I've never had anything but great experiences with them; real low pricing on 11 X 17 color copies, large-format signage (including vinyl) and discounts if you add your logo to your posters (or link your site to theirs). I say they're truly the best place in town for bands and musicians to get their promo stuff done. I went to this place with an emergency situation where I needed to get some 8x10 glossies printed the same day, for an audition coming up the next day. All I had was a jpeg file that was the wrong size to be printed out to 8x10. I had gone to another place the day before & they'd told me I'd have to get another jpeg from the photographer in order to do it. Didn't have time for that so I popped in here as a last resort. A very nice employee named Jeff told me that nothing was impossible & he was The Fixer. Turned out to be true!! He worked his tech magic and I wound up getting the prints I needed, in the right size, for a great price and they looked beautiful! The second time I went to Quartet Copies, I needed 35 copies of my resume and to send a fax. While making the copies, I had run out of paper, so they found me paper that matched it to mine. Until today, my only experience with Quartet Copies was purchasing course material packets for classes at the beginning of each quarter. It wasn't something I looked forward to doing, but long lines always moved fast here. Fast forward to today when my scanner decides to stop working and I had some paperwork due. A quick Google search told me that 1) the Evanston Public Library has a free fax machine, and 2) Quartet also had a fax machine. Well, the library one was maybe 3 decades old, and was not working properly. I hustle over to Quarter, and am helped by Stephen (Steven?) the superstar! At first, he tried to fax my stack of papers. When that wasn't working, he photocopied them onto their paper to see if that would make the fax go through. Nope. Then, he asks if I would like to get the documents scanned and sent via email, which is all I wanted to do in the first place (stupid home scanner). This solution would be super fast and super cheap ($5 total, as opposed to the $3 first sheet and 75c each additional sheet for the long-distance fax). He asked me to log-in to my email while everything was being scanned, attached the pdf file once complete, and voila... paperwork complete and sent in time. Swipe the CC, pay $5, and I was on my way. Next time I have any printing/scanning/faxing/etc needs, I'll visit Quartet in a flash. They're super friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and make life a lot easier! read more

I've been meaning to write a review of Quartet for over a year now, and keep forgetting. Getting a delivery today, immediately after the holiday, reminded me of how fantastic I think this business is. Our office uses Quartet for all of our big projects, fliers, handouts, etc, and I've never had anything but a good experience. They have quick turnaround, send us plenty of proofs, the work is always good, and delivery is timely. In the 2+ years I've been using them for both professional and personal projects, I've never had any problems. I would recommend them to anyone. And, they offer a nice Wildcard discount. read more

I hate Kinkos, so I was really happy to find this place so close to home. until they messed up a big order of mine. How does a print shop accidentally print letters on the wrong side of irreplaceable letterhead?? The entire project was screwed up, and they weren't even that apologetic. they just asked me to bring over more letterhead, like it wasn't a big deal. Quartet has always been my place of choice to bring my work in to be cropped. On top of that, I've referred many people to there for copying. I would have kept it at one star for my most recent experience where one of the managers of the place, Victor, ruined my $500 jobs by sloppily cropping the entire thing and in a haste. Keep in mind, there are CROP MARKS on the piece to tell this guy where to cut!!! So, go there for copying but I would caution going there to get your work cut to size. However, I went in to talk to the owner about this the next day since the ruined job basically means I have to reprint everything again -- letterpressed, 3-colored. The owner was EXTREMELY nice and understanding. Wanting my business again (as I've always brought my work in to be trimmed to size and have referred people to go there for copying), he paid me back for the printing cost in order for me to print it again. It was a costly but the right thing to do and I appreciate him taking it on. He also said to bring the work back in to get it re-cut again, which I will, on good faith that the next person I deal with will know how to cut and cut well. Overall, I do think that this place has great customer service and I appreciate the owner's actions in response to this unfortunately event. read more

Their printing service cheap but it takes them a few days to have course packets ready. Kinko's has always given me a one day turnaround time and it's honestly not that much costlier. Also they have a website that they NEVER EVER update! For some reason UPS sent my package to them. On their website their closing time is 9pm Mondays-Fridays. So I walked half a mile there only to find lo and behold THEY CHANGED THEIR HOURS!!! They now magically close at 6pm instead of 9pm. It is such a hassle for people to go out of their way to the store only to find it closed without warning. YOU HAVE A WEBSITE SO PLEASE USE IT!!! It's honestly not that hard to update your hours online and it'll save people a lot of time. read more

I wanted to print a picture in a non-standard large size: 25''x50''. None of the regular picture printing places or online services would do it, so I went over to Quartet. I received fast and friendly service, the print quality was excellent and price was very reasonable. The person that helped me even took a look at the file to see if the image needed to be cropped or adjusted before printing (without me asking). My poster was printed right away and he also trimmed the paper edges. All in all, very happy with my experience. read more

Extremely rude people who are not helpful. Tried to print a poster - guys makes me drive out there 20 mins and then says they cannot print it out for 2 days! Then he says he won't plug in my USB MyBook because it was too hard for him - all it needed was a power outlet such as the one behind him! I had some great service here. Had a special project I was working on making some dvd case covers and disk labels, they printed beautiful professional looking copies and very cheaply too. They even helped me format my files so they would print perfectly onto the circular dvd labels. They did the work themselves, said it might cost like 20 dollars, but only ended up costing 7 so bonus for that! These guys are really good and what they do and was very happy about the outcome. I did notice a lot of reviews talking about the really long lines of northwestern kids getting course packets but it seems they have taken care of that by having a separate line for course packets so I didn't have to wait through all that. Lastly, they also bound a big script for me and the Binding was really well done and cheap as well. read more

