I have to add an update to my review. After making the move to Malta, my wife and I were informed of another document of which we needed to have an official copy and apostilled. This had to be done in Chicago. We were on a time crunch to get this sorted out. Simon Global got the document for us, added the required certification and had it to us in Malta all within a week. I regularly use Simon Global Services, Gabe the owner is kind, professional and helpful. Have always received the packages I've sent there and in good condition. Gabe only charges $2.50 to hold packages under 50 lbs and $5.00 for packages over 50 lbs, which I believe is incredibly reasonable. I would NEVER recommend going here unless you literally need to put a prepaid package in the pile and leave without a receipt. After waiting for the woman in front of me to finish her money order request with all sorts of questions and complaints (to which she received no help and only attitude), I needed to ask one question about my prepaid label. I walked to the window and was told from afar that to put my package in the pile. I said "I have a question and need help". I was then told the window said "no packages through the window". I replied, "I'm not trying to pass the package through the window, I am just trying to show you the label because I have a question." I was cut off and told "I don't need to look at it. Put it in the pile." This went back and forth a few times before I could finally say "I NEED A RECEIPT". Again, I was told to put the package in the pile (this time with "so I can scan it"). I replied "I have a question before you scan it." At this point, the owner scanned the package and said "I don't need to look at it." I replied "I don't need to come back." He relied "Good! Don't come back and tell your friends." I have no idea what the guy's issue is, but literally he is of no help unless you only want to use his location to put your pre-paid package in the pile and hope for the best. read more

I used Simon Global Services to return a Fedex package. Dave was very helpful. Unfortunately something went wrong with the delivery to the intended party on their end and they did not register it as delivered. Dave went out of his way to help me find the information that I needed to prove the delivery of the package. I had lost the receipt that he had orginally given me. He didnt have to comb through the computer to find my specific information but he did as an example of over the top customer service that is very hard to find these days. I called to get him to change it, and he refused, and hung up on me. terrible service, I called back several times, and he hung up, then never answered the call, put me on hold until they closed. read more

Yesterday I entered this shop to use a FedEx QR code to have a label printed as instructed by FedEx. I also needed to purchase a box to send my item. When the owner informed me (rather abruptly) that he couldn't scan the code but I could print it at home or I could email the QR code to his email. After hearing this rather unconventional workaround FedEx security I stepped back from the line so i could figure out how to send him this email and whether that was a good idea. I also did not want to delay other customers while i fumbled with my phone. As a senior I'm not always keen on these quick technical challenges. So i was more than shocked when the owner misreads my stepping back as so sort of commentary on his unusual QR code scanning technique, and said "yea, I get people like you in here every day. Don't be a jerk." Well I wasn't going to stand there and give anyone who calls me a jerk for no reason. I walked out of the store to get away from this evil person filled with hate. He predictably told me to leave his store as he did not like the "non-interactive" response i gave him. He's nothing more than a bully. Don't do business there. The UPS stores in the neighborhood were useless - one the notary wasn't in and the other schedule an appointment and possibly be seen possibly not. We found this place who saw us that night. Simon's is by far the sweetest shipping shop in chicago. the owner is friendly, extremely helpful, charges reasonable prices. they even have pets in there to make you even happier. they have a great selection of shipping supplies. it looks like you can get a shot of liquor too. they make easy to ship - they will package it for you after you leave so all you have to do is lay the stuff down on the table and fill out your information and go on with your day. you'll get an email with tracking info. look, in the future we'll have to ship a lot more stuff. a lot of information will be transmitted electronically, and 3d printers are nice, but we're going to need to ship stuff for a long time and Simons knows what's it doing. sweet 3D ups poster. read more

THE best place to do any type of shipping business, period. I have gone to Gabe and his wife for the past year and regret that I hadn't found them sooner, especially living a few blocks from their storefront. They are always helpful. In fact, more than accommodating. My daughter and I are moving to Florida tomorrow. These two wonderful people allowed me to bring my boxes a little at a time as I cleared my apartment (over a period of two weeks), keeping them safe until I was ready to ship them to Florida. Amazing these days, if you ask me. Customer service has long been a thing of the past, and this is a true gem of a place. If you don't make the trip to use their services, be prepared for a headache elsewhere. FYI: If you're moving long distance, shipping boxes from Simon's saved me nearly 1K from the quoted cost of renting a small truck from U-know-who or installing a tow hitch with a 4x8 trailer. I called up the store about a confusion I had and wanted some clarity. A man picks up the phone and I ask about something, he instantly sounds slightly annoyed and tries to correct me. The whole reason why I called in the first place was because I was unsure on a situation and payment at the shop. He continues to get more annoyed before I could even really say anything and he spends back and forth just repeating himself when we already should of passed that topic. I went to get my passport copies and other documents notarized and sent to an international destination. The lady was very helpful, she said SHE will do the photocopying. Whilst I was waiting I inquired about shipping. The guy over the counter : the notary's husband said $92, I looked and I saw he was looking at the Fedex website. I asked him about UPS, DHL. He said same price for all, who does that? I was wondering, how could that even be, every company has different pricing,that's common sense! I pulled up DHL's website and saw $64. I decided not to ship from here because it seemed like they wanted the monies. When the lady came in with the COLORED photocopies, she asked me if I wanted all the pages of my passport to be notarized, I said my lawyers said only the first page and last page and the last is fine. The lady was ready, but the guy refused, saying they cannot do it and I have to notarize every page. On asking what would it cost me, I had a hard time believing my ears when the guy over the counter said it would take to notarize 2 passports : $240. So, I decided to get them notarized at some place where they listened to me and my requirements for much lesser : 1/80th the price quoted. I understand why they took colored copies : since they cost more. The dogs are cute and all that, but come on! read more

I wanted to take a moment to recognize Gabe for his excellent customer service. I was a bridesmaid in a wedding in NY and flew in to NY the afternoon before the wedding. I arrived at the hotel at around 4 pm and realized there was a huge mix-up. While packing, I grabbed the wrong bag and forgot my bridesmaid's dress back in Chicago. With less than 24 hours to the wedding, I was completely distraught. It was a custom dress and could not be easily replaced. I called around to UPS but I was not confident in their ability to get the dress to me on a Saturday. I never have to wait more than a few minutes and the one time I did, when the person in front of me was taking a while - at no fault of the owner - I was told to leave my packages at the counter and he would take care of them.
