We are INSULTED waitress had to underline gratuity not included!!! She is lucky we still left a 20% tip!!!

Today's experience stunk; I guess the waitress thought I didn't know how to tip? I was very insulted she had to underline "gratuity not included"!!! She is lucky I gave her the 20% I did. If I am staying at this hotel, I think I can still tip... just don't insult your customers!

While vacationing in Wailea Maui we stopped at The Fairmont to check out the resort and have lunch. AMA Bar and grill was the only place serving lunch at 1pm. My husband and I chose the Poke bowl. It was so delicious and we enjoyed it very much. The service was ok free valet parking beautiful grounds friendly valet staff

Big Swell

Went to the pool to relax and grabbed a couple drinks on my first day in. Ordered the Kea Lani Mai Tai. I would not recommend it. Ordered a second drink Spicy Mango Margarita. I definitely would not call that a margarita but maybe I'm just not use to mixed drinks on the island. As far as beer goes I tried a sample of Bikini Blonde Lager and Pau Hana Pilsner . The Big Swell IPA was a typical IPA and enjoyable. Staff was very polite and nice to each customer.

Kimchi and Gochujang korean fried chicken wings, Maui Chopped Salad, and Chicken Quesadillas for the kids? Count me in!! What I love about AMA Bar and Grill is their unique lunch options that you can enjoy by the pool! The chicken wings were our favorite! It is sweet and spicy and so delicious. The kids enjoyed their quesadillas and they gave a generous amount of sour cream, guacamole, and salsa. The chopped salad was so simple yet so delicious. Just the idea of enjoying a fresh salad by the pool made it taste a thousand times better. Love the addition of the avocado, and capers on a salad? Who would've ever thought it would make a salad taste so good! I'd love to come back here again and enjoy their other menu options! Also, bartenders and servers were so friendly and helpful.

What a hidden gem! Great spot for a date night with ocean and sunset views!! Food and service was outstanding!!! We had the seafood platter to start, hard to pick a favorite but the salmon, oysters & lobsters were my personal picks. Then we had the beet salad & watermelon salad, great pallet cleansers, refreshing and tasty! Next was the chimichuri steak & fries, miso butterfish, chicken kabob and brussel sprouts. Again everything was great but the steak and fries were my favorite. Then we tried the sorbets and cream pies for dessert. All winners but the chocolate caramel cream pie and coconut lime cream pie didn't last long...lol I highly recommend going before this little restaurant gets too popular to get a table!!!

I'm a sucker for a good swim up pool bar and AMA checked that box while on a recent visit to the Fairmont Hotel in Maui. Our bartender, Nick, has been working there for 15 years and knows how to make a drink. We enjoyed Mai Tai's, a little NFL football on the big screens, and some good conversation!

Fantastic burger WOW

Crazy crazy crazy Who would pay $100 for a burger ? This is life-changing you must try it . I heard about the special burger and just had to come and try it I live here. I'm also a chef and owner of a restaurant. So that means I'm pretty picky. Definitely a hamburger snob . I thought to myself why are you only live once you got a try. It was amazing and texture Kobe beef. The special part where the mushrooms they were unbelievable. Definitely recommend splurge splurge splurge. Service outstanding I can't wait to try the other burgers as well. Very special and well worth it.

Although the food was decent and the drinks were okay, I give AMA three stars because the service was below average and the other Fairmont restaurants made it look bad by comparison. Our server was kind of inattentive. She didn't check in with our table as much as she should have. In addition, when she brought us our bill, she didn't include the itemized receipt. She only brought over the total owed. We asked for an itemized receipt and came to find that the gratuity was already included in the grand total. It was an extremely large order, so the included gratuity was substantial and tipping twice would have been quite expensive. I'm not sure if our server intentionally omitted the itemized receipt, but it was odd. I also appreciate when the server makes you aware that the gratuity is included. I think it's common courtesy. In addition, the table wasn't very clean when we were seated. As I mentioned before, the other restaurants at the Fairmont (Nick's, Ko, Ciao Cafe) have excellent service and their food is out of this world. I just wouldn't recommend wasting any time at AMA when there's better options nearby.

