Well, I guess this is my fourth review. I need to keep reviewing this place because, quite frankly, more research is needed! I volunteer! This place is incredible. OMG. It's amazing. They can be very busy, but they have the ability to really get food out quickly, and the quality is always outstanding. Further, they have a few little happy hour specials, which we had never noticed in the past. We checked that out as well. We went three times on our recent visit to Kihei. If you don't know what to order, it's easy. Order the fish tacos. You get two. You will be full. I promise you that. If you're not that hungry, split an order with someone. But you might still want a second one because they are that delicious. Everything is fresh and it is absolutely done to perfection. I don't know what to say that I haven't already said in the past Service is fantastic. It's clean. There's lots of seating and lots of parking. What more do you need? We had lunch at this place after spending the morning snorkeling. We were starving the place was highly recommended by the locals. The service was at the counter was fantastic and friendly. Coconut's Fish Cafe is one of the best restaurants we have had while traveling. Calamari - tender, lightly breaded (very crispy) strips with cocktail sauce. This is a must have. Coconut Shrimp - lightly coated succulent shrimps. Other variations we have had have typically been heavy with breading with shriveled up shrimp. Also a must have! Mochiko Chicken - this was our least favorite, but I do think that this would be amazing for those who like dark meat (not I). I knew this woukd be dark meat, but I still wanted to give it a try. It reminds me of chicken karaage, and i had also spritz some lemon. I do appreciate that the meat is juicy and not fatty or gristly, so it is evident that they use high quality chicken. Grilled Ono - this one knocked our socks off. Texture of a tuna steak - yet flaky, tender, and juicy! Well reasoned, and not salty at all. I stopped by here 2 nights ago with my father for dinner. While I have been to Coconuts Fish Cafe before, this was my first time at the Kamaole location and my dad's first visit to any. When we arrived, there was a decent sized line out the door and it took around 20 minutes before we could place our order. Just like at other Coconuts locations, you place your order, take your number, and find an empty table and they will bring the food to you. This location had surfboard style tables, interesting light covers that looked like seashells, and a bunch of pictures on the walls including some retro Maui prints like the Iao Needle and Big Beach. For dinner on this evening I decided to go with the calamari and chips while my dad went with the fish and chips. Our food came out within a reasonable amount of time and looked good. My calamari, which is fried calamari steaks, was good as it was cooked nicely with a crunchy exterior and soft interior. The same could be said for the fries. There were a ton of them and they were seasoned well. My father also enjoyed his fish and when I took a bite I could see why as it was breaded nicely and had a great flavor. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. My calamari and chips were good and exactly what I would expect from Coconuts, and I would love to try more of the menu as well. read more

Overall I really enjoyed this spot! It's a little hidden and out of the way but the food was amazing! I had the fish and chip and my boyfriend had the coconut shrimp and we both liked each other's meals better than our own. Overall I rate this a 10/10! The service was amazing! This place is a must to try when in Maui. It offers such a great variety of local favorites at a reasonable price. Dishes are big so you can even share them. Place is big, clean, has lots of tables and beach decor all throughout. Busy hours are slammed packed until around 130pm wnd maybe rush hour at night between 530pm-7pm. This was our 4th visit, 2 in 2017, 1 in 2021 and one in 2026. Fish tacos are always good but I got the mahi mahi local plate with rice and slaw and it was excellent. We were shocked that beer and wine were only $3 from 7:30PM to 830 PM tonight. Order and pay up front and they give you a number on a stick. Choose any table and get your own water condiments, napkins and silverware. Food comes quickly. We ordered onion rings and they were excellent but enough for 4 people and the other food was very filling so it was too much. The best cheap dinner on the strip. It's a cute cafe with a very casual ambiance. It is open "late" for Maui standards so it's great to come here to eat after a flight since most places close at 8... The staff are friendly, and never had issues here! I like the mahi mahi sandwich or the mahi mahi plate that comes with coleslaw and rice. I