I needed to order a birthday cake for my mom. Usually she isn't picky, but for a while now she's been wanting a chocolate cake with chocolate curls. The thing is I live in the Bay area and she lives in the OC. So not only did I have to find this decadent cake but I also had to find a way to deliver it to her at the very last minute. I searched and searched and searched. Either the bakery was closed, or they didn't have a full chocolate cake, or they didn't have great service. I took a chance on this place. I found them on Uber Eats then called to see what they can do. I spoke to Jessica and they had one such cake ready to go! The only thing was they no longer had curls on the cake! But luckily, they added golden specs and small chocolate bars on top. Jessica also added some special lettering on the cake that said, "Happy Birthday, Mom." It was more than I could ever ask for on such short notice. My mom was thrilled! It was the perfect amount of cake for the guests she had at her house and they all commented how tasty it was. I had asked them if they would do the "birthday cake decoration" (basically colorful sprinkles) on a red velvet cake. At first they said they would for some extra money, but they said it wouldn't be cream cheese frosting, and what's a red velvet cake without cream cheese frosting? I'm very sad to give it a star only. This bakery used to be my favorite cake and croissant place in Irvine. Their croissants are the best in my opinion. Recently we came back to Irvine and realized that they changed the owner. The staff said the baker is still the same one and the recipes are still the same as well. So we got the cake slices, but it wasn't the same at all. It's very disappointing. The cake was dry and chocolate they use was not the same. I think the staff lied. They did changed everything. They just keep the menu the same, but the dessert itself - it's not the same. Just be aware if you are the old customers and think of coming back, it's not the same. I am glad this bakery was available. I placed an order online with the wrong pickup information, and calling them straightened that out fairly rapidly. The cake was accurately made, including the unusual spelling of a name, and the option to add dried flowers was a nice touch. The bakery is clean and easy to find. This was my spot to grab some cappuccino, breakfast and knock out some work pre- pandemic. My got-toe were either the avocado toast or breakfast sandwich. I've also purchased pastries, cookies and cakes for my kids here. In the last handful of months it seems that LCB has changed ownership. Just recently, the interior was reopened after being closed for renovation(they were still open for to go orders however). After visiting post- reno I noticed the fresh, light bright decor and colors. The menu had changed slightly - no more breakfast but still serve baked goods like croissants, tarts and other pastries ...and of course cake. Although I do miss the breakfast, I'm still a fan of this spot and wish the management well. I like having LCB in the hood and will continue to patronize this business. read more

Stumbled upon this place driving by and I'm so glad I did. The bakery is so cute and very minimalistic, and it smelled like tea the second we walked in. The two workers were very nice and friendly. My mom got a slice of the German chocolate cake (pictured) and I got a slice of the strawberries and cream cake (pictured). I really wanted to like this bakery but out of two visits, a total of 8 cupcakes ordered to go, only 2 cupcakes were moist. The others were hard, dense, dry and crumbly. The frosting was light and fluffy but paired with a hard cupcake, it wasn't a good bite. Last month's visit, the carrot cake and pistachio were the only moist ones. Today I visited around 2:30pm, bought only those previous two flavors hoping for the same taste quality but they were both hard! Very disappointing. I received a half dozen box of their cupcakes for my birthday that was delivered via Postmates. The box was dropped off as contact less, so I didn't see the handler. I brought the sweet treats in and when I opened the box, everything had shifted and all the cupcakes were upside down. I literally LOL'd and messaged my friend to thank her but also let her know the delivery was not very smooth. I just picked up each one and set it back into the shallow holes in the box. The mini cupcakes were SO tasty - Vanilla, Strawberry & Cream, Cookies & Cream, Chocolate, White Chocolate Raspberry and Caramel. They were filled with a custard or some type of cream topped with frosting. The frosting is very sweet, so I removed it since the bite-sized cupcakes had a creamy filling that wasn't too sweet. Absolutely love their ham and cheese croissants. The rosemary on top is what makes it taste extra yummy. Minus 1 star for not having enough rosemary consistently on every croissant. Looks like one of the croissants we got barely had any rosemary on it. There was significantly less Rosemary on both of them compared to the same LCB croissants I've gotten from another cafe that had the croissants. I've been coming to LCB for 10+ years now and have ordered their devil's belgian chocolate cake for nearly every milestone in my life! It's truly the best chocolate cake I've ever had in my entire life I dream about it. I moved away from the area about 2 years ago and came back this weekend for a nostalgic slice. The red velvet tasted amazing as usual but the chocolate slice seemed slightly different? Still yummy just a bit drier than usual and it seems like the filling may have changed as well? It's more of a whipped mousse texture with a much lighter flavor as opposed to before, which was a richer almost ganache filling. Like I said, still good but just not the same recipe as I remember! They renovated sometime while I was away so I'm curious if there was a change in recipe for the cake or ownership in the bakery itself? Popped in for an iced latte & check out what pastries they had. Something different from Paris baguette. At 11:30, their pastries were well stocked. They had tons of pie orders for Thanksgiving packaged to go. Pies seem to be $45 each, a little steep for me, I may try their pumpkin pie slice for $7 next time. Their earl grey pie looked intriguing. It's hard to find good scones in Irvine, their blueberry scone was yummy! I wish they used fresh blueberries but in any case it was delicious. Iced latte was good too. I will be back for more scones, pie & cake slices. read more
