Absolutely nothing compares to California Mexican food. However, I thoroughly enjoyed my tostado salad with grilled mahi mahi. The fish was AMAZING! And the man running the counter was a treat. This place is fantastic. Been coming here for years. Family owned and super super super nice people. Don't get confused by the fish and chips place next door. We were trying to find a quiet place to grab a bite near our stay and walked into this shopping center. Next door there was a line for the sushi and this hole in the wall, so we decided to try it. Staff was super friendly as we walked in, just two of them. Basically a take out joint, but seating in the courtyard. We ordered a couple items to eat there and relax and asked if we could have them make food for a take out order on the same ticket and they did without problem. They timed our take out to bring home to family perfectly. The food was super good, organic, fresh, local ingredients. Pricing was surprisingly low considering the size and freshness, we're used to paying this or more for less. I ordered the Upcountry burrito. The flavors are certainly unique to Maui and nothing close to what I would expect back in California. The ginger fried rice is really what caught my eye, and boy am I glad I gave this a shot. The combo of the ginger rice, slaw, pork and beans was so good and I can't remember the last time I had a burrito tasting so fresh. And these are sharing size! My wife ordered the Mahi burrito. Once again, big size burrito super fresh tasting. Their sauces are great, and the cabbage still has a nice crunch to it. The chips and salsa they provided for us to eat "here" were nice too, really good salsas. We also got a garlic shrimp burrito to bring back to my sister in law, she had been really enjoying similar items around the island. It was ridiculously good. First timers here, definitely not the last!! Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted by the cashier, which I think was the restaurant owner. He was very welcoming & sweet. Super charismatic when we were placing our order. We had their blackened mahi tacos & their garlic steak burrito grande. Everything was so flavorful! The fish was seasoned to perfection and the mango salsa was the perfect compliment. The burrito was huge and came with their own house made tortilla chips. Their salsas were delicious. Our favorite was the orange colored one which had a slight kick, but also a tropical taste to it...I think it was mango habanero?? It's a hidden area, but has a lot of seating and very nice ambiance. I've been coming here since 2007, whenever I am in Maui. It used to be under a different name, Taqueria Cruz, but I know I'm always going to enjoy something delicious when I'm at this location - no matter the name. I have been to Maui 6-7 times and no trip is complete without stopping here for a couple of meals. This is my second time at Jawz in two days because the food and service is so good! I have to eat gluten-free and this food is safe for me. I don't eat seafood, but I love chicken, pork and beef and I especially love their pork tacos and garlicky chicken tacos. The tortilla chips are fresh, the salsa is delicious and not too spicy or too mild. The portions are authentic and generous. The gentleman who works here (owner?) is so kind, happy, generous, polite and is passionate about the food he serves and the people who visit his establishment. Went here for lunch and enjoyed the menu options. Ordered a pulled pork burrito with cilantro rice, black beans, and added onion and cilantro at no extra cost. I wish there had been more cabbage for flavor in the burrito, but that's just me (only saw a few strips of it, but better to have less than too much and not enough meat). Was big enough to split between two meals. My only issue was that you only got one small (1oz) container of green salsa. The salsa was SO GOOD. I just needed more of it cause it came with a lot of chips and the burrito was huge. It cost $2 a piece for another small container, so definitely not worth it. Just wish they would give 2-3 of them per burrito at least... Otherwise it was a good place to eat. read more

Where's Waldo, I mean Jawz? It's hidden in the back corner of the Dolphin Plaza, across from Kamaole Beach Park 1 in Kihei. The food was excellent Latino cuisine. I had the Pork Taco Salad. It's was loaded with all the fixings and flavor. My wife had the Build Your Own Burrito. Same result, it was excellent. The most amazing thing was how much food there was to eat at pre-inflation prices(very inexpensive compared to the rest of Maui). The only employee we saw was a very pleasant Latino gentleman. He took our order, prepared the food and delivered it to our outdoor table. We will return. read more
