When I mentioned I needed pre cut table cards written on, though they do not provide-this service, the guys suggested a calligraphy artist might be a good route, which is what we did (search write by Mike (Calligraphy) in chicago). I was recommended this place by a buddy whose main selling point seems to be that it was a local business. Recommendations like that always make me weary because I fret over if the person is making a political statement at the expense of good work. Now, I'm ALL for supporting local businesses, but not at the expense of quality. If I can get a better job at a big-box store, that's where I will go. I was so delighted to discover that to the Copy Room does fantastic work at great prices. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful on top of just being good guys. I do a sizable amount of printing, but I didn't want the size of my order to influence how they treated me as a customer and I didn't want to risk the quality of a large order on people I didn't know. So, my first printing job for them was small. Just a few small laminated posters and a couple page handout. Within an hour of receiving my order, they contacted me with a small typographical error they had found in my order to see if I wanted to correct it before going to print. That is exactly the kind of attention to detail you want out of a printing service. It made me wish that typo wasn't just a bonehead gaff but something I put in as test on purpose!! I have used them ever since. In the end, I have to begrudgingly thank my friend for recommending this local business despite my initial condescending misgivings. The jobs I bring to The Copy Room are small (a couple of copies here, a single print-out there, faxing a few pages the next day) ... definitely not the large scale projects that make the shop a big profit. Still, I believe The Copy Room treats my teeny tiny projects with the same care as they do for bigger orders. As an alternative to shopping at a Kinkos, the Copy Room is as local as you can get in Evanston, IL. Their prices are reasonable and fair and their turnaround time for ordering custom prints or posters are roughly a day. They can print large banners and posters, binding, faxing, and can scan your documents as well as long as you carry your own drive. Their store is full service and will print large volumes of things for corporate events or celebrations at reasonable and competitive prices. Simple black and white copies are only 6 cents in comparison to other places where they could charge much more. I hate how overpriced copy jobs are at big box stores. So glad I gave this place a try. My simple copy job was reasonably priced and quickly printed and tri-folded. I worked in the copy center at college back in the day. The Copy Room's shop reminded me of that very much. No frills, just getting the job done. Plus there were seats so I could wait for my job to be done. Also, I had a book I wanted spiral bound (a book of sudoku-like puzzles are much easier to hold with spiral binding). Cutting the spine off + the spiral bind cost $3.50. At Office Max, the same thing cost $5.50. This is my new go-to copy place. read more

This place is a hidden gem! I wanted to replace 7 paperback textbooks with spiral bindings. They all are about 500-600 pages each. I called at about noon on a Saturday (they close at 2pm) to see if they could be done before they close. Erik was able to finish them all in about 1 hour and the price was unbeatable. I wanted to get my 700 page pharmacy book spiral bound into two separate books so it won't be so tiresome lugging around one big book. This will also allow me to write notes effectively because the pages will lay flat and be able to fold over. They added a clear cover sheet for the second portion of my book which is appreciated. The results were exactly what I had in mind. It cost a total of $11.00 to cut the spine and spiral bind into two books. The books were ready to be picked in the time promised. Hello I am down grading this company based on a recent visit. I have used them in the past for 1 or two copies and that worked out well. However, this recent visit was a FAIL and that pains me since I believe in supporting local business and not big conglomerates. I dropped off some printing for an interview, left and came back in about 45 mins. I was told some pages could not be printed - maybe it was how I copied the files over. OK, sounds plausible.... I'm in a hurry and they are the experts - right?! Fast forward to the interview and as we are paging through the pages, OMG they are effed-up. I had to make some lame excuse but it was embarrassing! I gave The Copy room a call and he tells me to CHECK MY PDF since they just hit print!! OK, but I have PRINTED this document before [at work] with no problems. Maybe it was their fault maybe it was mine, but for chrissakes, why didn't they check their work????? and tell me. Note to businesses, don't blame the customer - take responsibility apologize and move on! I have to say for important documents, The Copy Room might not be the place to go... One last comment, they seem a bit to lackadaisical to me - maybe they don't expect to be used for very important work.... who knows. read more

This year I had the petrifying task of being the parent who put together the preschool yearbook for the school my son attends. Oy. Somehow I pieced together a collection of papers that were 50% soft and 50% hard copy - all of the margins and pages were different sizes, papers were different textures and included hand drawn pictures, photos, text. Hot mess. I first decided to send it to Office Max but realized they probably wouldn't be able to edit and size it to make it look okay. So I stumbled across The Copy Room. Turn around time was less than 24hrs for 15 yearbooks with over 30 pages that required all types of witchcraft to make them look good. The end result? Stunning. Like A grade for preschool. The whole book is cohesive and tidy, the colors are vibrant, the binding is fantastic and doesn't obscure any text or artwork. Put simply, amazing! This place was beyond helpful for me! I cannot thank them enough. I had to scan my 230 page dissertation so I could send it as a complete pdf file. Well, to me, scanning is minimal cost for the store given that it uses virtually no ink or paper (as far as I see). However, other places (i.e., big office supply and copy stores to remain nameless) wanted to charge between .25 and .50 cents per page!!!!! INSANE! That would have cost me a ridiculous amount. Well, the Copy Room came to my rescue....they charged me $15 for what seemed like 15-20 minutes of work.
