Nick's Fishmarket Maui is a very long time favorite and I still mourn the loss of Nick's Fishmarket Oahu and the original Nick's Fishmarket Chicago. I don't know what I'll do if I lose Nick's Maui. But I dither, Nick's Fishmarket Maui is in an incredible location inside the Fairmont Kea Lani and it's setting alone would be enough to pull me back even if the food was just okay. Thankfully the food is MUCH better than "just okay", it is generally outstanding. I rotate starters and salads because there are so many great choices. The Caesar Salad is about as good as they get, but I really, really like the Maui Greek Salad. With at least four people we start with the Seafood Tower, but find it just too big for two of us. Other than that the Kalua Pig Pot Stickers, Charred Octopus, Crab Cakes and Blackened Ahi are the starters I rotate through. For my Main, I am less eclectic. I have a hard time getting away from the Diver Scallops and Scampi. I have tried other dishes, the Abalone, Kona Lobster and Ribeye (I know, I know, who orders steak in a seafood restaurant), but I keep coming back to. For Dessert, I am also in a rut, but I love desserts they set on fire and in this case it is Bananas Foster. I do sneak bites off my DW's Creme Brulee, as does off my BF. The service is terrific, attentive without being intrusive. I used to joke about the Chicago store that if you knocked a spoon off the table someone would catch it before it hit the floor. The Maui service isn't quite that attentive and I am not sure I would want it to be. read more

We love the bar here and return every trip. The sashimi is always - as it was this time - off the charts delicious and fresh. We also ordered the B&B ahi which was also delicious and fresh and ever so slightly seared. Both are worth the trip and the money. From there we started to feel like second class citizens. Hubs ordered the lamb while I had mahi mahi tacos (I didn't have a huge appetite). I would not order the tacos again. Table next to us raved about them and although the tortilla and the fish were fresh, the 'blackened' seasoning did me in. Overkill on a nicely cooked piece of fish - hard pass. Lamb, although cooked properly, (and I thought interestingly presented but) hubs is a meat guy and felt all the additions - sauce, relish, goat cheese - was overkill. Have to also say he didn't enjoy the waiter taking his knife to hand prepare a bite the way he thought it should be eaten. We barely saw him after that which further soured the experience. He vanished after the big ticket part of the meal (the 82$ lamb) and mentioned a comped panna cotta for our anniversary after we'd ordered a paid desert. Oops we owe you that next time (but you'll take our money today) Our food runner was great! Super upbeat, always with a smile. Bar area was relatively quiet until it wasn't. We wouldn't spend $350 this way again but would sit at the bar for sashimi and bounce. read more

We had a beautiful view from our table during the sunset conch shell blowing, which was a memorable way to end the evening. We could see the colors of the sunset over the trees. Tip: Bring a credit card, since you cannot charge this restaurant to your hotel room if you are staying at the Fairmont. read more

The service was good and our table was great-only thing is we were seated next to one of those torches and the smell started to become noticeable towards the end of our stay. Nick's Fishmarket used to be one of my faves, but... ATMOSPHERE: It looks pretty much the same since we've first dined here. Still open-air with covered lanai seating overlooking the pool. MENU: I wish they change that horrible font they use on the menu. It's very cheap-looking and contradicts the menu's delightful selections - a stronghold of American dishes but now with less of a Hawaiian aspect. FOOD: Seafood Chowder Served warm but not searing hot, the white chowder was creamy and seasoned well, with a fair amount of protein and topped with a mini crab cake. Fresh Island Catch Picatta The fish was monchong, cooked nicely but with disproportionate seasoning as parts of the filet had no flavor. What looked like risotto was actually farrotto, a wheat that looks and tastes similar to the former, but wasn't seasoned at all, akin to eating plain rice. The capers and sauce gave the dish some life but it was very disappointing and bland for $69. DESSERT: New York Style Cheesecake Drizzled with strawberry sauce and topped with fresh strawberries, the medium-density cake was good but a tad overly sweet for me. SERVICE: Host service was good. Entrees came out while we were still finishing up the appetizers which drives me crazy. Where's the timing? The male server was very shy with no personality and seemed either inexperienced or anxious to leave work. When he presented himself, he just stood at the table's side without any verbal communication. Peppering our dishes got maybe 3/4 of a twist from the grinder, not till we said "when". He checked on us just once near the end of our entrees, not soon after they were presented. Bill drop off was accompanied by him muttering "check"? No "thank you" or even "have a pleasant evening". Nothing. It felt like pay and get the hell out. OVERALL: A fall from grace. Substandard service with a downward turn in cuisine. read more

