This place is a gem, lives up to the "vintage" name. There's no thrifting here, it's straight up vintage-- as in totally unique, quirky and interesting pieces that you wouldn't mind paying more money for. There are unworn items with tags from the 50s like two-piece skirt suits and cocktail dresses or Levi's jeans from the 70s. The tags with prices are keepsakes themselves. My daughter found a varsity jacket made with wool and leather, no polyester or pleather like you'd find nowadays. The space is clean and chic, the only thing not typical of a vintage spot! Really good selection especially the DRESSES! Oh my gosh more vintage dresses than you've ever seen in your life. And not just like 80s/90s I'm talking 70s, 60s, and even earlier. Not sure how they managed to get their hands on 1950s/1940s bathing suits, I'd never seen one in the flesh until I went to this store. They must have a lot of good connections with really really old women about to kick the bucket lol ANYWAY 2 suggestions for you guys! 1. The slippery metal hangers can be a nuisance. Adding some grips to them may be helpful to customers and would mean less work for you guys having to pick things up! 2. Adding approximate sizes to the tags of the dresses. A lot of them are handmade so there's no tags inside that would give you a clue but even measuring the dresses using one metric like waist size to get an approximate 2022 size # would be super helpful! read more

This is located in Pilsen on 18th street where youll find a bunch of vintage shops to look at and taco places to eat at. Paid parking all around. There's free small street parking but I went on a saturday night so it was poppin' and every spot was filled. Oh my gosh I fell in love with this vintage shop. This is the best one on the block. They have sooo much to look at and have actual vintage pieces. Naturally, everything's pretty pricey but I think a lot of the prices are reasonable. They have amazing pieces and staff is really friendly and will help ya out if you have any questions or you're looking for something specific. I was going to get this gorgeous denim jacket but the zipper broke and I didn't wanna go to someone to fix it. Bummer. But I'll definitely be back! read more

The reason I came here was to find gifts for friends, and to my surprise, they had a huge selection of products that might be used as gifts. I was quite grateful to my relative for recommending this place due to the fact that I am having a difficult time coming up with an appropriate gift for that friend of mine. Dresses are among those available at the store, which I believe she will like. There are also jewelry pieces, bags, and a variety of other items. After all was said and done, I purchased a dress and asked for assistance from one of the staffs. Naturally, some is quite expensive, but I believe that the majority of the costs are reasonable. It's definitely worth time coming here. Perhaps I'll return to this store in the future to purchase gifts for my partner and, of course, for myself. What a lovely little shop! I walked around Pilsen on a Monday evening and I just want to start by saying that I loved this neighborhood. If you're at all familiar with Dallas, it's comparable to Deep Ellum but on a smaller scale. I was kicking myself for choosing a bad day to visit (independent shops and restaurants tend to take their "weekend" on Mondays/Tuesdays), but I was so lucky that Knee Deep happened to be open! If you shop vintage/thrift from time to time, you know that it can be a crapshoot. So while the fact that I found something *perfect* doesn't necessarily mean that you will too, I think it's worth noting. Scoring that great find is so much easier when a shop is well organized and maintains a variety inventory that isn't so large as to make you feel overwhelmed. Bonus: just about everything I saw was under $100, often landing right around $50-$70 (keep in mind that I primarily shopped skirts and dresses, tops and pants could very well be a lower price range). This shop was an amazing find and I couldn't feel more grateful to have visited in a day that they were open. read more

I used to like this shop and but after a series of bad experiences I'm not recommending it and taking my business elsewhere. The staff are frustratingly unhelpful or unprofessionally rude. The shop is also consistently not open during their posted business hours so good luck trying to visit! Be prepared to waste both time and money for parking as they may be unpredictably closed (even if you call ahead). Selling here is likewise difficult: the owner is not reliably there (he's the only buyer) and the staff won't take appointments. In stark contrast the vintage shops up the street are very welcoming and actually open. read more

