First time at Koast and it did not disappoint. The welcoming open air entrance and breezy restaurant was full and lively when we arrived. Sat outside along the patio which was a perfect setting for our family gathering. All the food was spectacular. Started with seared tuna and tuna tartare, had two of their fantastic roasted red pepper breaded prawns, the beef rigatoni for the table and I enjoyed the surf n turf. Drinks were great and came out quickly. Service from start to finish was perfect as they were constantly checking on us and assisting with recommendations throughout the meal. KOAST was another great find during our Maui trip. From the minute we walked in, we loved the vibe. It has that relaxed Maui feel, beautiful surroundings, and an atmosphere that makes you want to sit back, have a cocktail, and just enjoy the evening. The service was honestly one of the highlights. Our waiter was super friendly, attentive, and really knew the menu. Even though our food took longer than expected, the staff kept checking on us and making sure we were taken care of. That kind of service goes a long way. I started with a White Cap Negroni, which was excellent. For dinner, we tried the Kanpachi Minestrone fish, Fresh Pork belly, and as an appetizer, the Pineapple Tacos. Everything was really good, but the Pineapple Tacos were probably our favorite. Lots of flavor and definitely something different. The only real negative was the wait for the food. It took quite a while to come out, and when you're hungry, you definitely notice it. Thankfully, the great service and drinks helped make the wait a lot easier. If I could give ZERO stars I would. Absolutely horrendous service by our waiter David (who we found out after our meal is part owner of this establishment). We had reservations for 615 pm. 738 pm and our dinner had not come out. There was an approx 30 min lag between when they cleared our table of our appetizers to when our entrees came out. We literally sat there for 30 min wondering where our food was. David did not come by once. Not even to say- so sorry for the wait or is there anything I can do for you. Not once throughout our meal did David check on us and ask how we were doing. We should have known when he took approx 15-20 min just to get our orders after we relayed we were ready to order. While going to the restroom we saw David yelling at his busser in the hallway. After dinner we had to ask for a dessert menu and had to ask our busser to send our waiter David over a few times during the night because David was MIA. When David finally made it over he said "I was told you guys needed me". Not how was your appetizers, not how was dinner, not is there anything you need. But we did get a- I was told you guys needed me. After dinner was over we brought up our concerns with management- NOT knowing David (our waiter) was a co-owner. Quite frankly David just did not give a shit. Maybe it was because we were one of the few locals patronizing his establishment. He seemed attentive to the other tables he was waiting on, making small talk about meteors. Once he knew we were not happy, instead of making things right he gave us the cold shoulder and ignored us completely (not sure how that's even possible because the service was already bad). He did not come back to our table at all after that. When I say ignored us you could feel it and he made it quite obvious. Our busser was amazing and so was Jason who helped us after David ignored us. David you should take some customer service etiquette tips from your staff. Went back to Koast based on our first experience for my daughter-in-laws 40th. They mentioned it when we checked in. All was good. Got a table in the sun which we weren't thrilled about but seemed to have no choice. The only table that could have accommodated the 6 of us were two tables of four that could have been pushed together but they had seated a couple at each. There were many other nice tables that could have accommodated these couples. Poor planning. Service and food were excellent like before. Scottie and the rest of the wait staff very attentive. Tried a could different things from last time, raw of the day was a highlight. Ahi "taco" pastor style. Thinly sliced pineapple, slice of ahi, topped with a slaw. The pineapple becomes the shell to hold and eat. Very inventive. Tried the fried Pohole which are fiddle ferns. Really had little taste so maybe drizzle with something to add brightness,"? Also tried the "pork and beans". This was excellent. Green papaya salad was nice and crunchy but lacked authentic flavor. Needed a little cane sugar and more lime. Ordered the fish and chips, chicken wings, grilled peel and eat shrimp as we enjoyed these last time and they were just as good. Got the bill and this is when Scottie noticed we were celebrating a birthday. She said oh whose birthday is it? And the said happy birthday to my daughter-in-law. Overall, it's a really beautiful restaurant with delicious food. I loved how creative and unique every dish was. That said, I felt like most of the dishes were just one small step away from being amazing. The calamari was my least favorite. The batter was