Expensive!! But every place in the Grand Wailea Hilton resort is crazy expensive. $100 for a couple of drinks, a shared app, and a shared main. But you get what you pay for. The food is good. This is right in the middle of the main floor (4th floor, which is confusing for the first few days). Large bar surrounded by individual and group tables and couches. The waitstaff is pretty good. Attentive. Bother you just enough but not too much. They have nightly live music (dunno if it's every night but appears to be). So that adds a bit to the nightlife sort of atmosphere. read more

My spouse and I recently visited this bar expecting a great experience given its upscale reputation, but unfortunately, it was anything but. We stood waiting at the bar for about 20 minutes without being acknowledged. During that time, two bartenders made eye contact with us multiple times but never came over to assist or even greet us. It was only after a staff member (possibly a barback) approached us to ask if we had been helped that anyone finally acknowledged our presence. The lack of basic service was frustrating, but what made the experience more uncomfortable was the feeling that we were being deliberately overlooked. It's hard not to question whether assumptions were being made about us, whether it was how we looked or something else entirely. No guest should ever feel that way when walking into a business. The bar back took our order, and that's when one of the bartenders finally acknowledged us but didn't even apologize for not assisting us to begin with. For a place that presents itself as upscale, the level of professionalism and hospitality fell far below expectations. I hope management takes this seriously and works on creating a more inclusive and attentive environment for all guests. read more

For $30/drink suggest they up their game. Someone somewhere had mentioned an "aquarium bar" at the Grand Wailea and made it sound worth seeing. I traipsed all over the property without spotting it and finally resorted to seeing it in an online photo. But all was not lost because, in the process of looking for the aquarium bar, I found something I think I liked far better: Botero Lounge. We all know the art of Fernando Botero (well, two of those with me did not). Botero's art features lovingly rendered obese people whose shapes are all curves. I've seen his work before, in person and on greeting cards, but never before have I seen it like this. What a setting! In an open-air space in the vastness that comprises the Grand Wailea the Botero Lounge sits, filled with gorgeous oversized black sculptures of his rounded humans. If you' think you don't like the works of Botero (I was a fence-sitter) this place is likely to influence a quick change of opinion. The sculptures are so smooth and enchanting that it was difficult to look, not touch. Clad in a swimsuit and flip-flops I did nothing more at Botero Lounge than walk from one amazing sculpture to another. I did not stop for a cocktail but made a date in my head to return. This place is gorgeous, the sculptures enchanting. Stumbling upon Botero Lounge was actually one of my favorite Maui experiences to date. read more

Came here for our last night at the resort because we wanted something super casual and laid back. It's a great place to just sit and people watch. The chairs are also lounge chairs so it's nice and comfy and don't have to be in your best outfit to eat here lol. Even though it's casual, the food was delicious. I got the spicy crispy sandwich and my bf got the smash burger with fries. I wouldn't recommend the fries, as they were bland and did not stand out. But the sandwiches were great and filling! We also got the zero proof drinks which were really refreshing! However, the most important part of this review is how delicious the 17 layer chocolate cake was (and yes I counted 17 layers)!!! It was so decadent and creamy and flavorful. I just wish it came with more fruit to off set all that chocolate. I still am thinking about it and can't wait to be back to eat it. Awesome location right in the middle of the atrium of the resort. Has a cool vibe to it... but that's pretty much the end of the positives. The drinks were overpriced which i guess is acceptable given the setting but they were pretty terrible which is not acceptable. I've only sent a drink back maybe 5 times in my entire life and one of them was at Botero. The random food items were pretty mediocre as to be expected. First off: Expectations are high and they should be high. This place does not deliver on expectations. Let me explain. Service is good. Fast and friendly waitress and bar tenders. This is the good piece. Live music is really good BUT it ends way too early. Then, the music selection is meant to get you to sleep or go somewhere else. Does not create the right atmosphere. Drinks are just average. My old fashioned was half the size of other places and did not taste right. Our gin and tonic, same. No companion snacks unless you ask (you should not need to). The architecture, open ceiling with Maui stars, Botero sculptures and resort class + brand demand a significant upgrade on the rest of the experience. Oh, and ... Botero team, please refrain from serving club soda and water on plastic cups. This is not a lobby bar of a 3 star hotel. Do yourself a favor and walk to the 4 seasons or Fairmont so you see how other high end hotels deliver on high expectations. read more

