This fabric store has an assortment of beautiful fabrics from stretchy to natural fibers. Many different prints. You can't go wrong shopping here. It was my first time going after I left that one fabric store in pilsen. I was very surprised. It smells good in the store and everything appears to be clean. Their prices are a bit pricey but they did have some fabrics on sale. I got the chiffon I ended up getting 4 yards and it came out to $26 total. The staff does not speak English and the man that was cutting my chiffon cut a tiny slit then ripped it all the way down. Making the fabric lopsided. That was disturbing. My experience was ok. If Joanns was still open I'd be there but since they're closed this is the next best. read more

New rainbow is really good for beaded fabric, appliqués, and denim. One of the best fabric stores in the city.

Their service is excellent. I had a gift certificate mailed to me to give as a birthday gift. They were very helpful, and prepared and mailed the gift certificate to me promptly. I'm sure the recipient will enjoy shopping for their beautiful fabrics! read more

Very rude and lack of customer service. Spanish owned and they talk ish about you in Spanish. I had to lift many fabrics reels alone. Some fell causing me to break my nail. Therefore I needed help with the last one. The man said in Spanish to his coworker that his grandmother could've lifted that. AND ON JUNETEENTH!! STAY AWAY!!! This is a very nice store. The racist rant about pricing in another review led me to think the fabrics would be expensive but everything is very reasonably priced and the selection is huge. In addition, there are plenty of salespeople -- no waiting for service. I parked on Roosevelt Road but next time I'll check out the free parking behind the store. read more

I've only recently discovered New Rainbow Fabrics, and I have to say they're definitely one of the better in Chicago. The staff is extremely attentive, and for the square footage there is quite a bit of fabric to choose from. My only suggestion would be a better notions section, but there's always JoAnn fabrics for that. read more

This place was awful! The fabrics were all over the floor. The overall appearance of this place was messy and unorganized with limited colors. This place is large with limited staff and only 1 person spoke English, the person who helped me kept going back for someone to answer my questions, very annoying! Came here during Memorial Day weekend and was looking for Chiffon in order to make a dress. I was pleasantly surprised to see the store's selection compared to other stores in the area. A beautiful haven of fabric!!! So much better organized than most of the fabric stores I've been to. Despite being on the smaller side, they have an extensive and beautiful assortment of fabrics (especially if you're looking for velvets, satins, neoprene, and glittering fabric). The fabrics are more special/performative than what you'll find at the Joann's across the street. Great for making something for burlesque, ballroom, drag, eveningwear, etc. But very reasonably priced. Staff is extremely friendly as well. read more

The workers here were SO kind and helpful. I was hoping to find some fabrics for quilting and the cotton selection was extremely limited. So I wouldn't recommend it for quilting cottons. Otherwise they have reasonable prices and tons of beautiful fabrics. read more

I was looking for wool and cotton fabrics. Was there 15 minutes and no one seemed to be working the floor. When I finally found some wool I found someone to cut it. One one final swoop of the place found some gold scrunched fabric with sequins. Great for holidays- just have to decide pants or skirt. They have nice cottons and beautiful evening fabrics. read more

I went to New Rainbow Fabrics yesterday. I had been looking for cheetah/leopard material for costuming. I needed to match some stuff I had bought at a store in Sacramento, but had no idea what type of material it was. I was so surprised by the volume of different materials, the vivacity of the store owners and material support. It had so much that I needed to costume in a very clean and friendly environment. It was worth the trip and I would encourage anyone I know to go down for costuming especially if you need 4 way stretch fabric for costuming. I hope to do most of my material needs for costumes down at New Rainbow Fabric. THANK YOU SO much. When I found a similar yet even better fabric of cheetah/leopard print, I was overjoyed. Fabric lovers, be sure to check out this store! This is a real mom-and-pop local business which charges good prices for superior goods and offers excellent, friendly service. Located just across the street from the indomitable Vogue Fabrics (another hometown favorite of mine), there's no reason not to pop in here for a look when you're doing your fabric shopping in the area. This store is much smaller than Vogue and has less selection, but everything in the store is top-notch and priced fairly. They stock beautiful Italian wool suiting and incredible and unusual special occasion fabrics the likes of which I've never seen before- real "artisinal" fabrics. The store is well-organized and not even remotely cramped, which makes for a very relaxing and sane shopping experience. The owner is really nice, knowledgeable, and helpful. I got an amazing price on some gorgeous cream-colored cashmere coat fabric, and he tossed in a little extra as well (if you want your cashmere, get it soon because prices go up in winter when it's in high demand!) Often when I visit, I'm the only customer in the store- this breaks my heart considering how great this store is. I'd hate to see this place lose out to big national chains that specialize in cheap, cheaply-made fabrics. Chicago needs to keep supporting wonderful little local businesses like this, so definitely consider Rainbow Fabric when you're looking for beautiful, quality material at reasonable prices. read more

