I took the sewing machine to be repaired. They charged me $75 for nothing. Do not thread again. I take it again, they said that they don't repair the thread feeder. They packed it in my bag, I didn't look, in the bag only the machine without its box, I was deceived, I will buy another machine, let them keep the box, I do not recommend this service to anyone, 1511 n milwaukee read more

OUTSTANDING CUSTOMER SERVICE. Out of the handful of online retailers, I'm SO glad I chose SewingGold. I was in the market for an industrial straight stitch and I settled on the Juki 5550N over the 8700 because I wanted a Japanese-built machine. Steve shipped out promptly and everything arrived very well packaged. He emailed me several assembly videos from his YouTube channel in advance of the delivery. The videos were an absolute lifesaver and I was able to get the table, motor and machine together in an afternoon by myself even with my toddler running around. Flash forward to several months later and I ran into some issues, right as I was sewing a gift for my daughter's birthday. I emailed Steve my troubles, and he responded that same evening with an offer to FaceTime the next day to troubleshoot! (Seriously, who does this anymore?!) He assessed the issue correctly right away, gave me instructions, and I was able to fix my own machine within a few minutes! I was thrilled and able to finish my project in time. I HIGHLY recommend purchasing from Sewing Gold - fair prices, prompt shipping and unparalleled customer service. Thank you, Steve! read more

Above and beyond. Sent my machine there in an Uber. Was fixed within 2 days! And it Ubered home!

I brought my grandma's Singer 201 into the shop because it was running very sluggishly and not stitching properly. They fixed it in two days and even corrected some DIY tinkering my grandfather had done on the motor. To my knowledge, it had never been formally serviced. It runs wonderfully now. The machine is very dear to me and I'm grateful that they breathed new life into it. read more

Unbelievable! I was so excited to meet Steve because I have had a Pfaff 1222 my whole life, but it has never had a problem I needed fixing. I thought I had destroyed my machine by sewing into the bobbin holder. I was in a panic because I didn't want a new machine but didn't think I would find someone who would work on something so old. Not only did I get OUT OF THIS WORLD service, it was unexpectedly reasonable priced for the level of crafts-person-ship that went into maintaining sewing machine knowledge. The best part is that my sewing machine has NEVER ever worked so well. It was like the most magical experience I have had in years. I am telling all my sewing friends about it as well as others! Definitely go to Goldblatt! read more

Really fast service for our well loved machine- their turnaround is usually 24 hours. I have previously used other local repair shops and waited weeks to get my machine back. I will be back- thank you! read more

I have two sewing machines and neither of them were working at the beginning of the pandemic. I used to love to sew but hadn't done so for some time. Goldblatt's helped me get both machines working, and were very patient in helping me figure out all my user errors in getting the machines to function properly. I am so grateful! It's made being at home so much not only tolerable, but enjoyable. Thank you. read more

As always, YELP is the place where I go to to seek out reviews on surrounding businesses. Due to Covid-19, I was forced to bring out my Kenmore sewing machine to assist in making masks. I have not used this machine since the 1980s. This machine had never had a tune-up or oil job and was doing its job until one day it stopped. I had become very close to this old machine because of the service that it had given me. I found the GOLDBLATT SEWING MACHINES review and gave it a shot. This business is very professional, they know their machines and were able to prepare my machine in 1 day. They were very accurate with the diagnosis and the repair price was very reasonable. I would recommend the business to anyone looking for sewing machine repair. They are a friendly and honest family business. read more

I love this place and have used them over the years because of, not in spite of, their tone and practices. "Do you have part number 32590 for a Singer 99?" "I think we'll have to order this, but I can check" "Thanks" This is my preferred customer service interaction. I don't need my ego stroked or my hair braided. I love these guys. Direct but solid service and you know exactly what they can and cannot do. They do not promise the moon, but rather deliver solid work. I wish more customer service was this straightforward, honestly. read more

Our 1980's vintage Singer sewing machine broke down. The machine was not advancing and made an awful grinding noise. I had a great experience. I called there and they told me to bring it and they would like to check it out. When we arrive, he told us it will take 2 hours to fix it. He also give us a fantastic deal. The total for parts $25 with labor and tuneup $50. After 45 min, he give us a call. Vintage Singer was ready to pick up. They fixed our machine in a jiffy, seriously in about 45min. Runs like new now ! They also stocked us with the right needles, thread & bobbins. I would highly recommend this shop !!! Thanks Goldblatt for a great service !!! read more

