This is my stop for the best artisan bread and pastries. I got up early, to get there before they sold out of the goodies I've been thinking about. I really like that I can select from the old world German Artisan collection and the Hawaiian Artisan baked goods. I snagged the Isabelle, a loaf of bread made of spelt (dinkel wheat, high in protein, fiber, and antioxidants) and rolled in an assortment of seeds. The texture is soft and the crust is slightly chewy. Just right and the taste is very satisfying. I can't bring myself to putting a slice into the toaster, though, because I don't want to risk losing any of the seeds. I'll be fine with the broiler and some butter. I also went for the Hawaiian Bread. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water. It has pineapple, toasted coconut and tiny soft raisins. The bread is moist from the pineapple juice and the loaves are small. I could finish one off in a setting but I resisted the urge. I also bought extras for sharing and had to pass them out quickly before temptation called. I'll return soon. read more

Came twice. First time with the lilikoi bun. I wanted something unique. And it was. The bun was not exactly tasty almost plain/dry, but the filling was quite tart. Almost too much. I did enjoy overall. The cinnamon roll was not hot from the oven, so I avoided disappointment. Next time I got the almond croissant. Pretty tasty. Basically they cut the croissant in half, filled in the cream and put the top back. Odd. Better between the two. Might be too sweet for some. Prices are higher than other places. I don't think you'll find anything subpar. Seems like good offerings. read more

This cute little bakery was in the strip mall right near where we were staying on our last trip to Maui.... It is called Maui bread, but it is a German style bakery. I was actually looking for bagels one morning when I stepped in here and while they don't have bagels, they had some delicious breads amazing muffins.( the pistachio one was delicious.) and huge cookies which were a hit at the beach later and fed 2-3 easily.... The staff.(Owners?) were very friendly and helpful.... In fact, the only negative comment I have to make is that I'm sorry I didn't stop in there sooner in our trip. read more

Let me tell you, when it comes to finally finding a bakery where the bread and pastries blast my pallet right back to Germany, little did I expect it across the street from the beautiful beaches of Kīhei. The best part of this business is Frau Elfi. She's a passionate about her craft, very hardworking, and is surrounded by an all star staff. We love this bakery, and make sure to visit it several times during our visit to Maui. It's always a good idea to get there early before everything is gone. This shop has the best breads. Parking lot is small and shared with quite a few shops but people seem to come and go alot so be patient and you'll snag a spot. There is so much to choose from I picked the cinnamon roll and a lilikoi filled pastry. There are a few tables outside but decided to take them home. Both were SO good, I will definately buy these again. The cinnamon roll was so soft and tender and the pastry had so much filling. We love visiting Maui Bread company when we're in Kihei! There are plenty of breads and pastries to choose from. They also have a lovely display area with little jars of jellies, butters, and chutneys with different flavors - lilikoi (passion fruit), guava, mango, and coconut pineapple! We got the Lilikoi Sweet Bun, Pina Colada Sweet Bun, and the Paprika, Onion, Cheese Roll. While we enjoyed them all, the Pina Colada Sweet Bun was my personal favorite. Really cool counter-service bakery with baked goodies. The coffee selection is limited with one hot and one cold option. I had the sweet roll guava in the middle and the guava juice. Both were not overly sweetened and were a huge portion in my opinion (sorry for no pic, next time). Seating is outside and the staff is supppppper friendly. You can smell the baking dough from the parking lot. There is ample free parking and other shops in the complex to visit. I would totally recommend!!!! read more

