I love this place so so much!! The employees are so sweet and helpful. I think my only complaint is how cramped it is. Other than that, we had a great time!! Their selection of pottery is so large and we took a very long time to pick. They have so many fun tools to use. It only took a week for our creations to be done which was amazing!! They gave me bubble wrap and a box to carry it. Very secure! It's also BYOB which is so cute. I want to go back for a girl's day. Such a good date idea!! :) read more

Came for sip and paint! The selection of what to paint was pretty good. I picked the cactus which was $16 and then there's the $8 painting fee. All the other items seemed more than $16. Their color selection was kinda limited and you have to do 3 layers of each color or else it comes out splotchy. You come back 7-30 days after to pick it up and my pickup was smooth! Honestly have never thought to leave a bad review ever at an establishment but the man at the front desk was so beyond rude to me when I was picking up my pottery and others checking in in front of me received the same treatment. This is the second time this has happened to me at this establishment and it's a shame such a creative place has such rude staff. Consider going to Color Me Mine instead because it's a similar concept. read more

Such an innovative concept! We went here for the first time. It's essentially painting of your chosen pots and then you pick it up a week later once the colours are fully set. Each model/pot you pick has a different price. And then there's a standard painting price I believe. It is also BYOB! Which is awesome. A really nice way to wind down or do a fun activity with your friends! read more

The ambiance was nice, but the brushes were very old, especially considering the price we paid--better quality tools would really improve the experience. The space also lacked proper airflow; it was hot and humid throughout our visit. Additionally, the staff didn't seem very friendly, which affected the overall atmosphere. I'm not sure I would return. read more

They are so rude here. They dont want anyone coming in. They want an empty studio where they dont have to do much work.

I'm going to preface this by saying I'm not an artist. Some might say I have 0 artistic talent. Even so, I had a blast. There's something therapeutic about painting little critters. Pair that with a bottle of wine and you've got an absolutely amazing date night. It's a pretty cheap date and you will certainly impress. read more

Super fun date night activity! I love finding things to do with friends/on a date besides just grabbing drinks or dinner, and this was perfect! I came on a Wednesday night, which is their adults-only night. I think this would be a great activity to do with kids (I remember loving pottery painting as a kid) but it was really nice to be able to enjoy a more chill night with just adults. It's BYOB so we brought a bottle of wine (don't forget to bring glasses too, they don't have any!) and were able to enjoy it while we painted. The staff were all super friendly and helpful, and I love my new tumbler! Will definitely be returning. read more

I highly recommend Glazed expressions for any pottery painting needs! Each time I go, Keith the owner, is quick to help and give advice on the right brush or technique to use to create my intended design. He's a direct person, not harsh, and genuinely cares for his craft. They are often busy so I recommend scheduling in advance, especially for larger groups! read more

What an extremely fun concept, but what terribly rude and belittling staff. The man who sits at the front spoke to my friend and I as if we were children, and he was extremely condescending when we asked questions. The couple sitting next to us said they were scared to ask where to put their brushes back, as they didn't want the man to yell at them. Our final painted/glazed products ended up turning out great, and there were lots of options to choose from, but I will NOT be returning given how I was treated, which is sad because I live right in the neighborhood. read more

I've been a loyal customer of Glazed Expressions for two years, and it consistently deserves 5 stars! The staff is friendly, funny, and always ready to assist. The value you get here is fantastic, and it's the perfect spot to enjoy with friends. What's truly remarkable is that people of all ages, even those who aren't artists, absolutely adore this place. They are busy so I always recommend making a reservation! Also in light of reading some other reviews I wanted to say that Keith (the owner) is a character - I find his humor is dry, cynical and sometimes a little sharp but at no point is he intending to be unkind or condescending. He is a big part of what makes this place so special. If in doubt clap back a little he will laugh with you, beneath a slightly rough exterior he is incredibly kind and thoughtful. Don't let this be the reason you don't come! read more

The owner was awful. I asked him if I could clean my paint brush in the sink and as I walked away, he said "Someone already told you where the EFFING paint brushes are!". If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. This is not the first review of the owner being discriminatory towards race, women and children. Please do not bring your business here. read more

Had so much fun here with two of my friends! You pick the piece you want and the bottom of the piece tells you the price. Make sure you make a reservation if you can. They also require that you pick up within a month of the day you come. There's tons of colors and brushes and stencils and markers and other stuff I probably didn't even notice. They give you as much time as you need and don't rush you when you're painting, however please make sure to look at their hours and rules. I would definitely come back and look forward to bringing my boyfriend and other friends! read more

The younger staff are great and helpful when it comes to the painting experience but the old white man was incredibly rude for no reason the 1st second we stepped into the place. Because of him I would not come back read more

In terms of pricing, it seems like great value for money. The pieces start at $12 and there's only an $8 studio fee. There are a lot of pieces you can choose from. However, the service was not the greatest. I walked in solo (just myself) and saw 4 or 5 open tables. Despite the place looking half empty, I was told I needed to come back a different day. read more

I LOVE GLAZED EXPRESSIONS! There are so many base and paint options to choose from for incredibly reasonable prices. The owner speaks in a harder tone- but in a very dry-sarcasm, unserious way. It feels like a small town shop (but in the city.) read more

Overall had a fun experience - lots of options, good price. Their paint process was disorganized where you had to borrow paint from other customers. Most places you leave the paint and keep refilling your palette. The bad experience was when I came to pick up and the person helping me was so incredibly rude to me. I don't think I'll come back to paint again. read more

