#NotSoSimpleOnTheNorthShore Yes, I live way up north. Yes, I drove into the city to Micro Center for a super basic printer. My printer recently took a hit. Of course, right after I purchased the mega size cartridges for it :( ***Anyone want to buy some ink cartridges off me for a killer deal? They were used literally once and are safe and secure in a baggie.*** I decided to replace my heavier-duty printer with a much simpler, basic one. Well, let me tell you, shopping for simple ended up being not-so-simple on the North Shore. There were literally no stock or deals anywhere on anything basic. After stopping at four locations, I went online and noticed Micro Center had some killer tax time sales. So I made the trek, and within 10 minutes of being in the store (completely drama free) I picked out, from a nice variety of well-rated printers, an HP Deskjet 3637 for around $50. I did ask a young, techy-looking kid in the store about the two printers I was deciding between. He said hands-down he always recommends HP. He also told us that Micro Center makes their own ink for my particular printer, and that's it's a great deal. Guess where I'll be going back to for my ink? I have yet to be disappointed on the selection of merchandise and customer service from this place. Yeah, sometimes it's hard to find someone to help you, but I appreciate the space to look. As a long-time loyal customer, I'm furious about the treatment I've received at this store and will never come back. I've spent thousands of dollars here, only to be treated like I don't matter. When I asked about discounts, I was told that just because I spend money here doesn't mean I get any breaks. They refuse to work with you on pricing, no matter how much you spend. I recently asked for help putting together my old PC--literally just needed a GPU installed and some cable management because everything else was already set up. They wanted to charge me a ridiculous $280 to "rebuild" it! When I asked to speak to another manager, James claimed he was the only one there. But then, I got a call from another manager later who said he had been in the back listening to our whole interaction. James even had the nerve to say, "Just because you spend a lot of money here doesn't mean you should be treated differently." It's common practice in any business to value loyal customers. I have a membership and a Micro Center credit card, but now I'll be canceling it and cutting ties with this place for good. This experience has been beyond disappointing, and I refuse to support a company that clearly doesn't care about its loyal customers. read more

What an awful experience. I went in looking for 1 PC part. The staff was nowhere to be found for 10 minutes and eventually asked if I needed help. Yes, I said, and do you "price match" this item? "Of course" he said and printed out the price match form, tagged the item, and I was off to the register. Upon checking out, more managers had to be called and ultimately one said "We do not price match" Uhh... yes, you do, that's the whole point of Micro Center over Amazon, NewEgg, CDW, or Best Buy. Broke my phone and had to scramble to get one fast! Micro Center had a good variety of refurb phones to select from. But the experience of shopping here, is amazing. Several employees acknowledge you by saying hello or asking if you need help finding anything, without giving you the feeling they are pressuring you to buy something for commision. Its like they actually are concerned that you are being helped. Super easy process of checking out the phones and the buying process. Cashiers are extremely helpful. On my checkout, I had cashier Thomas C, and he was so polite and knowledgeable. I will be back to buy other products from this store, when needed. They have TVs, computers, tablets just so many electronics and accessories, at really great prices. Excellent business model, and old school helpful (and happy) employees! It's been 15 years or so since I had a custom built computer, and now it's time. At a friends suggestion, I went to Micro Center, and I was not disappointed. Shane Rice was my build advisor, and he curated my build specifically to what I needed down to the finest details. He was very knowledgeable, friendly, and he hustled. He was running ‍, almost literally. So, Shane deserves most of the credit, but I will say Micro Center is pretty cool. I hope even saw some machines you could build that would be like your own personal arcade game. If you need a new computer or almost anything related to computers you'll find it here. Charged me the $39.95 diagnostic fee to open my laptop, decide that "it was working fine," and close it again without further inspection. When I asked them if they thought keeping my $39.99 was worth a 1-star review on Yelp, they had a change of heart and refunded me. So I am true to my word. read more

