I have been a frequent visitor to the UPS Evanston store on Sherman, bringing back Amazon returns, shipping items to loved ones, and sending out Priority Mail envelopes. Each time I have found the people behind the counter to be courteous and kind....despite the chaos of customers sometimes forming a conga line in the store. One of the gentlemen was very helpful when I discovered I had brought my husband's CPAP machine to the wrong delivery service for a return and assisted me in repacking it. read more

NO PASSPORT PICTURES I booked an appointment for passport pictures to be taken, and was told when I arrived I was told they haven't done pictures in 3 years. I let them know that their website is mistaken then, and they told me there's nothing they can do. I'm no website designer but it can't be hard to take that down, or put a warning. read more

When hiring does this store go out of its way to employ only rude employees. The negative condescending tone in which they speak to customers, the verbiage they use and the lack of customer care is even below the level one generally receives when dealing with the DMV or SS Administration. This is a review for their storage services. I'm a Northwestern student and while I usually use the official university-sponsored company to store my items over the summer, I've stayed on campus to do research for parts of the past two summers, and as a result needed somewhere to put a couple of boxes of essentials from the end of August until school started in September. I packed up my items in moving boxes and called a few weeks in advance with questions and to arrange pick-up. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. They'll send someone to pick up your boxes for free on weekdays, but make sure to check availability and arrange beforehand. They'll also deliver the items to your lobby/doorstep when you'd like them retrieved. My dorm didn't have an elevator, but you can pay an additional $5+ to have them lift the boxes upstairs. Overall I'm very satisfied with my experience. My only warning is don't buy your storage boxes from them--they're extremely expensive. Go to Home Depot instead. read more

Staff are friendly & helpful from sending packages out, computer printing, etc. You can use their computer to print out shipping labels, making b/w & colour copies, if needed or just general use, for a small fee! If you having USPS parcels to send out, you can also leave them there for pick-up, instead of walking to the post office! Again, great job serving the Evanston area and beyond! read more

This location is by far the best help. Things in life aren't free. I go to these guys for everything. Print, shipping and boxing my fragile items. I understand people may get upset with not getting the answer they like. So the best way is to put their frustration in yelp to make everyone else look bad other then themselves for being so picky. I have come to this ups store on many occasions during their listed open hours to find them CLOSED. Not a wat to run a business.

Dropped off some items for shipping today. One of the boxes I dropped off needed to be stuffed and taped. The cashier rang me up without closing my package then moved on to another customer. I asked him if he was going to close my package and he said he would do it later after he helped the other customers, even though he wasn't finished with me yet. Then stated "If you want to make sure I tape your package you can wait until I finish helping everyone else." So I waited. I didn't feel comfortable leaving my expensive headphones open on the counter unsupervised. Is that regular protocol to leave customer's items out in the open without securing them first? Doesn't seem very safe. Feels like an accident ready to happen. read more

Was dropping off a pair of headphones to ship via ground and asked "Edwin" for a drop-off receipt. Was told he would do it, but it's "meaningless as we're (UPS Store) not responsible for your package" When asked about the location of the nearest UPS depot we were told to, "google it... now fck off" The employee's name was Edwin at the 1555 Sherman Ave Evanston location. Avoid this location. They're not particularly friendly and are almost certainly overcharging you. I stopped this location to ship a few big boxes about 15-20mins before closing time (I was moving out of the state). Already, the staff there was basically closing up shop and hurrying people in and out. I asked them to hold it for a day before sending out (so it'd get to where I was headed a day afterward) and they refused. Okay, not a big deal -- maybe the place I was at the day before was just being exceptionally nice. They also didn't really bother to check the tape job (in retrospect, my fault for not taping well enough) and the boxes were basically open by the time they got to me. But the biggest kicker is that I got charged the same price for both boxes (~$83) despite one being at least 5 lbs lighter than the other. The next day, I dropped off my final box at the first location -- the heaviest of the boxes I sent out and I got charged slightly under $50. What. I really should have protested back at the store (but really, they acting in a hurry anyway), but for the rest of you now, avoid this location if you have the option (sorry Northwestern students in a hurry without a car). I shipped 4 moderately heavy boxes from Evanston to NYC in June. It cost $131. :( But I didn't want to deal with potentially-cheaper FedEx, and my boxes arrived promptly within 3 days or so. There was free pickup from ground floors, which was nice-- you arrange a pickup time, they lug them away to weigh them and will call you with the total cost later that day (and charge your credit card then). Cathie on the phone was really, really nice in explaining this. What annoyed me was when I asked later for an invoice stating the actual weight and rates of each box-- they said "ok" and never did it. When I called back again, the guy who answered the phone sounded annoyed and then sent me the tracking number in the subject line of an empty email, no invoice. (There was no weight info in the tracking page). TRICKERY??? They also do storage. read more

