I was SO excited to visit this location as I am always visiting Buffalo in every city I end up in. It's tradition. I walked in for two seconds and promptly walked right out. This place is the size of a shoebox. It cannot handle both buying and selling without squishing customers in like sardines. When I visited it was so crowded you couldn't even walk in the door. The buying counter at the front creates a giant traffic jam with people and bags of clothes, people were spilling out. I was really disappointed. I really wanted to see what they had and get something. But I was not about to have to push through a crowd. Bummer. read more

This is a super nice thrift store! Very friendly and helpful staff, great selection. I went looking for more summer clothes, the shorts selection wasn't super big but the rest of the store was great. Got two great pairs of jeans that fit me perfectly for ~$20 each (levi and wrangler), and a fresh pair of air force 1s that also happened to fit me for $65. Definitely not as cheap as the village discount, and a smaller selection, but some great finds. I would go back for sure. read more

As an avid thrifter, I generally spend my retail therapy hours in large thrifts that are not boutique-style in nature. I find the best values in such places and generally do not find a lot at higher-end resale establishments. Buffalo Exchange was a pleasant exception to my typical experience when I recently stopped in on a whim. They really do have a nice selection of clothing, shoes and accessories. I felt their pricing was attractive. I found a pair of 90's pants for a whopping $6! I was stoked. Though I did not buy a purse, I saw several I adored and none were priced beyond what this uber-frugal gal will spend on a pre-owned purse. The young woman who rang up my beloved purchase was so upbeat and friendly. I will certainly come back in the future when I have more time to peruse the racks of treasures waiting to be unearthed by the perfect new owner. read more

I've been to many Buffalo Exchange shops all over the country. Charlotte, Columbus, Phoenix, and this one, to name a few. I always love browsing around, especially with friends, and even more so when it's a different location than the one I normally go to. That being said, when I lived down the street from this one, I shopped here regularly and when I come to Wicker Park while visiting Chicago, I make it a point to stop in. I always, ALWAYS, find something. The place is kept clean and organized, there are several changing rooms in the back, and the staff is really friendly. It's a small space so it can get packed rather easily. Nonetheless, it's worth a trip. One my last visit I found a beautiful dress, and my friend found a cute romper. I still have items that I got from here over the years. If you're like me and find thrifting and pursuing through stores like this fun or relaxing, stop here for sure. read more

I've been here a few times as a shopper and now as a seller. As a shopper I feel that their clothes can be really over priced. Like you're better off going to an actual thrift store or buying new for what they're selling items for. And last time I went there I bought a dress to wear to a festival and as soon as I got home the strap snapped and wasn't reparable. So money completely waisted and so much for their policy if not taking damaged items... I've also purchased some of their new store brand jewelry items there and they broke after 1-2 wears. As a seller: It's just as bad. I went in there and waited my turn there was no clear sign in process or signage that directed me where to go or who to talk to. When I finally got to the buyer they took not a single item out of a huge bag. And I know how these places work and I wasn't expecting much BUT I was really shocked because everything I brought was in great shape, really trendy items and popular $$ brands. They told me none of the stuff was things they needed but the co worker behind them literally told another customer different in my earshot -items they needed and several of those things were literally exactly what I brought in... So essentially just a huge waste of time to get the runaround. I went to cross roads and they purchased most of my stuff and gave me a really fair trade in value and I was able to get some great stuff for my old items so I'd recommend them over buffalo and their prices were much more reasonable overall. read more

