Hanger Steak, sweet potato entree, and pork shoulder special
    Holyn A.

Beautiful view, amazing food, and excellent service. The Hanger Steak was flavorful with a great char and delicious gravy sauce. The Pork Special was packed with flavor, and the Sweet Potato Entrée was a standout with the yogurt, macadamia nut crunch, and crispy skin adding great texture and taste. Everything felt thoughtfully prepared, and the gorgeous setting made it even more memorable. Looking forward to coming back and trying more of the menu!

Location: Situated in Wailea, near the resorts. Easy to get to and has plenty of parking. Reservations: Easy to make online. Service: Our service was excellent. Our server was kind, helpful, and attentive. We were seated prompty and the hostess was also very nice. Ambiance: The ambiance here was beautiful. We were seated on their outside patio and were able to watch the sun set. The tables are spaced well and the atmosphere is clean and fresh. When we were in Maui, it was a few weeks after a lot of rain so we did had a lot of gnats, however, the restaurant did their best to try to keep them away (and of course nature is out of their control). DRINKS: We each had a cocktail- unfortunately I do not remember the names. Mine was a take on an Old fashioned with cherry and it was delicious. My partner had a refreshing fruit forward cocktail that was also very good. FOOD: "Maui hot" crispy calamari with black garlic ranch dressing-- we loved this dish. The Calamari was fresh, with a nice crisp. The breading was seasoned well. The black garlic dip was also unique and complimented the Calamari. My partner had the rigatoni with dry aged wagyu and basil. The sauce was flavorful and the parmesan was a nice addition. Overall, a good dish but did not feel exceptional. I ordered the special of the night- which was a Lobster spaghetti with capers, spinach, and blistered tomatoes. The lobster itself was really nice, cooked well and very tender. Unfortunately the pasta itself was significantly under cooked so it was very chewy and it made it hard to enjoy the dish. There were also a lot of capers- they overpowered the flavor of the lobster. The presentation was also a bit underwhelming- it looked like they just scooped it onto the side of the plate. I would not order this dish again. Overall this was a nice dinner with lovely ambiance and service. We might order some different items next time.

    Ahi sashimi

Best meal we had on our entire trip, the only meal where we loved every single item that we got and wish we had the budget and stomachs to get more! We were greeted with a very warm welcome from the hostess and had an amazing waitress who was really enthusiastic and really good at what she does. She gave us really thorough descriptions of all the specials and was very accomodating. Try to go during sunset and request seats by the view on the balcony, it is so beautiful with the sunset shining over the trees and hills My favorite items were the raw of the day specials - a tuna tartare and an ahi sashimi. Both with bold unique flavors and very fresh fish. The drinks here were also our favorite from all the restaurants during our trip - spicy margarita was so bomb, that salty foam on top is so unique rather than a rim

With just one dinner left to book, I turned to Yelp and you all delivered with a recommendation for Koast, which I had never heard of - I think they are new since our last visit to the island a couple years ago. Located across the street from the Shops at Wailea, they are situated on the second floor of a smaller shopping complex and have a lot of open air seating. With all the doors open, even the indoor seating has good ventilation. The food was outstanding - every dish was bursting with flavor and contrasting textures. Make sure to listen for the numerous daily specials. My favorite dishes of the night were probably the starters and the desserts. One of the starters was a special - ahi sashimi with shaved hearts of palm, citrus, micro greens, and some sort of spicy oil - so it had elements of salt, sweet, tart, and spicy with softness, crunch, and chew. Even my vegetable, sauce, and garnish hating daughter absolutely loved this dish. The calamari was also a standout - the breading was crispy and had a nice kick to it. We ordered the ahi entree as well, and it was also delicious, as was the cauliflower, which visually wasn't that appealing since it wasn't roasted, but it was absolutely delicious. Dessert options were communicated verbally by our server (they must change frequently). We opted for the ginger molasses cake, which was suffused with ginger flavor and doused in a ginger-infused syrup - like a sticky toffee cake but better. The vanilla bean panna cotta was also delicious - a more delicate dessert - though the strawberries were not the sweetest. Service was great and attentive when we first arrived at 5:30. As the restaurant got busier, it became harder to find our server. We waited for quite a while after we finished our dinner. Fortunately, they had a lot of people attending to the tables and when we asked them for a dessert menu, they were able to track down our server. All in all, a fantastic dinner. We are excited to add this restaurant to our Wailea list and look forward to returning upon our next visit.

After two birthday dinners the previous two years at Mama's Fish House, I decided to try somewhere new. When I heard that Chef Chris Cosentino was behind Koast in South Maui, I knew that was where I wanted to spend my last birthday. I did unintentionally get a whole roasted Kona Kampachi for the second year in a row, but his version with green papaya slaw did not disappoint. Although it is pricy, it is enough for 2-3 with no additional food required to leave satisfied. With their own meat and fish locker on display, can't get fresher than this and they are more than happy to explain what's in there for the next day's preparation. If we weren't staying in W Maui, I would be tempted to return to be that one lucky person the next day to have one of the rarer fishes that he claims taste like lobster. If only I can remember the name, but at least I have the picture now.