too thick and crunchy in a way that made it almost chewy. The calamari itself wasn't as tender as I would've liked, and I could barely taste the black garlic ranch it was served with. The hanger steak was cooked perfectly and had great presentation. My only complaint was that it was a little too salty. The Heart of Palm + Celery Caesar was easily the star of the meal. It was so fresh, light, and packed with different crispy textures. Such a creative dish, and definitely my favorite. The Kabocha squash was also really good. The squash was perfectly cooked, and I loved the crunch from the seeds with the curry flavors. I just wish it had a spicy cream sauce underneath to bring everything together. Beautiful ambiance, professional service, and every dish was thoughtfully composed and well executed. Starting with a glass of Château Musar rosé (the only rosé I actually like), I ordered the hot appetizer jumbo prawn with romesco which was perfectly grilled and bigger than my forearm! I also got the cold eggplant appetizer as my vegetable which was very refreshing with tomatoes, olives, red onion, and flat leaf parley. The hanger steak was cooked as ordered and included some broccolini and a parmesan crisp. Portions were quite generous and I found pricing very fair for the quality of ingredients and execution of the dishes. Would definitely choose Koast for a celebratory meal. The drink I had was a daiquiri which was served very cutely with a popsicle providing the sweetness. My son and I were dining and we ordered the hanger steak, and I had the pork surf and turf special. I also ordered on the side the milk rolls and the crispy potatoes. The service was good and folks were kind. So here is the unfortunate part. The kitchen was clearly terribly behind because we waited about 30-40 minutes for our meal. I looked around and noticed that no one around me was eating. So it's clear they were slammed. Then food all started coming out at the same time. Then when my food arrived guess what... that's right it was cold. Both mine and my son's food was cold. I was really confused about that because we waited so long. Was it forgotten? I waited for the server to come by to check but he didn't so I had to ask the buser to ask him to come check. He came by a few minutes later and back he went with my food. The food tasted good though. A tad bit heavy on the salt but still good. I was expecting the rolls to be a bit more light but they were okay. The potatoes were the best bite of the meal. We still ordered dessert the zeppole which were just okay. And the calamansi pie which was tasty. Sadly nothing was outstanding to the point I would return. DRINKS: We each had a cocktail- unfortunately I do not remember the names. Mine was a take on an Old fashioned with cherry and it was delicious. My partner had a refreshing fruit forward cocktail that was also very good. FOOD: "Maui hot" crispy calamari with black garlic ranch dressing-- we loved this dish. The Calamari was fresh, with a nice crisp. The breading was seasoned well. The black garlic dip was also unique and complimented the Calamari. My partner had the rigatoni with dry aged wagyu and basil. The sauce was flavorful and the parmesan was a nice addition. Overall, a good dish but did not feel exceptional. I ordered the special of the night- which was a Lobster spaghetti with capers, spinach, and blistered tomatoes. The lobster itself was really nice, cooked well and very tender. Unfortunately the pasta itself was significantly under cooked so it was very chewy and it made it hard to enjoy the dish. There were also a lot of capers- they overpowered the flavor of the lobster. The presentation was also a bit underwhelming- it looked like they just scooped it onto the side of the plate. I would not order this dish again. We were greeted with a very warm welcome from the hostess and had an amazing waitress who was really enthusiastic and really good at what she does. My hubby and I have been coming here since they first opened and have discovered that their menu changes every couple of months. Sometimes we're bummed we can no longer get a certain dish that we loved, but we have learned that it's because that produce wasn't so great at the time so the chef opted for what's in season which makes perfect sense. The result are dishes that are full of flavor, highlighting the seasonal produce in their peek form. Initially I was hesitant at some of the vegetable combinations, but having had so many flavor bomb combos that I never had before, now I trust what's on the menu will be great even if it's outside of my comfort zone. The restaurant itself is just beautiful, and the service staff so knowledgeable and patient and wanting to really educate you on what's in the dishes. After two birthday dinners the previous two years at Mama's Fish House, I decided to try somewhere new. When I heard that Chef Chris Cosentino was behind Koast in South Maui, I knew that was where I wanted to spend my last birthday. I did unintentionally get a whole roasted Kona Kampachi for the second year in a row, but his version with green papaya slaw did not disappoint. Although it is pricy, it is enough