My cousins and I went to Pilina for Happy Hour. Happy Hour is between 4:30-5:30 pm. The selection was ok, wish there was sushi rolls available on the Happy Hour Menu although the Dinner Menu was available so we ordered Signature Sushi Rolls too. We ordered 3 items from the Happy Hour Menu: Tuna Crunch, Sunomono, and Kimchi Dip. Tuna Crunch and Sunomono was my favorite. The Tuna Crunch had garlic chips, chili crunch, and ponzu sauce poured over table side. The Sunomono looked simple with a stack of cucumbers but it also had the most addictive sauce of Garlic Tamari, Chili Crunch and Micro Cilantro. The Kimchi Dip was delicious but I'm not a huge fan of Yorkshire Puddings and would rather had crostini's or bread for dipping. My cousin ordered an Old Fashioned and a Manhattan and he said the drinks were made real good. Another cousin and I opted for Alcohol free drinks, my cousin had one with grapefruit and I enjoyed my "martini" with mango and lilikoi (passion fruit). The Signature Sushi Rolls were delicious. We shared the Anuenue (Rainbow) which included Crab, Ahi, Salmon, Hamachi and Ebi and the Nani (Beautiful) which included Spicy Salmon, Cucumber, Avocado, Yakiniku Sauce, Sweet Soy and Micro Greens. We also ordered the Katsu Pork Belly which our bartender recommended. There's 6 crispy pieces atop Rice, Katsu Sauce, Cabbage and Japanese Curry Mayo. My cousin got the Hot Rock Maui Nui Venison Striploin which was cooked on the Hot Rock for 15 seconds per side and served with 4 Homemade Tortillas and Shiso Chimichurri. Overall, food was pretty good but of course quite expensive and located on a tourist spot. Thankful for Kamaaina discount and the beautiful sunset views! read more

In the fairmont kea lani. Go for the view and the service. Sat at the bar. View was absolutely stunning. High up and looking down across the fairmont kea lani and down on the sunset. Epic. Bartender was amazing. Fun and ffriendly..a tad of sass (just enough) Food was super expensive and just ok. Edamame was flavorless. $50 for the volcano roll and it really only tasted like the fresh pepper on top. Though when one popped off the roll underneath was just OK too. A stunning bar with an excellent sunset view framed through the window behind the bar. We arrived late at night after our flight and wanted a light snack and a drink for our first night back in Maui. We ordered sushi and the edamame. The edamame portion is generous--easily enough to share between two, or even four. We ended up eating quite a bit, which worked well since it's healthy, low-carb, and filling enough that I didn't feel the need to order edamame again for the rest of the tri. 8-) The space includes smaller seating areas with sofas and tables that feel more like living rooms than a typical bar. Our waiter was very kind and personable, often squatting down to speak with us and nearby tables. I genuinely admired his flexibility and stamina. At the fairmont. Free valet. Restaurant is tucked in the left side as you walk towards the lobby. Open seating. Came here twice in a week. Thursday with a happy hour special and then again Saturday. Amazing bartenders both days! Great view as well! Would be nice if they had a bit more appetizer option. The sumonomo was sooooo good the first time with the chili crunch. When I ordered it the second time on Sat, definitely not sure what happened... it was not the same chili crunch ‍ Duck takoyaki was ok--- not something to die for but having duck just "elevates the dish". Somehow I still preferred octopus. The fried mushroom was bomb! Rolls are ok... nothing really spectacular. Drinks were amazing!!! Would come back for sure. read more

TLDR; A beautiful atmosphere in an open air bar, nestled in the lobby of Fairmont. Delicious drinks, nice food options, but slightly over valued for what you get. This restaurant is beautiful with amazing views. Great vibes and friendly staff- I tried all their specialty Maui island cocktails. The makai is by far the best of the 3, lightly tart with a bit of citrus flavor and perfectly balanced. The food was good but not sure if worth the value, the edamame is what you'd expect but nothing special. The rainbow roll was very good and fresh- a blend of different fish on top and had a nice flavor. The sashimi was good but wasn't the best I've had especially for the price you pay. Overall I would return for light bites or even just a couple drinks and no food. read more

Private event review: My dear friend hosted her pre-wedding friends and family gathering here, and as her MoH, I couldn't have imagined a more perfect spot for her and her fiance. It was gorgeous and glamorous, and suited them to a tee. The food was endless platters of perfectly made, perfectly fresh sushi rolls (heaven!), and the cocktails were fresh and delicious. Service was smooth and attentive, the way any private party shouldn't be, and we had free reign to wander the beautiful White Lotus-esque Fairmont grounds and take as many photos as we wanted to make ourselves look like 1%ers. read more

