I do my homework across my google map tracker cross referenced to yelp as well as my insights based on his affinities and price point. I send him a unique set of spots any hopeless romantic's partner was sure to love. He goes off script & selects Intero ( IG: @interorestaurant ). I had never been there so I made it my mission to get there first for data. I promised him, all I would send is a "fuck yeah" or "nah!" My solo feast included the sourdough focaccia ( house made ricotta, wildflower honey, thyme ), charred cabbage ( hot mustard, parm, chive oil ), steelhead trout tartare ( tomato, caper, leek aioli, carta di musica ), rigatoni ( smoked rabbit, mushroom, red wine, horseradish cream ), 14oz wagyu beef tenderloin ( grilled romanesco, spring onion, walnut, chili ) , and finally one of each of their in house made artisan truffles. Why not! Everything here was truly exceptional, full flavored, hyper local, I ate too much. The charred cabbage was the best I've ever had taking the reins from Din Tai Fung's sautéed cabbage in Vegas. Romanesco is one of my favorite veggies, perfectly paired with the flawlessly cooked temp of the tastiest cows I've ever eaten. After all of this meeting the creator and chocolatier of the truffles and chocolate bricks was icing on the cake. I expressed my gratitude, and just how much I loved the spot. All of the staff laughed when I said my buddy was coming in days later behind me. I showed them the "Fuck Yeah!" text message. I love Austin. There's never a dull moment, and I can't wait to be back, cowboy boots and hat in hand for the 2026 Rails World Conference. Tickets drop tomorrow at 10am CST. It's why I HAVE to workout every day!

They weren't busy and there were two other parties at the bar, at any time. The staff were amazing, although names were never offered, and I didn't ask. They were attentive and helpful when deciding what to have for dinner. Ordered the Ricotta & Smoked Kale which I had agnolotti, butter, pistachio. And this was amazing, reminded me a lot of a place in NYC with fresh pasta that has just the right serving size. The sauce was very lemon forward, and I was shocked at first but after a few bites, it all came together. I was pretty sad when the dish ended. Dessert was next and I had to try their Tiramisu with mascarpone, marsala mousse, espresso, lady fingers, cinnamon chocolate streusel. And a scoop of the pistachio gelato. Zero complaints. I really enjoyed the crunchy bits with the Tiramisu...and it was very light and the pistachio gelato another winner. They offered a class of Cardamaro to accompany the gelato and I tried it before tasting the gelato...in the middle of eating gelato...and after. Sadly, not a fan, but glad I tried something new! The bar area was well kept and the ambiance nice and relaxed. Loved that they had hooks underneath every few seats as well. I inquired about the seats that overlook the kitchen to which I learned to ask for the Pizza counter seats, vs bar seats. Noted! They did offer if I wanted to move...but that was a no go, glass of wine was already poured. Next time.

The service was perfectly fine, not exceptional, not terrible, just very "we clocked in and completed the assignment." Now, the star of the night: the Puffy Potato. Absolutely elite. Crispy, salty, indulgent and easily the best bite of the evening. If Juniper opened a side business selling only Puffy Potatoes, I'd probably be their most loyal customer. Unfortunately, things started to unravel after that. For my entrée, I ordered one of the pastas, and while the flavor was there, it felt wildly underwhelming for the price point. When you're paying around $30+ for pasta, you expect a little magic, a little excitement, maybe even an identity crisis over how good it is. Instead, it felt like I paid luxury prices to be politely bored. The drinks tried their best to save the evening, but even that became a waiting game. Twenty minutes for an espresso martini and a glass of prosecco only for the martini to arrive extremely watered down. Juniper has the bones of a great restaurant: gorgeous atmosphere, strong first impressions, and flashes of really good food. But for the price, I expected to leave impressed, not wondering if the appetizer accidentally peaked too early. Would I recommend it? Probably not. Would I come back? Also probably not, unless someone promises me Puffy Potatoes and lower expectations.