for 2-3 with no additional food required to leave satisfied. With their own meat and fish locker on display, can't get fresher than this and they are more than happy to explain what's in there for the next day's preparation. If we weren't staying in W Maui, I would be tempted to return to be that one lucky person the next day to have one of the rarer fishes that he claims taste like lobster. With just one dinner left to book, I turned to Yelp and you all delivered with a recommendation for Koast, which I had never heard of - I think they are new since our last visit to the island a couple years ago. Located across the street from the Shops at Wailea, they are situated on the second floor of a smaller shopping complex and have a lot of open air seating. With all the doors open, even the indoor seating has good ventilation. The food was outstanding - every dish was bursting with flavor and contrasting textures. Make sure to listen for the numerous daily specials. My favorite dishes of the night were probably the starters and the desserts. One of the starters was a special - ahi sashimi with shaved hearts of palm, citrus, micro greens, and some sort of spicy oil - so it had elements of salt, sweet, tart, and spicy with softness, crunch, and chew. Even my vegetable, sauce, and garnish hating daughter absolutely loved this dish. The calamari was also a standout - the breading was crispy and had a nice kick to it. We ordered the ahi entree as well, and it was also delicious, as was the cauliflower, which visually wasn't that appealing since it wasn't roasted, but it was absolutely delicious. Dessert options were communicated verbally by our server (they must change frequently). We opted for the ginger molasses cake, which was suffused with ginger flavor and doused in a ginger-infused syrup - like a sticky toffee cake but better. The vanilla bean panna cotta was also delicious - a more delicate dessert - though the strawberries were not the sweetest. Service was great and attentive when we first arrived at 5:30. As the restaurant got busier, it became harder to find our server. We waited for quite a while after we finished our dinner. Fortunately, they had a lot of people attending to the tables and when we asked them for a dessert menu, they were able to track down our server. All in all, a fantastic dinner. It was the end of our trip to Maui and our 26th wedding anniversary so we looked up "Coolest place to go for dinner in Wailea". Koast came up and 3 people at The Andaz raved about how much they loved the Surf & Turf (they listed steaks, scallops, lobster) at Koast, so we were very excited. It was a Monday night, and apparently they really scale down. The Surf & Turf was fried pulled pork & fried shrimp. This did not sound appetizing at all, so we ordered rigatoni. The dessert selection was pretty bleak. Dave was our waiter, he did nothing to make our anniversary feel very special. Sadly, Koast did not live up to it's hype. The service is professional, friendly and attentive and the menu is simple, elegant and has something for everyone. I went to Koast for dinner with my wife to celebrate my birthday this month. I heard about it through reddit and people online who liked Lineage recommended it (I too really like Lineage). Koast is definitely more upscale than Lineage and the vibes are really nice, with a beautiful view of the sunset. We got seated outside with a nice view since we had a reservation for 5pm. Our server recommended a lot of different dishes, so we ended up ordering the whole roasted kona kanpachi, ember roasted cabbage, and milk bread. The whole roasted kona kanpachi was the best roasted fish we have ever eaten. It was also a huge portion because it is supposed to serve 2-3 people. We definitely could've fed 3 or even 4 with a couple sides to share, but we did our best to eat this perfectly cooked fish with the side papaya salad and fish sauce (nuoc cham) dressing. The miso roasted cabbage was also a hit, but I think we could've done without the milk bread. After devouring most of our giant entree, we then were convinced by our server again to order the pineapple dessert - the pineapple shell is frozen and filled with Italian meringue, pineapple semifreddo, and passionfruit sauce while the inside fruit is sous-vided, roasted, and carmelized on the side. It was a little bit sweet for me, but my wife really enjoyed it. I think that it could've had more semifreddo because the passionfruit was a bit overpowering, but overall it was a very creative and well-presented dessert. We also really enjoyed the non-alcoholic ube horchata, but they have a lot of interesting looking cocktails as well. My fiancé and I shared the collard green salad with the pork viniagrette on the side ($18). The salad was just ok in my opinion. The pork viniagrette was cool because it had actually pork pieces on it, but it was way too salty. For entrees, I got the onaga bouillabaisse ($65), and my fiancé got the surf and turf ($85). The onaga fish was super tasty! The texture was soft and so good! It could have been a little less salty (I already asked for less salt), and the fish skin could have been crispier. The dish was quite expensive for just the fish and a few pieces of vegetables. I tried the lobster and steak in my fiancé's dish. A few months ago, I made a reservation at Koast, Chef Chris Cosentino's new spot in Wailea, to celebrate my other half's birthday. Having tried most of the restaurants in the area, we were excited to experience something new, and Koast (which just opened late last year) was my top choice. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly and seated in a cozy waiting area. The first thing I noticed were the dry agers along the wall -- a small detail that instantly made me think, "Okay, this place is serious about their craft." The décor was beautiful too; modern yet inviting, with ocean-inspired touches that gave it that perfect "koastal" feel. It almost felt like we were transported somewhere along the Mediterranean. The menu was on the smaller side, but in a good way -- thoughtfully curated and refreshingly different from the usual offerings on Maui. There's an emphasis on fresh, locally sourced ingredients and creative flavor combinations. Seafood lovers will be happy here (fish, octopus, and more), but there are a handful of other proteins too. I went for the Koast Surf & Turf, which changes daily and gives you the best of both worlds (just a heads up -- it's market price). We started with the charred octopus toast, milk bread, and watermelon tomato salad, then shared the Westholme Wagyu NY strip and Koast Surf & Turf (shrimp, scallops, a lobster tail, and steak). My husband had an old fashioned, and I went for the zero-proof tropical mule. Dessert was the lychee donuts, made with ricotta cheese, a cardamom + orange sauce, served with ice cream (vanilla, I think) and a sparkler for the birthday boy which was a fun touch. The food was mixed: the foie gras was amazing, the raw dish for the day was just ok, the lobes farm pork was over salted, and the grilled ahi was very good but the green beans were almost raw. The service was excellent and the ambiance was beautiful but there was a leak in the ceiling that dripped on me the entire evening. Maybe just humidity but they offered no solution. I met two local friends here for an early dinner at 4:00. What a wonderful experience. The restaurant is beautifully appointed and comfortable. Service is professional and friendly. The menu has so many amazing options it was hard to choose what to order. In these situations I like to get the input of the server. Went out to dinner and decided to try a new place. First glance really nice and clean looking restaurant from the outside and inside. The service was really great our server and hostess were really nice and treated my party well. Downside was that the food was not up to par. We started off with the milk bread which was nice and soft and the custard and butter than came with it was good. Calamari was good too. The clam fritters barely had any clam and was mostly bread. The pasta for me seemed undercooked. The fried chicken had a unique seasoning that wasn't for me and the crust wasn't that great either. It was paired with a good sweet sauce but together with the chicken and its seasoning was not a good pair in my opinion. The pork and shrimp dish was super ono, probably one of our favorites of the night. The rigatoni was also really good and satisfying. The kids' meals were a decent size and good quality, which we really appreciated. It's always nice. Service was great -- friendly, attentive, and welcoming throughout our meal. I'm obsessed with this place. This is coming from a REAL foodie, not a tourist - ok?! First, they grill their protein in a special oven/grill combo that allows the perfect sear but cooked to a moist, juicy center. My wife used to make the BEST steaks at home, so much so that we stopped going to steakhouses (PappasBros etc). Think blackening seasoning with a cast iron sear and finished in the oven to get a good mallard reaction. Well, this place delivers on THAT execution via their special grill. On to the food. At first, I really enjoyed their hanger or dry aged ny steaks. However, on my daily journey to eat well but stay fit, I pivoted to their Chicken fra Diavolo on this trip. Let's just say, it's made my trip (I base travel on food foremost). It is charred to utter perfection, spicy (even for me which says ALOT), and you can request a side of their green chili sauce for an additional burst of Thai flavor. Chris Cosentino of San Francisco is the chef. Bartenders are friendly and Maui has really embraced mezcal in recent years. Pair this with an Ilegal anejo mezcal cointreau margarita and enjoy the open air Hawaiian breeze w an ocean view. It does not get better than this. read more

Really nice ambiance and staff was super attentive. This place offers a lot of specials! Both of our entrees were specials. The opah fish was cooked perfectly. The pork Wellington was super rich. The Caesar celery was really different, I enjoyed it. The octopus toast was amazing! I would skip the calamari next time I didn't care for the cornmeal breading. The desserts were huge! I was not expecting that, definitely recommend ordering only one to share for two people read more