He was Very welcoming and always so attentive. The place was beautiful architecture, it was giving Greece (Santorini like). We walked around the lobby and checked out the Hotel pool before walking In. There is no welcome guest or hostess. You just walk in and find a seat then greeted by a server. If you are looking for a cocktail hour or even cocktails before dinner, I would highly recommend going to Pilina as the customer service, food/drinks, as well as the views were simply amazing! Pilina is located inside of the Fairmount Kea Lani. It is a bit harder to find if you are not a guest, so I would suggest asking someone where to go as it is a bit of a walk once you arrive inside. After reviewing the menu, we decided to go with their California Roll as a an appetizer and Butterfly for a King, and Tropics in Bloom for our drink selections and here is what we thought and how we rate it: California Roll 5/5: This roll features a crab mix made mostly of perfectly cooked crab. Not only is the crab inside the roll, but there's also a generous serving layered on top. The flavor was superb, showing how a simple roll can shine with the right twist. It was easily the most satisfying California roll we've ever had thanks to the amount of crab, and for the price, it's an absolute must-try. Butterfly For a King 5/5: This is a fun vacation take on an old fashion that can allow anyone to enjoy it. As a part time an old fashion drinker (thanks to my boyfriend) this was a tropical twist on a drink he loves. The whiskey is slightly hidden behind the strawberry, orange, and lemon flavors allowing you to enjoy while taking in the lovely venue and views of the ocean. It was the perfect drink for cocktail hour. Tropics in Bloom 5/5: This cocktail captured the feeling of being on vacation! It's a refreshing spin on a fruity martini, elevated with floral notes. A friend wanted to check out Wailea's newest bar. ATMOSPHERE: They are the Kea Lani's new open-air lobby bar. I don't know the details of the past, only that the space used to be meeting rooms. What a better use of space and more so with the view, as sunsets are killer. The vibe is that of a swanky backyard, complete with live music, gazebos with swinging chairs, lounge sofas and a spacious bar top. Smoky aromas from the sushi bar wafted us throughout our evening, but in a good way. MENU: Extensive sushi selection, handful of tiny-portioned "dinners", kid's menu. Full bar menu including sake and numerous spirits. BEVERAGE: Makai - $34.00 This is by far the most expensive single cocktail I've had! Citrusy, a bit tart but very smooth and was served in a fancy glass that reminded me of Superman's Fortress of Solitude. The toppings of furikake (Japanese-style seaweed) and ogo (Hawaiian-style seaweed) were so slight, they were more of a visual effect than anything. Tropics In Bloom - $24.00 A better value than the Makai, I also liked its fizziness and berry flavor more than the former. FOOD: Togarashi Macadamia Nuts & Wasabi Peas These were included with our drinks. I don't like wasabi so I didn't have the peas but the mac nuts were good, similar to a honey roasted flavor & stickiness with a bit of heat. King Salmon - $36.00 & Marinated Maitake Mushroom - $19.00 These two items are part of their Hot Rock Menu, meaning you're cooking it yourself on a 900-degree stone that's brought to the table. The salmon consisted of just four semi-thick slices which wore out the hot stone after cooking on both sides. Not worth the price due to its petite portion. Another hot stone was brought out for the maikate grilling. The half-bunch of mushrooms had a tasty marinade to them and went well with the salmon. Maui Nui Venison Sliders - $26.00 (2 pcs.) Served warm on pillowy buns, the patty was moist & savory, with a slight tang and sweetness from the grilled onions. My spouse and friend also enjoyed the Rainbow, Alii and Lobster Rolls. They came served on a warm marble slab which I found odd as you'd think it'd be cold. DESSERT: Sichuan Pepper And Clove Flourless Chocolate Torte - $16.00 Velvety smooth with complimenting flavors of chocolate & orange. SERVICE: No host stand was seen so I'm assuming it's seat yourself. Chad, the bartender, was awesome. Very friendly, engaging and professional. TIP: Kama'aina discount available. Two drinks to call out that are popular on the menu.... Volano House - is essentially a well crafted smokey Old Fashioned with a ting of sweet flavoring. It's a fun watch especially as the smoke rolls out of the glass. Makai: Toward the Sea - is beautifully crafted featuring its very unique appearance and speciality glassware however the drink itself tastes just like scooping up a cup of ocean. It's very marine like from the sea asparagus to the Maui based Ocean Vodka which essentially tastes like sea water. Take that as you wish. View is nice as is the people watching. read more

We enjoyed a wonderful evening celebrating our anniversary with family. The setting is beautiful with warm wood accents, cozy seating nooks, gorgeous views, and lovely live music. The food was delicious and so were the cocktails - I loved the Mauka and my husband got the Volcano House. The sushi was top notch as were the desserts! Our server was fantastic and definitely steered us in the right direction for all of our drink and food choices. This restaurant/bar is in the lobby of the Fairmont Kea Lani Hotel. I ate there several times during my stay. The prices are somewhat outrageous but the sushi is very fresh and very good. My only complaint is that some of the rolls fall apart very easily. The service is also somewhat inconsistent. I had the best server, Ivan, who constantly made an effort to make our dining experience 100% better and brought out my food within 15 minutes. I was lucky to meet Ivan and all of the other employees at the restaurant as they made my time at Pilina welcoming and unforgettable. I ordered one of best, if not the best, sushi rolls of my life through my waiters recommendation and it was absolutely delicious. The live music in the restaurant consisted of a beautiful and vibrant setlist that blended perfectly with the atmosphere of the restaurant.