This was like therapy. Like going to a friend's house to chill out, get creative, listen to music, and talk. The owner (Keith) has such a laid back and fun personality and provides such a pleasant atmosphere, along with Hayley the dog who was so super sweet! Since it was our first time, my friend and I each chose a simple jar to paint and it took us a bit over two hours to decide on colors and finish painting. The time flew by as we painted and talked, and took advice from Keith whenever needed (I even really enjoyed the music that was playing- just a variety of classic hits). It's such a unique place to bring friends, and Keith has a great sense of humor, too. I'm excited to go back!!! read more

Overall: Given that it's one of the few in the area, Glazed Expressions is a great spot for an afternoon of pottery painting. The good: Very friendly staff who were helpful with the entire process, from pricing to tips. They have a lot of options to choose from for painting, whether it's a simple bowl or dish to cartoon molds and Cubs decorations. They also have a lot of colors to choose from and are well stocked, so it's rare to not have what you need. Great music, and BYOB! The not-so-good: No water cups for your brushes, and they also didn't have paint writers for detailing. Aside from that, it was a tad expensive. Had to come in multiple times to find what we wanted to paint. Service: 9/10 Atmosphere: 8/10 read more

Great Experience, and if you love dogs you'll see a special surprise behind the desk!

I've never written a Yelp review before, but I had to after this experience. I called to see if I could make a reservation, since their website says that's the best way to get a spot. The person who answered the phone was so unbelievably rude. I totally understand they don't take reservations after 4:30, but the way I was spoken to was really disrespectful. It left me feeling pretty bad, honestly. If you recommend speaking calling for reservations the least you can do is speak to people kindly. read more

The front staff are very helpful and friendly. They have a nice selection of pottery. I wish that their brushes were in better condition (they're worn down to stumps) and they had more paint colors. One staff member asked me if I spoke "Chinese" while I waited to use the restroom. That was both odd and off-putting. read more

This is a great activity to do anytime . The vibe on Sunday was amazing, the music was so on point and help create such a relaxing atmosphere. Honestly felt like I was in my living room . We weren't rushed and the all our questions were answered like we were taking to an old friend . Great spot in Lincoln park . We for sure be back. Ohh and it was properly spaced out & the owner was cleaning and wiping down everything in a timely manner. read more

I am a devoted fan of paint your own pottery! I love coming to this place for so many reasons. It's in a great location on Armitage, it's BYOB, painting is so relaxing and the pricing is really fair. You choose whatever you want - there are ENDLESS options of awesome items and the price is on the bottom - and then pay a small fee to use all the brushes, paint and for your piece to get glazed and fired in the kiln. The owner, Keith, is incredibly helpful and gives great suggestions if you need them. He helped me create an "antiqued" look on my most recent visit. I was admiring some of the gnomes and he really patiently taught me how to achieve a similar look. Mine didn't turn out as good as the samples but I still love him! This is a great activity on your own or in a group - I've done it both ways. Reservations are recommended! read more

Please do not come here, like the other reviews said, the staff is extremely rude and the customer service is awful. The man that was working there while I visited (named Keith I think) had such a rude attitude for no reason. My friend asked him where the markers were and he responded "Where I told you they were." Also, multiple times, he started muttering profanities to himself which was really unprofessional given this place was supposed to be kid friendly. The guy who works here is a terrible belittling child. We have tried to come two different times and weren't seated. The first time we called ahead to ask about reservations and was told we didn't need one. I walked in and I said one word and he interrupted me and told me no. I tried to go two weeks later and called the day before to double check about reservations AGAIN. Was told no need, just come early and we could paint. Got there before they even opened, he asked if we had a reservation and we said no because we were told we didn't need one. He looks at his book to see if he can seat us and he says he can't. Even though there were 18 seats open. DO NOT GO HERE. He was also very rude to the other customers in the store trying to paint and pick up pottery. Incredibly disappointed in their service. I called a full day ahead asking if me and a friend could come in at 6, but was rudely told on the phone yesterday that it would not be a possibility for that time, but then said I could come in around 5-5:30, and was told they would be able to have a spot for 2 of us. When we showed up at approximately 5-5:15 the next day, the lady at the front had an attitude from the beginning when we walked in, as if we shouldn't have come in in the first place. When we explained that we had called yesterday and was told to come at this time, she looked at us like we were crazy and said that there was absolutely no space for us, even though there were THREE empty tables sitting there. Ultimately, she apologized for the lack of communication among the staff, as I "should have never been told that in the first place." They straight up just turned us away without offering any kind of compensation and said "maybe at 6:15 you could come in but not promising anything." Horrible staff and vibe in general. read more

Proceeded to walk in at 5:45 with a friend (They close at 7:00 apparently) the man behind the counter told us we do not have time to begin a project since they take longer to finish we imagine. My mother used to own one of these so I'm very familiar with the process. I asked if we could begin and take the pottery home and then come back, the man said no. He then proceeded to make a misogynistic remark along the lines of how long women take to paint. Willing to give it another shot but in the mean time I found this extremely rude telling us we cannot begin a project and then making a comment about my friend. read more

We were 10 minutes late for our reservation because we had taken the bus. The man working was on the phone when we got there and so we were waiting and looking around. The first thing he said to us is "Hey!! I need to talk to at least one adult over here!" in a rude voice. He then rudely made a "joke" that our reservation was canceled because we were late (despite the place being empty) and then told us not to be so sensitive when we didn't get that his rude comments were jokes. We ended up leaving and after reading all of the other bad reviews, I'm glad we did. Really neat looking place but too bad the employee is so rude and condescending. read more

It's a shame that the owner is so strange because this would but a go-to if he wasn't there.