I'm not a needle in a haystack kind of girl; I don't have the patience to get knee deep in smelly clothing chaos, rooting around for what might be that one great find. Knowing this I planned my tactical assault on Knee Deep. The place is really cool, the clothes are nicely hung, sorted and arranged by style AND by color. I've never understood the logic other stores see in arranging solely by color; if I'm looking for an orange top I don't want to deal with orange dresses, skirts and pants too. I rooted through the dresses in warp speed; I was a little disappointed in the selection of dresses, but it's all about timing I suppose. I did find a dress I liked and headed into one of their cute little dressing rooms to try it on. The dress was just what I needed and reasonably priced. On my way back to the dressing room I caught a glimpse of the back room; it's a vintage housewares haven. I mustered what little self-restraint I have to fight the visions of vintage coffee cups and plates beckoning me. For someone who hates to cook I have a borderline obsession with acquiring housewares. I was tempted by a few items I saw in the glass case, but forced myself to resist the urge to splurge (for now at least). I tried to avert my eyes, but there was cute stuff everywhere! Also, it's damn near impossible to sign a credit card receipt with your eyes closed. Everyone was so friendly, I was warmly greeted, complimented on my purchase and told about a sale they were having later in the week. I love swinging in to this little vintage shop every so often. It's small, but rarely crowded. I appreciate that the clothing is organized by color, and many items-- the skirts, for instance, which I tend to gravitate towards--by waist size. It makes it easy if you don't have a lot of time but want to stop in for a bit to see what's new. It's a nicely curated selection with many beautiful pieces that are vintage, yet, not "costumey". I bought a lovely, 50's cocktail dress in excellent condition for summer dress-up events that cost around $60.00. Everything is clean and well pressed. It's a great place to find a unique dress for special events. They have a small selection of purses and shoes as well as some interesting jewelry pieces. There's also a decent-sized men's section. It's not thrift-store prices. Most of the skirts average around $25 or so. And as I stated earlier, the dress I bought was around $60, which I'd say is about average for most of the dresses. Some cost quite a bit more than that. But, considering you're getting something unique and of high-quality, the prices are actually pretty good. I really do love this store and this doesn't take away from the amazing clothes I got but 2 of the shirts I got from are not vintage tee shirts and were actually free people tee shirts that I found out when my friend was wearing the exact same shirt. The worker also told me that the jewelry cuffling I bought was real silver and I wore it for a week and my wrist turned green. Danger Zone. Seriously, I just simply don't have the budget to love this place so damn much. Even though their prices are fantastic (I mean really, excellent buys for the quality and condition of the clothing/accessories), I want to stuff a suitcase (vintage, preferably, top shelf on the right) with all of the wonderful items and flee to an unknown destination to conduct my very own fashion show. However, I'd want to pay for all of them (shoplifting=not cool), so I'd need to spend a pretty penny...even cheap stuff adds up when you want ALL of it. Sigh, never enough time. I want to touch/feel/look at each piece at a painstaking pace...imagining each unique possibility, every little vintage dream of mine coming true in my glitter-filled head.... Dresses, skirts, shoes, pants, jackets suitcases, necklaces. EVERYTHING I've ever wanted, all in one little shop. At decent prices. And it don' smell like mothballs, thank GOD. What separates Knee Deep from other vintage shops is that the owners, Carlos and Trent, aren't content with having the same inventory that every other vintage shop in Chicago has. There's more than just the usual ancient t's, '70s and '80s "me too" hipster staples, and the occasional knick knack. C&T are master scavengers and it shows in their wares, which change frequently and regularly. They've got perfectly preserved dresses from the '40s to the '80s, an ever-rotating selection of men's and women's jeans, cords, and the like, sweaters and tops and jackets and whatever else is season-appropriate. Pricing is extremely reasonable. The true vintage clothing is, justifiably, a little more pricey than the less rare 'contemporary' vintage, but not unreasonably so. Already C&T have built up a following and its not unusal for customers to check out the racks a few times a week. There's a very small inventory of furniture - clearly not their focus. Last time I checked, there is a distinct difference between vintage and thrift.. and this is sooo vintage. Maybe some of the negative reviewers might want to check out Unique instead ;). Anywho.. My friend and I had a mission of finding the perfect dress for a speakeasy night.. and Knee Deep did not disappoint. Found the perfect dress.. and you could tell is was freshly cleaned and pressed. When we were checking out - the clerk told us about how the dress had needed some repairs, and the seamstress who lovingly restored it.. plus gave us her card for any repairs we might need down the road. Someone hand me some tissues, because I seriously got misty eyed when I walked in here. This shop is the definition of a gem. I was walking along 18th Street when it started to rain, so I ducked into Knee Deep, saw a bright light, and heard angels singing. Once the temporary blindness subsided, I saw the vintage gods beckon me into the aisles of denim vests, lacy dresses, soft crew neck sweaters, and everything else that you can think of that is holy and vintage. Yes, I had an out-of-body experience. All the merch here is quality, and really well-priced. You won't find anything from Forever 21 or H&M here. Not that those places are bad, it's just not what I'm looking for in a vintage shop. I mean, I wish I could take everything off of the hangers, throw it into a huge pile, jump in and roll around. They have an awesome collection of dresses, sweaters, vests, boots, belts, bags, hats...The list goes on and on and on and on. I was perusing the hats when the cutest and sweetest friggin' dog on the planet sauntered out from the back and checked me out. If I could add an extra star for that dog, I would. The people at Knee Deep seem to get the whole "look-at-me-shoppin'-vintage" mentality as well as everything was super-reasonably priced. Beyond dresses there are plenty of skirts, pants, coats, shirts, shoes, bags, and jewelry to keep you busy for awhile. But wait, there's more! Enter the back room for vintage kitchen items (Why wasn't I setting up house in the 1970's? Seriously, I love the color "avocado"). I go to pay and - oh, crap - there's more stuff under the glass up at the register! Two clutches later and it's time to go. For real. I came into this place looking for a few touch ups for my wardrobe. I had made a bee line straight for the shoes considering my black chucks are slowly making their way to the retirement stage and my feet should look upgraded but still have character. Is it sad that I look at people's shoes after making initial lookover? Well I do. Though they may not have boots that are snap-ons (my Holy Grail), they do have a small selection of nice shoes that can make an evening ensemble look delightful. Clothing wise, the store is very well organized. Like styles are grouped together- tshirts, short sleeves, sweaters, long sleeved flannels, jackets, jeans, dresses, short shorts etc. The only knocks on this joint are really nitty. Being a man of small stature, mediums look somewhat big on me and a small just fitting me 'right' sometimes. I am not alone though since mostly everyone who swings in here is the same way. Many items that I wanted to buy were large or medium. You can find the smalls, treat them like a treasure. The other knock is that the place is small. I like this but also hate it. Smallness gives a sense of exclusivity, some sense of 'elite-ness.' You can go through this place in about five minutes for a quick one-see, or forty minutes thinking of what else you would wear with whatever. You can easily blow through two hundred bucks if you aren't careful. 5 stars for the repeated trips here. Also, they take credit though they prefer cash. It's a cute store, things are relatively organized (but the back clothing is kind difficult to maneuver through), I liked looking at all the decor and housewares. But the clothes. The clothes are really overpriced for not terribly high quality vintage and some things which had serious wear marks. I was completely dissatisfied especially after seeing all the reviews. I actually went to a thrift store across the street which wasn't spectacular but had some really fun stuff, I got a 50's fixer upper dress for 5 bucks. I went to an art show and sale this Friday here. Everything was 25% off and there was a rack full of $2 items, including an adorable little purple jacket from the 60's. So, I wasn't going to spend any money. at all. I was just coming to see some art and have some free wine. and beer. Well, I started playing dress up with Carlos, the owner. And he got me into a priceless 50's Bo Peep dress with a little white hat, shoes and gloves. And I couldn't just leave it there. It was like a puppy at an animal shelter, just looking up at me with those cute little eyes, I mean red sash... So now I have a new outfit. But it was on sale. The selection in here is amazing. Beautiful selection of full skirts, vintage 1960s-1970s kimonos, and embroidered bags. Continuing my Fourth of July long weekend visit, I was pleasantly surprised by the treasures this small unassuming place held. The store attendant, a man with a blond man bun was very kind and gracious. He was more than happy to let me try things on and chat about the unique items that the store employees sourced from all around the city. Much better shopping experience than I'm used to from New York City. Left happy with a 1960s statement brass snake belt and a 1950s Milkens wool plaid skirt. I vaguely recall that the last time I was at Knee Deep, there were some housewears. Mugs, lamps, stuff like that along the west wall. Am I wrong? I kinda hoped there would be some of that. What they lack in stuff they make up for in clothing finds. It's not very big, but that means their stock is more selectively chosen. In my few times cruising through, I found two dresses I fell in love with, both priced very reasonably for their ages and conditions - something that's been increasingly rare in the more recent of the 15 years I've been shopping for vintage clothes. Regardless, I was there on a cufflink/neck tie mission. Turned out, the vintage stores on 18th had been strip mined in the name of holiday parties and nary a cufflink remained. I did manage to find two cool ties, one lovely hair scarf and one band recommendation from the cool guy working the counter, however. Knee Deep is worth the haul. There's a coffee shop on the way and another thrift store across the street making it even more worth the trip. Check it out, you're almost guaranteed to find something. read more