Not many vegetarian options here for poolside or at the restaurant itself. We ordered twice from this place on different days and were very disappointed. Ordered at the restaurant: Taro burger - the bread was a bit stale and chewy and the Krinkle cut fries were not fresh - probably frozen. The side pickle even tasted old. We had to search for our waitress many times, and it took over 10 mins for someone to get or waitress to give us the check. It's a very unorganized area of servers. Other customers were waiting for over 5 mins after they sat down just for water and to order. You're better bet is to order at the pool. Ordered at the pool: We also ordered from the kids menu because of the lack of veggie options, so we asked about the Mac n cheese and the server said it was Kraft! ??? Not what I was looking for or expected at a resort at all! The cost of a Kraft boxed Mac n cheese which is typically $1 at Walmart, was way overly priced on the menu here at the resort. I understand by the manager that parents had asked for Kraft brand for their kids, but parents shouldn't be giving their children cardboard boxed mac n cheese. I always make my own fresh Mac n cheese at home and for my nieces and nephew. It isn't that hard to make! Especially at a resort, the quality of the food should match the star level quality of the resort. So instead we ordered their penne marinara and that was awful as well. Very plain pasta with tomato sauce and their side veggies were uncooked (raw and not steamed enough at all). Very disappointed in the quality and cost of the food at Ama. Their grilled cheese is horrible. I can make it better at home myself. Too buttery and the cheese tasted weird. I would never let my child eat this low quality of food. Overall don't eat here and instead go grab a sandwich or something else from the "shops at wailea" and come back. It's right around the corner and tastes much much better!

Our family of four…read morereally enjoyed our evening here--it was a well needed respite from the overpriced fancy menus of the various resort restaurants down the hill. We started with the spam and unagi musabi, which is cut in half and a bit messy for four to share but perfect for two. It was delicious! We also had the poke nachos which had plenty of fresh ahi piled on. My wife and I split a smash burger deluxe style--one of the best burgers I've had for a while. The boys split fish tacos, which they devoured with enthusiasm. We had two sides of fries for the four of us, which was more than enough. The server was helpful and efficient. We had the tasting flight, and all five beers were excellent. Can't wait to come back!

I was worried even as light eaters that it would not have been enough food. I got the HH Smash Burger and Fries - $9, well you get what you pay for, lol. It was okay, nothing to write about, pun intended. When a meal is the same price as your one beer, don't expect much, lol. And after 3 beers... Well 4 if you count the one I had at home, lol. Overall a simple menu done well. Beer, of course, was good. I have drank many of these beers, especially when in Hi, Maui. Ambiance - A small brewery, but if you count the indoor/oudoor space, it was of decent size. We chose to sit at the bar as it typically has better service. Got lucky and got the very first space and there was no parking in this first lot. Clean restrooms, two unsex stalls. Open 7 days a week from 11am to 9pm, on weekdays they have HH from 2pm to 5pm. Service - Good, the lady bartender was the best!!! We watched a little of the game together and had some small talk. The male bartender was no nonsense. Price - $48 + tip. I got another beer only because my wife wanted us to hit the $50 mark so we can get $10 off at their upcountry location. Let's see if they will honor this receipt. Owner Comment - Congrats on all your success at this location since 2024 and with your other location, which we hope to visit also on this trip.

This restaurant is cool! The Monkeypod Kitchen in Wailea…read more...the only way to describe it is...cool. The food is delicious, the staff are all amazing and I guess you put those two together and you come up with the coolest restaurant in Maui. We started with the shrimp and mushroom potstickers with wild caught shrimp...the flavor just oozed out, so good. Then, onto the Bourgeois Pizza made with fresh lobster, lapa'au farm oyster mushrooms, and mozzarella cheese! This is the only restaurant I've ever been to with lobster pizza and it is SO GOOD! Big chunks of fresh lobster...forever grateful to the chef who came up with this. Our server, Amanda, made the whole evening a treat. You don't find staff who make you feel like you're a part of the island but she did! This place is a must if you're going to Maui!

