Came in on valentine's and thought the sweets were so beautiful, though I didn't actually order any. Was disappointed to see they were out of matcha so opted for a vanilla latte and the creme brulee latte. Both weren't bad, just not anything to write home about. They offer samples under a cake dome on the table across the register which is nice.

Honestly, everything we got was good but here's a mini rundown anyway What we got: * Earl Gray Cheesecake- Great flavor, the texture is unlike a typical cheesecake, but it was yummy nonetheless. * Caramel Chocolate Tart- A delicious combo of the two flavors- the base of the tart was better than most others! * Biscoff Tart- I love biscoff so this was especially good!! * Cream Roll- A popular Afghan dessert, like a pastry with cream and some more flavor. * Rice Pudding- We have something similar as more of a South Asian dessert, so it was nice to see in their bakery! * Bolani- Afghan flatbread with potato. It was a delicious snack! The sauce on the side made it even better. * Tiramisu- Classic * Afghan Qaimaq Chai- Soothing, creamy, sweet, PINK * Creme Brulee Latte- Sooooo delicious!! It's pretty sweet, but we loved it was so yummy They're open until 10pm on the weekend- great for a chai night, or to grab some dessert! It's probably one of the later dessert chai spots in Irvine The ambiance was really nice! The way it's decorated inside is so cute and almost elevated. There's a decent amount of seating, and even more seating outside. The service was good! Those working were very nice.

This place is currently Layer Cake Bakery, although they are going through a rebranding and will be called Cafe Mosaic soon. They have a fresh baked goods case and I ordered a Cinnamon Morning Bun $4.25, a Brookie (brownie/cookie), a Pistachio Latte, and Earl Grey Matcha. The morning bun was big and fresh, although the texture was not like other morning buns I have had. It was just soft and bready and did not have enough cinnamon flavor. The brookie was individually wrapped and very fresh. It was a big piece and tasted homemade. I would get that again. As for the pistachio latte and earl grey matcha, both of these drinks were quite disappointing. There was not a lot of coffee in the latte and the pistachio flavor was very artificial. The earl grey matcha was one of the worst drinks I have had. I could barely taste any earl grey or matcha and there was too much cream and ice in the drink. Service was okay although there was only one worker in the morning on the weekend I went, and the drinks took a long time to come out. I will only come back here for their baked goods. Be sure to avoid their drinks.

This bakery is located inside a strip mall near Laventina's. There's tons of free parking here. We went here on a whim after a movie, about an hour before closing time. Inside is very clean and chic. The service was wonderful, the woman at the register was very helpful and answered our questions. We wanted to get some caffeine, so we ordered Americanos and picked up some desserts to try as well. The Americano was very smooth, probably one of my favorite places to order one. Sometimes, I go to places and it tastes burnt and super acidic but not here. The gluten free and brookie were a little dry for my taste but the Afghan pistachio cake type of goodie was really good. I would definitely go back for coffee or espresso here.

I love when I find a new cookie flavor to obsess over. This week's flavor is called ab-e dandan, which apparently means "melt in your mouth" in Farsi. It's a delicate, buttery cardamom cookie with crushed pistachios. It's absolutely lovely! It's the perfect cookie if you're looking for something not overly sweet. There are lots of other options at this bakery too, cookies, cupcakes, pies, and a full cafe. I got the apple cider chai and it was delish. Staff were friendly and it was nice and quiet in here too.

I hate to review this place three stars but genuinely shocked by the laziness shown writing congratulations on the cake we purchased. It's not centered, it's slanted, and it's literally partially covered by a strawberry because of how uncentered it is. The cake was very good, but this kind of effort really reflects poorly to me. I ordered online, so I didn't have direct interaction with the staff except for picking it up. The price is too expensive for a cake like this in my opinion.

We stopped in on a Saturday after having dinner at a restaurant in the same plaza. The hours posted outside indicated they closed hours before, but they were still open. The inside is brightly lit and thy have a few places to sit. The person working was very nice and answered all our questions (we had a lot). We ended up getting a Chai and a few pastries. Under new management for the past 3 months now. Super friendly staff and I like coming here because the store is very clean and they make their pastries daily. My favorite ones are the chocolate croissant, almond croissant, and the ultimate is the chocolate almond croissant. So flaky and delicious. Still good even 3 days after. They also have a few new Afghan cookies and cakes so those are quite tasty. Now they do custom in house cake so that's good to know. Will be back here soon!

They claimed it was just a broken cookie, but there were no broken pieces anywhere.