We came here a couple of times during our time here and thought overall the baked goods were pretty good. We had the macnut muffin, pretzel croissant (both sell out frequently we were told), the chocolate croissant, and the cheese, paprika and onion bread. The macnut muffin was the best of these pastries. Very fresh and good but also more like a muffin top since it's small. The pretzel croissant lived up to its name and tasted like both things -- was good but it had a bit too much salt. The cheese bread had too much onion in it and the seeds in it were a pleasant surprise (even though the ingredients did not list the seeds). The chocolate croissant was a huge disappointment. It was literally a croissant cut open and filled with chocolate chips -- the chocolate was not even melted. The staff here are friendly and it's nice that have ku'ia chocolate here -- we went on a chocolate tour on a prior visit and it was nice that they sold the chocolates there without having to go to that chocolate store. The Hawaiian bread is so good and freezes well so that you can have some later! The line moves fast unless theres groups of tourists. The cashier is usually patient with your order. Hawaii's idea of good bread tends to be sweeter, and I hear that baking is less forgiving in tropical areas than in places with cooler climates. Maui Bread comes through with German and Hawaiian-style baked goods! My husband found this place by chance while strolling around the block. Maui Bread was part of Yelp's Top 100 Restaurants of 2023! We visited some time past 9AM, and the German pretzel was already sold out. The lady who took our order was sweet and patiently gave us recommendations. She shared that all breads and pastries are baked onsite the morning they're sold! Since we already had breakfast, we started off with a pretzel croissant and a pretzel baguette (the lady's first two recommendations). We ordered a small side of mustard. The bakery is a bit cozy, but they do offer outdoor seating. The pretzel croissant and the pretzel baguette were so delicious! My family and I agreed that we had to return to Maui Bread at least one more time. We found German pretzels during our second visit! This time, we ordered more pretzel croissant and the following recommendations: German pretzel Hawaiian muffin Lilikoi sweet bun We didn't order the last recommendation, the piña colada sweet bun, but we did order an almond croissant. Our brother-in-law ordered coconut coffee which isn't a latte, but is iced coffee with coconut milk, a bit of nutmeg, and no added sweeteners. So smart to offer coffee with pastries! The pretzel croissant was still everyone's favorite. We all enjoyed the almond croissant, too! The almond flavored creamy filling was so tasty. The pretzel croissant is really good and something I would go back for. It sounds a little odd, but somehow it works, with a flavorful mahogany pretzel-y exterior layer and moist buttery multi-layered interior. The tips can be a little salty (surface area ratio and all that), but otherwise a solid hit. If you can afford $8 for a croissant, I suggest you give them a try. The only thing I didn't like was the credit card machine...it's the one that asks if you would like to leave a tip. The pretzel croissant is definitely a must try and keeps us coming back and paying $6.99. I do think about them from time to time back home. The chocolate pretzel croissants and hot dog buns are very good as well. The Hawaiian Sweet Bread and the POG Sweet Bread were both good; the Hawaiian bread was softer and more crumbly, messier to eat. This is our first time in Maui and my mom said it's strange to be in Hawaii and see no Asians. This is one of those establishments in Kihei which is literally all white people both working and frequenting the store. The bakery is similar to any high end bakery you would find in San Francisco, excellent set up with beautifully presented and packaged breads. We had the pina colada bread, pretzel croissant, and pretzel. Don't forget to ask for the mustard that comes with the pretzel. The parking was super yuck! Tiny spots for a car almost couldn't get back in my car when I came out due to the car next to me parking sooooo close. The bakery items were tasty. The banana bread didn't really have any banana taste but it was gooey good anyway. The ch chip cookie was more cake like than cookie like but tasted ok. WOW! What an epic bakery! We stopped in here for breakfast on one of our morning walks. The bakery had such a huge variety of items to choose from, and everything was fresh. We grabbed two trays and filled them with items from the shelves for the family. Everything was clearly labeled, and some fresh trays were behind the register. They also had a box with hot breakfast items next to the register. We grabbed some of cold coconut coffees (dark roast) from the fridge, and I ordered a masala chai. They let me know I could get free refills on hot water for the tea while I was there. The employee at the register was very helpful, making sure we got everything we wanted. Outside, we grabbed one of the many tables and cut our items into pieces to share. There wasn't a single thing we didn't love! One of my favorites as the ube mochi. The Christmas macarons were also excellent. My mom devoured the likikoi mochi. Both the guys chowed down on their peanut butter chocolate chip mochi. We had ordered way more than we could eat for the morning, so we brought home coconut macaroons, lemon poppyseed scones, and the leftover pieces of mochi. They made perfect snacks over the next few days! I'll definitely be stopping by again before we head out to grab some items for home. read more
