It has been quite a while since I've been back (mainly because I moved away from downtown) but I was quite pleased with our meal. We came in for lunch on a Friday and ordered the Italian sub. This sandwich is no joke! Easily can be split between two people. The bread was crispy on the outside an still soft on the inside. The flavors inside hit all the notes you are looking for in a good Italian. To top it off, the extra crispy battered french fries were delivered nice and hot. Surprising delicious! The reviews for this place weren't great, but I was staying nearby and we decided to get a couple whole pizzas since we were starving. The service was fast and the ambiance was nice. They have a special where you can do a three topping custom pizza that was really nice. The slices might be hot or miss since they're not as fresh and this is a very thin crust pizza (so usually best when fresh), but the whole pizzas were pretty great! Salvation Pizza saved the day! Literally. We came down to Rainey Street for the live music, but only found DJ's at every bar but one. So we stumbled upon this Italian restaurant bar. It had everything from giant TV screens, to a pool table, to house made meatballs. We couldn't choose so we ordered wings, fried pickles, meatballs, and pizza, and we loved it all, including the last 30 minutes where I dominated at a game of pool. Not sure what exactly they started up but they are on Rainey Street, which is a pretty Rittz area that attempts to do something like East Side but as much more fancy. I had no idea Salvation Pizza offered more than just pizza! I've passed by it several times, but never felt drawn to stop in... However, after a long night on Rainey, my standards lower. I was hoping to grab a pizza by the slice to save a few bucks instead of committing to a whole pie at Via 313. Unfortunately, when I arrived, the waitress informed me they don't sell pizza by the slice--you can only order a small (8 slices) or large (12 slices) pizza, ranging from $25-$30, which was definitely more than what I needed. If you're in the mood for basic American bar food (think salads, burgers, sandwiches, wings) and want a place with plenty of TVs to catch a game on Rainey, Salvation Pizza fits the bill. However, if you're craving a classic, tasty slice to grab and go, I'd suggest reconsidering your options. Since we were already at Salvation and starving, we ordered a Pepperoni Pizza ($21) to share. It's the only bar in the area that has tvs that show sports on lots of tvs and some of those tvs are large format. So that's pretty cool. It's Rainey, so it's overpriced. The quality is fine. Food isn't spectacular, but it won't kill you. We had pepperoni rolls, toasted raviolis, and a supreme pizza. The ravs were not made in house, which we were told in advance, and that's fine, and they were just okay- honestly I wouldn't buy them again though. The pizza didn't have a lot of cheese, but if you love bell peppers, this is def for you! The pepperoni rolls were a hit, mostly out of nostalgia. We started with a spicy Bloody Mary that was kind of lemony and sweet - it may have been a mix choice; it wasn't terrible, just not good. There was a good Beer selection and a full bar. The TVs had good sound. A pool table is available for those who didn't want to watch the games. The bartender was chatty if you like that and he was fine walking away if you were not. This is one of the spots I've always walked past on the way to my car after doing something on Rainey street so since I had some time to kill I decided to give it a try. Nice big open space, tons if screens streaming the games, welcomed by an attendee right away. She took my order and I waited. Some how my order got lost and I ended up waiting like 40 minutes for a burger and onion rings. They apologized and gave me a discount which was chill of them. Onion rings were pretty good, burger was a little dry. Would be willing to give them another chance though cause everyone was accommodating. read more

Used to be our go to place, but a lot has changed that can easily be fixed. - You're a Sports Bar but you got rid of the Sunday Ticket. Doesn't make sense that you made a significant investment in the new TV setup a few years ago and now only Network NFL games. - Frozen Margarita Machine has not been working for our last three visits. - Only one person to bartend, wait table, run food, and clean tables. I will say they the guy bust his butt, but service is now completely lacking. - Used to be a nice girl, I think a Manager, who was always on the floor and making sure things were running smooth. Hopefully this doesn't fall on deaf ears and ownership steps up and helps restore to former glory. I was incredibly uncomfortable the entire time, because some patrons at the bar and one of the staff seemed like they were going to get in a Jerry Springer style fight the entire time. First time trying Salvation Pizza. I was greeted with smiles and someone immediately took our order. They were showing the UFC fight and some of the Olympic Games. A very nice gentleman offered us water while we wait for our food. There is indoor and outdoor seating. They also have a pool table indoors. They had a large selection of alcohol and the vibe was calm but inviting. I love when I enter a place and the staff love what they do. It makes the experience so much better. We decided to take a stroll down RaIney street to check out the other vendors and restaurants only to end up back to Salvation Pizza Restaurant. We had a party