I ordered from Layer Cake Bakery through Too Good To Go, and I received cookies that appeared to have already been eaten. It felt very unhygienic, so I requested an exchange or a refund. The staff member took photos and sent them to the owner, but in the process, she handled the cookies with her hands. After the call, she told me it was "just a broken cookie" and that there was nothing they could do. I was shocked--who would eat something like this? When I questioned why they were touching the cookies with their hands, she just told me to either eat it or throw it away and do whatever I want. I seriously question their sense of ethics and the understanding of basic hygiene standards. They claimed it was just a broken cookie, but there were no broken pieces anywhere. I do not recommend this business, as they sell products that raise serious hygiene concerns, and even after a complaint, they responded without any apology and handled the situation in a rude and dismissive manner.

This was the pumpkin qaimaq latte. She grabbed the regular milk at first and then realized I had asked for almond. The espresso machine wasn't used and she came out from the back and stated my drink was done. I took a sip in my car and drank something chunky. Opened the lid and there's the film you get when you warm up milk in a microwave. I wouldn't go back for their drinks.

This baklava is so good it caused an identity crisis. Flaky layers shattering everywhere, syrup hitting the exact sweet spot, and nuts so fresh they deserve their own round of applause. One bite in and I forgot my responsibilities. Two bites in and I was planning my return like a secret mission. This isn't dessert it's a delicious ambush that ruins all other baklava forever. Proceed with caution.

This bakery really hits the spot with insanely gourmet recipes and ingredients that are still magically light enough to not really make one regret having eaten some cake and/or a cupcake. The chocolate cake slice had this hazelnut cream layer that I didn't even know was there when I had bought it that just tasted so incredible. And the pistachio cupcake really is a masterpiece, with a green pistachio cupcake base filled with some kind of liquid pistachio and then heaped with the best (and light) buttercream ever that is then garnished with tons of crushed pistachios for the most amazing and novel cupcake experience I've ever had. The staff is quite friendly and was helpful in answering whatever questions I had at the time. The ambience is super chill and refined at the same time. Super glad we live nearby!

I ordered cake shaped as a toilet paper and it was looking so real and I'm super happy I ordered it!! Everyone at my party love it! Never coming back 1. Girl didn't greet us at the door 2. It wasn't busy at all (one other person in the bakery), and girl behind the counter was taking her sweet sweet time boxing cupcakes 3. Hardly anything to choose from besides coffee. There was just 1 person there working that I saw. I waited for about 5 minutes without any service (she was busy making a drink for a while) and since I didn't see much to chose from anymore I just left. I haven't been here in a long time and there's a difference now. Disappointing. Maybe I'll try it again another day. It's so close by but didn't seem worth it at all. read more

LCB did my baby shower cake for my son. This was my first time trying LCB, so red velvet cake was our taste tester. It was so delicious, one of the best executed red velvet cakes I've ever had. Recently found out that the bakery has stopped keeping gluten free cupcakes in stock - this is super disappointing! My family specifically comes to this bakery to get "normal" sweets alongside a gluten free option. If the gluten free options are no longer regularly available and need to be special ordered, it's no longer convenient to drop in. read more

This is the second time I purchased 6 or 8 pastries for a meeting, mostly croissant-based, with some filled with chocolate, almonds, and others plain croissant. They were always flaky and yummy, as they are supposed to be. The fact that these are baked on the premises and not brought in from a factory surely explains why they are fresh and flaky. I have not yet tried their cakes, but the next birthday cake I buy will come from the Layer Cake Bakery. I never buy cookies, anywhere, because they are always too sweet--to satisfy the so-called American taste! And we are chocoloholics (sp?), so I hope their chocolate cake uses real dark chocolate, as dark as possible. read more

They have a lot of options, however my favorite items are the chocolate almond croissant, not to be confused with their chocolate croissant (there's a big difference IMO) one is delicious and the other taste like a pastry from a random donut shop. I also really like their bread load, it's usually in the refrigerated section. I can't remember what it's called, but it's like a moist sweet banana bread, and k think it has chocolate chips. My husband also appreciates that they have GF options like brownies, and cookies. Their macaroons are ehh and I feel that about most of their dessert. I want to love them but they're a bit dry for my liking and some, the flavor just isn't there. read more

