    Ribeye Steak and Jerk Chicken
    Holyn A.

Overall, the food was good, but the restaurant felt a bit overrated and not worth a long wait. It was quite loud, and while the service was decent, nothing really stood out. The Ribeye was good but not worth the $72 price tag--it needed more flavor and didn't have much marbling. The Jerk Chicken was tasty, especially with the salsa, but I wish it came with a more interesting side than white rice. Not a bad meal, just nothing special that would make me rush back.

Went for happy hour, was sat outside and it was beautiful. Food was great ordered the Kalua Pork & Pineapple Pizza, Taro Ravioli and Mai Tais. The ravioli was soft and out of this world, and the drinks were soft different and delicious. They weee busy but right on top of things. Can't wait to return some day.

We've tried many restaurants in Maui this week and MonkeyPod has hands down been both the best tasting and highest quality food we've had. Everything is so fresh and delicious I would eat here every day if we could. You can't go wrong with the house Mai Thai + cheeseburger with fresh fries. The fresh caught fish tacos are some of the best I've ever had. Just delicious! The ambiance and service has also been incredible! Would recommend sitting outside with the beautiful view of the mountains. 1000/10!

We had an outstanding experience from start to finish. We walked right in and sat at the bar, where Breanne took excellent care of us as both our bartender and server. She was attentive and friendly. The food was fantastic. I ordered the ahi poke tacos and the bulgogi pork tacos. The bulgogi ones were a perfect balance of savory, sweet, and spicy. This was my third Monkeypod location and they continue to deliver on every level, consistent food, excellent service, and a great atmosphere. If you're visiting Wailea, this is a must.

We visited Merriman during our last visit to Maui, so this time we decided to check out their sister restaurant, Monkeypod Kitchen. The vibe is definitely more trendy and casual in comparison to its counterpart, with a vast menu of Hawaiian inspired/fusion dishes. We decided to try the: - Taro Ravioli - Waipoli Farm Organic Mixed Greens Salad - Organic Macadamia Nut Crusted Mahi Mahi - Lilikoi Foam Mai Tai (Original & NA Versions) The taro ravioli was the star of the meal with its unique flavor, followed by the freshness of the Mahi Mahi. They also knew we were sharing, so they conveniently split the Mahi Mahi for us in advance. You also can't go wrong with the infamous Mai Tais - the Lilikoi foam is -chef's kiss-! I highly recommend making reservations prior to visiting, as the restaurant does get pretty busy. Our server was also so kind and surprised us with complimentary champagne (original & NA) for our babymoon, making our visit that much sweeter.

Enjoyed a nice meal tonight. Rachel was our server and she did a good job with recommendations and service. Food was very good and we all liked our meals. The Mai Tai were very good good with a different taste of not on the sweet side. Jerk chicken was flavorful as was the steaks. Deserts were a reminder of the way our mom would make these pies. They had some live music going on.

We've been coming to Monkeypod for the Mai Tais for over 10 years, and this was the first time we had truly standout, memorable service from a bartender. Chris is hands down our favorite bartender at any Monkeypod we've visited! My husband and I stopped in during happy hour for drinks and checked in with the hostess. We noticed open tables and a few at the bar. Since we wanted drinks only, I headed to the bar to ask about it, and Chris warmly welcomed us and told us to let the hostess know you prefer bar seating and he'd be happy to serve us. From the moment we sat down, Chris was friendly, genuine, and engaging. He made us feel welcome whether we were ordering a Mai Tai or a ginger ale for my husband, who recently quit drinking. No judgment--just great hospitality. He effortlessly connected with guests around him while staying on top of everyone's orders. 5+ stars for service. Mahalo, Chris, for making such a lasting impression. And thanks for convincing me that the strawberry cream pie is a must-order from now on! #GoWizards

They get really crowded so make sure you make a reservation! Super fun casual vibes and great food options. My friends and I opted for more shareable food so we went with the pizza and fish & chips which were really good. Definitely recommend the lobster pizza! They're known for their mai tais so even though I'm unfamiliar with them, I still have to say it was really enjoyable!

Absolutely loved this place! Everything we ordered was so good and came out looking amazing. The pizza was my favorite -- the crust was crispy but still soft, and the toppings were super flavorful. The jalapeños added a nice little kick, and everything tasted really fresh. The wings were also really good -- juicy, flavorful, and the dipping sauce that came with them was perfect. And dessert was honestly the best way to end the meal. The strawberry cream pie was light, creamy, and not overly sweet, with fresh strawberries on top that made it even better. The drinks were refreshing, the food was great, and the whole meal was just really enjoyable. Definitely a spot I'd come back to and recommend if you're looking for a good meal and a nice atmosphere! Service was good!

A great location spot to enjoy dinner with family or friends. The truffle fries are a must and so tasty especially with the aioli. The ahi tacos were also so fresh and so great! We got the pesto Hawaiian for the table as well which was surprisingly flavorful as well, it's a little sweet so it may not be for everyone. The ahi steak was so tasty and probably one of the best dishes of the night. For dessert we got the strawberry pie which was great but the guava wasn't my favorite topping to pair with it. I wish the orange creamsicle was on the menu similar to other locations. Service was spot on and never had to ask for anything, the only miss was there were quite a few flies in the restaurant because of the open concept style of the layouts.

