Overall, the food was good, but the restaurant felt a bit overrated and not worth a long wait. It was quite loud, and while the service was decent, nothing really stood out. The Ribeye was good but not worth the $72 price tag--it needed more flavor and didn't have much marbling. It had been many years since my last trip to Monkeypod, so we tried it out! This place runs like a machine- lots of tables, and almost always people waiting outside. We had a reservation and were seated within 10 minutes. It has a lively atmosphere with a lot of families and groups big and small. We decided to stick with drinks and appetizers. We had the Mai Tais, which were truly the best Mai Tais we had on our trip. The Lillikoi foam is unlike any other. We also had the ahi tacos and the lobster deviled eggs. Both dishes we enjoyed and would definitely order again. We finished with the banana cream pie- we asked our server for her recommendation and she suggested we add coconut shavings. It was delicious! We've tried many restaurants in Maui this week and MonkeyPod has hands down been both the best tasting and highest quality food we've had. Everything is so fresh and delicious I would eat here every day if we could. You can't go wrong with the house Mai Thai + cheeseburger with fresh fries. We had an outstanding experience from start to finish. We walked right in and sat at the bar, where Breanne took excellent care of us as both our bartender and server. She was attentive and friendly. We visited Merriman during our last visit to Maui, so this time we decided to check out their sister restaurant, Monkeypod Kitchen. The vibe is definitely more trendy and casual in comparison to its counterpart, with a vast menu of Hawaiian inspired/fusion dishes. We decided to try the: - Taro Ravioli - Waipoli Farm Organic Mixed Greens Salad - Organic Macadamia Nut Crusted Mahi Mahi - Lilikoi Foam Mai Tai (Original & NA Versions) The taro ravioli was the star of the meal with its unique flavor, followed by the freshness of the Mahi Mahi. They also knew we were sharing, so they conveniently split the Mahi Mahi for us in advance. You also can't go wrong with the infamous Mai Tais - the Lilikoi foam is -chef's kiss-! I highly recommend making reservations prior to visiting, as the restaurant does get pretty busy. We've been coming to Monkeypod for the Mai Tais for over 10 years, and this was the first time we had truly standout, memorable service from a bartender. Chris is hands down our favorite bartender at any Monkeypod we've visited! My husband and I stopped in during happy hour for drinks and checked in with the hostess. We noticed open tables and a few at the bar. Since we wanted drinks only, I headed to the bar to ask about it, and Chris warmly welcomed us and told us to let the hostess know you prefer bar seating and he'd be happy to serve us. From the moment we sat down, Chris was friendly, genuine, and engaging. He made us feel welcome whether we were ordering a Mai Tai or a ginger ale for my husband, who recently quit drinking. A great location spot to enjoy dinner with family or friends. The truffle fries are a must and so tasty especially with the aioli. The ahi tacos were also so fresh and so great! We got the pesto Hawaiian for the table as well which was surprisingly flavorful as well, it's a little sweet so it may not be for everyone. The ahi steak was so tasty and probably one of the best dishes of the night. For dessert we got the strawberry pie which was great but the guava wasn't my favorite topping to pair with it. I wish the orange creamsicle was on the menu similar to other locations. Granted we came for lunch and while I did enjoy what we ordered, I'm not sure what the fuss is all about. I'll admit, the fries were magnificent, and the burger tasty, and the poke nachos fresh and delicious, but nothing earth shattering. Good, maybe even great, but just not "wow.I'm so glad I waited 2 hrs for a table" great. Even the famous Mai Tai just met expectations. Pretty big place, and I'm glad we made a reservation. Unfortunately their pizza oven was broken that day, so foodwise, there weren't many happy hour options. That was a bummer, as we ended up spending a lot more than we intended. Came here just for the mai tai after a recommendation from a friend. We came at happy hour and there was no seating available inside, outside, or the bar. It was 30+ minutes just for the bar seating for 2. But, they said we could order at the bar and stand at the little counter along the balcony railing by the hostess stand to try the mai tai during happy hour. This was exceptionally crowded with people knocking into us a lot while waiting for tables, hostess, etc. so less than ideal atmosphere. The staff was kind to give us the option and the bartender was very quick, friendly, and shared how to best enjoy their version. The drink was the best mai tai we have had. The mai tai is a bit more bitter than others, but paired with the most luscious and sweet lilikoi foam balanced it and made it a perfect treat. That said, the volume was quite small for the price ($16 happy hour, $20 regular price) since the glass was bulky and there was quite a bit of ice. Summary: its amazing to try and maybe have as a special treat, but there are others that do the lilikoi foam and give 2+ times the volume for half the price. read more

