The last time I dined at Bosscat was at their old location and I'll have to say I was not disappointed. Vibes: 9/10 I came here with some friends to celebrate my birthday and it was the perfect ambiance. Came at 7pm. The cutest decor, dim, upbeat music playing in the background but not obnoxiously loud you can't hear each other speak. I mean, I guess that didn't matter too much since we a loud group anyway . You can sit inside or outside so since our voices tend to soar, we opted for the patio and weather was perfect. For my girlies out there trying to find a cute place to celebrate with plenty photo ops , you won't regret it here. Food: we had a nice selection of plates and the menu offers something for everyone. Everything was nicely plated as well! Portobello mushroom fries : 7/10 I love mushrooms so I enjoyed them ! Thick slices, nicely battered and not overwhelming. I wasn't a fan of the dipping chipotle sauce, a bit too creamy. Brussel sprouts: 8/10 tons of flavor!! Way to dress up plain boring brussel sprouts! It was a hit at the table so definitely order this! Pig Candy: 9/10 sheeesh ! Pork belly was cooked to perfection, super tender and the Kim chi nicely complemented it without taking over the taste of the pork belly. And If you don't like Kim chi it's fine because they are tiny tiny slices and the pork belly sits on top of it, so you can still eat it without it. Don't think big slices like you at Korean bbq I would say this was my favorite app! I didn't give it a 10 because I wanted more and the portion was a lil on the smaller side. If you have a party of 5 and ordering other apps, I would recommend 2 orders of this and brussel sprouts! Trust me! Salmon 6.5/ 10: flavor was good, just not amazing. The cooking uses quality ingredients and love and care. I was here on business by myself and was seated immediately and after a quick look at the menu decided on the devil's cut ribeye a steak. It comes with a massive amount of oven, roasted potatoes and green beans. I also got a side salad with it as well which was way too much food for one person. The entire thing was big enough for two normal or maybe even three light eaters. The steak was excellent with a sweet coffee rub with a slightly sweet mapley taste. I could only finish about half and save the rest for the next day. Even though I was full, I decided to try the fried apple pie because it was recommended by many other reviewers. It was actually amazing. It was the dish that was highly recommended by the server and she was not wrong. The ice cream on top was probably House made and the pie itself was like a gourmet version of a hostess apple pie but of course with much higher quality ingredients and it was delicious. The vibe of the restaurant is exciting. It is a fun place to visit with the visual aspects such as the bird cages in the window case. Oak barrels used for aging whiskey are set around and the general vibe was very attractive. Everyone was having a great time and making quite a lot of noise from all the conversation and the music, but people were really enjoying themselves. If you want to have a quiet conversation with someone, this is probably not your place, but if you want a fun time with that kind of vibe, it is an excellent place. Had been meaning to try this place for a while and finally did on a Sunday for dinner. Reservations were easy to snag. Our server was friendly and attentive but that's pretty much it for the highlights. My husband and I shared the pork candy, which wasn't quite what I had hoped. I expected crispy, sweet, carmelized pork belly but it was pieces of pork belly in a savory soy sauce. Not very crispy. It also did not smell good, but tasted better than it smelled. I'm not hugely into pork belly to begin with, but my husband is a big fan and this didn't do it for him. I got the sugar barrel steak which was cooked perfectly. Great temp, seasoning, and crust. A smidge too much fat. And the cowboy butter on top kind of ruined it. Lime (?) was an odd touch. I ended up putting it on my potatoes instead, but it ruined those, too, so I just scraped it off entirely. Portions were relatively generous. The food was excellent, and the service was even better. Everyone we interacted with was friendly and attentive, and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant was warm and inviting. The only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is that we came specifically to watch the game. Inside the dining area, the match was only visible on a couple of small TVs near the bar, which wasn't the most comfortable setup for enjoying a World Cup match during lunch. Fortunately, there was a large fan viewing area just outside with a great soccer atmosphere, so we finished our meal and headed there to continue watching the game. We later tried a nearby coffee shop to catch the second half, but that experience was much less welcoming. As a restaurant, Bosscat absolutely delivered--great lunch, great service, and a lively atmosphere. If you're looking for a quality meal near the stadium, it's an excellent choice. We had a reservation on the day of the World Cup because we wanted to watch the game here. Unfortunately, none of the tables were turning over, and after waiting 45 minutes to an hour, we were told we wouldn't be able to be seated. We understand busy