She not only served great drinks and food, but also shared the history behind the cocktails and details on how dishes were prepared--something I'd expect at fine dining, not at the bar! The service here was great. They were on top of everything as far as speed, attention to detail for allergies and friendliness. We enjoyed the music and being able to dine under the stars. Food was ok, not great. Drinks were very good. We got two sushi rolls, edamame, dessert and two drinks. My biggest complaint was how much it cost for the quality of food. I understand that resort costs are higher but typically you're getting food that matches that range. Great selection on wine, they even had one of my favorite reds (Duckhorn). If i were to go back, I would get the crunchy spicy tuna roll over and over again. Came in to have a drink and ended up leaving after waiting almost 20 minutes with no service. My husband even went to the bar and they refused to take his order but curtly told him to just sit back down and a server would come. No one came. Even though multiple different servers walked by. This time we came to lounge area and ordered steak ($75) , French fries , sushi and butter fish. Waitress took our order and served food . That's literally it . She never stopped by to check on us . She never asked if we need anything . Wehad to ask for check and she didn't even notice that we haven't eaten steak and we didn't because it was burnt . Best thing about it was the bronze sculptures the place is named for. The guitar player was soulful and talented too. He was just doing covers, but he had enough presence that I wondered what is own songs were like. The setting is beautiful. It's an open air lobby in the center foyer. There's an ocean view depending on where you are sitting. There's live music and we went for sushi at 6 pm. No reservations required. The sushi is prepared by chefs at the sushi bar. Sushi was very good but servings are really small and very EXPENSIVE. The rainbow roll was to DIE for! Our bill for 4 was over $ 450US with no drinks and we left feeling s a bit hungry. I had better sushi for 1/5 of the price. We came here for a night cap after having dinner at The Shops next door. Plus, the Grand Wailea's Christmas lights were on at the front drive. If you haven't seen it, you must! ATMOSPHERE: The circular bar has a high porte cochere-like covering with frescos painted on the ceilings. It sits in the middle of the open-air atrium surrounded by decorative pools, lush foliage and art work by Fernando Botero, who the bar is named after. Besides bar seating, there are also sofa lounge chairs and high tops. They have nightly entertainment but we missed it. There was a wedding reception going on which was winding down but we found seats on the patio area. Because it rained earlier, they pulled the cushions off the sofas so we were sitting on the still comfortable shells. MENU: Bar-style apps, chicken wings, burgers. While we didn't eat anything, we just had one round of drinks, beer to be exact, which ranged from $6.50 to $7.50, not bad for being in a resort. SERVICE: We walked up to the bar to an unwelcoming male bartender. No smile, no greeting. When we tried to order, he told us to have a seat anywhere and a server would be with us. Sumiko was our server. Poor gal seemed to be taking care of the entire bar by herself, yet she was still smiley, friendly, welcoming, and professional. You go, girl! OVERALL: Touristy, duh. If you are staying in the Grand Wailea, this is a nice place to come and unwind or get a light snack before dinner. Botero is located on the same level as the lobby. You can see it when you come in from the main entrance. It took a while for the waiter to greet us but we were on vacation so we had time. We chose to sit on the couches instead of the bar since we were a big group. The prices for the food and drinks are high and they don't have much selection for happy hour. They are kid friendly; you can have them put their drink in a plastic cup instead of the glass. All the drinks on the menu can also be made without alcohol upon request. I came when the sushi bar was open and I enjoyed the seared salmon roll. If you find a table closer to the stairs, you can catch a little bit of the sunset. read more