We went to Monkeypod for dinner and it was amazing. We both started with mocktails- I got the noperol spritz while my husband got the virgin monkey pod mai tai. Both were very good and tasted like the real thing. We then got the lobster deviled eggs for an appetizer, and then the kalua pork and pineapple pizza and the fish tacos to share for our entree. The deviled eggs were really good and then the pizza I think was our favorite. Usually I'm not a pineapple on pizza person but this was perfectly done and not too overwhelming. Our waitress, Eryn, was fantastic- very friendly, knowledgeable, easy going, and attentive. Our menu.. ahhh. Just so diverse, unique, fresh, and flavorful. We had the roasted chicken wings to start, which were a refreshingly flavorful and unique take on the traditional wing appetizer. We normally can't have wings (typically fried) at a seaside place like this because of a shellfish allergy (they use the same oil) but the "roasted" part took care of that problem. Our first dinner in Maui on our first day. Made the reservation a few weeks before we flew. I felt we we're treated right and special. Our server made recommendations that we considered. It did not disappoint. Poke taco- the best appetizer for us. We returned here on our last day just for this. Fish is fresh and the sauce is spot on. Strawberry cream pie- is also very good. Not overly sweet. Perfect to finish a good meal. Banana cream pie- good too but strawberry is the best for me. Grilled ahi steak- cooked perfectly and seasoned well. Gnocchi- this is made fresh, but very heavy in my opinion. I think the olive oil is too much. Lamb- seasoned well and cooked just right. It's tender. They can get busy, the music I think is on the medium side. Highly recommended! If you don't make it to Mama's fish, it's okay. Go here instead. The espresso martini has a spicy kick, and the Mai Tai is smooth and sweet with that signature lilikoi foam. Food-wise, there are so many winners. The bulgogi tacos are one of my personal favorites, and the truffle fries are a must. Their pies are pretty darn good -- the strawberry pie is my favorite, but honestly you can't go wrong with any of them. I do wish they had a few more veggie-forward options, but what they do offer is consistently delicious, albeit a little salty (on more than one occasion). Service is fairly friendly (servers at least) the energy is upbeat, and everything from drinks to dessert hits the spot. It is a bit pricey for what it is and there is almost usually a wait. One star knocked off for them not allowing me to take my water bottle in (I'm a transplant patient and need filtered water). It wouldn't have been an issue if they sold bottled water, but they don't. We ordered the truffle fries, but what we got looked like the small, shriveled leftovers from the bottom of the basket. The burger was solid, but at $21 it should come with fries. The pizza was the biggest disappointment. It looked like something from a convenience store, topped with half a tomato and a single basil leaf. 8 of us were in a booth which might have been a tad squished but the vibes were great. We had Rachel as our server and she was AMAZING! My first time here. Lots of close parking, it's on the second floor there are stairs and an elevator. I strongly suggest you make a reservation on Open Table so you can get seated quickly when you arrive. There's lots of inside and outside seating. We were greeted and seated as soon as we arrived. Our waiter showed up quickly and took our drink orders he was very attentive and answered all our questions, even telling us a few funny dad jokes while we waited for our food. They are known for their mai tai and we agree they were delicous. They don't have a lunch menu-one menu for whole day with so many choices. There are happy hour specials but we weren't there durring that time. I ordered the macadamia crusted fish it was delicous and the rice and greens that came with it were perfectly cooked.