This maybe the be the best restaurant in Wailea, it id at least the best restaurant we have eaten at on our trip and that includes meals at the Four Seasons and Grand Wailea resorts. From the moment you enter Koast you know it is different (in a good way). It is beautifully decorated in a modern Boho costal theme that is amazing and nothing is left mediocre. The service is professional, friendly and attentive and the menu is simple, elegant and has something for everyone. The food simply amazing, everything is served is a beautiful dish and plates to perfection. Every bit is full of flavor and the combinations and perfectly selected to play off one another. You can't go wrong eating here and if you are on vacation in Maui and don't try this place you are missing out on something spectacular!!!

    Tuna with passionfruit sauce
    Sarah E.

We were excited to try this restaurant because we enjoy chef Chris Constentino, the issue came with ME not knowing they call passionfruit LILIKOI in hawaii (I hate it) We started with the Waygu Tataki and it was amazing and then we both had the tuna with lilikoi sauce. My husband loved it, the tuna was amazing, the spice crusting the outside was great.

Kind of torn on this one. Overall, drinks and food were great. I had some unique flavors and ingredients I hadn't tried before. Went for a bday and they had a dessert for the bday girl! Very pretty inside and we sat kind of on the outside patio balcony. Perfect weather. Servers were attentive. appetizers were amazing. charred octopus toast was a favorite and the nduja in it was new to me. Tastes similar to a chorizo. It's a must order. The other entrees were standard so just order to your taste preferences. Was really disappointed by the Wagyu ribeye steak. I've had my fair share of steaks and I've had plenty that were not only cheaper but way better than this one. For $185 it felt like a scam. It was tender but the marbling was lacking. Something you expect from a ribeye. This place is good for a nice dinner but save your monis and skip the steak

Great atmosphere! Incredible interior design. Rigatoni was wonderful. signature cocktail was great as well, same with the cherry old-fashioned. Service staff is very friendly and accommodating and efficient. The chicken dish fell short a little bit for the price that it was at, the chicken was actually well cooked and quite juicy but it just didn't have the it factor.. it didn't titillate me.

I went to Koast for dinner with my wife to celebrate my birthday this month. I heard about it through reddit and people online who liked Lineage recommended it (I too really like Lineage). Koast is definitely more upscale than Lineage and the vibes are really nice, with a beautiful view of the sunset. We got seated outside with a nice view since we had a reservation for 5pm. Our server recommended a lot of different dishes, so we ended up ordering the whole roasted kona kanpachi, ember roasted cabbage, and milk bread. The whole roasted kona kanpachi was the best roasted fish we have ever eaten. It was also a huge portion because it is supposed to serve 2-3 people. We definitely could've fed 3 or even 4 with a couple sides to share, but we did our best to eat this perfectly cooked fish with the side papaya salad and fish sauce (nuoc cham) dressing. The miso roasted cabbage was also a hit, but I think we could've done without the milk bread. After devouring most of our giant entree, we then were convinced by our server again to order the pineapple dessert - the pineapple shell is frozen and filled with Italian meringue, pineapple semifreddo, and passionfruit sauce while the inside fruit is sous-vided, roasted, and carmelized on the side. It was a little bit sweet for me, but my wife really enjoyed it. I think that it could've had more semifreddo because the passionfruit was a bit overpowering, but overall it was a very creative and well-presented dessert. We also really enjoyed the non-alcoholic ube horchata, but they have a lot of interesting looking cocktails as well. Overall, really enjoyed this spectacular meal at Koast and would definitely recommend it to others looking for a special occasion spot on Maui.

    Collard green salad ($18)
    Jennifer H.

Came here for dinner with a reservation. The ambiance is upscale, and the service was great (friendly and frequently filled our waters). My fiancé and I shared the collard green salad with the pork viniagrette on the side ($18). The salad was just ok in my opinion. The pork viniagrette was cool because it had actually pork pieces on it, but it was way too salty. For entrees, I got the onaga bouillabaisse ($65), and my fiancé got the surf and turf ($85). The onaga fish was super tasty! The texture was soft and so good! It could have been a little less salty (I already asked for less salt), and the fish skin could have been crispier. The dish was quite expensive for just the fish and a few pieces of vegetables. I tried the lobster and steak in my fiancé's dish. The lobster was tender and delicious, but the steak was a little too chewy for my preference. My fiancé loved his dish though!