Mai tais live up to the hype. The lilikoi foam is heavenly. Get it for $4 off at happy hour. Wings were good, half off during happy hour. We also got the saimin and ahi tuna steak off the regular menu. Both were okay, but way too salty.

Granted we came for lunch and while I did enjoy what we ordered, I'm not sure what the fuss is all about. I'll admit, the fries were magnificent, and the burger tasty, and the poke nachos fresh and delicious, but nothing earth shattering. Good, maybe even great, but just not "wow.I'm so glad I waited 2 hrs for a table" great. Even the famous Mai Tai just met expectations. Pretty big place, and I'm glad we made a reservation. They happy hour and music but that was the tailend of our visit so we didn't get to enjoy either. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in town, and will go for dinner next time. Perhaps I'll be more impressed then!

Ahi Poke Tacos and deviled eggs
    Jen N.

Went for their famous happy hour. We did not have a reservation, but they had open tables inside, so we were able to be seated right away. Unfortunately their pizza oven was broken that day, so foodwise, there weren't many happy hour options. That was a bummer, as we ended up spending a lot more than we intended. Our food was still delicious, our server was super kind and helpful, and the cocktails were delicious. The mai tais there can't be beat! I would probably skip the lobster deviled eggs in the future. They were good, but they have better options for the price. Poke tacos were fresh and flavorful, and the seared ahi steak was perfectly done. I wasn't sure about the jalapeno potatoes, but they were delicious! A yummy combo I would not have thought to do. Definitely worth a visit when in Maui!

Ask the Community - Monkeypod Kitchen by Merriman

Do they have an open seating option at the bar?

As far as I remember- Yes

Is there an elevator to get upstairs?

    Yes, there is.

Is this place good for families with children?

    Yes, very family friendly.

Is the menu the same on Sunday for lunch?

    Yes.

    Are there walk ins?

Yes, you might have to wait but actually got in on a Friday night.

    Do you need a reservation?

They don't take reservations. It is first come first serve. We went during happy hour and had no problem getting a table. I would suggest going between four and 430 for an early dinner.

What's the difference between this place and the other Monkey Pod kitchen in Ka'anapali?

Is happy hour menu available in bar or in general seating? Can we bring kids during happy hour?

Our experience has been that HH menu is available in both bar and general seating. My kids were with us each time.

What vegan options do they have?

I do not know, can you look on their website.

Should we make reservations or are they only taking walk-ins?

You cannot make a reservation. You stand in line to put your name in, they add you to a list, and then you have 10 mins after they text you to arrive back at the restaurant. We went across the street to have drinks at the happy hour.

If you arrive around 4:00 do you feel like you can grab a seat?

They don't have seating. It's all take out.

Which brand of rum do you use in your mai tai?

The menu says Kula Organic Rums.

Do they allow dogs for outdoor dining?

    No.

What are the hours for happy hour at Wailea location?

    3pm to 5pm, daily! 😊

Do they have gluten free options?

Yes, there are several items that are gluten-free. Tacos are served with corn tortillas but ask and confirm to be safe. All their salads too but I always ask to make sure. Great mixed drinks too! No reservations yet but if you walk in the wait… Read more

However, the owner took the time to respond and explain that the entire shopping center wing was experiencing cooling issues and that the restaurant was dealing with significant staffing shortages at the time. While that doesn't completely change the experience we had, I appreciate that the owner acknowledged the challenges and responded professionally rather than dismissing the feedback. One observation I would offer is that, as a customer, it was difficult to tell who was serving tables. I noticed several employees in Pint & Cork shirts moving around the restaurant, but only saw a couple of servers actively covering the dining area. It's possible some staff were assigned to bartending or other responsibilities, but from the guest perspective it gave the impression that table service was understaffed while other employees appeared unavailable. I still think there is room for improvement in the flow and logistics on the floor, but I appreciate the owner's willingness to engage with feedback and explain the circumstances. That being said, I would be willing to give the restaurant another chance. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATED REVIEW AFTER OWNER'S RESPONSE: 6.21.26 I appreciate the response. It's telling that you addressed the air conditioning, disputed the gender of an employee, and questioned whether I was even there, yet didn't meaningfully respond to the concerns about service, timing, attentiveness, or food quality. If a customer leaves with a poor experience, the question isn't whether they perfectly recalled every detail. The question is why they left with that impression in the first place. I suspect future readers can draw their own conclusions from both the review and the response. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Probably the most disappointing dining experience of our Hawaii trip. We specifically asked to sit indoors because we wanted a break from the Maui heat after spending the day outside. Unfortunately, we quickly realized there was no air conditioning, making the indoor seating barely any cooler than outside. The restaurant also felt severely understaffed. It took around 10 minutes just to get a Diet Coke, and every time I asked for assistance, the woman working at the register seemed to defer the request rather than help or find someone who could. Meanwhile, some employees appeared more interested in chatting than helping customers, while only one or two staff members seemed to be working the floor. I understand restaurants get busy, especially in a tourist area, but the issue wasn't just the wait--it was the feeling that customer service wasn't a priority. As for the food, it was nothing special. I ordered a steak that had a nice smoky flavor, but it arrived well done and overcooked. The rest of the meal was average at best and definitely not memorable enough to make up for the service issues. Between the lack of air conditioning, slow service, inattentive staff, and mediocre food, this was one of the few places in Hawaii where I genuinely regretted spending my money. Considering the location at The Shops at Wailea and the prices being charged, I expected a much higher level of hospitality and execution. There are far too many great dining options in Wailea to come back here.