Srsly you guys, this is the best vintage store I have evAR visited in my entiiiiire life. I really think it is. Okay, deep breath. So, I'm over a size 12 (right now, and for most of my life). Being a curvy girl and being a huge fan of vintage fashion...the locus of success in these two concepts is miniscule. Not. Easy. To. Make. Great. Scores. (in fabrics that are not hideous swelter-weight polyester) Anywho, when I walked into Knee Deep Vintage and met Carlos, the owner, I struck paydirt. He told me that he shops for everyone, and I believe him. The men's and women's sections were both large, well-organized, excellent. I saw sizes from 0 to at least 30 in women's. Yes, really. Carlos sized me up and found 4 dresses for me that were my exact preferred time period, length, style, and close to my size (based on a quick glance--no measurements). And he did it all while walking around the store and chatting me up! It was as if his fingers had magnets--he plucked these dresses in moments from different places that were not labelled in any way I could see. He just remembered where he had put them, instantly! When he brought them over to me, he noticed that one had a few wrinkles, and he steamed it for me lickity-split so that I could see it in its best light. The one that I bought was a never-worn late 50s/early 60s cocktail dress with original tag still intact...and it was only $24! Unreal. The store also had shoes, boots, jewelry, glasses, buttons (I scored a Daley Sr. campaign pin), housewares like glasses and ashtrays, and a bit of furniture. 5 stars--Carlos and the staff's customer service, along with their selection, were dreams come true. read more