Brought a bunch of stuff in to sell and they only took one thing for $5 which is fine but, when I ended up deciding to take it back, I politely asked the woman at the counter if I could have the item back she wasn't very nice about it. They had taken the bin with my item back to get tagged so she had me wait so she could help other customers and called the person with the bin back to bring the item. As she helped another customer I heard her whisper under her breath to the other person to "get her shirt or whatever." Came off super condescending and rude and like the workers were upset that I was even there. It made me feel super embarrassed and like I was being treated rudely for literally just asking for my item back. I ended up saying something to her before leaving that I've worked in the service industry and it's extremely rude to treat customers that way, but she denied saying something snarky under her breath. Selling: You will have better luck selling your items on Craigslist. They will ask you for your ID. First come, first serve for selling. I brought in purses from Patagonia, Kavu, B Makowsky, and Coach. Items HAVE to be new looking, designer, and less than a year old, or else they won't get a second look here. The staff member only selected the Patagonia purse (retail $70) out of the eight items I brought in to sell. I've been to other Buffalo Exchanges before, I feel like this one in wicker park has been over run by "hispter" or "alternative" people. It seems pretty obvious they're picking clothes they would wear. Trendy clothes are far and few between as these people choosing clothes to buy for the store aren't interested in that. majority of the clothes sold in the store are just junky and over priced, especially since the price isn't competitive with other thrift shops. I brought in two big bags of clothes and watched other people's clothes get sorted through and they would only take one or two items. I thought surely I brought in some really trendy pieces that I bought within the last 2 years that would sell super well. Nope they only took one pair of shoes (Steve madden) for $5.40. I probably should have declined since I probably could've gotten more on Poshmark but I took an Uber from south loop and didn't want to leave empty handed. Yesterday, when we tried to use our Buffalo store credit, there were some complications with the code number. Trendy items and lots of nice sunglasses. The sales associated couldn't have been friendlier. They accept items from any season. Clothing for a creative crowd. Nuetral: I'm older than their target client. Negatives: You can't leave the front of the store until they are some going through items you are attempting to sell. This place is seriously the absolute best, for reference I'm around a 2X/3X, and I have hated thrifting because I never find cute stuff in my actual size, but at Buffalo Exchange I actually found some cute pieces that fit me. The prices are reasonable, they could be a little lower imo but it still beats Urb*n O*tf*tt*rs across the street. My one and only complaint is that it's extremely crowded and loud, warranted I came at what might've been peek hour on a weekend but I had to quit before I was ready to because I just needed a sensory break. I could've spent way longer in there but again it was so loud and crowded which isn't great, especially in pandemic times. I think they should start limiting how many people can be in the store at a time. read more

Came to this Thrift/discount store over the weekend and out of the Thrift stores in the area this one was my favorite to go too. This place has everything (mostly clothing related) in a discount store. Most of the stuff is pretty costly but man does alot of this stuff look really attractive. A gentleman spent $515 dollars here during our visit which I think is unheard of. It's tough to walk around in because merchandise is somewhat in your way so expect to bump into alot of people so I recommend you come here on a day it isn't busy. read more

So, so sad to do this because this place used to be amazing... I don't know who exactly is at fault (the buyers, the sellers, Ebay?), but this neighborhood has changed for the absolute worst and it has drastically effected this store's merchandise. This place shills more and more of its crappy made in China brands (the new items with blue tags), plus Ann Taylor, Forever 21, and Gap. I'm not kidding. There are trace amounts of Urban Outfitters to appease what little hipsters are left in the neighborhood, but that brand has been sucking for a while too. I pop-in (rarely) to try and find some vintage pieces. They used to separate the vintage into it's own section which I appreciated, but that's long gone. I used to find so many unique pieces here. So this place is right next door to a Crossroads trading. It takes all your cheapie things, remember that they may not take your branded things, better to take those over to Crossroads. That being said, they have really cute things, and I went there to get some stuff for Halloween. Ive sold things there as well, and they give you a small markup if you choose store credit over cash. I think they mark down about 30% of the item you are selling, to ensure that it covers the cost of being in the store. But hey, cash is cash right? I would say go here if you wanna get some cheapie things for holidays and costumes. I would go to Crossroads for branded clothes etc, and there are a number of vintage stores in the area for bags and shoes. I come here mostly to sell stuff. read more