Stopped by to return a package with prepaid UPS return label. The fellow was nice enough to tape the box closed and apply the label for me at no charge. I was in and out of there in less than two minutes. Sweet! They seem like a full service shipping center with all sorts of boxes and packaging materials for sale. At first I thought their prices were expensive, but the manager explained to me that he personally doesn't decide the prices it's corporate; but at the end of the day, ups is reliable and always insurable. I recently visited this UPS store in order to mail a package. While I am extremely grateful that the UPS stores remain open during this pandemic I was shocked to find the person working there was not wearing a mask nor did he seem to have any concern about social distancing. There was no hand sanitizer available at the store in order to sanitize the pen that was used to sign the receipt. If you visit this store bring your own hand sanitizer and insist that the people working there wear masks. read more

I have been coming to this UPS Store for years. I have had mixed experiences with other UPS Stores locally and in Toronto, Cleveland, Las Vegas, and other cities. As a student and native Evanstonian, this store has long been my favorite. I have used this UPS Store for all of my shipping and copying needs, exclusively since the closing of Pack and Mail a few years ago. After many positive experiences and loyalty, I was quite disappointed by my experience today. Today, I took a pre-paid Amazon.com box that needed to be returned, as I have done dozens of times before. What was different about today was that upon stepping into the store, I was immediately told by the associate that there was tape on the wall. Giving the associate the benefit of the doubt, I thought, 'Ok, they are busy today,' despite the fact that there was only one other customer... I would just have to tape this myself today. After looking at the wall, I realized that I was being told that I needed to purchase a roll of tape. After standing there a couple of minutes with a roll of tape, he told me to tape the box up and that he would check me out after I finished. After I finished taping the box, he came back to the register. After paying, I told the associate that I had never had to pay for tape or tape a box myself. He explained that they always had customers tape their own boxes and pay for tape. I found that very interesting considering the dozens of times I have brought my packages and have never paid for tape or had to tape them. He then came up with the excuse that it was because of the 'size of the box.' I have brought in similarly sized, if not larger boxes, never having this problem. If I had known that I would have had to spend more than $6 on a roll of tape, I would have taken care of it prior to bringing it to the store. I am disappointed by the apparent decline of customer service at this location that had previously been very friendly, community oriented, and engaged with Northwestern University. Update: the last three occasions have been easier and they have taped the boxes. I appreciate the customer service! read more

This review is for UPS's long-distance shipping services. Hopefully it'll help you make a decision on whether or not to go with UPS, or let you know what to watch out for if you are planning to use them. I had some clothes and books to ship home, and decided to go with UPS. I first went to the store and purchased 2 of their largest boxes (26x20x20) for $12 each. They were said to be "shipping grade" but the ones I bought from Home Depot were much cheaper and felt just as, if not more, sturdy. I also bought a roll of shipping tape there for $5. In other words, buying shipping supplies at UPS is pretty pricey. Then, I filled up the boxes with my stuff and called the store to book a pickup time. I gave them my shipping and credit card info and reserved a slot 2 days later. I was also told that if the UPS rep were to come up to my apartment to pick up the items, it would incur an extra $20 charge, even though my building has an elevator, so I said I would meet him in the lobby. On the pickup day, a rep called me at the scheduled time, and waited downstairs with a dolly and forms. He was really nice and took the time to answer all the questions I had. After I gave him my boxes, he told me that perfume was generally not permitted, so we reopened the boxes to find my bottle of perfume. This was fine since I only had 2 boxes but you will want to ask exactly what items are not allowed especially if you have many boxes. He also told me that I didn't have to tape the top of the boxes because UPS can do that for me. Then, he told me about the insurance policy. Basically, you can insure your items for $100/box or $300/box (I'm sure there are more options but these were the ones given to me). I think the $100/box insurance incurs no additional charge (i.e., it's built in to the shipping price). I was told that the latter option, which is the one I chose, would cost about $10 for both boxes. An hour or so later after I turned over my boxes, I received a call letting me know how much the grand total was going to be. Strangely, they also told me that they had to put extra tape around my boxes, which added ~$10 to my total. I bought their shipping grade boxes, and I had mainly clothes in there, so I wasn't expecting additional tape to be necessary or having to be charged for them at the last minute. The boxes turned out to be about ~55 lbs each, and the final amount charged to my credit card was a little less than $140. The charge varies with how far it's going, and just for reference, mine was being shipped ~600 miles away. Overall, 3 stars because the shipping materials were pricey, one of the reps was kind of unfriendly, and they weren't very upfront or clear about the charges. However, it is a reliable and convenient option. I would consider using them again, but only after I have done my research on other shipping businesses in the area! read more