This place has horrible customer service. The manager, in particular, is rude and condescending. I inherited a 5-year-old Singer sewing machine that was in great condition. After a few crazy months of what felt like nonstop sewing (holiday season), the timing needed an adjustment. I took the sewing machine here because they seemed inexpensive despite a quick turnaround. My sewing machine worked great...for 2 days. I looked at the machine closely to see if it was something I could adjust, at which point I noticed a lot of grease marks and scratches on the back that weren't there before. Fortunately, I was able to clean off most of the marks. I brought the machine back to this store, and the manager actually seemed annoyed when I showed them the scratches - is it crazy to think that a machine shouldn't come back in worse shape then when it was dropped off? They decided the machine needed a replacement part. After a few minutes, the manager said he couldn't find the part in his Singer manual. He said he could repair it if I could call Singer myself and get the part. This seemed weird since they are a Singer authorized repair service, they could probably better describe to Singer exactly what I needed, and my machine is only 5 years old... After calling Singer the next week, I decided to cut my losses and bring my machine to the Vogue Fabrics in Evanston, which several friends recommended. I wish I had gone there first as this place was a colossal waste of time. read more

Okay, I read the reviews and I was a bit worried...but my daughter was having a slight sewing emergency and I needed 2 of her machines fixed...and it was Superbowl Sunday. I called Goldblatt's and talked to the owner (he is the Grandson of the founder) to find out they were open and he told me to bring them in and he would fix both of them same day. Sure enough, he was able to take care of both machines in a couple hours while my daughter and I had breakfast and cruised around Bucktown. He was so helpful, showing my daughter little ways to take care of her machines and showing me how to clean them. Don't buy the bad reviews...I think this place is amazing and I truly appreciate their help. They won a customer for life. read more

I was in the middle of a mad sewing session Friday (anniversary gift due to husband on Saturday!) when, all of a sudden, the hand-wheel on my trusty Singer just locked up. I raced the machine over to Goldblatt's right before they closed. The man there reassured me that the problem was likely not a huge one, and that he'd call the next day with a quote. Sure enough, by 10 a.m. Saturday, I knew that the motor just needed removed and cleaned, and they'd do that along with a standard tune-up for $70. I picked up my good-as-new machine on Sunday. So even though the anniversary gift will have to be a little late, I'm once again thankful for Goldblatt's expertise, quick turnaround, and affordable prices. read more

I didn't think this place was so bad. I recently took my old Kenmore sewing machine in for repairs. This was the second time in about 3 years that I've gone to them. They were quick with the repairs (same day). A little pricey though. $60 for a (much needed) tune up. I can see why people didn't like the attitude, but I think it's just his personality. Short review: Conveniently located, they do a good job, but you pay for it. read more

I had a great experience here. Brought my old yard sale-bought machine in, and they were able to repair and return the same day. I went home and immediately tested it out, and it worked great. The $65 that I was charged to fix the timing and give it a much needed tune up is completely in line with what other repair shops in the area charge. I dealt with three different people in the shop, and all were helpful and great. After some of the negative reviews I was almost disappointed that the head guy wasn't grumpier because I have a big soft spot for curmudgeons...but he was totally normal. In short, my experience was positive, and I'm happy to recommend Goldblatt. read more

Before I go to any new store I always check Yelp for reviews. Based on some of the other reviews I prepared myself to deal with a complete grouch (as described by other reviewers) because the store is close to my house and I didn't want to lug my old 1940's Kenmore to Evanston. Since it was a Saturday when my machine broke I called ahead to check the store hours. The older man who answered the phone was nice, so I thought it must be somebody else who is the grouch. Well, I took my sewing machine in and the same older man who answered the phone helped me in the store. Not only was he not rude or grouchy, he was actually kind and pleasant. He told me he would take a look at it then call when he knew what the issue was. He called about an hour later to let me know it needed a basic tune up, that it would be $60 and that I could pick it up the next day. Kool. When I picked my machine up Mr. Goldblatt's son helped me. He was also a really nice guy and helped me get my machine into my bag and then into my cart. Once I got my sewing machine home and begun to sew I was so happy. It's now working better than it ever has. If you are reading these reviews and basing your decision to get your machine fixed here on the shop owner's personality you are seriously overthinking this. I feel like he has gotten a bad rap from a few reviewers, which is completely undeserved. This company has been around a long time for a reason - their quality of work. They did a great job fixing my machine, so I'm a happy customer. read more