If you are a patient and forgiving person, this is the place for you. They will get your order right eventually. While the staff is generally friendly, they don't seem to be very good at their jobs. I shouldn't have to explain mailmerging to the people doing it for me. I would also assume that knowing where the address goes on a postcard is a prerequisite for employment at a copy/print place, but apparently not. Like every Northwestern student, I went here at the start of each quarter to pick up "course packs" (or were they course *packets*?). You're met with ridiculously (but inevitably) long lines when this happens - I always felt bad for customers from the real world who probably had no idea why they suddenly had to wait 20 minutes to get to the front! There's really no way to be strategic about getting your course packs. I've tried going at all different times of the day, and there were always lines. Try half an hour until closing time for your best chance at a less painful wait time, though. The people at Quartet are super fast, but my only complaint is the cost of some of these course packs. You should not have to pay over $50 for a bundle of copied pages, but sometimes, unfortunately, you don't have a choice. read more

There were two people who bothered helping me out. Both of them looked alike. One girl. One guy. Glasses. Both probably had facial hair. Condescending. The guy was more helpful. If I have shit to print and I don't know what I'm doing, it's quite obvious why I would require printing services. Not appreciative of the eye-rolls, especially from a zit ridden pale chick with four eyes and a confidence issue hiding behind a counter. It's something I don't even get at Kinkos. So, if the McDonald's of printing services treats me better, why should I go here? I'm not going to ever again. No big deal. read more

While I got a print that would suffice my needs for the day, I probably won't be returning unless I have to. (There are only so many print shops around). Their paper options are limited compared to other places for larger format prints. (13x19) and I've had better results elsewhere. I would also like to mention that this place is gross. I understand the business is on a campus with lots of traffic, but it looked like no one had swept, cleaned (emptying garbages) or organized anything in weeks and that was at 9am. It was a total mess. I shouldn't have to walk through scraps of paper and dead leaves all over the floor. The staff aren't exactly rude, but moody. My printing request seemed like an inconvience to them, and when I disagreed with how they printed one of my files, they acted like I was an idiot. I'm a digital designer and know how to set up files so I know what to expect. Better training, and a week long closing to organize would do them well. read more

Update: Chris, one of Quartet's owners, reached out to me in a Yelp message regarding my review. He apologized for my experience and explained he wasn't sure how the associate calculated the cost when I came in to scan my documents. He said it definitely shouldn't have been $14.00 and reassured me that down the road he would make sure the employees know how to properly charge for having something scanned. He also refunded me a full $14.00. I really appreciate him reaching out and refunding my money. As a Northwestern student coming here only to buy course packets, this store has been my only experience at print shops. I really hate having to come here at the start of each quarter. The lines are super long regardless of the time of day, and the staff is actually quite rude. The first time I came here, I was asked for the course number and the name of the professor, neither of which I knew because it was a class I picked last minute. All I knew was the title of my class which I thought would be enough for them to find the appropriate course packet. You would think all the information about courses, and professors would be computerized. Apparently not, the girl rolled her eyes at me, and didn't offer to let me use the computer to look it up until I asked. In addition, I think the prices are ridiculous for a packet of copied paper. It's kind of stupid when a course packet costs more than the books for the class. I had to pay $30 for a packet that was thinner than the assigned book for the class (it was an actual book, not a textbook). I felt so bad for the kids taking Orgo because they had to drop about $100 for their course packets. As I stated earlier, I really hate coming here. read more

I love Quartet as far a copy places go! I've needed to print my portfolio out a few times, and every time they've been more than helpful, even printing out a "rough copy" just to make sure I'm satisfied with the quality. They're very quick too - I've never had to wait more than a couple of hours (usually it's done on the spot) for them to print, trim and bind a few copies of the portfolio. The girl who was "helping" me would sigh and roll her eyes ever time I asked a question, when they were unable to do what I need (which they said on the phone they could do) I suggested trying something to get it to work, I was giving the impression that they did not want to put in any extra effort to help a paying customer. Really hit or miss. I've experienced better; however, they have NU students over a barrel because they're the only place in town. Their capabilities are fine; the problem is, they have a very, very high turnover of employees. These employees all seem clueless and LAZY with no problem-solving ability whatsoever. I have been using Quartet Copies for a few years now to print my self published zines and comics. Anyone that has ever taken care of my orders (especially Ray) has been extremely attentive to all my requirements for every project's final outcome. I even think they're prices (at least, for my purposes) have been the most reasonable from all the printers I've used in Chicago. They do have a bit of a wait sometimes for larger orders (a day at most) but that's understandable since they are a small shop. If you are doing a large printing job, just don't wait until the last minute and expect to have them print in 30 minutes. Another piece of advice: I've read on here some complaints about tech issues that result to staff seeming "uncooperative". My advice for people who come in with even slightly larger or complicated print orders: make sure everything within your content is how you want it (right resolution, size, format, registration, etc...) and then have all your files organized and labeled on a USB. 9 times out of 10 (if not, 10 out of 10) that will make it less likely that you'll be unhappy with you're final print order or have to wait longer to do it right a second time-- and that is with any printer, not just them. read more

Had them do a binding job for a school project that was 21 pages long. They botched it, some booklets had two pages of the same child (each child made a page with photos and fun facts), some booklets had children missing. E-mailed and got a response from James that essentially blamed me with absolutely no thought given at all to even the possibility they'd made an error. I had checked and rechecked these booklets no less than three times as having a child's page missing just wouldn't do. A company that can't even fathom making a mistake and quickly blames the customer then offers to CHARGE THEM MORE to fix the problem is ridiculous in this day in age, especially when there are so many other print/copy options out there. Way to go Quartet! UPDATE: James e-mailed me back and told me he should have called as he wasn't trying to blame me, and he explained that he did look in the bins and around the binding area for the missing pages but hadn't found them.
