Parents and I were craving some legit Mexican food so I told them we should go to Roasted Chiles since it's been awhile & it hit the spot. We ordered a basket of Chips and Salsa with a Side of Queso and annihilated that throughout the meal. I got myself a Zero Proof Guavalajara (Guava Margarita) and Mom got the $5 Margarita Special. Our waitress Geo was so friendly and checked up on us quite frequently & recommended the Drink Special to my mom. She also mentioned since it's Tuesday, they had $5 Taco Specials! They were full house inside so we enjoyed our meal outside which was nice to enjoy more relaxing vibes. Dad got the Pescado (Fish) Taco Plate which was Opakapaka and he annihilated 2 out of the 3. There was a chipotle crema on top and he said the Fish was nice and crispy since it was battered with tempura. Mom and I got enchiladas, she got Mineras (Vegetable option) & I got the Picadillo (Ground Beef with potatoes) enchiladas. It's definitely a good portion with 3 enchiladas with lettuce, radish slices, crema on top and a side of Rice with corn and carrots throughout and Creamy Pinto Beans! To finish our meal, we scored the last slice of the Strawberry Vanilla Tres Leches Cake! Perfectly soaked with the three milks, a little dash of strawberry jam on top and light strawberry whipped cream topping and filling. Geo said the last piece was the largest! So disappointed with how far this place has gone downhill. The decor feels tired, the bar crowd has turned into rowdy drunks, and worst of all, they advertise vegetarian food that actually contains chicken stock in the rice and beans. When I brought it up, I was told, "Yeah, we keep meaning to update the menus." I've been eating here for years, so who knows how long this has been going on. That's not just misleading, it's a serious issue for vegetarians and anyone with food allergies or dietary restrictions. There are much better places to spend your money. Skip this one. read more

We enjoyed this place. So we came back for some 'ono grindz ans great drinks. August the bartender remembered us from last time. He took our drink order and what we wanted to eat. Soon enough everything came out. The food was very delicious. I enjoyed the tacos they were small but very filling. Steak, Cilinatro and onions with a little bit of salsa. We'll be back for more drinks and great food. The Ambiance is it's a cute cozy place with T.V.s playing the sunday football. They also have a bar you can sit and eat at. Did a quick phone order pickup here and everything went smoothly! Food was ready in 15-20 minutes and was nice and hot when we received it. We ordered a wet burrito, nachos and taco salad. The asada was tender and had good flavor. read more

If you are looking for decent Mexican food on the island, check this place out. It's in a strip mall so there's plenty of parking. Inside had a lot of TV's that they were showing the games. Server was very friendly. We had a group of 10 and didn't wait too long for our food. I ordered bean dip with the chips and it unusual. They also charge you $3.99 for chips and $1.99 for refills. It was more whole beans than refried beans. The salsa was a home run! I also ordered cheese enchiladas, and the red sauce was different. My wife ordered ceviche and she really liked it. The decor inside was your typical Spanish decor. They do not have a restroom inside the restaurant, but a local one in the strip mall you have to get a key for. read more

We went back based on previous experience years ago and a recommendation in the blue book. 1st disappointment was that they have no bathroom. They give you a code and you walk half a block down a hall to use a mall restroom. 2nd disappointment was that chips and salsa do not come with the meal. They charge $3.99 extra and $1.99 for refills. The chicken chimichanga was very good and came with guacamole and sour cream, but nothing else. It was no better or worse than we would have gotten in Seattle in a neighborhood restaurant. The enchilada langostine had a moderately spicy sauce but otherwise little taste. The shrimp were the tiny cocktail shrimp about the size of a dime. This dish came with beans and rice which were both bland and boring. The 3d disappointment was an added 4.2% "service charge" to cover the credit card fees. No other restaurant we have eaten at in the last 2 weeks did that. Our server explained that if we paid cash, she could take it off but a debit card did not count as cash. We took it off the tip. Chelsea gave us excellent service for an otherwise boring meal. Strange to say, but this place has the most organic margaritas I've ever tasted. All the different flavors of margaritas I've tried tasted smooth and fresh, thanks to the housemade sour mix that isn't artificial. The quesadillas, fajitas, and pico de gallo are good. Breakfast burrito I tried was so-so and I find their beans to be too salty. The decor of the place is nice, but it's too chilly inside of the restaurant/bar everytime we go, so we don't tend to stay long. read more