days happen & this day was probably an exception, but it was disappointing since we had a reservation. Most of the larger tables had already finished eating and were just watching the game, so we wish reservations had been prioritized. We ended up ordering takeout instead, and despite the seating issue, the staff completely changed our impression of the experience. Everyone was incredibly kind, apologetic, and genuinely did everything they could to make things right. We ordered food for nine people, and when we got home, we realized two orders were missing. We called the restaurant, and they immediately apologized and comped the missing meals without any hassle. Their customer service was honestly outstanding, and the staff handled a frustrating situation with so much kindness and professionalism. Overall, the reservation experience was disappointing, but the service was exceptional. We'd definitely give them another try because of how wonderful the staff was, and we just hope reservations are handled a little better in the future. I wish I had better things to say about this restaurant, but while there were a few things I genuinely enjoyed, the problems with the food were too significant for me to overlook. Starting with the positives, this is a nice-looking restaurant. The decor is tasteful and creates an inviting atmosphere without feeling overdone. The dining room has a clear aesthetic and a comfortable vibe. The staff was excellent across the board. From the hostess to the servers and food runners, everyone we interacted with was friendly, attentive, and easygoing. The dining room was busy, yet service never felt rushed or disorganized. I ordered an off-menu cocktail, and it arrived faster than any cocktail I've ever received at a restaurant, less than two minutes after ordering. It was also outstanding. It was beautifully presented, perfectly balanced, and easily the highlight of the meal. One of the staff members even stopped to ask me about it. Whoever is behind the bar deserves a lot of credit. If I had only come for drinks, I would have left happy. Unfortunately, once the food started arriving, the experience declined quickly. I'm also not entirely sure what the restaurant's culinary identity is supposed to be. It's described as Southern, but as someone who grew up in the South, very little on the menu reflects that. The menu leans more toward steaks, burgers, and fried chicken sandwiches than traditional Southern cooking, so diners expecting authentic Southern fare should adjust their expectations. As a small aside, the table bread and butter is $13, which felt difficult to justify, so we skipped it. We started with the Pig Candy appetizer, which was disappointing. It consisted of two thin strips of pork belly over a mound of kimchi sitting in a dark sauce. It wasn't at all what I expected from the menu description. The aroma was severely off-putting, though thankfully the flavor was better than the smell suggested. Even so, the dish never came together. The pork itself was decent, but the kimchi lacked the crunch and bright fermented flavor I'd expect, and the amount of sauce overwhelmed everything else. If I'd seen a photo beforehand, I probably wouldn't have ordered it. My wife and I both ordered the Sugar Barrel Steak with roasted potatoes, green beans, and cowboy butter. I ordered mine rare, and the kitchen nailed the temperature, which I appreciated. The roasted potatoes were perfectly fine, simple, crispy, and well prepared. The green beans, however, were a miss. Twice I had to pull tough stems from my mouth because they hadn't been properly trimmed. It's a small detail, but it's one I don't expect to encounter at a restaurant of this caliber, and it made much of that side unpleasant to eat, with most of it remaining on my plate. The steak itself was unfortunately very mediocre. Both my wife's and mine had a thick strip of unrendered fat around the edge along with sections of silverskin, so I spent more time trimming the steak than eating it. The sear was good, but the meat itself was underseasoned and seemed to rely on the cowboy butter for flavor. The cowboy butter also wasn't for me. It had a pronounced citrus note that clashed with the steak rather than complementing it. I ended up scraping it off after a bite. It worked better on the potatoes, but I didn't think it improved the steak. Overall, I don't see myself returning. The service was warm, attentive, and professional, and the cocktail was genuinely excellent. Unfortunately, the food felt both underwhelming in concept and inconsistent in execution. It's been over 10 years, so I think it is time for a refreshed review. Since then, Bosscat has moved from being next to the Airport to being in a very nice office park in Irvine. They switched from a whiskey forward garage look to a high ceiling, vintage, aged but modern southern feel full size restaurant with a large bar counter and big screen projection screens outside for "takeout" outdoor dining on weather friendly days. Back in the day, I remembered it for it's Brick Chicken, Red Velvet Churros and Fruity Pebbles French Toast. The Brick Chicken has departed the menu, the Red Velvet Churros are no more and I'm not sure if the Fruity Pebbles French Toast is still around since I haven't been back for brunch. But for dinner... Country