We came to Chicago for a few days and wanted to pick up some nice crystal jewelry and walked into this store. It's amazing how many beautiful pieces were inside. Helen was very nice and her service was incredible. The value for all of the hand made artisan crystal necklaces was unmatched anywhere within the downtown Chicago area. This will be a stop on every trip we make back to the Windy City! read more

This was the absolute coolest store we went to in Chicago. Helen was so kind and helpful. There were multiple customers in the store and she made us feel like we were the only ones there. The selection of crystals and jewelry was fantastic and prices were incredibly reasonable. Between the incredible fossils, crystals, and jewelry, there is something for everyone. I walked out with two ammonite fossils, a moonstone ring, two crystal eggs, and a few tumbles, and was shocked by how reasonable everything was! Thank you, Helen, for making our trip to Chicago so fun and memorable. I will definitely be back next time we are in town! read more

This shop was recommended to us by our waiter during brunch. I just HAD to stop by since it was only a 5 minute walk. As soon as you enter the store you are welcomed with the best energy. The atmosphere is so peaceful & literally feels like you entered a whole other world. The shop is not huge but it is absolutely perfect when not too busy. The shop owner is the sweetest human EVVVER, who is VERY good at reading energy. I want to go back there asap just to be able to have another conversation with her, & of course support the shop. If you enjoy exploring fun shops & supporting small businesses, this one's definitely for you!!! So much variety & such a helpful heart, making sure everyone feels heard & has the assistance they need. The owner also gifted us "good luck" stones & picked each one out individually, explaining why. Thank you!!!!!!! Can't wait to be back. read more

So I came to Chicago on business and I've met some wonderful, deeply spiritual people along the way. As a gesture of affection I wanted to get them a little something, if at all to say thank you for making my stay lightweight and filled with sunshine. I was aware of Alchemy Arts as I have purchased from them for almost 15 years), but I was also looking for a store that like Namaste in New York sold mainly and only stones of all shapes and sizes. A Google search turned up Precious Possessions and on the Loop to boot! I thought, why not? I can literally walk to it from my hotel, look around, get what I need, and hopefully not get lost among the crystals as I tend to be when I go to Namaste (although in Namaste's defense, it offers a much wider variety of items, a hybrid of Alchemy Arts, Tibetan store, and basically anything and everything for the spiritually minded). Reader, the store is a small rectangle sandwiches between 20 and 30 Michigan Ave in front of Millenium Park. It is so unassuming you will walk right past it. Had it not been for a kind gentleman and lady I would have missed it as I thought it was located inside 20 Michigan, as a store inside a mall. So I walk in front of it and took a shot at their window: an enormous globe that cpuld only be of quartz greeted me, but I wasn't looking for it, so I focused on the smaller tumbled stones that once you walk in are on the left side near the entrance. Knowing my way around the types of stones for a pouch I collected a few (clear quartz, rose, amethyst, and two lovely hot pink agates that just said "Take meeeee and take my ultraviolet version!" Which I did.) A slight frown on the overall experience was the price label on these stones which I have found in the middle of the ultra pricey New York City or San Francisco for half if not a fifth of the price. Can we say overpriced? Tumbled stones normally cost in the vicinity of 2-4$ depending on type. A clear quartz usually goes for about $2-2.50; less if you go to a place like Rockstarr which is more like a stone outlet. Same price range goes for rose quartz, the fanciest of places will offer them maybe upwards of about 4$. Reader, the clears were a whopping 12$ as were the rose quartz; the tiny ones--merely pebbles and fragments, 4.50$. I can only imagine what the other larger crystals cost. But... I will assume you are paying for location more than stone. Go, but caveat emptor, the store is $$$. read more