Hadn't used my Janome in several years and thought I'd better get it checked out before I started using it again. Did vaguely remember it wasn't stitching properly when I stopped using it... Fairly new to Chicago so I hadn't known where to take it for it's annual service, which was why it hadn't been done for a couple of years. Got on Yelp and found Goldblatt. Called and they said bring it it. They have a delivery stand in the doorway with a plastic shield for contact free service. They took my machine and serviced it really fast. Called me to let me know that my bobbin case was damaged (that explains the bad stitching) and they could fix it. The fix only cost $10. The service was more than reasonable ($60 I think) and done within 24 hours. They got my poor baby working beautifully again! So happy. They will be my choice for the annual checkup from now on. read more

My 30 year old Kenmore home sewing machine was in dire need of a tune up and repair. It was noisy, feed dogs were hesitating and the whole machine was getting loud. I was worried that she was beyond repair. Goldblatt to the rescue! I dropped it off on Monday and they had it ready in two days. The machine is quiet, stitching evenly and seams are beautiful again. Curbside drop off, fair pricing and great workmanship. I highly recommend Goldblatt Sewing Machines, simply the best! read more

I went to Goldblatt sewing to purchase a Juki ddl 8700h. Steve was magnificent. He explained every possible detail about the machine. Took his time with answering any question I had. I was not rushed, and was told to feel free to call if I had any other questions. The prices for his machines are very fair. If you are looking for an industrial workhorse sewing machine for home or workplace Goldblatt sewing is the place to go. Steve, and his staff are very dedicated to Making sure everyone has been thoroughly instructed on safety, and how to use the machines. The prices are very reasonable, and cheaper than other sewing machine stores. Due to covid they are also very cautious, only letting one customer in the store at a time, and wearing masks. Thank you again Steve for your time, and patience. Julie read more

I needed an industrial machine to sew leather, and wanted to shop locally. I love this place. Years ago, the sewing machine my mom gave me was acting funny. I took it in for a tune up and they said it looked like it had never been oiled. (It hadn't.) He showed me how to do it. Good as new. Last year I dropped my machine(!!) and it stopped working. I took it in and they called me to say that there was nothing wrong with it. It was totally one of those, when you take the car to the mechanic and it stops making that noise kinda thing. I appreciated their honesty. They could have told me they fixed it and charged me and I wouldn't have even known. read more

I had been looking for a place to service my serger that was off track and was grateful when I found this place. The process was easy and I got a free estimate. My experiences here are always great. They are honest, fair, fast, and extremely knowledgeable. I appreciate no-frills customer service, and I especially like the fact that a small, family-run business still exists and thrives in the now overly-commercialized Wicker Park area. read more

A few years ago these guys tried to sell me a machine for double the price that they were simultaneously selling it for on eBay with the "buy it now" feature (under a different business name but same phone number and backround info.) If you need to buy bobbins or machine oil in a pinch this place is conveniently located, but I wouldn't trust these guys for anything else. I've been taking my machine to the Singer Factory Store up on Irving Park Road since then. They aren't as conveniently located but they've done a good job maintaining my industrial machine (not a Singer) and are reasonably priced. Update in response to Steve at Goldblatts: Though you may sell the machines on ebay knocked down this wouldn't have affected my pricing as I would have been buying just a machine head and switching it out with another one I have and not buying the other parts requiring further assembly and set-up. read more

BEWARE! While I like the idea of supporting a small and specific business such as this, I cannot recommend this place. The staff is surly to say the least, especially when dealing with women. There is a $60 minimum repair charge, which these guys will fail to warn you of, and the offered "free estimate" does not actually exist. Every aspect of my interactions with this business was unpleasant-steer clear. read more

A store I work for buys a lot of machines from Goldblatts. The are personal, professional and the type of place you'd want to do business with. Home machine or industrial they are the spot. Plus they are in the city which is 10 better than the options. Needles to bobbins and heavy to light they'll take care of you. Keep to the good work! read more

Just great. I've had several consumer machines tuned up here, as well as purchased parts for my Singer 20U. These guys are as helpful as can be. They've got the parts, they've got the knowhow, they get the job done quickly at a reasonable price, and they're pretty nice guys once you realize they're probably more a B to B outfit than accustomed to knuckleheads like me walking in off the street to pick their brains. They even had an accessory for my grandmother's 1941 Singer 99. I'd continue doing business with these guys even if I didn't live nearby. read more