of 5 and decided to order the 18" pizza, Garlic Bread & Macaroni & cheese. Our server Juliana was the best including the bartender. We came by Salvation Pizza at the end of the night to grab a late night bite since they were still open, and it was an iffy experience. Our group sat at a large table and it took a while for a server to come by and even acknowledge us. Considering we were 8 people who wanted beer and pizza, we were pretty hard to miss. When we did have a server/bartender, she was super nice and helpful which I appreciated. She noted that she had 6 slices of pizza left ready, and that there was more coming in about 10 minutes. We said that was fine and we ordered about 8 slices total. We were under the impression that the 6 would come out since they were fresh, then someone would get their 2 later which we were all fine with. Instead, all of them came out 10-15 minutes later - the original 6 pieces were cold and congealed (not reheated) - see my picture for reference. The two people that got fresh slices had great pizza, I just simply ate mine because I was hungry. The beer at least was good and fast. read more

I hate to write this review...I've been coming for over a year for Wednesday trivia for context. The service is awful. Hit or miss and even when you're nice asking to get menu corrections or special requests no one knows anything. Tonight was sort of the final straw but I don't want to call any bartender or server out specifically as I'm hoping it is a back end system error..... Menus presented - I asked to confirm if Wednesday was still half price wine night "I'll check...what wine do you like?" As I'm looking at the menu I say "the house cab is perfect still".... As they're walking away and I yell as long half price. Long story short they bring me a glass (no confirmation) then I say well I wanted a bottle of half price and I will pay for the glass and bottle...nicely as they didn't confirm anything Comes back with the tab with a Merlot (I ordered cab) and charged $21 more than the menu! Then the bartender said the entire menu is off.... I'm sorry why would you give completely incorrect menus to tables? Then I pay and tip still very well for just grabbing a bottle then realize they still charged the glass AND have a bottle of Merlot This place is a mess. First Sam walks by my table makes fun of my shirt, then about 20 minutes later wants to come smart off to me because my calf was sitting on the corner of their nasty disgusting table that they barely even wipe. I expressed the reason I have my leg up is due to circulatory,. He popped off a sarcastic comment and said that I was over sharing. Simple fact is from an ADA standpoint I may have to go talk to somebody about this. I don't wear knee-high compression socks and 100+ degree weather for anything other than medical purposes. I could see if I had my physical shoe or even a portion of my shoe touching the table why there would be a issue again I very consciously placed my lower calf to hold my leg up to help my circulation. I love onions; but who likes chunks of cheap, raw white onion piled onto anything? These pizzas were floppy, bland, doughy messes. They did not even try to make them decent, much less good. They were not busy. It was 5 pm on a Tuesday. The dining room is really nice; but we got our pies to go. This place did not make good pizza for us. Thin crusted New York style pizza at its best - crispy crust, tasty toppings and generous amount of cheese. I prefer the Canadian bacon, sausage and prosciutto with onions and mushrooms, now that's a pie to write home about. And you know that they're a legit pizza joint when you can add anchovies to your Caesar salad. But here's the crazy thing about Salvation Pizza, the rest of their menu is fantastic, my son swears that their chicken wings are the best he's had in town, especially any of the dry rubs like lemon pepper or chipotle ranch. I eat here almost weekly and I can tell you straight out, they have been consistently good every time. The servers have the best personalities so you enjoy your meal even more. Over on Rainey St. you'll find Salvation Pizza which serves huge slices of pizza as late as midnight on the weekdays and 2AM on the weekends! They specialize in New Haven-style pizza, which is known for a thin crust with a distinctive snap and crunch. It tastes good and beats a few other pizza slice spots (Dollar Slice Club & Roppolo's for example) and this thing is huge and for about $6 it's a great price! When it comes to these late-night Rainey St. spots, this is probably one of the better ones out there, so next time you're down here, consider coming here for your late night munchies! 12+ year Rainey Street' homeowner here. Salvation Pizza is no longer feels like the old school sports bar it once was as it was even though it's still is Rainey Street's only legitimate sports bar. It seems to have bowed to the pressure of the rest of the sports bar pretenders on upper Rainey Street by no longer offering tall boys and other reasonably priced beer choices. This detracts from settling in to watch an entire game or sporting event as was possible in the 10's and early 20's. That said, upgrades have recently been made which make it cozier and more comfortable, but with that has come a noticeable change in its previous sports bar culture. We're still loyal regulars, but our frequency has dramatically decreased due to these changes. Fortunately, there's multiple options nearby that are within a reasonable walk. read more