I would have given five stars if the cake was not A little dry. The design was excellent and the customer service was amazing! The front staff was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions multiple times. The best part was I placed the order over the phone / email and paid for it via invoice. This made it super easy and I would definitely try this bakery again. I think I would choose a different flavor other than marble. Hands-down four stars!!!! a little gem in Irvine tbh they torch the creme brûlée fresh when you order it, the little New York cheesecake with chocolate on the bottom is tasty and on the light side as well. But my favorite thing on the menu isn't even one of their sweets, surprisingly; it's their pulled pork sandwich, available for lunch. Seriously, I get it with double meat and it's one of my favorite sandwiches, ever. And I'm a big sandwich guy! 10/10 do recommend read more

Recently I ordered a Devil's Belgian Chocolate cake online for my son's birthday. The online ordering was straightforward and easy. The order was ready when promised. And the cake was one of the best chocolate cakes we've ever had, and we've had a LOT of cake from a lot of different places. It was moist, not overly sweet or greasy (that's the worst kind of cake to me). The flavors were rich and delicious. We decided since then to get another one and it's no one's birthday! The LCB makes the only freshly baked Morning Buns that I've been able to find in Irvine. If you've never had one they look lime cinnamon rolls, but have a more croissant like flakiness and texture. They are not as sweet as the type of cinnamon roll that would come from a donut shop or mall cinnamon roll place. It's best to get them shortly after the store opens and wait for them to come out of the oven when they sort of "toss" them in cinnamon sugar. If you get them a bit later, you should warm them up to enjoy them best. read more

Updating my review to 1 star based on the most recent cake my family ordered from here. I'm really sad to have to give this place such a low rating, but the last cake we ordered was basically frozen beforehand, and then defrosted before selling. The cake tasted awful - the buttercream was hard and chunky, which is not the texture you want for cake. It was also incredibly hard to cut the cake without it crumbling into smaller pieces. Please fix your cakes!!! I miss the old quality controlled cakes. read more

My girlfriend and I ordered a tres leches slice of cake and a red velvet cupcake. My cake was delightful. It wasn't your traditional "soaked in milk" constancy! It was a light sponge cake with a semi-sweet filling 10/10 For the cupcake, the frosting was "like having a smooth cheesecake" on top of a red velvet. This was my frist time in, i was waiting for my chiropractor appointment and decided to have some breakfast. I ordered a country omelet and i was definitely not expecting such a big portion. Definitely the best omelet in OC hands down!! Such an awesome service, Jessica really made me feel like family , I felt just like at home. I don't understand the low rating for this bakery. I took a chance on it because the prices are very reasonable and the cakes are beautiful. I am so happy I took the chance because the cake was delicious and a huge hit at the birthday party, everybody loved it and kept asking where it's from. It was just the right amount of sweetness, the cake part was moist, and the cookies and cream layers tasted so delicious, had the perfect texture. This post/review is way past due... Love this bakery! I've never been disappointed by their cakes and confections - ever! If you want something sweet for a special occasion, take the time to order early, sample their cakes, bet you'll have a hard time deciding what you want! And even when your trying to get something in the spur of the moment, LCB Is perfect! They're special allergen free cakes are incredible too!!! (I would like to add that the last time I ordered or bought a cake at LCB was over a year ago, I've heard since that the bakery is under new ownership. Within the last week I have had breakfast and lunch here. Breakfast Saturday was my first time trying this place. I am in this center all the time, and probably just figured it was a bakery only, so I stayed away. For breakfast I had the Pecan and Banana French Toast. It was very good, and was a generous portion. The french toast was really fluffy and had great flavor. The fruit that it came with was very fresh. I also tried my friends omelette, and that was good, too! For dessert we had a red heart macaroon, with chocolate inside, and a green pistachio macaroon. Both had a lot of flavor and were a nice treat! Today for lunch I had the Turkey Club sandwich, no tomato... and it came with chips. The sandwich was really good, and everything on it was fresh. I wanted to try so many different desserts, but I refrained and will have to go back another time and give them a taste! We went for lunch today just after 11am, and it was almost empty and very quiet. I am sure it gets packed during the lunch hour, with local high school kids, but early was the perfect time to go! read more

I always come to LCB for special occasions, like birthdays or Pi Day! Why buy one cake when you can have six different flavored cupcakes instead? I got my boyfriend the box of 6 cupcakes for his bday, and he was happy that he got to sample a bunch. My friends loved all the pies there were for Pi Day, esp the banana cream one. Ughh I still dream about that pie. I'm excited to try all the different cake flavors, one birthday at a time :) I recommend ordering online in advance and going to pick up though, since service can be a little slow. The workers have always been super sweet and kind though. read more