Fairly laidback atmosphere, not as formal as Merriman's which I went to earlier on the trip, so easy to come in and feel comfortable in something as simple as a shorts and a t-shirt. Also service was good -- again, not as formal as Merriman's. A couple dishes really stood out; the poke tacos was excellent, the kalua pork & pineapple was amazing and by far my favorite dish (which is half-off during happy hour, resulting in subsequent happy hour trips), and the strawberry cream pie which was delicious. The dishes I had which could have been better included both the organic macadamia nut crusted fresh fish and the fresh caught fish tacos; they served mahi mahi the night we went, and both were "okay," but I've had ample better of both dishes at other establishments in Maui, and especially at these really high prices -- I'd recommend going to a better spot for these dishes instead. I found the monkeypod mai tai to also just be "okay"; can definitely find better mai tai's on the island. So at the end of the day, I concluded that the main dishes and cocktails weren't really worth it, but discovered that they service 50% off of appetizers and pizza during happy hours, so I would definitely recommend visiting during happy hours.

6.22.26 UPDATE We…read moreoriginally had a disappointing experience due to slow service, limited attention from staff, and the lack of air conditioning during our visit. However, the owner took the time to respond and explain that the entire shopping center wing was experiencing cooling issues and that the restaurant was dealing with significant staffing shortages at the time. While that doesn't completely change the experience we had, I appreciate that the owner acknowledged the challenges and responded professionally rather than dismissing the feedback. One observation I would offer is that, as a customer, it was difficult to tell who was serving tables. I noticed several employees in Pint & Cork shirts moving around the restaurant, but only saw a couple of servers actively covering the dining area. It's possible some staff were assigned to bartending or other responsibilities, but from the guest perspective it gave the impression that table service was understaffed while other employees appeared unavailable. I still think there is room for improvement in the flow and logistics on the floor, but I appreciate the owner's willingness to engage with feedback and explain the circumstances. That being said, I would be willing to give the restaurant another chance. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATED REVIEW AFTER OWNER'S RESPONSE: 6.21.26 I appreciate the response. It's telling that you addressed the air conditioning, disputed the gender of an employee, and questioned whether I was even there, yet didn't meaningfully respond to the concerns about service, timing, attentiveness, or food quality. If a customer leaves with a poor experience, the question isn't whether they perfectly recalled every detail. The question is why they left with that impression in the first place. I suspect future readers can draw their own conclusions from both the review and the response. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Probably the most disappointing dining experience of our Hawaii trip. We specifically asked to sit indoors because we wanted a break from the Maui heat after spending the day outside. Unfortunately, we quickly realized there was no air conditioning, making the indoor seating barely any cooler than outside. The restaurant also felt severely understaffed. It took around 10 minutes just to get a Diet Coke, and every time I asked for assistance, the woman working at the register seemed to defer the request rather than help or find someone who could. Meanwhile, some employees appeared more interested in chatting than helping customers, while only one or two staff members seemed to be working the floor. I understand restaurants get busy, especially in a tourist area, but the issue wasn't just the wait--it was the feeling that customer service wasn't a priority. As for the food, it was nothing special. I ordered a steak that had a nice smoky flavor, but it arrived well done and overcooked. The rest of the meal was average at best and definitely not memorable enough to make up for the service issues. Between the lack of air conditioning, slow service, inattentive staff, and mediocre food, this was one of the few places in Hawaii where I genuinely regretted spending my money. Considering the location at The Shops at Wailea and the prices being charged, I expected a much higher level of hospitality and execution. There are far too many great dining options in Wailea to come back here.

My partner and I arrived around 2:50 PM, settled into the bar, and ordered multiple rounds of drinks and appetizers. Around 3:50, while we were actively eating and drinking, a woman arrived with two companions and asked us to move our seats so they could sit together. There were plenty of available tables elsewhere in the restaurant. I politely declined with a simple, "No, thank you." The woman became indignant, called me a "rude little shit," moved an empty barstool into the walkway, and proceeded to glare at us. She then involved the hostess, Mimi, who came over and asked us to move ourselves, our food, and our drinks to accommodate this woman's preferred seating arrangement. I politely declined again. A restaurant cannot control every rude patron, but it absolutely controls how its staff responds. Instead of allowing established guests to finish their meals undisturbed, the hostess chose to intervene on behalf of someone whose conduct had already made the experience deeply uncomfortable. My partner became so uncomfortable that even finishing our meal was unpleasant. After years of supporting Tommy Bahama restaurants and purchasing its merchandise, this was an exceptionally disappointing experience. Hospitality should not mean inconveniencing respectful, paying customers to appease someone making unreasonable demands. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend this location and have no intention of returning.