When I was a young lass of a ripe 9 years; I learned about fossils from my third grade teacher. I went outside declaring, "I will find a fossil!". Guess what? I did. A small stone with a tiny shell imprint which almost three decades later... I still own. It was at that moment that I realized my soul connection to rocks, gems, mountains, and the earth. I'm always at home in stone/gem/crystal shops which is where Precious Possessions comes into the picture. How does this shop fare? Precious Possessions is located on Michigan Avenue near the heart of The Loop across from Millennium Park. This means parking in the area can be a nightmare but I was visiting from Los Angeles and my boyfriend is a regular at this little shop. I arrived near closing time -- literally minutes before-- and yet was not made to feel like an inconvenience. In fact, I was welcomed by two staff members who smilingly said to let them know if I need help rather than mentioning that they are about to close. Excellent customer service! The shop itself, in terms of real estate, is a long rectangle that may not be big in square footage but packs a lot onto its shelves. From stones, gems, crystals, to vintage and rare jewelry, collectibles, decor, minerals, and fossils... Precious Possessions has a little bit of everything. If you are seeking something 'stand-out' that isn't a sheep-in-the-herd piece; then you will probably find it at Precious Possessions. Quality is clearly a priority at Precious Possessions. Not only are the pieces for sale beautiful... but the store doesn't skimp on the appearance and state of the goods. This place is a great option for gift-giving. My only complaint? Precious Possessions is a bit too pricey. I know equally-valued stores that are less expensive. This is coming from a gal who lives in the most expensive city in the nation (Los Angeles)! Overall, Precious Possessions is a solid spot to find rock-related products in an environment that thrives on customer service. Although you have to make sure to pack a little extra moolah in your wallet... Precious Possessions holds down the fort and is worth checking out. read more

The owner of this cute shop was so sweet and helpful. She helped me find individual crystals based on my growth goals. Additionally she gave me a specific crystal that she felt embodied me as a person during our conversation for free. I 10 out of 10 recommend this place for all of your crystal needs. read more

What a treat! I have walked by this shop so many times with no idea what treasures had been hiding inside. The crystal selection has a wide variety, with also jewelry pieces and other items. Quite literally a gem on Michigan Ave! We were looking for garnet jewelry today for a January birthday. Helen showed us a range of choices in different styles, all gorgeous and very reasonably priced. Her warmth and joy make shopping here a can't-miss experience, whether you're visiting Chicago for the weekend or have lived here for years. She chose energy crystals for us as gifts that were spot-on (and unexpected). We'll treasure our new pieces not only for their beauty, but because of the lovely experience as a whole. Will be coming back again! read more

Precious Possessions is my favorite store in all of Chicago. Located on Michigan, on the East side, it is in the epicenter of where the magic happens. Inside of the store, there is merchandise that has the ability to make anyone happy. I buy twin stones for friends so not only am I able to give a gift, I'm able to receive a gift. Helen, the shop owner is so invested in her customers' well-being. She makes sure everyone is taken care of with absolute precision. She is one of the best people I have ever become acquainted with and this is why I keep coming back to her store. I love Precious Possessions!! I found this magical store earlier this month on one of my weekend trips to Chicago. Helen was so delightful & welcoming, she acknowledged and welcomed each patron and really made herself available. I browsed most of the store to get a feeling of what called to me. As I browsed the many tall shelving sections, one full of larger crystals & stones gave off a strong vibrational energy to me, so much do that I could see the energy. Magnificent feeling & I shared that with her. Helen assisted me in choosing a Kunzite crystal from her wonderful collection. I loved seeing the birds in the rafters and when I spoke a special story to her, one bird flew down and sat there next to us patiently listening to my words, was truly a magical experience and I was so grateful for her wonderful hospitality. I will definitely be back soon for a visit. Many thanks!! Blessings read more

This place is a little treasure. The two ladies I met working there yesterday were just as, or more, incredible than their selection of gems and semi precious stones. Truly a special find. read more

Milan and Helen have been in the rocks and minerals business for 25 years and it shows. This shop is both beautiful and educational. There an incredible selection for every budget and need. From $4,500 meteorites to simple spheres, fossils to museum quality specimens this has it all. Milan is a global collector and always finding something new and interesting. There's a lot tucked away in the display cases and shelves so take your time and look carefully. If you are curious ask and if you're offered help or information accept it. The staff want to make you happy. As a sign of how connected to the earth and natural world this shop is, the have a pet sparrow, Sammy, who visits each evening and creates no mess in return for seed and a warm roost. He also brings gifts of twigs and small pieces of wool, plastic or metal. Other friends of Sammy stop on too on occasions. Let the staff share their knowledge about the energy in stones and their properties and meaning. Rocks have a magical property - they call you and you won't always know why or why not you like them. Even if you don't believe there's nothing like finding complementary stones and seeing how beautiful they look together. The color palette and luster plus veins and layered textures will generate many happy minutes of exploration and discovery. read more

