Christmas order for my SIL. In love with #HeatherRoss
    Angela S.

Love love love love love. That's five loves! A 6th love is deserved for getting my fabric order sent on time to my SIL on time for Christmas. I shopped and shipped everything directly from their website and never had to pick up the phone once! Oh, make that a 7th love for carrying Heather Ross fabrics. I'm obsessed with #HeatherRoss. I love to sew. I am crafty, and I have a huge love (can you tell?) with fabrics! Thanks to Evanston Stitchworks, you'll find really fun and unique designs at their shop (currently available online). This isn't your typical fabric store. They support really cool independent designers and quirky fabrics for quilting and making clothes...well for sewing anything really. They also offer knitting supplies and all the books you might need to learn how to sew or knit. Evanston Stitchworks also offers many crafty classes (currently virtual). A few years ago I took their beginning knitting class. For some reason my brain gets all discombobulated when I try to knit, but the class was really fun. The owner was patient and kind and did everything she could to help me fix my mistakes along the way. Everyone else knocked it out of the park, so it's just not something I'm good at. I'm so glad this small local business exists, and I'll continue to purchase fabric from them. Speaking of fabric, don't you just love the designs I picked out for my two little nieces? They are Heather Ross designs, and my SIL is planning to make dresses for them. Can't wait to see how they turn out!

Evanston Stitchworks is a delightful yarn and fabric store, with a versatile selection of yarns, fabrics and classes. The owner, Amalia, has created a very welcoming space and encourages her customers to explore both their interests and passions regarding their craft of choice. From free drop-in knitting/ stitching meets to offering wool spinning classes, in keeping with the likes of a Washington Irving tale, you will be sure to find something new and wonderful in this place. Additionally, Amalia supports and sells yarn, made by locally sourced wool and cotton companies, such as Stonehedge Fiber Mill. I highly recommend Evanston Stitchworks, as it is stores like this that make Evanston a wonderful and unique place to live.

After a summer of fixing things and…read morea bathroom renovation I was reading to stop pouring money into my house...and then my kids blinds ALL broke at the same time. On top of that I decided our old window treatments weren't quite right for our new gorgeous bathroom so reached out to my trust decorator for recommendations. She said she's had nothing, but great experiences with Gotcha Covered...and looks like (based on the stellar reviews) that many yelpers agree. I called last Monday and found time on a Saturday morning for a sales rep (Jay) to stop by. Saturdays are ideal for my work schedule, although when he stopped by at 10am I had 3 kids I had to kick out of their rooms (especially the teenager) so he walked into a bit of craziness, but didn't seem bothered by it. Within an hour we chose hunter douglas room darkening shades for my kids rooms, as well as a custom made silhouette window shade for our bathroom. My decorator facetimed to help us pick a color and fabric for the window, which ended up being a quick 5 min call. We were able to match all the shades to the existing trim in all the rooms and then Jay was off. Jay promised a quote by Monday, but delivered it Saturday afternoon. While pricey it ended up being much less than I expected (also included a designer referral discount) and I"m really happy with everything we ordered. I did think about shopping around, but decided to just go with Gotcha Covered based on the stellar reviews, great service from Jay and the price seemed fair (even chatgpt agreed :)). They required a 50% deposit to place the order and promised to deliver/install in 4-6 weeks. I'll update my review after installation, but I'm happy so far!

Gotcha Covered was professional every step of the way from the initial phone call, visit to the showroom, in home consultation with Bret, to the installation. The installers were very respectful and hauled away our old blinds. The light filtering blinds in the family room make the room fresh and modern. The darkening blinds in the bedroom look great and have enhanced our quality of sleep. This company delivers everything promised and more. You won't be disappointed with their service.

I thought about getting a new piece of furniture, but knowing that redoing our master bedroom is on my list of home projects thought I should hold off. At first the rip didn't bother me, but then it got bigger and bigger. It probably didn't help that my children kept sitting right on top of the rip. Sigh... Finally i couldn't handle looking at it and reached out to my decorator to see if we could get it reupholstered or if she could help me find a new piece of furniture. She suggested getting someone to sew the rip. She said it wouldn't be perfect, but would hold me over until I was ready for the rest of the room. We had just finished a bathroom remodel and think she was well aware I was over pouring money into the house for awhile. I did request a quote on Yelp and Padi responded right away. They confirmed they could fix the rip for $225, but warned me it wouldn't be perfect. We set a time for them to come by the next week and they showed up right on the dot. I showed them the rip and they looked skeptical that they could fix it, but got right to work and 30 minutes later it wasn't perfect (as they claimed), but it was SO much better...and well worth $225! My biggest mistake was not calling them right when it started ripping because I think then it would have been even less noticeable. I"ll definitely reach out to them directly in the future for any furniture restoration needs. They were responsive, reliable and did exactly what they did they were going to do. In fact, the finished product was even better than I expected!

From the second I walked in, I was engulfed by a most delightful smell, perhaps a candle burning somewhere? I was greeted by the owner's assistant, Kate, who gave me an overview of the shop and some of the classes they offer in the back, like coptic bookbinding, collage, crafting, and self-motivation classes. They also have a meet up group called The Grown*Up Girls Club where you can meet up with other like-minded individuals and explore new art/craft/maker techniques. The Club meets the second Sunday of every month. The Collage Cafe is a newer business located in an adorable corridor mixed with other art-inspired shops. You can go door to door and visit each one while you're at it! Can't wait to stop back in.
