So when visiting Ohana again we decided to go back to this place. It's still busy but not as crowded as it once was. Used to be a cash only place now they accept credit card. The food is okay. Below one star. Ventured off the resort for this trashy breakfast joint. It had a lot of potential to be great or at least a fulfilling greasy spoon. This place was just awful from the start. From the wait staff refusing to allow a baby and my wife to sit until the food was ordered at the counter, despite having plenty of open self seating available. Rude staff all around. They didnt serve ice water unless you purchase their overpriced room temp boxed water. Onto the food, $65 for breakfast for two is fine if it's good but it was absolutely low quality. The crab cake eggs Benedict were completely overcooked, basically a hard boiled egg with some cheese masquerading as hollandaise. Deep fried Canned lump crab. The plate was basically two colors, yellow and white. Disgusting to all the senses. The loco moco had a hockey puck of a hamburger patty, likely something imported that was frozen. The rice tasted day old. The gravy was gritty. Added a side of guac for $5.00 which was basically a quarter sized dollop, brown in color and flavorless. Kihei Caffe is definitely a busy tourist spot, but it was a must on my list because of their highly advertised macadamia banana pancakes. They're open every day from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., making it a great option for early risers craving a hot coffee and a delicious breakfast. While the food is truly amazing, be prepared to pay more than at most places. Out of all the meals I had during my vacation, this was by far the most expensive. We spent just over $60 for two breakfast plates, and that didn't even include a drink. One thing to note is they don't serve tap water. When I asked for a glass of water to go with my eggs and pancakes, the cashier informed me that they only sell boxed water. Also, if possible, pay in cash because there's a 3% fee for credit card transactions. They've also posted a sign letting customers know that there's been an increase in meal prices that include eggs, due to rising costs. When you order at the cashier, an employee will seat you. Unfortunately, they placed me at a less-than-ideal spot, and when I asked if I could move, they said no due to the need for other tables. All in all, despite the few frustrations, the food really is worth it if you're willing to pay the price. Just go in with realistic expectations and be prepared for some extra costs.
