times from a few different people and was treated quickly and well. They have bathrooms! I appreciated the value--worth my drive. I got fabric that I could not get at Joann's, but like all places, you have to browse well and probably go a few times a year for hard to get fabrics. read more

So happy I was able to make it to Vogue Fabrics an hour before they closed for the day. I just needed one type of fabric and looked online ahead of time. A very sweet staff person named Karen helped me locate the exact bolts right away (I had literally walked past it three times trying to find it myself). She even offered to help me get them from the high shelf, but I needed some time to figure out which color to get. Turns out I am not as strong as I thought... and of course, the color I wanted was at the bottom of the pile. A gentleman named Edgar was very kind to assist me even though he was in the middle of restocking fabric. He also cut some fabric swatches for me... and even went to get a shopping cart for me. This customer service was beyond my expectations! A+ Mary was very kind to help me cut my fabric. She also gave me some ideas on thread choices. She also multitasked and assisted another customer while I needed an extra minute to figure out yardage. She used to help me out at the old Main Street location, too. (She was the guardian of the cotton batiste kept behind the counter. ) I would be remiss to not mention one of the sweetest staff there: Nancy! Today was her well-deserved day off... but I look forward to seeing her during another visit. The old Main Street shop had its charming nostalgia... but I actually enjoy shopping at this warehouse better. You can bring all your items to one cutting counter. To me, the fabric seems more organized. Perhaps it is the use of vertical shelving vs tables at the old shop. There is a greeter at the entrance, too... if you have questions on where to go. I came in looking for fabric for a blanket I want to make. I haven't had any luck at chain fabric/craft stores so people recommended I stop in here. Well, it was a total bust. For starters, it was very hard to get on the street the shop is on. It's a side street and when I was trying to go, there were giant Costco trucks stuck. I tried to go around but I couldn't find another way onto the street so I ended up waiting. Parking is abysmal. Most of the street parking in the area is permit only parking. The parking lot was tiny and super full. Entering was weird - you go past an office and then you're in the warehouse. It was one large room with rows of fabric. Which seems promising but it's a very disappointing warehouse. Joann Fabrics had more fabrics than this place. They did have a lot more costume fabrics but if you want anything for more of a home project, forget about it. The color selection was basic and all the patterned fabric was incredibly juvenile. None of the fleeces were soft. And everything was so pricey. It was also incredibly dark. Think of it as the early 2000s Hollister of fabric stores. I expect my fabric stores to be bright so I can see the colors and textures in the fabric. I definitely will not ever go back. Inconvenient to get to and limited options for fabric? I used to work at Vogue Fabrics on Main Street. To the people complaining about the cut edge not being straight - please understand that swatches are taken off live bolts of fabric for online customers. That's why there is often a strip bitten off the edge on one cut edge. When the fabric cutters cut your order, they are (or should be) measuring after that bite. So in essence you will actually get a little more yardage than you ordered. The cutter is not required to provide a perfectly squared cut edge, they are required to give the appropriate amount of yardage within that cut. When i receive a jagged or unevenly cut edge, I do measure to make sure my yardage falls within it, and am always happy when I get that little bonus. read more

Ordered 17 cuts of baby muslin fabrics at over 1.25 yd each. Shipping was quick- arrived less then 10 days since order date. The fabric quality is as expected, except that it attracts more lint than what I have purchased from other stores. I inspected each cut upon arriving today and 4 out of the 17 cuts are horriblly cut. I never expect a perfectly straight line for fabric cuts, but these were unacceptable. Also, 2 of the 17 cuts were stained as what the photo showed. read more

I've been going to a little store called "Vogue Fabrics" in Evanston, IL, for the past year. It was the closest and most convenient fabric store to my studio space. Their store always had a strange vibe. The staff acted extremely rude towards their customers every time I was in the store, and anytime you went up to ask them a question, or for assistance, they acted like it was the biggest inconvenience in the world. But...it got the job done, was convenient and helped support a small business. About four months ago, my sewing machine broke down, and I decided to take it into their store for a repair--oh, boy--big mistake. I've been ghosted for nearly three months with zero updates/progress on my machine and have been fighting to get a hold of anyone. Keep in mind - This was weeks before the pandemic hit, and even during it, they were still operating in full force. After nearly three months, I was able to get a hold of someone and set up an appointment to pick up my machine the following week. (Finally. We're making progress) Next week rolled by. I waited all day to hear whether or not it was ready for pick up like they promised. Then said F**k it, let me call them to see what's going on. (Many of your know - I'm a very patient person... but some things just have zero excuses). After about an hour, I got a hold of someone, and they told me it was ready for pickup. HOWEVER- When I asked what repairs they accomplished, they refused to tell me what work they did on the machine and forced me to pay the full repair amount online before arriving. Commence the half-hour car drive to the warehouse... By the time I arrived, they "threw" the surprise on me that they were closing in a few minutes and wouldn't allow me to inspect or even see the machine to see what repairs were done. (Given the circumstances, I said okay. I'm sure they did a fine job. Welp...Shame on me!) A few hours later, I opened my machine's case to discover that not only was I having the EXACT SAME problems with the machine prior but that there were also parts missing! After nearly three months of ghosting, having to literally track down what's going on with a service that I paid them for and having to postpone nearly all of my larger client's projects on hold?! Thanks for wasting my time and money! NEVER AGAIN. read more

