The walls are lined with glass cases full of jewelry, but then there's a rolling rack parked in front of the cases:( That said, they have amazing jewelry from all time periods- gold, silver, expensive, cheap, all the gemstones! The women who worked there were very kind to me and helpful. The owner, however, is unbearably rude. I read the reviews about him before going and thought it couldn't be THAT bad. It was. i couldnt believe what i was seeing and hearing from him. He was berating his staff, and yelled at me for standing supposedly in the wrong area while trying jewelry on. I was there looking at jewelry for my wedding. I had to step in while he was speaking so disrespectfully to a female employee to tell him that she was doing a wonderful job helping me and i was really enjoying her service, to hopefully get him to back off. I am worried about the young women that work there and i really hope they are okay. read more

It's funky dunky (in a good way) at Vintage Underground and situated right in the middle of all things hip and cool. Out and about with my kiddo after our stop at Devil Dogs, he wanted to check out some of the vintage shops in the neighborhood. To be honest, we were looking for cool clothing and t-shirts, etc., so we didn't spend much time in this shop, but we did have a great time looking around. This is where you go for kitschy accessories: jewelry, hats, and more. My son, who is obsessed with old cameras, spent some time checking out their vintage camera selection. Small but a nice variety (see my pics). Take note, this is not a huge store, and it's pretty compact with little room to move around...because lots of cool stuff! Contrary to what others have said about customer service, we found everyone to be overly friendly and helpful. They helped us navigate our way through the store, especially since it was our very first time. Lots of other cool shops in the area within walking distance. Go check it out! read more

My experience here was formidable. Me and my girlfriend came here today to check out what this place had to offer since we checked out the thrift store across the street. They have great stuff here don't get me wrong but my issue that made me uncomfortable being here was that the owner (I believe) was yelling at this woman who was the cashier loudly while we're just trying to shop with customers inside it . The owner sounded like he was having alot of anger with his job and other issues. We left the store just because we didn't want to be a part of that which ultimately killed our shopping experience. read more

Overpriced and rude. I wandered in with a coffee, happily browsed my way through the racks to the back of the store and back towards the front looking at their jewelry displays. I didn't see a single item below $20. near one of the displays by the exit, I made eye contact and smiled at two staff members. Rather than simply say to me "We prefer people not to walk around with food or drinks, could you hand that to me or take it outside?" an older guy, (possibly owner) said to the woman who was helping someone at the counter "See, she's walked in with a coffee again. Nobody sees it." Not kind way to treat staff or speak within earshot of a customer. They'll get no business from me. read more

I was curious about the store since I went to the other vintage stores near it but this became such a disappointment. This employee was following me and my friend around like we were gonna steal something and when we were looking at the bags he just kept getting closer and just staring at us , it really made me uncomfortable but what made me so mad was when he screamed at us for taking a picture of the store. Gahhhh! This place is vintage jewelry heaven !! ( and that stuff is my Kryptonite). Oh, my, I had fun in there. The owners and staff are knowledgeable, approachable and really warm, in general. They have a little bit of all things vintage but mostly a staggering amount of jewelry. It's so well organized, I would have to say it's curated. It's broken down in cases according to materials and age classification. If you don't know what you're looking for, you might just find it in there. Be the belle of the ball with something from the unbelievable rhinestone case! Be a dapper Dan with a gorgeous antique Bowler! Stopped in today with some friends because I had purchased some items from here before. When we walked in, we were greeted and the employee explained the store to us. Unfortunately this time it was a different person working and she preceded to relentlessly follow us around the store, as if we were going to steal something. We would have most likely purchased something but the employee on our heels made it uncomfortable to look at the items for sale. It's a veritable parade of vintage shops and Vintage Underground is a jewel among them. This shop has one of the most impressive selections of vintage costume jewelry that I have seen in my travels. When I traipsed in, I was looking for a pair of vintage costume earrings in pearl and/or rhinestones that are pierced rather than clips - which is a more challenging request than you might think! The proprietress exhaustively combed their vast collection to find every possible option for me, sharing tidbits of knowledge about vintage designers and styles with me along the way. They have a lot of good jewelry/accessories however, like the other reviews mention, the owner is slightly crazy. He's so rude to employees and talks down on them right in front of his customers. Also, while they have a decent collection of jewelry, it's very overpriced. My friend pointed to a ring on the counter and the owner told my friend that he had just cleaned the counter and now could see her finger prints on it which was so rude of him because she was just looking at it. i wish i could put zero stars but i had to put one so i could write this. the owner/boss said vulgar and discriminatory rhetoric towards the employees. He made me very uncomfortable all the while he was scamming me. I bought one of the hat boxes on display and they did not let me see the item before purchasing and when i did i looked at and saw the original price--they made me overpay by an absurd amount. It was a 300% markup which is absolutely unethical. the store itself was dirty with rat traps and poison everywhere. DO NOT DO Business here, there are so many better vintage/thrift stores on the same street. this place is unprofessional and grimy, all the while the boss is absolutely disgusting towards employees and staff. even though it is important to shop small and support local do not pick this place to start doing so. read more

I had such a HOOT in this store! Loved everything about this store! I watched a special on TV highlighting different Chicago shops and was curious to go exploring. I don't know who is an owner or who is a manager but the two individuals behind the counter, a man and a woman, were like a tag team of humor. When you enter the store, there is a large wrap around glass cabinet that has so many rings it is almost impossible to limit your purchase to just one. And not just rings, the whole place is literally filled to the brim with treasurers. I can't really give an opinion on prices. Usually something catches my eye and that's it! Unless it is grossly expensive I don't shop around. I bought a gorgeous silver ring "because I had to have it" and it was $65.00. Haven't taken it off since!!!!! Amazingly beautiful vintage items! It is clear that the owners of this store have amazing taste and bring so many unique, valuable finds to the table. No matter when you stop in you are guaranteed to fall in love with something. Vintage Underground has two stores in Wicker Park and I really enjoy both stores for totally different reasons. This boutique store has an upscale, refined feel to it. They have a ton of gorgeous jewelry pieces that are displayed beautifully. Their other location on North Ave has more of a treasure hunt feel to it, where you have a larger volume of items that you really get to search through. A must visit for anybody who is a fan of vintage and lives in Chicago! read more

A little of a mess. Not cheap per say. There are some great finds here. I always stop in, but I never seem to have boughten anything. I wish I could say more good things about it. I do have a thing more for clothing, so I always find myself disappointed in the clothing section of the store. They do have some clearance items upstairs. It was mostly 80's which I hate hate. Love! Came in here with my bff and stayed until we were guilty looking at our wallets. The woman and Italian man were helpful, taking jewelry out of the case and not rushing us at all. After showing the woman a picture of the 1920's dress I was trying to accessorize, she excitedly recommended some other pieces I hadn't noticed.