Bread - A quick fried circle of bread that is breakaway biscuit sized with a large dollop of butter in the middle. The bread without the butter in the middle already felt sinfully buttered. I wanted to eat it all but was glad I had to share as no man should tempt himself like that. Thick Cut Fries - This seems a little pricey until the side dish reaches you. The fries were square cute and massive. It is something that has to be shared between four people. Glistening orange fried on the outside, tender spud meat on the inside. Their fries are really, really good. Portabello Mushrooms - I love this dish. It comes with wide cute, breaded pieces of portabello mushroom that are fresh fried with a spicy aioli dip. I did not realize that my party of 8 was not that big on mushrooms so I ended up eating half of the dish and there was still leftovers. If you like mushrooms, get this, it's one of their tried and true unique side. Bourbon Butter Chicken - A fried chicken breast that is laid to rest over mashed potatoes (you can get the potatoes loaded if you want) and served with spinach on the side and a creamy mushroom bourbon sauce. This was the perfect amount of everything here and sauce, chicken and potatoes was heaven together. 12 Hour Beef Short Rib - If I am feelin' the itchin for some beef, I go for this over a steak at Bosscat. The short rib is so tender and rich in flavor and is accompanied by a black pepper sauce, mashed potatoes and greens. This is probably my favorite main dish here. For drinks I had the Libation #11, which is like a rye version of a whiskey sour with a little twist. Bulleit Rye, Cointreau, Orgeat, Citrus and Egg Whites. Well balanced, well done. For dessert, we brought a birthday cake for our friend, but in the weirdest twist of fate, there was another large party there that finished before and their server thought when they said birthday, that they had brought that cake so they served our large sheet cake to the other party of about 16-20 people. Our server was very apologetic for the error that she did not create and let us each pick our own dessert from the menu, which we were totally fine with. Fried Apple Pie - This is a large apple pie pocket, served with a scoop of ice cream. It reminded me of those Peanuts Apple Pies I used to buy from the liquor store on the way home from school, but larger, freshly made and warm. Like leveling up 3x from those after school snacks (but they do bring fond memories). It's fun, good and shareable. The only thing our group noticed was that the music seemed to get louder and louder, when in reality it was always there at the same decibel level... Loud. During the first hour we weren't paying attention but then we couldn't hear what we were saying and realized it was not just because of the ambient noise. Hearty food done well, great drinks and a fun atmosphere. Good for dates, dinners with friends or after work happy hour, if you can navigate/tune out some of the loudness. Bourbon has recently become one of my favorite things, but this time I went with the Daily Dose cocktail, which is vodka-based. It was refreshing and really enjoyable. I came with a group, so we ordered several appetizers to share, and every single one was excellent. We had the artichoke eggrolls, chicken dip, and the Brussels sprouts pig candy, everything was so good that I honestly filled up just on appetizers alone. By the time we were done, I couldn't even order an entrée. Instead, I finished the night with the beignets, which were a perfect sweet ending to the meal. I thought I was looking at an old menu when I noticed the prices of the items, especially in Irvine, but it was no mistake everyone! I was told that these are newish items on the menu. I've always known bosscat for the fruity pebbles French toast (they no longer have), but have never been. This item was replaced with the blue monster, which I absolutely loved! Believe your server when they say that it isn't too sweet, the homemade blueberry sauce really cuts the sweetness you would imagine. Others in my party opted for more savory items like steak and eggs and the gravy train (biscuits and gravy). Everyone liked what they got and service was exceptional! the food was good but damn the large party fee being 20% of the bill for a group of 6 was rough bc it was $45, the person paying thought it was just a regular fee for a bigger group so we tipped 20% on top of that so they got a pretty generous amount from us LOL i think it should've been notified as Automatic gratuity for large party but it is what it is haha i got the korean spicy shrimp and the waitress warned that it was spicy but it was... not spicy at all LOL but it was good. the garlicky rice was a little hard but flavor was nice, presentation was super ugly though - overall it was an okay experience, tables were small for a group of 6 they also didn't validate any of our parking properly for whatever reason so some people in my group had to pay like $20 for parking which sucks, i had to press the call button to get support thankfully to bypass the gate but overall, eh read more