Couldn't print anything (label, invoice, etc). I called and asked if I emailed them the documents if they could print it out. They did it super fast and the UPS rep Rondo was very helpful. The staff is friendly here, but boo to UPS Stores in general. First of all, they mark everything up ridiculously, including the shipping. If you ship more than a couple times a year, do yourself a favor and set up an account online. That way you can print the labels at home, get the REAL shipping rates, and just drop off your box. Today I went in looking for some specific-sized boxes (20x20x20"). I asked the clerk for two of them and he rang them up for $20 and change. I told him I thought $10 for a cardboard box was a ripoff (Consider that Home Depot sells shipping boxes for around $2-3 each). He replied that these were double-walled shipping boxes, which is why they're expensive. I paid, and he brought out the boxes, which were in fact single-walled shipping boxes. I pointed this out to him and he informed me that the ones that have two layers of cardboard are called triple-walled. I told him that the entire shipping industry refers to what I purchased as a single-walled box, and he said "Well, that's what UPS calls them." Good enough to get service done fast. But it stops there. They were not too friendly but did the job well. I had to get a return label printed to return something and they charged me a $1 for that. On a different note, avoid buying stamps here as there is a $2 premium. They explained that it's additional charge so that I don't have to stand in line in USPS. I've deal with this store for many years and generally had a good experience. However when UPS (the carrier) lost a package sent through this store (a franchise outlet) the store simply distanced themselves and did zero to help, apologize for the loss or keep me informed about the failure to locate the item. I get that they hand it off to UPS but it would have been nice if they'd done some follow-up, shown some empathy etc. And of course, it sucks that they lost my package which included photo that can't be valued in terms of dollars. read more

Never use this store EVER!!!!!!!!! I shipped my TV with them and it got damaged. They rushed the shipping and didn't ask me at any point to declare the value of the TV and they actually entered a value of $100 on my behalf which should be illegal. Ended up paying $200 to ship the TV and they damaged it. Now they're claiming it is my fault for not reading between the lines. This is the last time I ever use UPS!!!!!! It's FEDEX from now on!!!!!! Zero stars, if possible! To start, I'd like to be clear that I was nothing but polite until after I left the store and saw what this guy did. He had no reason to be so miserable. I went in today with 4 boxes with pre-paid labels. It was just before 2:30, and the store was empty. The worker was sitting in the back of the store with another worker, and just yelled to me to leave them on the counter. I wanted a receipt, so I asked super politely if I could get a receipt. It's like I asked him to climb a mountain for me. So sorry to disrupt gossip hour and ask you to do your job for 10 seconds. So I got the receipt with my 4 tracking numbers, and he put a totally unnecessary stamp right over the numbers, so that they were barely even legible after all that. His revenge against me for asking him to do something while on the clock. I have such nerve! I wet the ink right away so that I could still read them. I guess the joke's on him. I'm going to try to attach a photo to this review so that you can see it was completely intentional on his part. It was carefully placed right on top of the tracking info, not in the totally blank area below. Again it is a totally unncessary stamp, and he clearly did it just to be the jerk that he is. (He deserves a much stronger word, but I don't want this review to get filtered). I'm sure he must have a miserable existence to be like that. Came here on Sunday to mail a letter via UPS with signature requirement to a business which routinely "didn't get your letter". I figured with a chain of custody, they'd be easier to pin down. The guy was on the phone with a customer with 3 of us waiting. He was a nice guy and the phone person was long-winded. I paid for 2-day delivery and signature confirmation--$22. As he made the label he told me a confirmation email and tracking number were being sent to me "at that moment". Fast forward to today--never received an email so I called the store. A woman answered. I told her the situation. She asked my phone number and stated that "it wasn't in th system." Naturally, since this was a very important letter, I was very agitated. She asked my phone number 3 different times. I got more agitated. Apparently, she didn't have a pen. She asked my full name. Guess what? Nothing under my full name either! Or email address! "Did I send it from their location?" No, I got amnesia later that day and thought I'd just try your store. Really pissed now, I asked how that was even possible that they could take down all that information and actually make the label in front of me and then just lose it. She said she didn't like my tone of voice and that she was "trying to help me"--like I should be happy she was taking time out of her day AS AN EMPLOYEE OF UPS to help a paying customer of UPS when UPS had seemingly lost my package. Seriously? Apparently, I should've been pleased or at least nonplussed. Then she asked me the zip code where it was mailed to. Amazingly, I could not remember off the bat. It's a government office--I don't memorize those. Finally, I found an old letter with the zip on it and she found it under that. She then proceeded to give me the long-a$$ tracking number at the speed of sound. I had to ask her to give it to me again, while I got a pen. She then gave it to me again, really quickly, about 5 digits at a whack. I'm good with crap like that so I got it down, but if you're slower, you're going to have to ask that kind lady again. (In fact, ask her five to ten times, just for me). Incredibly rude. Like I should've been happy they actually found the package and did their jobs the way they should've the first time.