I came in there thinking I would be literally be knee deep in vintage... there are clothes there from literally late 90's. Is that vintage? The store opened late. I got there early around 11:30a so I crossed the street to the other vintage shop. Around 12:16p Sunday the doors were not open still. Professionalism is lacking, person there smiled at you but that's as far as it goes with customer service. The shoes were not in good condition (i know, this is a resale shop most should be used) they should have a standard on how worn out their items should be, seemed that these items you can find in the village thrift store, but they charge you so much more. The store itself is organized, right side men's, left side women's. Back end accessories. The accessories department is lacking, maybe five hand bags and a couple of scarves. I wouldn't be so inclined to comeback. It's like the Platos closet of the Chicago hipster generation. read more

Knee Deep is a vintage-lover's dream! The store is well-organized and packed with items without being cluttered. For example, I have seen rompers in ever color, size, and pattern, 80s button-down tops in every-color scheme, windbreakers in all weights, etc. I've seen items here as old as the 30s in good condition! The clothes here may be a little more expensive, but I appreciate the fact that the stock is so well-curated. Tip: they have sales during the Friday Art Walk evenings in Pilsen! Sooo, Not too crazy about the Knee Deep, Mostly because the pricing. I like my vintage a lil cheaper. Its just a lil bit more than the average bear a lil bit...There is a wonderful selection on airline bags, miniature mugs, eclectic hats and stellar vintage t shirts but again i think id rather digs through Goodwills t shirt bin and pay 3 bucks than 30 for a used grand dad tank. Also im into vintage dresses and this section was lacking for me. The staff is wonderful and very helpful. For vintage gifts A Ok but i will have to hope to get a lil luckier next time round. read more