I loved this little store. It was super organized and very clean. I do very little garment sewing anymore, I make quilts and do home sewing lately but if I was still making my clothes, I would definitely come here. I loved being able to find 60 inch wide fabric and bought 3 yards of a red and white check for a tablecloth. My husband and I were on the way home from brunch and boy did that coffee hit me. I asked the very polite woman if there was a public bathroom in any of the stores and she said, oh you may use mine even though we do not normally do that. Wasn't that the nicest ever? Be sure to check out this place next time you need some fabric. The place is small but extremely organized, unlike Vogue across the street. The owners are really sweet and will help you find exactly what you are looking for, or recommend where to go if they don't have what you need. I bought some beautiful silk burnout fabric from there the other day and can tell that it is top notch. They don't have many prints but their selection of solids are great and once again, all easy to locate. (Go here for solids and to Vogue for prints, trust me!) You can tell that they spend a lot of time making their space customer friendly and I hope they continue to stay in business despite the fact that there are other much bigger fabric stores in their immediate vicinity. read more

Don't you hate it when you have something in mind and you can never find it? Well, that didn't happen here. Quite the opposite happened here. I had actually given up on Vogue across the street, because their selection on wool fabrics was less than stellar, and I hate to say it, but it smelled like a dirty public restroom. I had to get out of there. This store was right across the street from Vogue and they had more wool fabrics than I could even have imagined. The selection was superb! Plus, the customer service was top-notch! It was a dad and his 2 daughters, and they were incredibly friendly and helpful. The daughters helped carry bolts of fabric for me, and when I accidentally knocked over a bunch of bolts on the floor, they happily came over to pick them up (I helped, of course).Their kindness will definitely keep me coming back. While I was checking out, the family was very personable and talked to me about what I was making. Small talk, yes, but I felt important and valued by them. The dad also knocked off quite a bit from the prices. I got beautiful Italian woolen silk for really great prices. Not that I'm always looking for a deal or to get a discount, but this is definitely another reason I'd go back. Hands down, my best fabric store experience :-) read more

This place looks small from the outside, but they pack a lot in the size of the shop. I was at Fishman's earlier that day and was never greeted there. I was greeted almost immediately here and I was greeted a 2nd time when I made my way to the back of the store. And towards the end of my 1st trip around I was asked again so I was open to purchasing silk organza. She had a few choices and I liked what I saw so I chose to support a small business as the price wasn't bad. I've seen lower prices online but then pay for shipping and being a crafter I am very tactile so I prefer to feel what I'm buying... overall, I'm happy with my purchase and the service. I don't get to the city often, but would consider going to this store again, especially if I was in the area. read more

I sent them a message and oh my goodness they have been so helpful. They were so kind. They FaceTimed me and showed me the fabrics they had I was able to place my order over the phone in a few minutes and they are also shipping me samples of other fabrics that I need for and upcoming project. New Rainbow Fabrics has a great deal of high quality fabrics, embellishments and tools for a great price. If you ever have trouble finding anything, the staff are helpful, knowledgeable, and prompt. The only drawback is that the store is so small. And if I could have given zero stars, I would have. I am a 40 year old African American professional who has been going to fabric stores her entire life. The selection in this small store was reasonable, but I wasn't there long enough to get prices. The low rating is for the obvious discrimination and poor service I received, way disproportionate to the othe customers. I assume it is because I am black. I asked about a specific fabric, was given a vague "over there" when I asked for help. However, when I wandered to find it, the ? manager/owner figure then followed me like a hawk. This place is bomb. I am making a 1920s dress and was looking for some good quality vintage looking wool crepe or flannel. Stopped at Fishmann's around the corner and they had really bad selection. Almost passed this place up because it looks sorta cheesy from the outside but decided to go in in the end. We asked the young guy if they had either flannel or wool crepe and they said no but that they had other wools. we decided to go look and I'm glad we did. Randomly they had some of the most beautiful wools, a great many imported from Italy and England. and the prices were not bad at all!! And I think it's a father running it with his 3 kids or some other family members and they were all super nice and adorable. I'll definitely come back here. I got a happy surprise today. read more

Wow - what a find! We came here after venturing down to Textile Discount Warehouse and finding it closed when they should have been open (some apparent holiday with which I am unfamiliar), and I am so happy we did. They had exactly the fabrics we were looking for (stretch lame in many colors!) and were very friendly and patient with our 8 year old superhero costume designer. It is a fairly small store, but they have a great selection. If you are looking for boring cotton prints, go to JoAnn across the street, but if you're looking for interesting fabrics - neoprene, stretch chiffon, jerseys, wools, tons of sequined fabrics, or stretch lame - this is your spot! Textile Discount was closed (I live a bit far from them as well), so I reluctantly made my way toward Joann. Before I crossed the street though, I saw New Rainbow, and I'm so glad I decided to walk in. They have a really great selection (thoughtful, even), a wonderfully kind and friendly staff, and organized shelves.