Food was very good, with extremely tasty beans and rice. The tortillas were exceptionally soft and mouthwateringly tender. The tortilla chips were outstanding, fresh, hot, seasoned perfectly. The chips were so addicting that I had to push them away so I would have room for my entree. The only disappointment was that our nachos (generously portioned for $16.00, enough for 4 people as an appetizer) used melted Velveeta-style cheese sauce. It was reminiscent of movie theatre nachos. I am not a snob; I love me some movie nachos! I always order those! But when in a fine establishment such as this restaurant, where the service is friendly and welcoming, beautiful decor, fine selection of liquors and tequila, I just expected something different for the price point. The langostino enchiladas were super sexy: the tender enchiladas were sauced with a green chili cream, with trails of garlic flavor swirled througout, little nuggets of sweet langostino meat, yummmay! I would definitely order those again. No chile rellenos to be found at dinner. Sadness. We spent $80 for dinner for two people, one beer, and one appetizer, no dessert. The food here is pretty much authentic. So far everything I tried I loved. This time there were no complimentary chips and salsa but that's expected with the price of everything going up. We had a party of 12; 6 kids and 6 adults. They were very accommodating and got us in quickly. Service was fast and friendly. But that's the only nice thing I have to say. The prices were so inconsistent. $21 for chicken fajitas makes sense. $14 for a small quesadilla does not. $5 chips and salsa up front is offensive, charging $2 for refills is not. The enchilada sauce is gross. It tastes like Italian red sauce, not Mexican. Definitely did not belong on enchiladas. We liked the rice and beans. We liked the mole (not worth $26 though). The veggie quesadilla was well liked. The fajitas were good. It was just so inconsistent....i can't think of a better word for it. Since it opened, I considered Roasted Chiles as the best Mexican food on Maui. It has always been expensive but the good food brought me back. Sad to report that my last two meals there were not even at par with average taste or value. The chicken burrito I recently got was so small, it looked like one you get a convenience store. Over $20 for a little bit of chicken with couple small slices of red pepper in a tortilla. combo that with a margarita (which was also subpar), I paid $50 with tip. Just ridiculous. The place must have sold because it has changed so much. I understand restaurants need to make a profit but I certainly don't like to feel ripped off as I did my last two visit's. Suggest getting a burrito at Hawaiicano in Kahului, less expensive and it 3 times the size. read more

I've had dinner here several times and the food was really good. The beer was cold, too. This time, we were meeting another couple of friends for happy hour to relax and talk story. There were only a few other customers at the time. A Roasted Chilies staff member seated us, brought water, menus and utensils. He said our server would be by to take our order. The happy hour items are limited to regular margaritas, beer, tacos and nachos. Chelsea eventually showed up, snatched up our lunch menus and replaced them with dinner menus. She was nice and friendly, though. We ordered the $6 house margaritas before our friends arrived. The margaritas arrived in a few minutes, along with our friends. The margaritas were rather disappointing; very light on the tequila. We ordered a plate of $6 happy hour nachos, which arrived quickly. They tasted a little bland (beans, cheese & sour cream). Thankfully, Chelsea offered us a small bowl of salsa. She also checked on us a couple of times. The salsa was definitely appreciated because it added a little kick to the plate. Came here for breakfast Sunday morning wanting something different and that is exactly what we got. Amazing home made hot sauces and salsas, breakfast was excellent but the service was the biggest difference! Our food was great but didn't even compare to the service we received! The young lady that was our server was attentive, offered excellent suggestion asked if we wanted the channel changed to whatever we wanted and we never had an empty drink. I will preface my review with this: I'm from Southern California, the land of delicious Mexican food that's ever so abundant and can always be found. There's definitely no shortage of Mexican restaurants here. My husband and son went to eat sushi (yuck!) Lol so my daughter and I searched out Mexican food. Oddly enough, both restaurants were in the same parking lot. We arrived just before the start of happy hour. My daughter and I shared nachos to begin then I got 2 HH tacos for $5 bucks and she got a simple cheese quesadilla. The food was very good. Not as good as our Mexican food back home ;-) but definitely edible. And WAY better than Mexican food in Minnesota! {we ate at one a few years ago while visiting my sister. They need to cheese it up a little more. Salsa tasty too but could use a kick. We all ordered alambres. 2 of us had the mahi, 2 guys had the carne. Mahi overcooked and lacked taste. Carne tough.