Wow what can I say they have absolutely everything you could possible need. There are three large rooms full of everything possible related to sewing activities, crafts, and projects. They have every type of fabric you can possible imagine in every possible color. My only wish is that they had some more patterns that were updated. The best part for me is that they have so many different sales on everything! The back is full of scrap fabric sales which is great for someone learning how to sew and needing practice fabrics to work with. Not only do they have a large selection of fabrics but all the accessories too! There are hundreds of thread d types, scissors, buttons, decorative items and much more! This used to be my go-to fabric store for all my sewing projects. I just visited the new location and was very disappointed. Aisles so narrow that only one person could fit. Poor lighting so that color cannot be accurately evaluated. Rolls, of fabric shelved so that they are almost impossible to "shop". In addition there are no staff members to assist. I have a bad back and cannot haul large rolls of fabric around - apparently there is no other option. Time to find a different source for fabrics. read more

I wandered into Vogue Fabrics at 10am on a Monday morning after parking in the paid parking lot across the street to look around while I waited for Dave's Rock Shop to open. I've gone past Vogue Fabrics dozens of times and had no clue how large the shop is. Many filled and unorganized rooms!!! Ok, there is some rhyme or reason to the organization because it seems there is a rements area, a section for wools, a room of fancier materials for wedding dresses and gowns, and a room for zippers, buttons, and other other notions. I can't imagine not finding what you need for any project in this store. No one greeted me, said hello or even made eye contact with me the forty-five minutes I wandered around. This does not seem to deter the many customers that were already weaving their way through the crowded aisles early on a Monday morning. People watching is fun in this store because everyone is excited about the project they are buying for and there seems to be a buzz in the air. I think I may have to find a project and go back and dig around Vogue Fabrics a bit more! read more

Here's my take on Vogue (and I've been going here since I was a Girl Scout in 1969). If you want to be waited on hand and foot, and led to your wants and desires, buy ready made at Von Maur. Otherwise, it ain't happening there. What you will receive when you will walk into Vogue is a unbelievable array of fabrics, notions and patterns. If you can't walk out with it there- especially if you need some oblique button, oy, then you are going to find it- not even on the internet. I think the prices are pretty fair on some things and a bit high on others. price and compare- right? Did most of the saleswomen go to Wendy Ward Charm School? No. But I find most of them to be very nice, I just ignore any perceived attitude and pour on kindness and politeness like my Mother taught me to do. They are there to do their jobs and I think they do it pretty well. I will give a special shout out to Bobbie and the other wonderful women in Notions- all friendly, knowledgeable and professional. They know where everything is, what you will need (especially when you are a beginner like me, and Bobs was very patient). If you need to buy a machine or have it serviced, Jim is your man. My husband bought me an HUSQVARNA VIKING EMERALD 118, the sewing machine I use in classes there, and I received a very good price. I also get a student discount on most purchases. He will also help you learn your machine with a few lessons and answer your questions, so that you are comfortable using it. I also like that they have in-house repair and will order parts for most sewing machines. They also sell used machines. I find that to be very cool. I notice if Jim is not there to help with the machines, the owner is running around, doing a zillion things, and I find that he is very hands on. If I've ever had a question or needed anything, he's been the go to guy. I haven't sewed, literally since 1976, and I hated it then (don't love it now, but I need a hobby to get out since retiring). Veronica Brackett, the instructor asked me why I was taking both her Beginners Sewing and Intermediate Sewing this term if I'm not wild about sewing, but I explained that : 1: Veronica is personable and makes classes fun 2: She is knowledgeable and professional, and seems to know everything under the sun about sewing 3: Veronica is very patient. I don't pick skills like sewing up easily, but she will show me things over and over until I get it without making me feel stupid. At the time of this review, it's been something like 5 months and a thousand dollars (at least) and I have one finished skirt, (but two almost completed). I don't even wear skirts, but I will PROUDLY now! Guess what? I'm signing up for more classes, because Veronica is a wealth of information. Vogue has so many interesting fabrics, I'm sure Veronica will help me discover them to create not only clothes, but fun. read more