As a fancier restaurant, the service and environment were definitely there. It was nice to be able to sit in a clean and elegant place to talk about work with my co-worker. Pan Seared Salmon (9/10): The portion is generous for like $30~. The salmon is cooked perfectly with crispy skin and soft interior. The tomato and asparagus are roasted perfectly and juicy. Be prepared to have a great happy hour, but then get slammed with expensive parking fees! They validate for parking and apparently that still equaled to $31 for 4 hours. Sorry but at that price I could have had a few more items off the menu. Space was cute and staff very friendly. Parking structure really is the only way to go, heck at this point I should have valet'd the car. May try another location with better parking because I'm still dreaming about the delicious short rib grilled cheese, and tasty wings. read more

I've been here several times but I feel like food was not as good as I remember. Espresso martini was yummy. Croissant cinnamon roll was good but on the sweeter side. My pork belly Benedict was slightly overcooked. And they no longer have the monte cristo on their menu. Service was okay. Place was clean. They validate for parking but if you forget to do it, it adds up. I think it was $13.50. read more

My boss invited our team to dine here for a holiday luncheon. I experienced Bosscat probably 10 years ago when they were at their original location before they moved to this current location. I enjoyed it back then and this was my first time here at the new place. It was easy to find parking in the structure on a weekday late afternoon. The signs were very easy to follow inside the structure. Bring your parking validation ticket with you to the restaurant. There was a beautiful courtyard area decorated with holiday trees, and background, which was perfect for our team photo. The restaurants holiday decorations were festive, warm, and so pretty to look at. The ambience will definitely set you in a holiday mood. We started off with sharing the fried mushrooms and they were very good. If you like mushrooms like me, then you should get this! We all ordered a variety of individual dishes. I chose the bourbon chicken. This is a heavier dish that I usually would not order, but it was a late lunch and I figured it would be my dinner as well. I enjoyed the crispy kale and mashed potatoes (salty after a few bites). The chicken was rich and savory. it was delicious. My coworkers ordered a variety of other dishes, including the salmon, ribeye steak, hamburger, etc. it sounded like everyone enjoyed their food and we all had a wonderful time. Our server, I forgot his name (because I postponed this review, obviously!) was fabulous, kind and attentive. He took a few nice photos of our group for us. So sweet! Great vibes, cute restaurant, okay service, okay food, BUT FIRE CINNAMON ROLLS Came here for brunch in December and the restaurant was SOOOO CUTE AND FESTIVE! I loved it. Our server was nice and friendly, but the service overall was pretty slow. And it took a while for our food to come out I ended up trying the cinnamon roll (highly recommend) and the steak sandwich. The cinnamon roll was ridiculously fabulous -- crispy yet soft and pillowy. The frosting/sauce was delicious without being too sweet and the croissant dough was such a smart choice! I loved that the cinnamon roll was flaky cuz of the croissant dough. Order it for the table! The chimichurri grilled skirt steak was just okay! Steak was cooked well but there was a lot of bread. So the ratios were a little off to me. I liked the corn and black bean relish, but overall the sandwich was lacking in flavor. I think more moisture, less bread, and more flavor would make this sandwich better. read more

Luckily they do 3 hours parking validation because it's snail service here. I made a lunch reservation and even confirmed, calling the restaurant half hour before arriving. Upon arriving, they said all the table were currently full. I waited 25 min before being seated. I hate to be the annoying customer that reminds the host to clean the empty table and to seat me but yes I was that person after seeing nobody cleaning up the vacated table. Even after cleaning the table up with it all set up, I went up again to remind the host to get us seated and that took another 5 min before I finally sat. But it doesn't end there... After being seated, our drink order was taken immediately which was great BUT it took another 20 min for the waiter to finally take our order. I tried to wave him down a few times but he walks so fast and doesn't look over. After finally placing our order though, our waiter was super attentive and kept checking in. Slow service aside, the servers and staff themselves are all very friendly and professional. Slow service aside, the food is great. Wonderful portion sizes and great prices. Atmosphere is lovely. If you have lots of leisure time and patience, I'd highly recommend this place. Hopefully today was just a bad day for them and this isn't their normal. Bosscat is consistently good. I've been here multiple times and it's always a great experience. Lana was an excellent server. I recommend the country bread starter and the beignets with lemon curd for dessert. My only complaint was that they didn't have any cappuccino or lattes to enjoy with their delicious desserts. I would have settled for their drip coffee but all they had was whole milk. Maybe that's something they can add to their menu soon! You can't go wrong with any of their entrees.