came here because they had so many reviews on yelp. We got their fish taco, cajun shrimp taco, and pablo crusted onion rings. Both tacos were really good and I loved how crispy the onion rings were. The restaurant is on the 2nd floor and pretty spacious. I loved the interior inside of the restaurant. They consist of 17 ingredients and plenty of chunky ono and mahi which deliver an award winning recipe. The restaurant is quite spacious with plenty of indoor seating and some outdoor tables as well! The vibes are very surfer casual with local artwork on display. We were able to choose our own table so we sat down and waited patiently for our food. The coconut shrimp (one order comes with 6 shrimp) was served very quickly! Took a bite and it was everythinggggg I had wanted -- the shrimp was so juicy and the texture was perfectly crispy. But what stood out was the FLAVOR of the shredded coconut. It's so often repeated but it's so true that coconut just hits different when it's grown locally. The bold, sweet, nutty coconut really shined and paired well with the sweet chili sauce offered on the side. We gobbled these up so fast LOL Growing up in California and being exposed to many a good taco, I was admittedly a little skeptical about these fish tacos. I'm used to eating tacos that incorporate beer-battered & fried fish, so I wasn't sure about the taste and texture of grilled fish on a taco... but one bite changed everything for me. All the ingredients were super fresh and flavorful! I was pleasantly surprised at how well the fish was seasoned. The coconut milk coleslaw provided such a good base -- idk what else they seasoned the coleslaw with but it was goooood. And the mango salsa carried this dish to perfection! It was delightfully zesty and bright. One order includes two tacos for $20, and although that may seem expensive, the tacos are fairly large and will fill you up quick. I could barely finish mine (even though I really wanted to because it was just that good). Their merch is also so stinkin cute :)) I bought the fuzzy bucket hat with the Coconuts logo and I have no regrets. This was easily one of the best meals we had on the island. I eat here at least once each time I'm in Kihei. This trip I dined twice. First time got their fish tacos, second time the macadamia mahi mahi. Food is pretty consistent and despite the place being really popular, they do a good job keeping up with the crowd. The dining room gets pretty warm since all the windows are kept closed, but there's outdoor seating. The only issue I had this time is that on my first visit, I was barely halfway through my meal and went to refresh my Pepsi, and an overzealous employee took my food away. So...we decided to try it. It was at a shopping center. Plenty of parking. The guy that took our order was friendly and answered our questions. We even asked what is recommended. Inside was nice and clean. You can sit anywhere and they even had an option to eat outside. I found the artwork pieces interesting - they were up for sale too. The music was good. If you needed to use the restroom, you have to go around the back and they can give you a code for the door. The food was - okay. I was not really satisfied with my poke bowl. I think I already have been enjoying local poke in both Oahu and Maui that unfortunately the bowl I ordered was not as great. I even wished my portion was bigger. My husband was not blown away by this fish and chips order. But he still finished it. This used to be a favorite for our family, even the vegetarian members when we would visit Maui. Sadly, the quality has gone downhill. The veggie tacos no longer have their delicious veggie patty and now have uncooked tofu or flavorless greasy deep fried tofu. The shrimp tacos had 1-2 shrimp per taco if you're lucky, and the ono plate was dry and disappointing. The pork tacos were good but the chicken plate was average. Hopefully the quality gets back to what it was. Luckily, the service is always good. The ambiance is fine for a quick bite but the old guys attempting music outside while you wait. read more

I wanted to share some feedback from my recent takeout order. I called ahead and was told my total would be about $102. However, when I arrived to pick it up, I was informed that a 15% gratuity was automatically added because the total exceeded $100. With tax, this brought the total to around $124. I understand if that's your policy, but it really would have been helpful to be told about this upfront when I placed the order. If I had known, I likely would have separated the my dad's order, especially since I personally don't believe gratuities should be applied automatically to takeout -- particularly without clear notice. I hope you'll consider making this policy more transparent for future customers. read more