A few weeks back I dropped off a friends ( Apple) laptop. We had no idea what was wrong with it. When I left the tech said it may take up to two weeks before it was looked at. In less then one week I was talking with Nicholas Penning, the tech working on the laptop. He was SOOOO nice and understanding. Nicholas told me it had to be sent to Apple for the repair. He said the repair time could take a while. Two days later I received a text to come and pick up the equipment. Luis G. & another associate working the Knowledge Bar had a nice loud, long laugh at my expense during my visit today after Luis loudly said my name in a mocking tone (after I'd already confirmed who I was). I also noticed that Luis seemed to add a strange heavily slang laden and not very professional affectation to his speaking voice when helping me. One of the few physical computer stores left. It seems almost everything is online now a days. It has just about anything you need, and employees are always willing to help. Sometimes being in a physical place store is nice, but sadly seems to be going away for computers. I am quite frequent client in Micro Center store. i am giving 2 stars not because on service, but because Micro Center partnered with Wells Fargo bank. It is so bad that i am not sure how MC is making money with this bank. 2 times i have tried to get credit and spend few thousands and guess what left empty handed. Approval process does not work at all. First i've tried on Black Friday approval process happen but i got letter 2 weeks later. Why do I need this 2 weeks later? Similar thing happen yesterday. Application was filled and approval process should take about 15 min according WF. Any guesses? Still waiting until today. read more

Super grateful that the store was open during the lock-down. I had monitor issues and could not work without them. They were super safe in their procedures of only so many people in the store and managing the wait with a text notification to come to the check-in. They have basically everything you need from building a computer to one already completed. This store is similar to how Tiger Direct was. I have encountered a few different versions of hell in my life, and this Micro Center is absolutely one of them. I'm glad to give them an extra star for having what I came for at a good price, but the praise stops there. The odd practice of having sales people slap their labels on items (for commission perhaps?) is tacky. But the big winner today was the line. They had two registers open and approximately 25 people in line. Normally I would have left when encountering something like that, but I was there and really had to get what I came for. It took 45 minutes to get through. Others gave up and left. Some people complained loudly. The average time to ring out each person was close to five minutes. Maddening. read more

This was my first time going to Micro Center but it wont be my last. This place is a techies dream. They have every computer park that you could think of. Tech as far as the ey can see. My wife said it seemed like a Build-A-Bear for computer. And that is not far from the truth. Everything seemed reasonably priced and the graphic cards they had in stock were not market up to crazy prices. I will say they could use more staff because with how busy it was it was hard to get a reps attention. So we were on our own for the most part. But other then that it was a great experience. But recently with Covid I have seen a racism towards the Asian race as they have asked only them "are you showing any signs" while everyone else has just been walk up name and wait for que. I love the store but after that it's a iffy thought in my Updated: much love for micro center. And I appreciate the effort too look into the matter. Jim was a great salesman, he helped me pick out parts for a computer, Jimi Built the machine. The Pump ended up faulty but they replaced. The manager Robert even matched the price of a more expensive pump to the one I paid for, as for some reason that pump did not work well with my system. They also heard I had taken an Uber there and back a couple times in this process and gave me an uber gift card. They went above and beyond for me and I really appreciated it. read more

My friend and I stumbled across the Mac department here at Micro Center on Elston and I found the iPad of my choice PLUS an Apple certified specialist. How good is that? Wow!!! I highly recommend taking your questions and/or concerns to Luis in the Mac department. He is my Apple go-to person. I pride myself on thoroughness and he is just that, thorough in his assessment. I very much like to thank Luis for his excellent customer service and professionalism. He is certainly knowledgeable with the Apple products. I am an older female and not once did I feel reluctant to ask any questions. Luis' demeanor was approachable from the start. I am an apple product user since the first Macintosh came out and now with these new Apple products it is time for me to catch up and Luis helped me pick out the right product for me and accessories.