I don't know where all these "rude staff" comments are coming from! My experience there was awesome. Everyone I encountered was extremely welcoming and helpful. My machine needed a lot of new parts and repairs and they took under 24 hours to have my machine working beautifully again at a fair price. They also kept me updated on cost and what repairs they were preforming every step of the way. I will be back for any tune-ups or repairs I may need in the future. Thanks again! read more

The best place in Chicago for any thing that you need with your machines, they are both very honest about what you need to do when it comes to your machines. The best motors I am so happy with my purchases and it has been years! Love, love this place! read more

Excellent repair shop with next day service, if you can put up with mediocre customer service. I was having issues with my 1960s Singer and took it in for repair. The gentleman who took it in was rather rude but assured me they could fix it (not much detail provided like what might be wrong or what would be inspected - this was irritating). However, it was ready the next day and was in impeccable condition. It purrs! I still have no idea what they did to it. Bonus points for another sales clerk who noticed I was 8 months pregnant and helped me carry my machine out to the car. read more

I'm so lucky that Goldblatts is the closest repair shop to my current home! Their skills are impeccable, their prices fair, and I've always found their customer service to be very polite and helpful. I've worked at multiple tailoring shops that have purchased industrial Jukis from them, and not only are the machines total dreams to work on, but they're so willing to help with troubleshooting over the phone or with a visit. I actually live in San Francisco and was just visiting Chicago. Noticing this place while I was in the neighborhood, I asked if they had a zipper foot for my older model Nelco JA-38, which they did. When I got it home to California, I realized it was the wrong kind of foot (low shank when it should have been high shank). I called and the manager was apologetic and promised to immediately mail me the correct zipper foot. read more

I stopped by Glodblatt on a Saturday after calling to see whether they had a belt for the machine I was working on for my wife (40 year old Singer Touch n Sew). This is definitely a mechanic shop above all else. Somewhat messy, but organized as well - like your local automotive mechanic's garage. The guys there spent a good amount of time on me finding various parts I needed both from their replacement parts stock as well as pulled parts from their collection of old machines. The handful of parts that let me get the machine back together ended up being only $30 of parts - both fair and reasonable price for what I got. While I haven't had a service job by these guys, I can tell they know their stuff and are there to help. read more

If you don't have a sewing machine, get one so you can do business with Goldblatt! Seriously, they are that good. Just as other reviewers have reported, I was quoted a standard price of $60 for a tune-up and was promised a phone call should there be anything unusual so I could approve the cost before the work was done. A friend and I dropped off our machines around 1 p.m. today and I received a call less than an hour 1/2 later re additional repairs needed for the bobbin winder on my machine - my friend's was ready to pick up. I was told that he would first attempt to repair and then replace the parts if necessary and quoted me an additional price range of $15 - 40. Both machines were ready when we returned to the neighborhood around 4 p.m. The repairs made to my machine were fully explained to me, as was the 30 day guarantee. 5 stars! read more

I took my ancient industrial machine for a tune up. The Goldblatt's guys took care of my dinosaur, and got it up and running within a few business days. I especially appreciated their instructions on how to better care for my machine. The leather belt I have is at least 30 years old and I assumed it required replacment too, but they told me it was just fine and didn't try to mislead me into buying parts and pieces I didn't need. The tune up for my industrial machine was about the same as the reviews I see on regular household machines too. I left very satisfied with the experience and would most certainly go back for more service. Supporting small locally owned and long standing business is another plus in selecting Goldblatt. I had a great experience here. I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon and dropped off my machine which was in dire need of a tune-up. I explained the issues, five minutes later I was off enjoying my afternoon. I got a call just before 5pm with the estimate ($65) and my machine was repaired by 1pm on Sunday. I am very happy with the results. Other places keep your machine for a week, mine was only out of commission for 24 hours. The price is a little steep (thus 4 stars), but I'm glad to have my machine working again. I will definitely return when my machine acts up again. Finally, I just want to add that the guy was all business, I wouldn't invite him to a slumber party, but he gets the job done and that's what I needed. Thanks, Goldblatt! read more

We did not need any parts so imagine our utter shock when Steve said "No Charge"! Mind you this was a holiday weekend.