I ordered the larger 8" tiramisu cake which came out to nearly $50 for a special night with my girlfriend. It was wildly disappointing and just tasted like moist sponge cake with whipped cream. There was no coffee/espresso flavor nor the richness of the marscapone. My girlfriend just put down her slice after two bites and had a look of disappointment on her face. I did the same. I could have gotten any cake from Costco or Ralphs that would taste dramatically better than this. I felt ripped off. read more

Here's a random fun Suki fact: I love hunting down great coffee and dessert shops. Add chocolate and you've got my weakness. There I just gave away my secret. Happy now? :) I came here with a friend to have breakfast and find the best macarons to showcase at her wine bar in Irvine. The thing about macarons is that they're a complex dessert and hard to perfect. It's not like a cookie where you just pop it in the oven and you're done. Nope. These are a refined art and only a few shops know how to make them right. Sadly, Layer Cake failed with their dense hard offerings. We ordered every flavor and were disappointed. Then we got the red velvet and that also failed. The cream cheese frosting was oily and disgusting. The cake itself was hard. It felt as though these were made the day before and left out to thaw in the bakery case. Not good. Then we decided on breakfast since we were already there. I was impressed that they served Portola because I love Portola but unfortunately that tasted like back burner coffee and very acidic. My spinach omelet had grease running off the plate. I only ate half and left feeling icky. Overall, not too impressive and the girl at the counter could have cared less what we thought which was also disappointing. read more

3.75 star for the unstable quality control from time to time (I am having cup cake/cakes from LCB weekly), it will tastes so so so good on some days and it tastes just average on some other days. Recommendation to try: Red Velvet, Lychee cake, and all kind of cup cakes (so pretty!) read more

Wow we.. what a gem of a bakery. I have only had a few things thus far - delicious, fresh, appearance is appetizing and you want one of each. The service was mediocre. I'm assuming she wasn't having a good day she was not friendly. The ambiance is cute. There are a couple of tables inside where you can drink and eat. I'll try that next time. I'm going back because l like to support small business in our city and hopefully if that employee is there she is having a better day. read more

Ordered a pecan bourbon pie for thanksgiving. It was okay but the pie was mainly pecans, no crust and no filling. Would have loved more of balance except it was just a mouthful of pecans in each bite. read more

yelp and online menu were incorrect. i tried to call to see if they had the item i wanted in stock (online said they did and gave an option to order) and i got no answer over and over. i ended up going into the store to hopefully purchase what i wanted and turns out they "don't sell it anymore" please update your menus and actually have someone answer the phone. there were maybe 2 customers sitting when i went in so it wasn't busy. read more

I cannot thank you enough for the fantastic birthday cake that your staff created for me on my birthday! It was late-notice, but I was accommodated regardless. I selected the gourmet Coconut Leches Cake. I had already tried several of the cupcakes and macrons, but the coconut cake stole my heart! Everything was fresh and delicious. I am impressed with the wholesome ingredients and a REALLY good bakery does NOT use shortening; I was THRILLED when the staff immediately told me that shortening was NEVER used in any of the products. There was a cute, adorable sign posted that declared BUTTER and NOT shortening. That was fantastic news. And believe me, that's exactly why my cake was outstanding. The employees are so helpful, patient, and equally excited as I was about purchasing a birthday cake. My mother picked up my cake a few days later and it was not only beautifully decorated, but it tasted divine. After looking on the website, I was really excited to try this place. Then I called the location to inquire more about their scones (for a large party) and to my surprise, they do not carry them. To add, the person who answered the phone was extremely rude and aloof. It was basically a "no" and then a hang up. It was so delightful to have this amazing cake brought right to the door! The cake: We ordered a 6" peanut butter and chocolate cake. I live close by so I like to come here for their sandwiches, which are excellent for the price. Sandwiches are $6.50-7.00 and the quality is much better than anything else you can find. I ate the strawberry cake, it was watery for a cake, too moist. I must say everything there is way overpriced for cake that is not good. The cake I brought was 5 bucks for one slice. Macroons are almost 2 bucks for one! read more

When the cakes are fresh (same day) they're awesome. Try to come back when a fresh one has been put out on display and that's what you want. All the other snack stuff is really good too, like cookies and macaroons, etc. read more

The red velvet cupcakes are a sure win for me. Although the cupcakes are overpriced, the airy frosting somewhat compensates for that. Also, the banana pudding hits the spot most times. A simple and delightful bakery. read more