If I could give this place 6 stars I would. The best service I've got on any of the Hawaiian islands thus far. Our waiter Devin was on top of everything, when wed go to order a drink, he'd already have it ready for us. He was so attentive, and personable. They also gave us a free desert to celebrate our nuptials. The view from the table was amazing, the nighttime ceremony was super cool though the guy could've been just a little bit louder. We headed here after watching a beautiful sunset at the beach just a half a mile away. Didn't realize until we arrived that the restaurant was in the Fairmont resort. It was decorated beautifully for Christmas. We went to checkin at the restaurant after looking around a bit. We waited at the bar for about 15 minutes until our table was ready. We had arrived about 30 minutes ahead of our reservation time. We were seated and then our wonderful dining experience began. Started off with seafood chowder for me and the Caesar salad for my husband. Then I ordered the scallops and shrimp with tortellini and my husband had the Mahi Mahi special. Our son was tearing us to dinner for Christmas and he had looked yay their menu online and told us we had to have the strawberries for dessert. So we did. oh my goodness!! It was a treat for all your senses. I myself had to add a crème brûlée too bc it's my all time favorite. Both were delicious and we savored every bite. 6 of us went here for dinner last night. The restaurant is sort of inside sort of outside feel which is really cool and beautiful. Started with the octopus, potstickers and oysters. The oysters were delicious. The way they delivered them were YUMMY. Our server Brennan was VERY CHILL, maybe a little too chill. The orders for my parents weren't super accurate and he didn't seem to know how to respond in terms of fixing the issues. My spiny lobster tail was delicious. Don't waste your time nor money at this place! Very condescending / sarcastic bartenders! Meet a friend for happy hour there. What a mistake. From the minute we arrived they acted unhappy we were even there! I was talking about ordering a certain drink to my friend (hadn't ordered it yet) about fifteen minutes later decided to get it and the bartender took a drink from behind the bar already made and gave it to me. Watered down sat there for at least 10 minutes drink. He had made it before I ordered it and let it sitting there ice melted. Then gave it to me. I wish I had ordered something else! I said "what's this" and he walked away. I said I wanted to see it being made. No reply. Ordered oysters on the half shell because they were supposed to be fresh. When I got them they had some kind of sauce on them. Couldn't tell if they're fresh or not. Not a good flavor. Asked for cocktail sauce. Not at all what I expected nor liked. Then a salad. So-so! Tried a glass of wine. Way over priced! Will not be going back. There are so many wonderful places to go for happy hour. Will never be going back to Nicks! read more

For shared appetizers we ordered the lump crab cake & strawberry-beet salad. The crab cakes are small and the strawberry-beet salad is refreshing. We ordered the Potato Scaled Mahi Mahi, Ginger-Soy Marinated Ahi, & Moroccan Spiced Salmon as our entrees. All of their fish entrees are moist and cooked perfectly. **BETTER THAN MAMA'S FISH HOUSE** Don't shoot the messenger. AMBIANCE (4/5): You can see the ocean while dining out on the patio. It's inside the FAIRMONT HOTEL. I LOVE this hotel! Walk down a picturesque staircase to get to the restaurant from the lobby entrance. Don't forget some photo ops if you're dining when the sunsets for the perfect "golden hour" glow! SERVICE (3/5): We came with a large party (10+) and dined VERY EARLY, so no one was there except a few tables and us and service was TOP NOTCH at the beginning. But as we were nearing dessert the whole restaurant filled up and they pretty much forgot about us for 30 minutes while we waited for our desserts. If it wasn't for this one thing, it would be a 5 star review. We were literally just trying to pay and leave since we waited so long and almost cancelled our dessert, but we were celebrating a few birthdays and wanted them to have their dessert. FOOD (5/5): The food is 100% better here than at Mama's Fish House! I think the trendiness is the only thing that's holding Mama's Fish House. We just had an amazing evening at Nicks Fish Market. From the minute we arrived, we knew we were about to have a great evening. The host was so welcoming and took us to our seat. Once seated, we met Raiden, our wait staff. He was the best! He got us settled in and shared the drink list and menu. We ordered our drinks - my husband ordered the manhattan which was perfect, then we ordered escargot for our appetizer. Everything was very yummy. Then my husband had the Opakapaka sautéed in Lemon, Butter & Capers, Farrotto, Broccolini, 24 Hour Tomato Puree. Excellent! I had the B&B appetizer. The ahi was absolutely great with so much flavor. At the end of the evening Raiden brought my husband a dessert with a lit candle to celebrate his birthday. The topping to a wonderful night. Raiden was incredible making our evening special. I first dined at Nick's over twenty years ago. For many years since then, I told friends this restaurant was hit or miss. Sometimes the meal was great and other times it was just okay. After having had terribly overcooked fish one night, I avoided going there. More recently, I gave them another chance and am glad I did. The setting and service have always been pleasant, but the current kitchen staff finally match those elements. I have had three consistently excellent meals at Nick's. Most recently, my husband and I shared the ahi sashimi appetizer, kalua pork potstickers, and we each had monchong in the nightly-special preparation. The sashimi was melt-in-your-mouth, with no tough fibers. The flavor of the kalua pork in the potstickers is classic. The monchong was perfectly cooked. Nick's is outside, so if you are eating early and the sun will be up I highly recommend asking for a shaded table. I am pleased to say that this restaurant is finally well worth a visit! read more

Perfection start to finish. We ate here tonight during height of Kona storm - blowing, torrential rain, but clearly the chef was on point - food was delicious. Service even better. Food mediocre at best and overpriced. Yes this is at a resort so we expected the high prices. We ordered the happy hour parmisean fries and Brussel sprouts. The Brussel sprouts were large, underdone and very greasy. The fries had no taste. We also ordered the filet and spiny lobster. The fliet had good flavor but was orders medium rare, was almost rare and the spiny lobster was undercooked (still transulcent). The risotto with the lobster was the saving grace although lacked mushroom taste despite the few shimeji and shiitake mushrooms scattered throughout. I can't remember our waiters name but he was probably one of the best waiters I've ever had (and we eat at high end restaurants a lot). He really stood out. The food was great! My only complaint is the scallops dish was tiny, it did not fill me up but it was delicious! The fish entrees and specials portions were huge though! Drinks were also great and they comped a drink and a dessert for my mom for her bday. Overlooking the beautiful Fairmont Kea Lani, the views are excellent. We were seated at an outdoor table, just in time to start watching the sun set. We started with the charred octopus an an appetizes, which was delicious. I had the Blood Orange Old Fashioned and she had the Mai Tai. For the main course, we both went with the special, the opakapaka. This is also recommended by our friend. It was AMAZING. Probably the best piece of fish I've ever had. Service was excellent from start to finish. This was the perfect spot for our fancy dinner while on Maui. It certainly wasn't cheap, but for a very special dinner, it was worth it. read more
