My Lenovo laptop completely failed to boot after a graphics driver cleanup utility corrupted the Windows boot configuration and recovery environment. The system was stuck in a recovery loop, BitLocker was triggered, and Windows wouldn't load or even reliably enter repair mode. Multiple shops I called said it would take several days just to diagnose the issue. Matt turned it around in essentially one day. He was able to manually access the system, unlock BitLocker, repair the corrupted boot configuration, rebuild the necessary Windows files, and get the machine fully operational again -- without wiping my data. I built my PC last August to replace an awful pre-built I had suffered with too long. I couldn't play any newer games & the most basic of tasks was proving too much for aging tech. Problem solved right? WRONG. All was right with the world for a couple months until I got the blue screen of death / repeated & random crashes. Varying error messages, random times, & no, I wasn't "pushing" my PC to do the impossible. I haven't downloaded a copy of the internet, why has it betrayed me? To be fair, I struggled to build this beauty, but I am no tech genius. My rig would crash while working or watching movies with friends. When it crashed on me twice in a row while playing the new Diablo 4, I had enough. It was time to find someone & Yelp helped me find M@. After I sent an email, he responded same day, a few hours later. An appointment set within a few days. He was on time, friendly, & understood my concerns - in my own "idk what's happening here it just crashes" speak. After running some tests, I find out my fans not at the correct setting & I was in disbelief. My rig was complimented repeatedly though but alas, the devil is in the details. He showed me how to adjust these settings (should I need to in the future) & we tested once more in Diablo 4. I was shook that I was running Ultra settings. Gone is the anxiety of crashing during the work day or movie nights with friends. I can enjoy games again & not be that person that disconnects at any minor inconvenience. Matt came over today with a new laptop for me since mine was having lots of problems like black horizontal lines on a totally separated, detached screen. Matt not only didn't mind my looking over his shoulder and asking him questions, but he encouraged me to do so. He gladly explained what he was doing, and offered his professional opinion when I asked him about something I had no idea about. In addition to being a professional IT person, Matt is super nice and totally non-judgmental--he understands that some of us aren't tech savvy, which made me feel very comfortable. My iPhone battery needs replacement so I called Matt to inquire about pricing. He was with another customer when I called so it went to voicemail. This story has a lovely ending. A few days before I met Matt, I had tripped over a vine by my garage and fallen on my knees on cement. (I'm the gardener, I was supposed to have gotten that vine out of there.) It was bad. A couple days later I was sitting at my computer checking on things, icing my knee, when I realized that someone was in the middle of hacking my Chase accounts and was proposing to come to my house so I could write him a check for $14,000--"his money" that "my mistake" had just taken from him. I did not follow his instructions; I looked to Yelp to find someone I could trust who would help me. Matt was the first responder. Reassuring, deeply competent, a fine explainer. Needed help troubleshooting a bizarre problem with the Ethernet connection to my PC. He came out, did a bunch of great testing, and then went the extra mile to verify one of my Hail Mary suspicions: part of the Ethernet cables running through the wall was damaged, causing me to have only around 1/10 of the gigabit fiber speed I was paying for. He trimmed the cable, wired it into an outlet for my gaming PC, and now I'm capital G gaming again. Lol read more

Never had to hire an IT person but after having our computers hacked we needed a professional to give us some piece of mind. Matt is exactly what you want an IT guy. He's honest, transparent and reliable. When I reached out to Matt I wasn't happy with my home network. I was considering a $5000 investment with another company that would have access points in the home. Matt told me that I absolutely could go that route but that I should first try the Orbi system given it was less than half the cost. He explained that based on my home size and needs he was confident that Orbi would give me the speeds and signal I desired. Having tried Google Nest Mesh in the past, I was skeptical to say the least as it didn't perform well at all. Nevertheless I wanted to give this a try given the cost savings. To get started and ensure the Orbi mesh system would be installed right I asked Matt if he'd be willing to do it. Matt agreed and gave me an accurate hour estimate over the phone right away. I was honestly still a bit skeptical that if the Orbi system didn't work I'd of paid Matt for multiple hours of work all for nothing. I voiced this concern and he stood behind his promise. He mentioned if it didn't meet my expectations he wouldn't bill me for any hours. Talk about standing behind your service. After a fast install (35-45 mins) the Orbi system surpassed my expectations. I went from 300MB up and down to 960 up and down throughout my home. Even better all my smart home devices were all still connected no need to set anything up again. Matt did everything he said he would and then some. Also super professional. I will definitely be calling Matt for a camera project I want to do in the future great guy! read more

We have two PCs (about 6 years old) that were running extremely slowly. For example, it generally took 2 minutes (yes!) to open a Word doc. Contacted Matt and he quickly set up a time to come out. Ran some diagnostics to check the operating system, etc. (also cleaned tons of dust out of their insides), and determined that it was our hard drives that were the problem. He ordered new SSD's and we agreed on a follow up visit to install them. Came back, pulled the old drives, copied EVERYTHING, installed the new ones and BINGO! Things open faster than an Olympic skier going for the gold. We can have multiple windows open, as well as Zoom simultaneously, and no problems at all. This was well worth the money, and Matt was very friendly and knowledgeable and explained everything clearly. Will definitely use again and would recommend to friends. read more

Matt left me totally in the lurch. He was setting me up with a Chromebook (which he recommended), transferring data from my Windows desktop. He left without me being able to access my email (one-and-a-half hours into a Two-hour scheduled appointment ). He said he would return early the next week for a gratis half hour, but he never called or came over again! Also, he was supposed to connect my Chromebook and monitor to my keyboand. He said he would text me a link to get the right connection cable, but he never did. I called to remind him to send the link and tell me when he would return, but I did not get a response or return visit. Left without a working system!!! Beyond frustrating, especially since I had gotten very good service from him previously. Did not do what he promised to do! But he surely cashed my check. This Is terrible service. read more

I couldn't recommend Matt more highly. He replaced both speakers in an older MacBook Pro while my wife and I had lunch in Evanston. We were scheduled within a week using his easy online format, waiting mostly for the part to be shipped. She couldn't afford to have her business computer be in Apple's hands for two weeks, so finding Matt was perfect. He sent photos of the computer as he was working on it with descriptions of what he was doing, along with video proof that the repair had been completed. Matt also dealt with a couple of other issues and gave some advice at no extra charge to his already reasonable rate. For the past 6 years I must have called on all the top IT help in the Chicago area for work on my MacBook Pro laptop. They were all mediocre and unfairly expensive. This round I had decided to go with "M@ The IT Guy" after reading Matt's 5-Star reviews. I am so glad I did. My email was hacked and was flooded with junk mail...hundreds of them going into the thousands. I am not a techie and know my limits. I needed a pro to help me with a stronger security system.