Came to Evanston to search this store for various fabrics to make several table cloths and table runners. I have various pieces already, with various sizes (depending on the function/material of cloths), so I brought one silk/lace table runner in with me to gauge the measurements best apt to fit my long dining table. The store was larger than I thought, and the staff that I overheard helping others didn't seem the most knowledgeable. I had my table measurements, as well as my materials' measurements, so fortunately I was set to do without assistance. Easily did I locate the materials throughout the store, and I created my own new table cloths/runners. The color/pattern/material options are plentiful. If there is one thing I HATE, its EMPLOYEES THAT HATE THEIR JOB and take it out on the customers!! I went in with high hopes to find a fabric to match my dress and the first employee I encountered was very rude when I asked for help. She said "it wasn't her Dept and told me to go ask another employee in the room next to her". Being my first time there the warehouse all looked like the same. So I just dismissed her rudeness and went to the next room which was the same as the first, "all filled with fabrics" the second employee didn't even bother to look at my dress material until I insisted if they had something remotely similar since she said "No, without even looking at it." Being upset I began to walk away and she said "well you're welcome" and I turned around and said "had I received any help I would say thank you, but I didn't." And She just rolled her eyes. I then began looking through the rows of fabric myself and I encountered two more employees who were just as rude if not worst. I finally had enough and left. Will never return, I rather drive far to other fabric stores than give my business to a place that clearly has "No concept of customer service". read more

Let me just say WOW! Vogue is the Queen of fabric stores hands down. Their sales are jaw-dropping, and this store is vast in size. Quality of every different type of fabric is excellent. Also, there is a plethora of different types of fabrics here, you'd just have to come here to see for yourself. The associates here are very warm and helpful. If you ever need to get a dress, jacket, or anything made, come here for the fabric. You won't regret it. Isn't nearly as up to the standards of the old location as far as cleanliness, options, and availability of pieces - but the biggest issue with this facility is how management talks to their staff while out on their sales floor. I just left after the middle-aged balding manager berated an employee so loudly you could hear it throughout the warehouse. In my opinion you don't speak to staff like that, let alone in front of customers standing all around the cutting center. I would recommend heading elsewhere for a friendlier experience overall! read more

I like vintage. I like vintage dresses a lot- the quality and the construction are not easily found in modern retail. Problem is, vintage prices are getting unaffordable to astronomically ridiculous. Which is not to say the quality isn't worth it- just try to find a non-frumpy, non-sheer garment that is machine washable, professional enough for work, wearable out and appropriate for longer than a single season... This is where learning to make something is going to be advantageous. Nicest staff answering all my silly beginner questions. Thank you- I am sure you have answered such annoying inquiries a bajillion times and will continue to again but to not be sarcastic or condescending while doing so is so appreciated! Pattern books with a lot of crafts. Then found some vintage options in McCalls and even more in Butterick with a tattooed model on the cover (Gertie, yes!) Lots of fabric options- from childish to quirky to comiccon to sophisticated and all the thread, ribbons, notions, buttons and whatnot you can make as elaborate as desired. I've been going to vogue in Evanston for 10 years. The customer service has decreased significantly. As a regular business shopper I am frequently told to go find things. I ask specific questions and am always directed to another person who also tells me to go search for it. This is bad customer service! Your employees should be helpful as they work there. Who would be better acquainted with the fabrics than them? There used to be associates that were so helpful and actually interested in helping you find what you need, but that is no longer the case and hasn't been for a few years. Meant to write this during Black Hx Month 2019. In Feb. I was asked to wear a piece of Kente attire to church. I drove past Main Beauty Supply eastbound to Vogue Fabrics. Paid for parking and tisk tisk tisk, the entire fabric store - NOT ONE PIECE OF KENTE! Started Googling and discovered Main Beauty Supply had Kente scarfs plus FREE parking. Shameful! Further, about 15 years ago (may as well mention while I'm here), I took a sewing class at Vogue and the instructor was very very indignant with the students. I never finished the class. read more