That said, the happy hour deals here were disappointingly limited. Cocktail specials included just two vodka-based concoctions, no Mai Tais and the like. On the upside, my wife did say that the Lava Flow here was the best she's ever had and I would totally concur. If you're more interested in beer & wine, great reds were available at $10/glass and draft beers at $5/glass. No HH food specials. read more

It was not that busy when we get there and we ordered shrimp chips, a burger, and some rolls but took a little while to get our food. This is more the almost strictly bar area of the hotel. It had live music both nights - quite good in fact - that we stopped in, and they served us olives and nuts in addition to our drinks. The service was probably the fastest on the resort because the lounge was never really busy during our stay, but was a nice area near the entrance to relax. A few people ate there, but it didn't seem to be a high traffic congregation area, despite it's central location. All in all when we wanted a drink and didn't want to deal with the pool crowd, we headed here :D read more

Botero Bar was the bar in the lobby of the hotel we were staying at, The Grand Wailea. It's in a lobby but technically outdoors; halfway through my adventure at Botero I started feeling pricks of cold water on my arms and face and I wasn't sure if I was on a really strong buzz, roofied, or getting rained on. (I was getting rained on.) I chose to go to Botero on a Thursday night, which is the night they offer a not-very-well advertised cocktail tasting happy hour event. I think I was the only person that night to order it. You should do it! It was $20 for the following items: + Specialty cocktail #1 + Specialty cocktail #2 + Specialty cocktail #3 + Cheese plate + Bread basket + Souvenir mug of a fat guy in a bowler hat standing on top of a naked woman. +20% off food ordered from Botero Bar and 50% off Happy Hour pricing all evening on well drinks, house wine by the glass and domestic beers. I don't know if the waiters screwed up and didn't know that the deal is not that many items. (The way it was advertised was just free mug and drinks and discounts, I felt) but hey... On any other day at Botero, each cocktail would cost$16.50 each. The cheese plate is regularly $15. The mug is $25. It ended up being $90 worth of stuff for $20. It was more than enough so I didn't even use the all night discount. The drinks were okay, definitely strong (hence "is that rain or the buzz?") and like weird, experiential drinks designed to advertise the brand of vodka that they serve. The cheese plate and bread was excellent, including figs, with enough food for me to share with one other person for lunch the following day. The mug...well... The bar is called Botero bar because it features the artwork of a Colombian artist (not Native Hawaiian) named Fernando Botero who is known for making jet black sculptures of chunky people. So there are a bunch of chunky naked people statues lounging around the bar...and the souvenir mug is an embarrassing awkward-sexist mug of a fat man in a business suit standing on the back of a naked fat woman. I mean it could be a commentary on capitalism and the excesses of the spoilt and wealthy. Which would be interesting except it is the icon of a bar for some of the wealthiest people in the entire world... Speaking of which... While the staff was very friendly and even checked the mug stash when my first mug came out of the box chipped, I felt the clientele was kind of obnoxious. It could have just been luck, but I was seated next to a bunch of white dudes in business suits saying sexist stuff about ladies and a rich drunk woman whose husband was on Maui for a golf tournament, who was going on and on about whether or not they should buy a beach house on Maui or a ranch and restaurant in California... Later on in the night, a young man sat down next to me. He told me he was working for Apple and that he was applying for law school. He was kind of waxing grandiose about how he was going to work realllly hard to get into law school by doing volunteer programs for poor kids in a really vertical charity case way, and how the grad program I was in (social work) wasn't for him because he wanted to do something that would "change the world." He then urged me to "join us for sushi." Through talking to him, I later learned that "us" was his parents, who he was traveling with at Wailea. And that "working for Apple" meant handing out stickers for Apple as a campus promoter. Then it started to rain. read more