Then I had the lobster tempura dish for my main meal combined with grilled monchong. This is one of the best dishes I think I've ever had in my life. The fish was so light and buttery and juicy and flaky, and the lobster cooked to perfection, and I was very skeptical because were breading this lobster and tempura and there's such a risk of over cooking and that did not happen here I was super super pleased. I then went with the Pinoy honey toast for dessert with a side of Ube ice cream also incredible. The service here for me was second to none. It was delightful to spend my 50th birthday here and I owe much gratitude to Leeann and Randy for their service! Many mahalos! I will definitely be back.

My cousin and I were excited to go to their Sunday Brunch. I've been several years ago and it was…read moredelicious. This was his 1st time. I saw the Sunday Brunch deal on my Facebook with a Free Pool Pass for the month of June! We couldn't pass that up. Because we went on the very last Sunday in June, it was real busy with visitors staying at the hotel and locals alike taking advantage of this Summer deal so we expected it. We got maybe 2-3 plates each. My cousin took advantage of the proteins first. He went straight to get the Ko Rosemary Crusted Prime Rib with the Horseradish and Au Jus which was delicious and our top favorite. He wasn't a big fan of the Mochiko Chicken, he said it was a bit dry. I started off with the selection of appetizers like the Ulu & Potato Mac Salad, Lomi Lomi Salmon, Waipoli Baby Greens with Papaya Seed Dressing and Poi! I loved it all. I was pretty naive and put the scrambled eggs and Braised Short Ribs on my plate but didn't realize it was a Loco Moco station lol! That was a fail but the Braised Short Ribs was so tender and is a must if you go. Make sure you make yourself a Loco Moco lol! Other favorites was the Lavender Honey Crispy Shrimp (because there was so many people I got the bottom of the bowl but they refilled it right after), Pork Shumai with Mustard Sauce, and Longanisa (Filipino Sausage with Garlic and Vinegar) with Onions. My coworker told me his stomach got upset from the Ahi a few months ago so I kinda stayed away from the Seared Ahi station (and I love ahi) except for the Vegetable and California Rolls and the Shumai. I took one Kimchee Shrimp just to try but the shrimp didn't taste the best sadly. I was also looking forward to the Pancakes station since I read there's Banana Pancakes and Chantilly Sauce! I do love me some Chantilly but it was mini Regular Pancakes with Strawberry, Lilikoi (Passion Fruit) Butter, and Syrup. I was a bit disappointed but the desserts didn't disappoint and was a hit. Our favorites were the Guava Chiffon Cake which was light and creamy, Hokkaido Cheese Tart, Calamansi Tartelettes and also the Paniolo Banana Rum Cake. I love small desserts-less waste and definitely leaving you satisfied when done right! Overall it was delicious- some hits and a few misses but we both understood it was the last Brunch deal day and had a relaxing Pool day afterwards. We both work in Customer Service/Hospitality and we appreciated the Staff working hard and being so welcoming and friendly, full of aloha.

Nick's Fishmarket Maui is a very long time favorite and I still mourn the loss of Nick's Fishmarket…read moreOahu and the original Nick's Fishmarket Chicago. I don't know what I'll do if I lose Nick's Maui. But I dither, Nick's Fishmarket Maui is in an incredible location inside the Fairmont Kea Lani and it's setting alone would be enough to pull me back even if the food was just okay. Thankfully the food is MUCH better than "just okay", it is generally outstanding. I rotate starters and salads because there are so many great choices. The Caesar Salad is about as good as they get, but I really, really like the Maui Greek Salad. With at least four people we start with the Seafood Tower, but find it just too big for two of us. Other than that the Kalua Pig Pot Stickers, Charred Octopus, Crab Cakes and Blackened Ahi are the starters I rotate through. For my Main, I am less eclectic. I have a hard time getting away from the Diver Scallops and Scampi. I have tried other dishes, the Abalone, Kona Lobster and Ribeye (I know, I know, who orders steak in a seafood restaurant), but I keep coming back to. For Dessert, I am also in a rut, but I love desserts they set on fire and in this case it is Bananas Foster. I do sneak bites off my DW's Creme Brulee, as does off my BF. The service is terrific, attentive without being intrusive. I used to joke about the Chicago store that if you knocked a spoon off the table someone would catch it before it hit the floor. The Maui service isn't quite that attentive and I am not sure I would want it to be.