Friendly and attentive service, relatively new space that feels fresh, not touristy, has great views and a menu that's very farm to table. Have visited twice in the past 2 months and very much enjoyed every dish I've had. Highlights were the: - raw tuna ceviche special - hamachi wood fired collar with Thai basil - all the steak is cooked to perfection including the hangar steak Have recommended to friends and would definitely come back

A few months ago, I made a reservation at Koast, Chef Chris Cosentino's new spot in Wailea, to celebrate my other half's birthday. Having tried most of the restaurants in the area, we were excited to experience something new, and Koast (which just opened late last year) was my top choice. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly and seated in a cozy waiting area. The first thing I noticed were the dry agers along the wall -- a small detail that instantly made me think, "Okay, this place is serious about their craft." The décor was beautiful too; modern yet inviting, with ocean-inspired touches that gave it that perfect "koastal" feel. It almost felt like we were transported somewhere along the Mediterranean. The menu was on the smaller side, but in a good way -- thoughtfully curated and refreshingly different from the usual offerings on Maui. There's an emphasis on fresh, locally sourced ingredients and creative flavor combinations. Seafood lovers will be happy here (fish, octopus, and more), but there are a handful of other proteins too. I went for the Koast Surf & Turf, which changes daily and gives you the best of both worlds (just a heads up -- it's market price). We started with the charred octopus toast, milk bread, and watermelon tomato salad, then shared the Westholme Wagyu NY strip and Koast Surf & Turf (shrimp, scallops, a lobster tail, and steak). My husband had an old fashioned, and I went for the zero-proof tropical mule. Dessert was the lychee donuts, made with ricotta cheese, a cardamom + orange sauce, served with ice cream (vanilla, I think) and a sparkler for the birthday boy which was a fun touch. Everything tasted pretty good! It was a little vegetable heavy for my liking, but a few dishes really stood out. The milk bread was pure buttery, pillowy goodness with just the right amount of salt to balance it all out. The lychee donuts were another favorite; not everyone may love the flavor combo, but we absolutely did. My husband said they reminded him of gulab jamun, which I could see. I would totally go back just to enjoy the donuts again! He also really enjoyed the watermelon tomato salad and thought the addition of nori was really clever. Overall, Koast was such a refreshing and memorable dining experience. It's the kind of place that rewards an adventurous palate -- creative, nicely executed, and unlike anything else in Wailea right now. Service was also superb and attentive. We definitely splurged a bit for the occasion, but it was absolutely worth it. A wonderful spot for a fancy, delicious dinner and a great choice for celebrating. Definitely recommend!

    Ask the Community - Koast

Do they have a corkage fee?

    Yes. $35 per bottle.

Do they have a surcharge for using a credit card?

The restaurant does not charge an additional fee for using a credit card.

Is this restaurant suitable for children?

Yes. It's the best restaurant I've been to on Maui!! Worth going even with kids.

Is the restaurant in a hotel? Or is it a stand alone?

It's in the WAILEA VILLAGE 116 Wailea Ike Wailea HI 96753. It's in the same shopping center as Akamai coffee on the 2nd level, right above Kohola Brewery. Hope that helps!

Is there a corkage fee when you bring your own wine?

No there isn't a fee right now. But I assume once they obtain their liquor license they'll charge you.

However, the owner took the time to respond and explain that the entire shopping center wing was experiencing cooling issues and that the restaurant was dealing with significant staffing shortages at the time. While that doesn't completely change the experience we had, I appreciate that the owner acknowledged the challenges and responded professionally rather than dismissing the feedback. One observation I would offer is that, as a customer, it was difficult to tell who was serving tables. I noticed several employees in Pint & Cork shirts moving around the restaurant, but only saw a couple of servers actively covering the dining area. It's possible some staff were assigned to bartending or other responsibilities, but from the guest perspective it gave the impression that table service was understaffed while other employees appeared unavailable. I still think there is room for improvement in the flow and logistics on the floor, but I appreciate the owner's willingness to engage with feedback and explain the circumstances. That being said, I would be willing to give the restaurant another chance. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATED REVIEW AFTER OWNER'S RESPONSE: 6.21.26 I appreciate the response. It's telling that you addressed the air conditioning, disputed the gender of an employee, and questioned whether I was even there, yet didn't meaningfully respond to the concerns about service, timing, attentiveness, or food quality. If a customer leaves with a poor experience, the question isn't whether they perfectly recalled every detail. The question is why they left with that impression in the first place. I suspect future readers can draw their own conclusions from both the review and the response. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Probably the most disappointing dining experience of our Hawaii trip. We specifically asked to sit indoors because we wanted a break from the Maui heat after spending the day outside. Unfortunately, we quickly realized there was no air conditioning, making the indoor seating barely any cooler than outside. The restaurant also felt severely understaffed. It took around 10 minutes just to get a Diet Coke, and every time I asked for assistance, the woman working at the register seemed to defer the request rather than help or find someone who could. Meanwhile, some employees appeared more interested in chatting than helping customers, while only one or two staff members seemed to be working the floor. I understand restaurants get busy, especially in a tourist area, but the issue wasn't just the wait--it was the feeling that customer service wasn't a priority. As for the food, it was nothing special. I ordered a steak that had a nice smoky flavor, but it arrived well done and overcooked. The rest of the meal was average at best and definitely not memorable enough to make up for the service issues. Between the lack of air conditioning, slow service, inattentive staff, and mediocre food, this was one of the few places in Hawaii where I genuinely regretted spending my money. Considering the location at The Shops at Wailea and the prices being charged, I expected a much higher level of hospitality and execution. There are far too many great dining options in Wailea to come back here.

Bill was $175.00 which was $150.00 too much! if your going out for dinner and want n upscale experince on Maui go to Mama's or the Four Seasons where you hvea really good chance of finding some good food!