I came upon this "hidden gem" (pun intended) when I was working at an office in the same building a couple of years ago. I loved coming down to this shop on my lunch breaks to look at all the beautiful rocks and chat with the lovely owner. I have purchased several items from this place which now hold a precious part of my rock collection. I have since moved to San Diego, but was back in Chicago last week for a birthday trip. I brought some friends from San Diego to this shop because I remembered how outstanding the experience was. And without fail, we all had a memorable time basking in the energy of this space and the buzz around the beauty of the stones. This place is a literal hidden gem... in fact, we kept referring to the shop as "The Hidden Gem" in the days following our visit. (DBA name change??) Precious Possessions will always be on my go-to list whenever I'm back in Chicago. read more

As an avid crystal collector I have to say that I am a bit stunned by the pricing here! I mean way way overpriced... mind you a lot is on sale but still not a deal. I saw things that they were charging $85 that I have exactly same that I paid $15 for... I mean really off base! Beautiful store, friendly staff, but offensive prices for sure. read more

My husband and I enjoy collecting minerals and fossils, and while we were in Chicago we decided to check this place out. The owners are extremely knowledgeable and attentive without being pushy. My husband purchased a mineral and I purchased a gemstone. They offer custom settings for their gems as well to be made into jewelry. We loved our visit to this shop. They had everything from small minerals to extremely rare specimens, all of which they happily showed us purely because they were proud of their shop. I highly recommend a visit to this place! read more

Amazing staff. They are always so helpful. This is my second trip and I'll be back for all of my precious stone needs. I recently was given an office in which I wanted to cleanse and bring positive energy into. The owner and the personnel were able to help me with my needs and even gifted me some special stones. On a previous visit, I purchased some stones for fertility and healing. I was pregnant within a month. Giving this store and it's staff two thumbs way up! read more

This is the only crystal shop on Michigan Avenue, and if you blink while walking past, you will miss it. I adore this place, and the lady who works there. She is knowledgeable about both the mundane and metaphysical properties of crystals. They have some stunning, high quality specimens in displayable as well as wearable form. There is also something at every price point. You could spend $10,000 here, or $10. I stop in whenever I can, if only to ogle! read more

Very helpful owner and staff. She worked with my 6 year old over his Spring Break weekend and helped him pick out exactly what he wanted (nice fire agate and flourite wishing stone). For 6, he is quite knowledgeable on rocks and minerals and the store and staff was his favorite stop (above the Bean, Field Museum, Lego Store and Disney Stores). Will be a regular visit every time we go up. For the young minecrafters...yes, they have Lapis Lazuli :) read more

Fantastic store, even better staff! I came in looking for a few tumbled healing stones, they offer a buy one get TWO free deal which was awesome. When I got my stones the staff lady asked if I'd like to know more about the ones I choose (if I had the time of course) she told me more which was super helpful and after we chatted she said she liked me and gave me a free stone and a hug--I could not believe such kindness-- I shed a tear after I left. This is so rare in Chicago... Oh, AND they have adorable wild birds that are kind of like their pets and they fly in and out of the store and chirp and watch you while you shop-- haha so cute:) read more

Old school excellence. There is simply no place like this in Chicago. You know something is different here when you see the flocks of sparrows flying in and out of the store. The strong, happy energy of the place guides you inside as if you were coming home. You let the healing power of the stones just kind of wash over you. A piece draws you in, then a momentary pause when you see the price. The owner tells you the piece is on sale and that pause goes away. You connect with one of the owners as if you'd known each other all your lives. You walk out smiling, thinking "This place, this positive energy, this is what we need more of in the world." So you come back. read more

I see all great reviews but I had a totally different experience. I shopped here back in 2014 and bought a pair of medium sized disk shaped earrings. The store associate was very pushy and kept showing things after things. Finally, I decided to go with the earrings because most other designs look very backdated. He charged me $92 for a pair of silver earrings with a tiny garnet on each. Not sure if I received a fair price. Recently, I have noticed the color of the silver getting dark. The associate was telling me the more I buy, the more discount percentage I would get. I wanted to return them but I am not from Chicago area and bought these awful earrings on a business trip so eventually ended up keeping them. read more

I stumbled into Precious Possessions while on an *unexpected (curse you inclement Midwestern winters!) weekend stay in Chicago.
